On this fine morning the usually busy Mal had managed to arrange for himself an all too rare day off. It was almost an occasion of mythical status because they happened all too infrequently. Usually he was too busy hunting treasure with his brother, watching his brother count their treasure, making sure his bother didn't get himself killed while trying to make his treasure pile bigger, and lately he's been working with that gator and trying to figure out new ways to let the old girl help him and Zo out with their...scavenger operations. But today Zo had promised to stay put in their hide out with the gold (counting it yet again) and with the gator keeping watch and for once....Mal thought they might just be okay without him.

And he wasn't about to waste this one day wonder, no sir. So Mal made his way to a favorite watering hole and just set himself to relax in a lazy drift, allowing the mild underwater currents to pull him this way and that. It was nearly a dream, all peaceful and quite. Mal couldn't image what could go wrong on such a perfect day.

Davros Skaro purposefully strode towards the water's edge with a look of unadulterated disgust. Though he was well aware his mental powers were under utilized and his abilities in this world stunted beyond measure by the spirits that moved them all about like pieces on a game board, occasionally those days did arise when he wondered why he even bothered at all. He was a gifted problem solver and more than capable thinker, however when his path crossed with those....shall we say less inclined to use their spirit given mental capacities he could hardly formulate even a simple sentence. In fact a most recent conversation left him on the verge of scream in rage. How was it that such creatures could live in their world perfectly content to bask in an existence totally barren of anything resembling intelligent thought. No. For these souls it seemed the typical mental challenge included walking and simple navigational activities. Developed conversation was clearly beyond them because even though formulating words was Clearly within their skill set, engaging in enlightening, or even comprehensible, conversation was clearly out of their scope. And it truly was a pity because that left him and all of his brilliance to sulk alone in his own mind, with only the hollow echos of futile plans to keep him company. Pathetic.

Mal heard the hoof falls long before anything got too close to the edge of his resting spot. For as long as he could remember his ears had been finely attuned to the sounds around him. Think of it as a sort of safety sanity system - with out keeping an eye on the safety of him and Zo, Mal ended up losing out a bit on the sanity part and his ears were telling that little part of his brain that liked to worry about things that something was coming that he should be worried about. Even on his day off he had to be on high alert for anything that might come by. While it had been a while since he and his brother had run into any trouble, the nature of their "business" often attracted a rather unsavory sort of crowd.

Mal slowly but deliberately allowed himself to fall a few more feet into the water and held still. The patch work markings along his body worked nicely for camouflage against the dark sandy base of certain waterbeds, he wasn't too sure how it would blend against the seaweed he could already feel swaying against his back. Of course he could be getting all roweled up for nothing. It was possible that what ever was up there was just interested in getting a drink, maybe some nice conversation while he was at it - but Mal seriously doubted that.

Davros continued to frown as he reached the water's edge and pondered his situation. He was capable of doing so much for the world - righting the wrongs that the spirit world had unleashed, protecting the people from those invaders who would destroy them, maybe even pushing back on every psychotic soq with an axe to grind this side of the mountain range. He looked down into the water with a dark scowl. This feeling of helplessness was almost more than he could tolerate some days. As he stared into the dark below, he failed to realize that the collar that adorned his neck was catching the rays of th sun in a fashion that made it glimmer and shine so bright that one could see it from deep beneath the water.

Mal let out a low whistle as he saw the brilliant gleam of something above the surface. Even with the distortion from the water, Mal could tell this was no puny penny he was dealing with. This was something large and more importantly, something very shiny and right about now Mal was really wishing he had brought that gator along with him. Now he was gonna have to come up with a way to part whoever it was up there from whatever it was shinning so nicely. "Hmmm," he frowned in careful consideration. "Now how am I going to pull this off..."

Davros bent his head and drank deeply from the pool of water, enjoying the refreshing coolness on a warm day. The momentary feeling of peace was obliterated quickly as he felt something latch onto his neck and pull him into the water. Suddenly the water was neither calming nor cool. Davros sputtered and kicked, trying to make his way back to the surface but something continue to tug at his neck.

Mal frowned and tugged again at the strange metal collar the stallion wore and growled in annoyance when it continued to refuse to budge. While it was a great deal of fun to pull an unsuspecting stranger down beneath the waves to face the dangers of drowning, it really helped him connect with his Kelpi heritage after all, Mal didn't really want the fellow to die down here. The guy might have a bunch of big, brawny friends that could kick his finned tail, if they could catch him, that was. But for now, "Up you go," Mal pushed the stallion's head above the water. "Deep breaths, 'cause we're going for round two!"

Davros sputtered and kicked at the force that continued to hold him down. It was bad enough that his feathers were being soaked through, the possibility of drowning in this mud puddle in the middle of no where was not an acceptable option to him. And the incessant pulling on his neck both below and above water was not helping his attempts to breathe. "Get off!" Davros hissed as they came up for air again. "You won't get it off so back Off!" He punctuated his final statement by biting a hoof that happened too close to his mouth.

Mal yelped and immediately let go of the winged stranger, "Now that was just uncalled for!" He rubbed his sore hoof and used his tail to push the stallion further towards the middle of the water hole. Yeah, those big wings might be helpful up in the sky but they're not going to do any good in here. The water was his territory.

"I'm not interested in drowning!" Davros growled back, kicking hard against the water and the kelpi's tail that sought to continue to push him back. "So give it up and back off!" He couldn't believe it, all this mess over a silly metal collar. Not that he was willing to give it up but really, this slower life forms of the watch world were pathetic. All this because he needed a little sip of water. He should have just stayed to the clouds and waited for a timely shower.

"Don't want to drown, that's a reasonable request I reckon," Mal grunted still struggling to keep a grip on the slippery stranger in the water. "Well then all you have to do is give up this shiny metal collar, it's really," he grunted giving another firm tug at the winged one's neck. "As simple as that!"

"You want the collar so bad?" Davros growled. "I'm the only one who can remove it!" he gasped struggling to keep his head above the water. That kelpi was strong - way too strong to defeat out here in the water. "Let me get to shore so I can remove it - then you can get out of here!" he hissed the last of it and aimed another kick at the kelpi's body beneath the waves.

Mal considered the stranger's words for a few moments. If the wiggling winged one was telling the truth he could get out of this with only a few bruises and the nice shiny collar. But if he was lying then Mal would be losing a chance at some fabulous treasure and well, Mal didn't really like the sound of that. He kicked his tail hard pulling the stranger out further into the water to a sand barge. Mal figured if he could get the stranger's hooves wedged in the sand then he might just have to give up that collar regardless of any intentions he may have had otherwise.

"WAIT!" Davros yelped as they went further into the water. "What are you doing?!" He struggled against the current and the water horse's strength. "I said I'd give you what you want! Now let me go!" This plan would only work as long as the dumb water horse believed what he said. Otherwise he would drown. Drowning was not part of the plan today.
