Quote: There was urgency in Mest’s voice, and Lazarus woke instantly. “What is it?” he asked, pressing close against the large draft’s side. “Enemies? Are we in danger? Sho—oh.” He’d noticed the moving basket.
Quote: Anchovy showed much more enthusiasm than the silent, staring Lazarus. “Oh! Oh! I can’t wait!” she cried, leaping to her feet. Some may have thought the usdia were at a disadvantage due to their size, but boy could she shift from sleeping to sprinting faster than any full-sized soquili. She ran rings around her parents and siblings, as if to transfer her energy to them.
Quote: The female foal was not so content as her brother. She pressed against the boundaries of the confining basket, the motion splitting the weaves so that dots of light shone on her pelt. She was curled around herself and it was difficult to find solid footing but – there! Freedom! She had managed to poke one leg out of a hole.

Quote: “It looks like a leg to me,” Lazarus commented helpfully. He nipped his mate’s ear to show that, despite his dry tone, he was only joking, and continued to watch the basket. His expression wasn’t as rapt as Mest’s, but he was interested. After all, Anchovy hadn’t turned out like they expected. She was tiny, for one thing, and... well, alive. He’d hadn’t truly believed in the Wishing Star’s power before she’d come along. Now, they had two more.
Quote: “A brother would be great! I wouldn’t mind a baby sister, either!” Anchovy stood on Mest’s side opposite of Lazarus, ears pressed forward as if her life depended on it. She inched closer at the exposed leg with a soft laugh, tail waving joyfully. “Hey, there! I’m your big sis!” she told it.
Quote: The little filly wriggled her foot, but it was uncomfortable having one limb free while the rest were still cramped. She tried to widen the hole, but it was much harder breaking the weave with a knee than it was with a hoof, and she eventually tucked her leg back inside. She was quiet for a few moments, thinking up a new plan. Finally, she poked her nose out of the hole and honked.

Quote: The filly squalled. She didn’t need help! (Though that didn’t stop her from nosing eagerly at the soft, warm thing that had touched her.) She wriggled to push her face farther out of the basket. Her blue eyes, a darker shade of Lazarus’, could be seen within a few moments. Grunting with the effort, she pressed her hooves down and pushed. Pop! went the basket lid. Unfortunately, her head was still stuck in her self-made hole, and it was her hindquarters that had made its escape from the now-uncovered top. She sat down with a thump, the basket stuck to her like a frill, and finally conceded to accept assistance from the forms that smelled so familiar to her.
Quote: Anchovy laughed, though not unkindly, while Lazarus raised a brow behind her. “ This one looks like you, da!” she called towards Lazarus, grinning wide. The basket had suggested as much already, but it was always nice to have it confirmed. Though she had a nice blend of her parent’s coat, it was still Mest’s gray that was predominant with her.
