it was all ages night at the Grasslands club. Moondance preferred more traditional dancing, but sometimes it was fun to let loose and groove to something a bit more contemporary. She enjoyed the nights that the club opened it's doors to foals. It gave her a chance to mingle and relax.

She also wanted to show off her dance moves. The other levels were still only open to adults, so sometimes they came down to dance also. Moondance was secretly (not so secretly) hoping that a talent agent or someone important would spot her there one night. Although, the thought also did make her a bit nervous. What if a scout was there, and then they didn't like her? That would almost be worse.

It was a quiet night so far, but she did tend to get there earlier than everyone else. Moondance made her way to the center of the dance floor did some basic moves to warm up. Nothing fancy yet, she had to save the good stuff for later when it was packed.

A few more phonies filtered in, but no one interesting. The song that the DJ was playing was one she really liked. It had a steady pulse, but not an overwhelming beat. It was definitely something to dance to.

She stretched her moves out a little more, getting bigger and grander. Moondance threw in a spin she had learned last week in ballet. She pivoted on one back hoof and used the momentum of her other limbs to keep the spin going. It wasn't anything high level, but it was better than what anyone else at the club did. Most of the time she came here, all she saw the other dancers do were dances that looked more like humping. Yuck.

She wished there would be someone there who really knew how to dance.

Now THAT was a dramatic entrance! Moondance couldn't help but be impressed with the mare. And she thought she was good?! The unicorn blushed. "Thanks!" she shouted back, "You're really awesome!"

The pegasus was in perfect balance with the music. She looked as if this were her natural habitat. Everything she did was fluid and in exact time. Moondance was very, very impressed.

She didn't want the praise she received to be unwarranted, so the filly really dialed in and tried to focus on what she was doing. Moondance blocked out everything else around her, and just let the music guide her moves.

That wasn't something they had taught her in dance class. Moondance liked it though! She put her front hooves above her head, and wiggled around. "Like this?" A smile and laughter spilled out of her.

The mare sure was wild. It was clear she didn't have any formal training. "Here, let me show you something!" Moondance moved her hooves from above her head until her elbows were to her hips, wiggling them in spirithooves all the way. She did a jazzy little step, step, kick, step, turn, and then flipped her head back, sending her mane over her in an arc.

She was excited at how quickly she picked up the move! Moondance was so impressed with her.

Looking around, Moondance noted that she was right, everyone else was too shy to dance. "Hey!" she shouted as she had an inspiration flash, "why don't we try to teach them to dance? Maybe we can get them to try something new too!"

She had no idea what to call the mare. It was cute that she was calling Moondance 'Blue', but the filly wasn't good at coming up with nicknames, so she couldn't give one in return. "What's your name?" she asked.

"Nice to meet you, Nocturne! I'm Moondance, but you can keep calling me Blue if you like!" There were a few other phonies in her family called Blue, but she really liked the idea of having a nickname, even if only one phony used it.

She looked around the room, planning. "Yeah, you start over with that colt there, and I'll start over on the other side of the room. If we take it little by little, we should be able to get this place hopping in no time!"

The two split up, and over the course of the next several hours they recruited almost everyone they talked to to dance. They shared how to do their best moves, and got new people interested in moving and grooving.

This was one of the most fun nights she had ever had! It was much more fun to share than to dance alone. It was a shame that the night was almost over. But Moondance and Nocturne had enough time left to enjoy all their hard work.

"This is great! Thanks for helping me!" she said as she danced next to Nocturne. "Will I see you again next week?"

Nocturne spoke true words of wisdom. It felt really good to give the gift of dance. Moondance looked around the room and saw how happy everyone was. Her friend was right, they were always going to remember this night. It would be something special they could look back on. Moondance was really proud to be part of that.
