There was something to be said for getting money from scouring the street and a few hand outs. While meat could be hunted and some vegetables and herbs grown in the camp, some supplies could only be gotten in the City, and the one Daniel wanted currently was bread. While accustomed to Tortillas, initially, he didn't make tortillas well on open flame yet, overheating the dough into a crispy, delicious mess he turned into poor sopopillas, and so today, like many days, he came for, among other things, some loaves of cheap bread, p-artly for himself, partly for Almary, and partly Subra and anyone else who asked nicely. Daniel walked in slowly, trying to feel calm as he approached the bakery's case to examine loaves of bread in curiosity, humming to himself a mariachi tune as he did, and wondered. Which one was best tasting for cheap?

If any gods out there are listening, please please PLEASE just put me out of my misery.. The bakery today was just so freaking BORING. It was a slow day so far and his boss was gone to run some errands real quick so for the longest time, Wies had no one to talk to. He had gone about and cleaned every inch of this place and there was nothing left to do but stand boredly behind the counter waiting for someone to come by. How he wish he had more exerience in the kitchen because right now was the optimum time to go ahead and meddle with dough and make something never seen before. But he sucked and was stuck behind the counter. Someone did finally come in though, someone who was humming something unfamiliar. Eeh, it was more entertaining than being alone anyway. He didn't REALLY want to walk around the corner and talk so he wouldn't but he would speak to him regardless. He had to, twas his job! "Welcome! Is there anything you're looking for in particular today?"

And end to this war and a purpose is nice. flashed across Daniel's mind as he looked up, smiling to hide the sadness. He wasn't letting on. Not in the City. It wasn't safe. "I was looking for bread. What do you recommend on a budget?" Daniel asked. Normally his accent didn't slip as much as it used to, but stress zat camp of being familyless, and thrown out of his - former - mother's home there caused the small old habit to slip. He ignored it.

Since Wafflefries couldn't hear what the other was saying in his head and respond with a snappy comeback he responded more appropriately, paying no head to any accent or anything of the sort. At this point it seemed that there were alot of people from many different backgrounds in DC even if the place was going to hell. "Well, If you're on a budget look to your left. We have a stock of day-old bread right there. Still good, and cheap. There's day old sweets there too, anything that's not baked today is discounted."

"Sweets?" And he perked, smiling at the thought of getting Almary and Subra both a delicious treat to nibble, the male senshi smiling. "Well! That helps." Worries forgotten momentarily, Daniel began examining a rack, hand shooting to his pocket in an attempt to hide his henshin pen carefully, hoping the boy across the counter didn't notice. Entering the city was dangerous. Daniel was saddened into recklessness.

"Yeah, see?" Ugh.. He didn't want to come from behind the counter but this guy seemed like he couldn't read the signs. DISCOUNT BREAD was pretty obvious, and there were sweets right next to them. He must have not been used to civilization anymore. An image of a wild boy who lived in the woods came to mind but that wouldn't make sense when applied to this guy. He was too clean. "There's some right there and right there, and right there." Wies hoped that was obvious enough for the boy, otherwise they would have some problems.

Daniel nodded, mentally glad the pen wasn't noticed as he began evaluating loaves and sweets, studying the prices and going over the budget he had mentally as he thought, expression blank, for now. Was this a good buy, or that? Hmmm.

Wies was getting more and more pissed at this dude. How long did it take to make a ******** decision on what he wanted to get. It was all cheap! And it was all good! It wasn't going to make that much of a difference what he chooses to get! And it was awkward for him because what else was he supposed to look at? There was one person in his goddamned shop doing nothing but browsing. He wasn't suspicious, but he had FORCED him around his counter and now he couldn't even make a decision?! And he knew, Wies just KNEW that as soon as he went back behind his counter he'd have to go and come RIGHT back to help this damned kid. Gods help him if that was the case. He'd strangle the kid.

If things had gone very differently and Daniel read minds, he'd probably have agreed with Wies. He didn't forget the restaurant business, after all, but today, well - this was not only food, but a treat for his partners! Finally though, he seemed to come to a decision, turning to Wies with a grateful expression. "I would like these, please." He said softly. He hoped Bailey liked chocolate. He doubted Almary would turn down anything, but he never knew. Still, he offered the oither teen an unintentionally tired smile of appreciation.

NovaCracker by all means, make small talk. rofl Wies couldn't really care less about who the food was for. He wasn't a bad person but what did he care? It would be the same reaction he'd give if Daniel wanted to eat all the sweets himself. Wies wasn't going to call him a fat greedy slob. It was none of his business and being as such he didn't give a flying fladoodle about what the kid did with the food. As long as he had the money to pay for it. The moment Daniel had finally decided on what he wanted to get Wies set to work. He packaged the snacks up as neatly as he could just as his one armed boss taught him to. And it wasn't too shabby either if he said so himself. He was no Picasso at ribbons but he'd get a B at least. Maybe even a B+ in ribbon tying. "Alright, anything else?" Daniel's tired smile was greeted with one of his own, and a slight eye twitch. Don't he dare start making small talk there was nothing he hated more.

"It might cover it." Daniel said calmly, thinking. "Hey - what do you recommend if you want to buy a girl something?" Daniel asked innocently. There was a time it would accompany a grin - why not take his time? - bt the question was serious enough. For now.

Wies tried so hard so so so so very hard not to let the twitch in his eye show. He didn't know about girls! He didn't care about their whinyness or what they liked or what not. They were just a bit higher up on his 'hate flippin' everyone' list than guys were. "Dude. You're in a BAKERY. If you're in here, that means it's food, right? Here, most foods are either 'sweet' or 'savory'. So if you know your girl, then you can narrow it down. If she likes sweet, what kind of sweet? Is it Chocolaty or fruity? Or does she like creamy? If it's savory more than sweet, does she like more of a veggie taste or a cheesy taste? Hell, if she likes sweet AND cheese, cream cheese pastry then." Oh man if his boss heard him he bet he'd be fired so fast. Maybe it didn't seem entirely rude but it was pushed through gritted teeth. "Either way if you want to buy her something here, it's going to be food."

Daniel studied Wies a moment, expression going flat promptly. "I know it is food." He said, masking his crossness. Badly. "My father cooked. I was hoping for some idea of what to get." He stared, trying to bore in a point. "There's many choices, and not everyone sdhares in-depth preferences."

"Good that you know, and I offered what I could suggest, dude. If you wanted to get your girl something from here, I would have assumed you knew what she liked." Wies didn't really care much anymore about formalities with this customer anymore and he leaned forward onto his counter not backing down from his opinion. This kid wanted to be cross with him. Two could play that game, buddy. "If you gave me something like I suggested to work with, then MAYBE I could help you. But since you can't, duty tells me to suggest the most expensive thing then work backwards from that. But since you're browsing the day old bread section, I can assume you ain't got the money for expensive stuff, so unless you can give me something MORE to work with then all I can do is make vague suggestions." He grinned as he felt that he won and stretched up towards the ceiling. Atleast this all was entertaining now. Maybe he should let up though. Bossman could walk in any moment. "Look, dude. Broham. Pal. If this girl likes your or loves you or whatever, I'm sure he'll like whatever you give her. Unless, you know, she is allergic. Then she'd be dead."

Tic. Daniel didn't back down from a challenge and since half his family died he didn't have the challenge, Daniel didn't mind leaning into the boy's face equally, eyes narrowing. "No but sdomeone with information might know if the better flvored pastries have different taste. For example the blueberry is better than apple, but clearly you are not thinking and don';t want to help." His eyes narrowed sharply.
