    (86 = Captured)
    (Rolling for Taming)

It took a bit of sniffing to pick up the Uruu's trail again amidst the muck and dirt of the stained black city, but she managed to do it. Catching the smell, and then catching sight of it's little trail in the dirt near a pile of refuse, Malta resumed her chase.

The alleyway grew narrower, less inhabited, as if it was the abandoned leftover of two buildings, ill planned. Now Malta did have tow squeeze herself to get enough room to trot over the uneven cobbles, her claws clicking rapidly as she followed the Uruu's trail. It was almost too tight to turn, but she managed it.

She followed its scent over abandoned crates and sacks, clambering over them in the small space as she scrambled to catch up to the fast little thing.

Finally, she came to a wider, slightly better kept space that, from the smells, had to be near a food shop of some sort. She sniffed at the trail and soon found the uruu, pecking away at the grains leaking from a pile of sacks.

“There you are!” she purred happily, approaching gently. She tried to move quietly, and almost managed it: the clicking of her claws was muted by the discarded burlap cloth and the bustle of the city nearby – nearer than she expected, actually.

The uruu continued to peck at the seeds, gorging itself on stolen food, unconcerned and, perhaps, a little arrogant.

Arrogance, Malta decided, did not look well on the little creature. Cute, though. It was very cute.

Finally, she was quite close, close enough that she could reach out and grab it with her jaws if she wanted to. She was afraid though that any sudden movement on her part would make it run away – and then she'd have to track it all over again, which would be a pain.

Seeing the seeds, she had an idea. With a gentle touch of her magic, she set a few of the seeds to growing, attaching themselves to the ground and looping gently around the uruu's legs...

    (Rolling for Training)

The Uruu squalled and kicked against the plant restraints, but Malta managed to get to it before it broke free of the delicate sprouts, picking it up with careful, gentle teeth. “I goth yew” she said through the mouthful, trying not to bite down hard on the soft little thing.

It struggled against her, cheeping what she could only imagine were insults. “Shhththth...” she managed through her burden and the saliva that started to build up in her mouth. “Itshth okay.” she said, trying to reassure it. It only struggled more, and Malta supposed she couldn't blame it. “Ahm going to take youth home.” she told it, turning towards the way she had come.

She was just about to cross into the alleyway when the door – presumably to the shop – slammed open, releasing a warm, sweet smell that made her salivate even more, wetting the poor Uruu's feathers in the process. It renewed its struggles, and she struggled not to bite down as she hid behind the corner.

“Now what in Soudana's name was that racket?” grumbled a male voice. Malta decided not to wait for the man's verdict, whatever it might be. Quickly, she clattered off into the alley, heading for Castor's neighborhood. “Damn animals...” she heard as she put the shop behind her. Malta wasn't sure what he meant by that.

She wend her way through the narrow place, over the discarded sacks and crates, and finally back into the alleyway she had come from. Her wings relaxed as she finally had room to move and she began to walk at a slower pace.

Malta soon became aware that the Uruu was not making sounds, or struggling, or anything. “Are ywo okay?” she asked, making a cage of her claws, legs, and wings and putting the Uruu down into it to examine it.

The Uruu righted itself, shook itself off, and glared at her, letting loose a loud, angry, peep before trying to bite at her nose.

Malta giggled, licking it's nose. “I guess you are!” she said, giving it a nuzzle. It was so cute!

    (69= Successful)

Malta cuddled it for a little bit and then gave it a once over with her magic, just to make sure it was all right, finding that – aside from a few wet patches, it was just fine.

It had stopped trying to attack her now, and – with some reluctance and indignant peeps – was allowing her to nuzzle it.

“You're so cute!” she said, “I want to keep you!” but of course, it wasn't hers, so she couldn't keep it. She sighed. “I guess I gotta take you home, huh?” She picked it up in her mouth again. “Sowwhy.” she said.

It cooed at her, waving its legs peacefully as she carried it back to the house. She tapped a claw on the door. “Hewwho.” she said when the lady opened it. “I browht it back.”

The woman's eyeless sockets widened and she looked at the khehora with misgiving – possibly realizing that she had asked a feral khehora to fetch a prey species “Please tell me its alive... Oh, my son would be so upset if it wasn't...”

The Uruu peeped at her and Malta set it gently into the woman's outstretched hand. It kicked at her, definitely alive.

“Oh!” said the woman, trying to keep hold of the little beast, “Thank you! Thank you so much!” She brought the Uruu inside and Malta, having not been told otherwise, followed cautiously behind her as the woman put the Uruu into a small hutch-like cage. “I'll have to find a leash the next time I bathe you, you little rascal.” the woman mumbled. The Uruu only glared. She turned to Malta. “Well, I really should repay you... would you like, um... Something to eat?”

“Oh! Sure!” said Malta, her tail waving happily, “I eat lots of things. So you don't have to worry about meat...”

“Oh.” said the woman, seeming unsure of her decision, “Good. Then... would you join us for lunch, in a few minutes?”

“Okay!” Malta said, looking at the Uruu as it's eyes followed her through the room. She turned back to the woman. “I'd love to!”
