Quote:
Message From: Mimsy Morris
Message To: America Jones

A warm welcome to you, neighbor!

I would enjoy your company for tea and cake, if you are not currently occupied. I have just begun to boil the water for the tea, so you may feel free to visit our home as soon as you are able. I hope to see you very soon!

The fact that the message would arrive at a time when America would be home was not by coincidence. Mimsy had been very carefully 'observing' her at the greatest possible distance for a brief time now, which had already resulted in several full pages in her pocket moleskine notebook. The information was of immeasurable convenience for things such as tea parties - which was probably the most innocuous thing that she would ever use it for.

She had been entirely honest in the message: the kettle was on to boil, and her tins of tea were stacked into small, organized piles next to two teacups on two saucers, awaiting her guest. Though they waited patiently on the table, she waited patiently by the door, standing in silence as she stared at it in anticipation of a knock.

To say America was pleased to be invited over to Mimsy's house would be a gross understatement. This was her first neighbor visit, because she was neighbors, real neighbors, with Mimsy and she was visiting her and this was a neighborhood where s**t like this happened and it was a Thing.

After a quick primp, America grabbed up some freshly baked cookies (god bless you, Kon), put them into a tin, and was out the door within a few minutes. The short walk over may have involved skipping, and soon the girl was rapping shave and a haircut on the Morris's door.

As much as she tried to imply otherwise, it was fairly obvious as soon as she opened the door that Mimsy had prepared for this moment. There was nothing casual about any of it, down to her appearance - she had taken time to ensure a particular image, and was meticulously kempt from head to toe, differing from her typical approach of caring only about her hair being braided. Her dress had even been acquired specifically to be worn no earlier than this occasion, but she drew no special attention to that fact.

"Hello," she greeted her, wearing a pleasant smile as a finishing accessory. Her eyes wandered briefly towards the tin in her hands before she stepped aside to allow her room to walk through the door. "Please make yourself comfortable. Are you well? I hope that you have had no difficulty moving into your home - and that you have preserved some of your appetite, so you might assist me in depleting the excessive stock of cakes that I have created."

Handing Mimsy the tin, America beamed, "Just a little something to say how-do neighbor mine! And aren't you just looking fine as anything, Mrs. Morris?" She slipped off her shoes inside the entry way, a sign that 1. she trusted the condition of the floors and 2. she respected the housework needed to maintain them.

The girl then proceeded to to take a good look around, answering cheerfully as she did so, "Very well, thank you. We were a good half moved in before we actually did move in, so not too much trouble. There's still a bit to do, but it can wait until I get back from Russia."

America was grinning at the cakes, eye bright with pleased laughter, "I can a lot of cake, so long as you don't mind carrying me home if I pass out."

The tin was accepted with a polite and gracious nod, and Mimsy held it in both hands without making any motions to open it--yet. It was probably only a matter of time before curiosity got the better of her, as it always did.

"Thank you." She smiled a bit wider in return, though still not nearly as charismatic as America, and temporarily released the tin with one hand to curtsy. "You also look quite nice, as always."

Once she'd closed the door firmly behind her, she crossed the room to place the tin on a table that was spread and set for two, but remained standing for the moment. It was pleasantly surprising to learn that she trusted her in the event of a less-than-conscious state, especially within the boundaries and confines of her territory. Truly, America had an impressive knack for reminding her that she was not the threat that she so often perceived her to be.

"Yes, I will carry you home. Or you are welcome to rest here, if necessary," she readily assured her, head tilting to one side. "Are you venturing to Russia upon your next leave, or will you be temporarily relocating to an outpost there?"
