Name: Voscil Torgny (Also goes by Vos)

Voscil comes from the word Voscillate. Meaning violent, eccentric, and energetic movements which include one's limbs flailing about in all directions, mostly to high tempo/beat music which raises the heart's beats per minute. Used most commonly in dance clubs and/or at parties this action is used whilst completely out of your mind on the effect of music.

Torgny is a Scandinavian form of Icelandic Þorgnýr, meaning "Thor's clash" or "thunder clash."

Blood colour: Yellow Blood spectrum #b19800

Gender: Female
Symbol: Lightning ϟ

Personality:
Voscil is like a little firefly; always flitting around and constantly buzzing and blinking. She can be awful pesky, and likes things to be clear and to the point. Vos doesn't seem to know when to close her squawk gaper. She has more street-smarts than book-smarts, and isn't generally aware of when she's being overly enthusiastic. As she is constantly burning and expending her psionic energy to generate her super-speed, her metabolism is unusually high. This means she needs to eat more than usual and can easily eat nearly twice what a troll her size might in one sitting and think nothing of it. Thankfully her lusus is more than happy to provide food as needed. Vos isn't very physically powerful, yet she makes up for it her reaction timing and hand eye coordination.

She's notorious for judging a troll based strictly on looks upon initial meetings, and doesn't factor in their personalities. This includes her views on the hemospectrum. If she can see their blood colours, Voscil already has a set idea in mind how they will act and behave. Vos’s views of highbloods are fairly stereotypical: purplebloods are always crazy clowns and blue bloods have bad attitudes. Green bloods and teal bloods alike are far too ambitious as neither of them are highest or lowest on the hemospectrum. All those of the lower caste struggle to make it by as a general rule. Seeing trolls outside their caste-mold never ceases to surprise the energetic go getter, and might earn a strange look or two. She won’t dwell on it too much, nor be angry if they don’t meet her expectations.

Above all else Vos values status and notoriety as the comfort that money brings is appealing to her. Her extroversion makes Voscil suited to be around others, and prefers not to be alone. The hemospectrum is not something Vos seeks to challenge nor go against. The hierarchy is set in place, and meant to be upheld. She knows her place as a lowblood, and thinks she's better off siding with the reigning order than unnecessarily giving herself hardships. While Vos admires the posh life of the highbloods, she knows she cannot truly challenge them and instead seeks to be the best within her blood.

Living in the city she's gotten to see her share of soldiers around town and thinks they are something to be admired. She doesn't dig too much into the rights and wrongs of the Empire's influence as long as it benefits her. Besides, who doesn't like a troll in uniform? She admires those in uniform namely because she herself enjoys the nature of dress up and formality. She likes seeing commitment to a role, and just finds the idea of the unification means for Alternia under a common banner pleasing. As Voscil already has the odds against her with her birth given powers and being a mutant yellowblood she doesn't have a desire to paint an even bigger target on her head in that particular regard. She'd rather have fun, and if that means averting some highbloods, or finding something else to do, it’s much more pleasant than being culled. She’s an enthusiastic brown-noser, and won’t mind sparing a compliment or two if it gets those above her to see her in better light. Voscil isn't the sort to push for information, and overlooks finer details. What's inherently presented to her is what she'll generally go with.

Always into one thing or another, she has an awful time sitting still and keeping herself calm. Competitive by nature she likes a good challenge. Games are the best! Especially when played with other trolls. Being bored for long periods of time is tiresome and terribly dull. Among her friends she's nothing but a show off. While making friends is difficult with her oblivious self centered nature it doesn't stop her from making associates. She isn't one to prod too deep about serious subjects; she prefers things be light and sunny. Digging for information escapes her, and prodding for the truth of whether someone truly is alright or not isn't in her nature. Voscil doesn’t like competing in things she has no hopes of winning, but if a little showmanship saves the day she's not above such means. She doesn't like giving up if the odds are balanced however. Vos likes things to be interesting, fighting those stronger might provide her lessons, or experience. A fair fight means she can test herself, and become even better at her craft. Leaving everyone in the dust while preferable would get boring after a while. Vos is always looking for the next would be contestant, and will dig her sneakers in under threat of going down without a fight. Stealing the spotlight means she’s on top and has won. Who wants second best when you can come out ahead?

She is conceited, and likes to flaunt her talents. Voscil frequently like to demonstrate her speed capabilities, and runs around town jumping, and climbing much like her own lusus does. She also enjoys performing and acting. Voscil likes to be the center of attention when it’s safe, and more than ready to take on all of Alternia. She's always looking for ways to come out ahead, and aims to achieve that by using her own power if necessary. She also aspires to one day be the fastest troll in the galaxy. Voscil loves investing her energy into becoming better at FLARP'ing, and especially enjoys the physical nature of live action role-playing. She enjoys FLARPING just as much as she does running, jumping and climbing. Her favorite class to play is usually a barbarian or fighter to utilize her agility in her favor. Vos also happens to have a fascination with the card game Fiduspawn.

She wants to be the best...like no one ever was.

Strengths:

+ Ambitious: Vos is always trying to get ahead and come out on top. Having a career as the fastest troll alive might be shooting for the stars, but there’s no stopping her. She has a strong desire and determination to succeed, and constantly sets her aspirations high.

+ Quick-Thinking: Has a good deal of improvisational skills, and readily goes with the flow. Not only is she quick on her feet, but she's good at making up things on the spot. Creative in her performances, she is spontaneous and without preparation. Never a dull moment with this kid, Vos throws together what’s needed, and figures it out as she goes.

+/- Energetic: Voscil is lively, and likes to be involved in large amounts of activity. She'll strike at a moment’s notice, bringing tireless enthusiasm in her wake. Her laid back athletic attitude is spirited. She is full of vitality and a rather bouncy. Vos's bubbly exuberance makes her easy to get along with. While it's accidental, she can come across as irritating with her input and antics.

Flaws:

- Impulsive: She is a hasty busy-body who is easily flustered and made irritable when her rapid actions are called into question. Vos is always too busy rushing and skimming over tasks and is known for her compulsive behavior. She is careless in her rash, spur of the moment decision making skills. She is unable to either relax or be still for long periods of time; everything has to be done now and on Vos' time. She lacks patience of any kind.

- Superficial: She is frivolous, and only concerned with comprehending what is apparent or obvious in any given situation. Voscil doesn't like beating around the bush or playing lengthy word games. She is shallow, and likes things close to the surface and easy to reveal. She's not very good at digging deeper into others emotions, and overlooks fine details. She is also inherently oblivious to meaningful details. Her oblivious nature makes it hard for her to empathize with others and doesn't allow her to examine other troll feelings closely. Voscil herself isn't very deep or serious. She judges others based on both appearance and monetary Beetles value.

- Mischievous: Voscil is fond of meddling and interfering with the daily happenings of others. She'll go out of her way to stick her nose in someone's business for the sake of having fun. She is best known as a bothersome 'what are you doing?' type. She is also equally irresponsibly playful, and while it’s meant to be fun and friendly her annoyances often lead to minor injury or messes for those on the receiving end.

Weapon: A pair of Tonfa's made out of metal.

Appearance: Vos is a premade yellowblood! She likes wearing jumpsuits that zip down the front so long as it proudly shows off both her blood color and symbol. Her favorite pair of grey, yellow, and red laced sneakers complete the look. Her hair is short, and well kept as her image must be well maintained at all times. Her horns are shaped like lightning bolts. Two little fangs poke out of her mouth and are fairly close together. She constantly moves about and fidgets.

Home: She is a resident of New Hemisect City. Voscil currently lives in a Communal hive stem. She lives on the 6th story, and finds the hive small, but not overly cramped. She has abundant storage for her exercise and training gear. Various things she owns, e.g. batteries, weights, and abandoned floppy grubs for her old husktop containing abandoned Flarp character ideas, litter the hive with no particular attention to detail in placement. Outside the railings and metal grating are great for her practicing swinging and hanging from places.

Lusus: Voscil's lusus is a Raiju that has taken on the appearance of a cat-like beast.

Referred to as a "RoarBeast" or as Vos prefers "MamaJu".

This lusus lacks the actual lightning like crackle of the mythological beast its namesake derives from. However, its feline shape does include deadly claws and fangs. The cat-beast stands at about 250cm at the shoulder, and weighs approximately 186.6kg. While the yellowblooded creature could be larger, the lusus is by far massive compared to Voscil. MamaJu is able to keep up with her active daughter, and is constantly on the move after her troll kit to ensure her safety. They like to play games of cat and mouse together as training exercises.

From the moment her trials ended, the lithe little troll attracted the feline's attention. Vos remembers very little about the trials, given they ended rather quickly for her! Following the darting little troll, and their first round of chasing one another, the feline lusus quickly grew found of the troll. It works tirelessly to keep her entertained and active.

MamaJu is generally calm and harmless, save during thunderstorms. It becomes agitated and leaps about in trees, fields, and even buildings wildly. Trees that have been struck by lightning are said to have been scratched by a Raiju’s claws. When her lusus is away during these episodes Vos is rather lonely. Without mama close by she pours herself into her games, or the burning desire to go look for her mother. Her lusus’s disturbed episodes also means Voscil is usually stuck inside during bad weather. Working out helps distract herself, as does play fighting and watching what’s on television to pass the time. Alternatively, pestering a fellow pal to stay with until her guardians return is equally a preferred solution. Voscil likes the sound of thunder as it reminds her of her lusus while she’s away. Trying to follow MamaJu around at such a young age isn’t possible at this time.

Power:

Novice - Nimble Reflexes: Using her speed as a weapon, Voscil readily is able to dodge and weave out of attacks. Swift reflexes allow her to become hyper-limber for a short duration.

Superspeed (Nimble Reflexes)

Agility - Style A:
xxxxx +1 difficulty increase to hit for opponents next attack
Uses:
xxxxx 2 per battle

Alrighty! Cylem’s First Staff Crit goo!

Voscil’s shaping up excellently! I just have some clarifying questions.

Voscil makes snap judgments about people! “If she can see their blood colours, she has a set idea in mind how they will act and behave.” What are these ideas, exactly? What does she expect out of highbloods, versus lowbloods? Following that, how does Voscil act on these assumptions? What does she do if/when trolls don’t meet her expectations?

It’s implied Voscil is subservient to highbloods and doesn’t want to rock the hemo-boat, but how does she go about this? Is it in more of a nervous-please-don’t-kill-me way, or more on the side of enthusiastic brown-nosing? The fact that she admires soldiers specifically, despite her blood status is interesting, too. What exactly does she admire about them?

Voscil appreciates status, and is both social and competitive, but is also unwilling to challenge the hemospectrum. Judging by her thoughts towards the hemospectrum, she doesn’t seem to want to waste time competing in areas she can’t win, like blood caste, which is a neat detail. The fact that she’s found a workaround in the form of relying on her skills to climb the social ladder is really cool! Expanding on this, how does she feel when competing in a fair fight? Does she prefer leaving her competition in the dust, or does she like a challenge? How does she react to an unexpected loss? Does she have a hard time sharing the spotlight?

This brings me to my interest in Voscil’s social life. She clearly likes being around people, but her superficiality has me curious as to how well she empathizes with other people. Is Voscil’s superficiality a matter of not noticing, or not caring about things going on beneath the surface? Would she make more of an effort with the people she cares about, or is she more of a fair-weather friend?

Finally, I have one question about Voscil and her lusus. If MamaJu is usually the one keeping an eye on Voscil, how does Voscil handle MamaJu’s “episodes” during thunderstorms?

Lookin’ forward to learning more about Voscil! biggrin

Let’s see if I can address everything you said :] !

Vos’s views of highbloods is fairly stereotypical, purplebloods are always crazy clowns, and blue bloods have bad attitudes. Green bloods and teal bloods alike are far too ambitious, as neither are they the highest nor lowest on the hemospectrum. All those of the lower caste struggle to make it by as a general rule. Seeing trolls outside their caste-mold never ceases to surprise the energetic go getter, and might earn a strange look or two. She won’t dwell on it too much, nor be angry if they don’t meet her expectations. A simple “Oh. Okay then!” And onto the next thing will suffice as all encompassing logic works for her.

She’s an enthusiastic brown-nosing type, and won’t mind sparing a compliment or two if it gets her in better favour. The solider thing is more admiring someone in uniform, and enjoying the nature of dress up and formality. She likes seeing commitment to a role, and just finds the idea of the unification means for Alternia under a common banner pleasing.

Onto the nature of her competitive spirit, she indeed doesn’t like competing in things she has no hopes of winning, but with a little showman ship if it can make her more interesting for the better why not test her fortune. A fair fight means she can test herself, and get even better. Leaving them in the dust while preferable would get boring after a while. Vos is always looking for the next would be contestant, and will dig her sneakers in under threat of going down without a fight. Stealing the spotlight means she’s on top and has won, who wants second best when you can come out ahead.

Voscil’s superficiality has more to do with not noticing than a lack of caring. She isn’t the most empathetic of sorts, and tends to be a fair weathered friend. Mostly only available when the circumstance are pleasant or profitable. At the sign of trouble, she tends to distance herself and try and divert back to a more pleasant topic then dwell on the negative side of things. It has more to do with being oblivious and not noticing than outright malicious intent. If others can see past her demeanor, she is capable of caring for others.

Seeing her mama riled up makes for one flustered little troll gal. Without mama close by, Vos tends to pour herself into her games, or go look for her mother. Her lusus’s disturbed episodes are lonesome and mean she’s stuck inside from the bad weather. Working out to distract helps distract herself, as does play fighting and watching whats on television help pass her time. Alternatively pestering for a fellow friend to pal around with until her guardian can return. She rather likes the sound of thunder as it reminds her of her lusus, while she’s away. Trying to follow her around at such a young age isn’t possible no matter how much Vos hates being cooped up inside (especially alone).

Thanks again Cylem! Your crit got me thinking there for a day or two while I pondered over some of this stuff. I’ll work on incoperating this into her personality and expanding on a few things with these clarifications!

Thought I’d add on to Cylem’s crit! Voscil is looking good and once you add to the application I think she may be there. Here’s some fiddly grammar stuff while you’re at it:

Can easily eats -> can easily eat
“Never seems to gain, nor lose weight. Not very physically powerful, she makes up for it her reaction timing.” <- fragment and weird grammar
“Judges a troll based strictly on looks, not factoring in their personality whatsoever upon initial meeting.” More fragments – avoid “bullet-point” style descriptions.
“Shows a strong desire and determination to succeed, and constantly sets her aspirations high.” Same here. At this point you should read through and make sure you’ve got full sentences, because I’m seeing more of these and it would be rather redundant to point them out!
“around town and think they are” -> and thinks they are
“Vos throws together whats needed” -> what’s
“She has storage for her excise and training gear.” -> exercise
“Vos remembers very little about the trails,” -> trials

And some Actual Crit:
“Vos's bubbly exuberance makes her easy to get along with.”

^ this can easily be a flaw, especially when you mentioned above that she has a hard time keeping her mouth shut. This is a minor elaboration that may just need a bit of spinning; a strength can also be a flaw but as there have been a few loud mouth trolls in the shop I’d love to see whether she uses her exuberance to her advantage or if she’s even aware of it.

After reading your response to Cylem’s crit (very astute!):

For Vos’s superficial trait, I’m wondering at what point she sees others at more than just face value (or if she does manage to empathize, if she ever decides not to distance herself). Is she able to make lasting friendships? What would it require to do so, and if not, how does she feel about that? I would also consider looking at this flaw again. It doesn’t seem to negatively affect her on a nightly basis, so you might want to look at it from a different angle (the bit about her being concerned with only surface-level details is intriguing and I’d play with that more!) I’d say to do the same for mischievous, though this trait is closer.

Crits addressed and worked into the app! A little behind the curve, but Vos has been sent off, and submitted for review :]

Voscil's looking really close to done! I have one last crit to be addressed before I slap on the approval sticker.

I'd like some more clarification on Voscil's competitive drive versus her reluctance to step on any highblooded toes. Especially considering Voscil's desire to show off and be the best, would she be willing to show-up a highblood if she knew they were going to be sour at her about it? She's also mentioned to be stubborn and unwilling to "go down without a fight," but at the same time willing to go with the flow and not challenge the social order. Is she stubborn just when it comes to games and other low-stakes arenas? How keen is Voscil's ability to sense a dangerous situation/at what point would she back-off from an aggressive opponent?

Ahhh I'm glad she's almost done I've tried to streamline everything as things have come up. I'll roll some of these points/details into her bio as well :> heart

While Vos admires the posh life of the highbloods, she knows she cannot truly challenge them and instead seeks to be the best within her blood. She's ambitious as far as she -thinks- she can go within her means, but at the risk of injury or death she'd back off. Being sour about loosing a sport/competition is one thing. Her sense of danger is adequate, and if needed would turn tail and run if it meant self preservation. She doesn't like giving up if the odds are balanced however. Vos likes things to be interesting, fighting those stronger might provide her lessons, or experience.
