Earning gold on Gaia can be quick and easy. Here are some ways in one place. Good luck!

User Image User Image User Image User Image User Image User Image User Image

3nodding Post. If you post the amount of gold you have now, you can watch your earnings for this session grow! You can click the icon to your right (the red check mark) to go to your own subscribed threads.

3nodding Vote in a poll. If I've failed to change this one since you were last here, check out the Chatterbox forum for threads with polls.

3nodding Get Daily Chance at DC:Home DC:My Gaia DC:Gaia Cash DC:Shops DC:GOFusion DC:Forums DC:World DC:Games DC:Mobile . Each link only goes to the Daily Chance reward, not the landing page or cart itself. You can also get freebies from the Runway and Dumpster Dive. although most likely it will not be worth much. However, sometimes it's something nice, and free is good!

3nodding User Image Shake a tree and a bush and look under a rock in Towns or Towns 2. If the first of each don't work, try another until you get some (it shouldn't take more than two or three tries). You only get a few gold and it takes a while to load. However, if you catch bugs or pick up trash or pick flowers, you can sell them for a few hundred gold each on the Marketplace, sometimes even more! The time clock (see button on right) is helpful because if you go during Gaia dusk (6-7am or pm, about once an hour real time), you can find User ImageUser ImageUser ImageOld Crumpled Newspaper which sells for over a million gold each. Blue Carnations and Sunflowers also sell well.

3nodding Play Booty Grab by visiting Gaia Aquarium Subforum and checking through a few pages of aquariums. For hints on how to play, see Booty Grab + Ultimate Guide. You can play as much as you like! Also, if you set up your own aquarium and post it in your sig and then post around Gaia, you may find yourself earning extra gold from others playing your aquarium without you doing anything more than adding more fish from time to time (goldfish and "lite" fish don't work).

3nodding Visit your aquarium. Once per day the Overseer will grant you a gift if you have any fish in your aquarium (click on it when it's open and glowing). When your fish die they also leave a gift (click the fish drop in the Special tab of your inventory). Aquarium FAQ gives a good summary of how to make your aquarium provide the best prizes.

3nodding The most lucrative game is Lake Kindred. For help, see the List of Lake Kindred Guides. You can also finish a jigsaw puzzle in Games. The more pieces the puzzle has, the more gold you earn when you finish it (but the longer it will take). The other games can also earn you gold, but usually not as quickly or easily. If you want to play Cards, you try to get as close to 21 without going over as possible. The trick is if you have 17 or more click "Stand" ("Stand" on 16 if you think either you or the dealer will go over 21, since dealer must play until over 16). For 11 on the first 2 cards you can try "Double Down" to double your winnings on the turn of just one more card. Anything else click "Hit."

3nodding Sell an item from your Inventory (surely of all the things you have from Daily Chance and Starter Stuff there's something you're willing to part with). Sometimes selling things in the Marketplace will get you more than the half-price the stores give, but for very inexpensive things you may find no one will buy your item at any price. Also, you need a Trading Pass (which costs 500g) to sell things in the Marketplace. This pass can be bought at the Bank after you have been on Gaia at least 3 days.

3nodding Comment and rate avatars, art, writing and homes in the Arena or the Runway.

3nodding Comment in a profile. Feel free to use mine.

User Image 3nodding Add a comment to someone's Journal (again, feel free to use mine.)

3nodding Add an entry to your own Journal. The icon here will take you there:

3nodding Post the amount of gold you have now! See? You can subscribe to this thread and come back every day to do these steps. Good luck!

Thank you to JoyRose who first made this resource and most of the graphics.

gaia_gaiagold POST #3: Using Your Time and Talents to Get Gold

You can often get folks to give you gold in exchange for services or art.

The Services subforum often has shops that are hiring bumpers who post in threads (for which you get gold) and get paid to do so.

Visit the Mini Shops forum to see shops where others are selling their wares. There is also a Pricing subforum to get help with how much to sell your art for.

Good luck!

gaia_gaiagold Post # 4: Using Real Money to Get Gold

You can get gold by giving Gaia real money. Each month you give $2.50 US, Gaia will add a letter with Monthly Collectibles in it to your inventory under the Special Tab.

The Marketplace price of the Monthly Collectible Thank You Letter will likely jump a bit on the 15th of the month when it becomes "unsealed" revealing which new collectibles are inside. Sometimes, if at least one of the collectibles is very popular, the price continues to rise.

Also with real money you can buy items in one of the Cash Shops (see them listed first in the Shops menu). You can sell the item in The Gaia Exchange or in the Marketplace.

Cash Shop items generally start at a high price, drop a bit, and then almost always increase in value, especially the costlier ones.

Chance Items (CIs) are items where you buy it and can sell it unopened, or open it and hope for a costly item but take the chance of getting an item worth much less. You can generally find a thread in Gaia Community Discussion that tells you what to find in a new CI.

DO NOT BUY GOLD GENERATORS!
These Chance Items cost less Gaia Cash (real money) but promise huge gold rewards. The gold rewards are almost always MUCH less than the highest amount promised. And worse than that, the gold generators pump loads of extra gold into the economy, raising prices for everyone, including you! A short term bit of extra gold in your pocket is not worth the long term damage done to the economy. You can find a list of Gold Generators to avoid here.

gaia_gaiagold Post # 5: Playing the Market

Of course, the best way to make gold on the Marketplace (MP) is to buy an item that has been priced low and sell it for a lot of gold more than you paid for it.

TIMING:

1. Generally a brand new item costs more when it first comes out and then the price drops a lot over the first few days. Free items almost never recover to their first-released prices, but most other items do eventually get back that high and sometimes even higher if you wait long enough.

2. Items sell fastest during the evenings (USA time) and over the weekends. They often sell for slightly less in the Exchange forum if you can find the item you want for sale (about 90% of the Lowest Buy Price, or LBP). The other number you can use to haggle if it's lower is the ABP or Average Buy Price.

3. The MP has ups and downs. If the graphs are hidden, click "Show graphs" for more information. Graphs show how an item has been selling over the past month/year, both in price and number. If very few are sold each day but several are for sale, you may need to set your price much lower to entice anyone to buy it. If none are for sale, you may be able to set the price higher. New items won't have enough data to graph and the prices are extremely volatile (moving up or down very quickly, usually down).

4. Monthly Collectibles generally rise sharply in price on the 15th when they "open" and many other items on the MP drop a bit in price as people scramble to sell stuff so they can buy the newest shiny. This pattern is even more true for expensive Chance Items where a few shinies are rare and expensive.

5. The graphs for the last month show how the prices have been going lately on average. If the prices are going down, you only want to sell an item that was a free item recently. That price will continue to drop until those are often worth very little. But if your item is just experiencing a brief dip in price, hold off selling it for a while (days or even months) until the price comes back up. Nearly all prices come back up given enough time.

6. When you sell it, the 7 days default is usually a pretty good way to be sure everyone gets a chance to see it and buy it. If it hasn't sold in 7 days, it probably won't sell at that price in 14.

PRICING:

1. Gold shop items (and some others) can be sold for half their cost (or Sellback Value) from your Inventory. If you can sell items for more than that on the MP go for it. Never buy items for more than they cost in the shops! If you want it for yourself, you can buy it at a price between the shop price and half of that, or just buy it from the shop.

2. When setting your price, make sure that you price it to cover the 5% MP tax. Selling an item that cost you a million gold for 1,009,999g will not give you a profit! You have to sell it for at least 50k (per million) more before you've covered the tax. To be sure, multiply the price you paid times 0.05 and add that onto the original price to see how much you need to sell it for just to break even.

3. Look up the item you are selling on the MP. If the Lowest Buy Price is higher than the Average Buy Price, now is probably a good time to sell. If the Average Buy Price is higher, it's probably not a good time to sell. Be careful to make sure that the item is being bought by checking the graphs. If only one or two were sold each day for the past several days, that item is not easy to sell. You're price will probably need to be close to or less than the Average Buy Price to sell.

4. I just list buy price and don't generally mess with bidding prices. If you do use bid prices, be sure not to set the starting bid price for less than you'd be willing to see it sell for. Let the bid increase by about 1 thousandth of the starting bid (so if you start bidding at 1million, bid increments should be about 1,000g). Be careful not to set the increment too high, or you will never get more than your starting bid.

5. If the first several Lowest Buy Prices are increasing sharply and lots of the item are being sold, pick a price just a bit less than the second price to sell fairly quickly (as that lowest price will probably sell very soon and then yours will be the lowest). Again, check the graphs to be sure the items are actually selling.

FINAL NOTES:

1. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR LISTING! Make sure you have the right number of zeros and the numbers reflect the price you want.

2. Only sell one of a given item at a time. Don't compete with yourself! If it sells quickly at that price, you can list it's duplicate and raise the price a little.

NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR PASSWORD! No staff member on Gaia needs it and anyone who says they want or need it is lying and will only steal from you. If you get a PM or see a message asking for your password or asking you to reset your password to their choice, report it immediately and do not follow their instructions!

gaia_gaiagold Post # 6: Charities

User ImageStill need more gold? Check out THE List of Charities for charities run by generous Gaians willing to donate gold (or sometimes items) to you. That thread is in the Charities/Quests forum, which might have active unlisted charities on the first page of the forum, too.

BE SURE TO READ the WHOLE FIRST PAGE of any charity you go to so you follow their rules. It's only 15 posts at most, and if you fail to follow their rules you will probably not get a donation from them.

You must have a Trading Pass for anyone to give you gold. You can buy one for 500g at the Bank.

Begging for gold by just saying "give me gold or stuff" or use of crying emoticons is generally frowned upon as annoying and will not get you much in the way of donations.

MAKING A QUEST THREAD

You've visited charities and some require a Quest Thread. What is it? It is a thread you start to show you are dedicated to saving up enough gold for some expensive item. Some items were given out and are not in stores. These items are only available in the Marketplace or The Gaia Exchange if someone is selling theirs. You can search for any item on Gaia in the Marketplace or from your Dress-up page (click "All Gaia" instead of "My Inventory" when searching at the top of your inventory window).

Parts of a Quest Thread:

1. Introduction (a poll may attract more visitors) telling what you are questing for and why.

2. Progress telling how much gold you have and how much you will need to get the item.

3. Thanks Section thanking all those by name who have donated to your quest.

4. Thanks to bumpers who help keep your thread visible. (BUMP means "Bump Up My Post" and is used to move a thread to the top of its forum. Threads are listed in each forum in order of most recent posts. So the thread which has had a post most recently will be at the top of the list after the Announcements and Stickies. Any post, including just an emoticon or the word "bump" will effectively move that thread to the top of its forum, and therefore be more visible to folks browsing the forum at that time.)

5. Links to other threads (like charities that have helped you, other fellow questors, shops, or any other helpful threads you'd like to keep linked).

* Graphics make a thread more appealing, too. If you add a graphic link in your signature to your quest thread, perhaps folks might click it to visit your thread, too. Visit (and even bump) other quest threads for an idea of the possiblities! A link in your sig will also encourage some folks to visit your quest thread, maybe even bump it, and who knows, perhaps even give you a donation! There are many talented folks in the Minishops forums who sell graphics if you don't want to make your own. The Minishops & Resources Center lists some such shops under Personalized Graphics.

Other information charities often look for include your join date and number of posts. This information can be found in your profile, found under the MY GAIA tab.

Good luck!
