Tolas "NPCs" are characters that are similar to, but not quite, NPCs. If you barge into their house and start smashing pots looking for currency, they aren't going to gift you a potion for your troubles, but more likely curse at you and have you arrested.
These are similar to normal PCs (player characters) in that:
- They will have their own thoughts, feelings, opinions - These thoughts, feelings, and opinions may mean they treat some characters they personally like better than others, or less, and so on - They are able to form relationships (of romance, friendship, enemies, etc.) with PCs - They are played by one specific person (for the time being either JadeEye, Kaelyndra, or Hopefolly)
These are similar to NPCs / not like PCs in that:
- Their primary purpose is to progress plots of players or to move the shop plot forward - As such, they are often have more knowledge on specific issues than your typical PC would - They will not be placed in the journal of their players and you'll find them only in specific NPC-based plot threads - They will not be used for strictly personal RP purposes except in the event relationships form between them and PC characters through player-centric/shop-centric plot RPs - If the staff member in charge of a certain NPC leaves, they must either be given to a new staff member to play or be retired / killed off so a character of equivalent purpose played by active staff can take their place
Examples of these characters include:
- Guardians of magic trees - Leaders of groups led primarily by NPC characters (such as the Mountain Guard), either for the time being or permanently - Characters that frequently appear in invitation only ORPs
Characters will each have their own post and will be posted as they're colored / written.
These characters are open for RP at any time. Please PM the mule, not their players, to set up a specific RP. Note that staff will not always be able to do an RP right away based on their own schedule / real life, but we will try out best to accommodate everyone.

RAVAR, SHAMAN OF THE MOUNTAIN / WALLMAKER and ASKEL, EXPERT TRACKER Ravar is the current Wallmaker (leader) of the Mountain Guard. He is both warden of the prison and king of the civilians. He is Shaman of the Mountain and uses his ability to see that prisoners are kept from escaping and Mountain civilians' needs are met.
Ravar is approaching middle-aged, old enough to be respected by most guards, but too young to appease his more judgmental elders. He is not a raging, mindless oaf, but he is vicious as is more or less necessary to do the work that he does.
Like most Wallmakers in the past, he has no family of his own and very few friends to speak of. His reputation overall is that he rules with an iron fist and puts the laws before his personal feelings, opinions, and relationships, sometimes to the point of preventing progress due to his unwillingness to try new methods.
So far, there have been no escapes under his six year rule and he will fight tooth and claw to keep that record going.
Askel is a former Timekeeper slave, picked out to be taken to the Mountain Guard courtesy of his large build and above average tracking / hunting abilities four years ago. He is kept in a stonekeep (prison cell) same as the others when necessary, but most of his time is spent at Ravar's side. He is frequently insulted by prisoners and accused of trading one form of slavery for another. He seems to have no loyalty to his fellow wolf, though many have tried to socialize with him thinking they might win him over.
The most noteworthy difference between Askel and any other prisoner is that he is not forced to return to his homeland, the Timekeepers, in the winter; instead, he remains with Ravar. He does, however, help escort the others there and is responsible for hunting down and killing two prisoners attempting to make escapes, both wolves.
Because he rarely speaks, new prisoners sometimes assume him to be mute. "Mindless" is also a word you will often hear to describe him, but indeed he is more than meets the eye.
Ravar's RPs typically consist of: Being informed of problems by captains or guards Overseeing the arrival of new prisoners Building new stonekeeps (prison cells) Negotiating temporary sentences / drop-off locations with group leaders Escorting prisoners to the Timekeepers in the winter and so on
Askel's RPs typically consist of: Prisoners attempting to win him over Prisoners communicating with him in other manners when kept in his own stonekeep near theirs RPs that involve Ravar Hunting down (and possibly fighting with and/or killing) those attempting to escape

OXOTL, GUARDIAN SEER OF THE OVERSEERS For many, using the term Guardian to describe Oxotl may be stretching the facts. Aged late into his middle years, Oxotl is more or less tired of beating the bush. None of his words are pampered, and some rumor him to actually add venom onto his statements in order to test the durability of new seers who think they can "handle the heat". There is more rumor than truth to this statement. In fact, Oxotl's biggest problem is that he wants everyone to succeed, but he has trouble understanding it doesn't always have to be his way. He's well known for giving advice when it's not asked for. This is sometimes a source of tension between him and (lynx name) when he butts into shaman business.
Because of his desire to see success, no seer is better known for his patience. As long as you're willing to keep trying, Oxotl will keep mentoring. While he'll curtly inform a fellow seer that they're doing something wrong, he'll also be the last to tell them to quit trying. Seers, he believes, are born of strong mental will, patience, and dedication. He will encourage even the weakest of seers to keep trying.
Oxotl tells thinks as straight as he sees them, and this is reflected in his use of powers and interactions with others. It is well known that even talented seers can't keep a secret from Oxotl. He enjoys reminding them and other species of this by speaking to them almost exclusively within their own heads. On the flip side, Oxotl retains a relatively open mind for other seers to read, and welcomes them to investigate his thoughts.
Being a seer, it likely comes as little surprise that thoughts are something Oxotl encourages to the highest degree. Rather than tell someone outright their own thoughts are wrong, Oxotl encourages all species to ask the hard questions and take responsibility for their own actions. He is a firm believer that there is no true good or evil, only actions and consequences which affect others positively or negatively. Along these lines, he praises thought before action. There's nothing Oxotl distastes more than an animal who acts before he thinks. Worse still, an animal who thinks and then ignores the logic in his own mind. And should he meet an animal he doesn't like, he will state so immediately and directly.
