OK here's the story. My parents put their surnames together.
Dad's side: My grandad is from Northern Ireland (Newtownards, Antrim) This is what irishsurnames.com says about it
The name Orr in Ireland is derived from Scottish settlers who arrived into the Province of Ulster in the seventeenth century. The main settlement points were Counties Down and Antrim where the majority of descendants can still be found.
Mum's side: My mum is from Kilkenny, but her father I think is from Tipperary. This is what irishsurnames.com says about the name
The names Beattie and Beatty in Ireland are usually of immigrant origin having been brought to the country by settlers who arrived from Scotland especially during the seventeenth century. These names are also an anglicized form of the Gaelic occupation 'Biadhtach' meaning 'public victualler' and exist as such as Beatagh and Betagh in County Westmeath
sweatdrop Both the names are originally Scottish!

I thought it kinda a coincidence that they're both Scottish. My dad was making a family tree a while back but I don't know what happened!

sean.co.uk I feel a bit bad that I don't know what mine is... or even if I have one. Yeah, I have a rough time trying to come up with anything on my own searches, even though I know my ancestor's name and where he came from. =P
