So "The Number 23" is just a movie right?? There's nothing out of the norm about 23 right? Well, depends on who you ask. Some people really are obsessed with 23. I'm not obsessed but it's interesting to me. I used to see it a lot, but you know, if you go looking for any number you will find it. And there are other numbers people become obsessed with. But why 23? Well, I've decided to start my list back up. Here are some interesting facts and references to the number 23! Obviously the references aren't really blow you away kind of stuff because they were deliberate, but I find them interesting as well.

I plan on adding to this, as well as fact check. I have stumbled upon quite a few that were inaccurate. If you find any you'd like to add or see one you think is false please post and let me know! :3

In Science

- Each parent contributes 23 chromosomes to the DNA of a child.

- In humans, the 23rd chromosome determines gender.

- The human Biorhythm cycle is 23 days.

- It takes 23 seconds for blood to circulate through the human body.

- Nobel Prize-winning economist John Forbes Nash, the inspiration for the film "A Beautiful Mind", was obsessed with the number 23 and it featured prominently in his nervous breakdown. He claimed that Pope John 23 was in fact himself, the evidence being that 23 was his favorite number. Nash also published 23 scientific articles, which I find obviously deliberate.

- 23 is the width of the Arecibo message, sent to space in search for extraterrestrial intelligence.

- The Earth is inclined on it's orbital plane by 23.5 degrees. The "point-five" can be represented as 5 = 2 + 3.

- The first message sent by telegraph was a quotation from the Book of Numbers, chapter 23, verse 23.

- The ideal orbit for a satellite is 23,000 miles above the Earth.

- It's -23 Celsius on Mars. The distance from the center of Mars to its nearest moon is 23,500 km.

- Every 23rd wave crashing on a beach averages twice the size as normal.

- The first Apollo landing on the moon was at 23.63 degrees east; the second was 23.42 degrees west.

In Math

- 23 is the sum of three other, consecutive, prime numbers; 5, 7 and 11. It is the first prime number showing this characteristic.

- The sum of the first 23 primes is 874, which is divisible by 23.

- According to the birthday paradox, in a group of 23 (or more) randomly chosen people, the probability is more than 50% that some pair of them will have the same birthday.

- There were 23 problems on David Hilbert's famous list of unsolved mathematical problems.

- 2 / 3 =.666666.. infinite 6's

In Religion

- Psalm 23 is possibly the most quoted and best known Psalm. Psalms is also the 23rd book in the Douay–Rheims Bible.

- In Islam, the Qur'an was revealed in a total of 23 years to Muhammad. Muslims believe the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad on the 23rd night of the 9th Islamic month.

- The Principia Discordia states that "All things happen in fives, or are divisible by or are multiples of five, or are somehow directly or indirectly appropriate to 5" This is referred to as the Law of Fives. The 23 Enigma is regarded as a corollary of this law, since 2 + 3 = 5. In these works, 23 is considered lucky, unlucky, sinister, strange, or sacred to the goddess Eris or to the unholy gods of the Cthulhu Mythos.

In Sports

- Manchester City F.C. retired their number 23 shirt in 2003 following the death of Marc-Vivien Foé.

- In darts, 23 is the lowest score that cannot be gained with the throw of a single dart.

Tragedies/ Misfortunes

- 230 people died on TWA Flight 800. My art teacher and his fiance were on this flight. crying

- Serial killer Ted Bundy was allegedly executed on January 23, 1989. The records show that he was actually executed January 24, 1989 at 7:16 AM (7 + 16 = 23).

Illuminati

Video Games

- In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a deku scrub states "The order is...2 3 1. Twenty-three is number one!" as a hint to defeating his brethren deeper in the dungeon. (I found this myself but wiki phrased it better than I could)

I've been pretty lucky,
considering emotion_facepalm my birthday is 4/23

But....
I do know a lady that
has the worst birthday luck ever neutral

Feb 23.

Every year she has bad things
happen on the day of her birthday.

Appendix burst.
Car accident.
Arrested.
Food poison.
Invitations sent out to the wrong people (No one showed up).

sweatdrop My mom and I always wait
every year to find out what happened.
We're never disappointed.

Dang, that sucks to have an awful birthday. T.T I've been there, but I've only had 4 bad ones I can remember. And the worst thing was when me and my ex got in a fight cause I invited an ex. We were friends for like 10 years, screw that. I don't care about our past.. that's the whole point, it was the past. I did get a ticket once on my birthday for consumption of alcohol. But I pretty much knew as soon as he handed me the ticket I could weasel my way out because he wrote it as "possession due to consumption" which is pretty ridiculous. Like I had the alcohol in my body so I was possessing it? xD It was thrown out and I didn't even have to go to court. My friend got a lawyer even though I told her that wasn't a real crime. She paid $500 for her case to be thrown out exactly like mine. xD

There was more about 23 and Shakespeare but I lost it. I hadn't saved the list in a while and when I hit "submit" I was logged out of gaia and it was lost. scream

I probably won't get to working on it again tonight because I'm already freaking exhausted. Just getting my notifications out of the way so I don't have a ton tomorrow, haha.

I love the Legend of Zelda reference (mainly because that's one of my favorite video games heart ). These facts are so cool! I wonder what the fascination is with the number 23 after all...

Spooky... eek

23 never seems to relate to me personally. There was this one time though, in aisle 23 at Wal-Mart the woman shorted me $100 on my check I cashed. I freaked out and came back almost crying begging her to believe me. I was sooo lucky she did. Despite the fact she gave me the $100 I never used aisle 23 again, haha.

Yeah, that's one of the few I found on my own. I was gonna type it out in my own words but I found it on Wikipedia.. I was actually kinda sad other people noticed it. xD

I had my own epic list a few years ago I made of ones I personally found. But it was on a phone I ended up throwing against the wall. xD I had a bad temper back then. The Zelda one and the one about Catwoman's apt # were the only ones I could remember. I can almost swear it was also the # of Excel's apt from Excel Saga but I can't find anything online about it. I guess I need to watch some episodes and look for it.

Here's one I found on the Conspiracy Wiki. For you fans of serial killers out there:

Quote:
Serial killer Ted Bundy was allegedly executed on January 23, 1989. The records show that he was actually executed January 24, 1989 at 7:16 AM (7 + 16 = 23).

I watched a biography on him one time. burning_eyes

It's scary to know how he was with women and what he did afterwards. D: It makes me scared to befriend people who come off as 'charming'.
