To his credit, Justin attempted to compose himself before stepping through the door to the Hua-Ahn Acupuncture Clinic. He felt almost guilty returning - he'd had to cancel his previous three appointments due to a sudden influx of after-hours repair calls. If only electronics would just.. break down before 5pm! But, as a result of that and incessant worrying about his new guardianship, Justin's stress levels were through the proverbial roof. He closed his eyes and exhaled slowly, trying to bring his breathing back under control. Justin had run over to the clinic from his workplace, regardless of the hot weather, hoping he would somehow make it on time for his appointment.
Originally, Marina had forced him to visit, in a way. She'd bought him a gift certificate and scheduled him an appointment and threatened him with bodily harm. The petite woman was so very pushy sometimes, but Justin liked that about his co-worker. Since then, he'd been trying to visit the clinic regularly, finding it to be surprisingly relaxing. In an ideal world, he supposed, he'd have time enough to visit every week. For now, Justin had set up appointments every two weeks, and only with Jezabroux Ferenan. The man was ridiculously skilled. Strangely enough, neither a receptionist nor Jez were in sight. Justin craned his neck back towards the hallway.
"Ah, hello?" he called out quietly, trying to be mindful of possible other clients.

"Someone will be with you in a second," Luka called out, his voice carrying down the hallway. While normally he sat in the receptionist chair to help out his guardian, today he found himself doing more paperwork filing than usual with it just being him and his guardian at the clinic.
"Is that you, Justin?" The acupuncturist asked as he came out of one of the private treatment rooms. "I figured it was you from your voice." Elai said with a smile as he recognized the young man's wavy black locks. Going behind the receptionist's desk, the older male reached for the manilla folder labeled Lindsey, Justin.
"How've you been? I haven't seen you in a while, longer than the usual two week break between our meetings. Did something happen?" He asked, scribbling a few things into the other's file. "If you follow me, we can get started on today's treatment." He gave Justin a smile before moving towards the room he had come from.

Justin's face relaxed a little into a smile, his pale green eyes crinkling at the corners when he saw that now familiar eye patch. He hadn't asked why the other man wore it, deeming it a little too personal of a question - an injury perhaps, or something linked to the shock of white hair that streaked across his face. Elai's interesting looks held no bearing on how the man did his job: which was with careful, precise fingers. As someone working in an industry that also required precision, he could appreciate that wholeheartedly.
"Hey, Elai. Work just uh, got really crazy for a long time. I missed coming here, to be honest. Feel like I'm about to melt from overwork." He gave a little laugh, but the sound was strained. Sticking his thumbs in the pockets of his jeans, he followed placidly behind the tall man. His feet made no noise against the soft carpeting. The entire place was designed to give off a soothing feel. Justin thought idly that the interior designer did an alight job. With a roll of his shoulders, he stepped into the treatment room. His neck cracked loudly.
"Actually, something weird happened recently. It's kind of surreal still. Like I don't think I'm a good fit for it at all, but. uh, what's done is done. And have you ever thought that you might make an awful parent? I mean, I don't even know if you have kids, but -" Justin held up one broad hand, stopping himself. Abruptly, he chuckled and ran that hand through his already mussed hair. "I'm sorry; I'm rambling. The other day I found out that one place, Lab 305, picked me to be one of their guardians, and honestly, I feel more than a little flabbergasted by it."

"Go ahead and lay face down on the chair, you can take your shirt off or I can roll it up later when we start. It's whichever is comfortable for you." He set down the files on the counter. Reaching into the drawer closest to him, he pulled out several small plastic bags. While they seemed unimportant, each baggie had a set of 10 sterilized acupuncture needles.
"You don't have to tell me twice, seems like your body is more than excited to let me know the details." Letting out a slight chuckle, he pulled over the small plastic rolling cart in the corner and placed the bags of needles on top. "Same spots as usual or do you want me to go a little higher on your neck, shoulders area than usual? It sounds like your muscles are tenser than usual."
Leaning over the counter sink, Elai began to sanitize his hands in preparation for the treatment. "Oh? Well, that's an interesting question." He turned to look over his shoulder and caught Justin giving him a slight apologetic look. "I don't mind questions about myself to be honest. For the record, I do not have kids in the traditional sense but I do have someone who's like a child of my own. And, he did take more work to look after than most kids between the ages of 8-18." Drying off his hands, he turned to face Justin. "I always thought that I wouldn't be ready to take care of someone else, but when the time comes, somehow you find yourself ready."
As Justin mentioned the words Lab 305, Elai's eyes grew big. "Really?!" He exclaimed, excitement seeping into his words. It was uncharacteristic for the acupuncturist to show something beyond a calming demeanor in front of his clients. "I actually, am a member of their family already. My charge is here today. Now that I think on it, you are one of the few people who have yet to meet Luka while he's been working here. I can get him if you'd like to meet him."
The smile of Elai's face was growing wider by the second. Meeting new guardians and raevans, even potential raevans was exciting, but the fact that it was Justin becoming a guardian excited him the most. He already had a feeling that it would be a good experience for the tense male. "Would you like to meet Luka?"

At Elai's question, Justin's hands puased mid-button and he scrunched his face briefly in thought. "Probably could use it a little higher, if that's alright. Although I trust your judgement." Idly, he wondered how Elai would stick needles into his shoulders if his shirt were still on. Luckily, he'd never been particularly body-shy - at least not around people in the doctor category. Which he was. It had never made since to him to be concerned with covering up in front of a professional, especially when that professional likely saw more partially nude bodies a day than Justin saw in a month ...or more. It wasn't like Justin's sex life was terribly fun. Shrugging his shirt off, he listened to the man's response to his rambling words.
No traditional kids? did he keep bonsai or a bunch of cats? The acupuncturist didn't seem like an extreme cat-ist. Catist... that wasn't even a word. Justin snorted, but his eyebrows crept up at Elai's excited tone. It was more emotion than he'd ever heard from the acupuncturist, funnily enough. The tall, lean man was typically calm and radiating an oddly soothing feeling. Justin supposed it was useful in his job. But it was Justin's turn to squeak in surprise. He turned, eyes widening.
"Really?" he said excitedly, his own smile mirroring Elai's. "I, uh, I guess if I'd read the list I got I would've realized, but... I never expected that I already knew another guardian! I'd love to meet Luka. I-I've been worrying myself to death about what I need to do to get ready, or what to do after my raevan arrives, even. I never, ever expected to get chosen, really. How long have you been with Luka?" Justin's eyes gleamed with curiosity. His shirt still hung on his shoulders, more than half-unbuttoned; his state of undress had been completely forgotten in light of the news.

"That's a good question! Lets see... I picked him up around August of 2010, so wow, it's already been 4 years!" The acupuncturist exclaimed as he counted the years on his hand again. "I can't believe it's already been so long..."
Elai turned to face Justin. "And, don't worry. It takes a few days to adjust but they're all quite smart. I mean, if you're very worried, I could probably work you up a list of what helped me when I first got Luka. Actually, let me grab him." Not even waiting for Justin's response, Elai left the room to find his charge.
A minute or two passed before the door to the private room opened again, first there was the familiar face of Elai and behind him a new face. "Justin, this is Luka. And Luka, this is Justin. Justin joined the Lab family recently." The acupuncturist said with a warm smile. He stared at Justin for a moment before it clicked in his brain that the younger man was still without a shirt. "Oh, my apologies Justin. I forgot to give you time to put your shirt back on."
"Hi, Justin." The Satyr said slowly, unsure of whether he was supposed to be as excited as Elai about meeting another guardian. For him, the pleasure came from meeting others of his kind, not their families. "You can keep your shirt off, it doesn't bother me. I help out in the clinic, so, it's pretty normal to me to see people without a shirt on in the building." The Satyr took a moment to take in Justin's appearance, his golden orbs more muted than usual. There was nothing he found particularly... curious about this man. Usually there was something that caused him to gravitate towards new people, but he did not feel that at all with Justin.
"Can I ask a question? Do you have your fel essence with you? May I see it?" The Satyr's pupils dilating slightly. "Do you already have the soul?" He wanted to know what Justin's raevan would be like. "When will it be born?" He asked. He had a feeling that he was asking way to many questions at once, but he wanted answers.

Justin opened his mouth to say something along the lines of 'yes, please', but Elai was gone. It was a little strange to see the man so utterly animated. Strange, but not bad. It made Justin feel a little more at ease. Still, in those few minutes that Elai was gone, Justin did not think to re-don his short, or button buttons, or of anything excepting that he would get to meet another raevan. Specially, Justin would get to meet another raevan whose guardian seemed extraordinarily enthusiastic about helping him. He bounced up and down on his toes.
And then Elai was back, and following in his wake was Luka. The frei was all brightness and light, creams and oranges, and his skin glowed. Luka was fascinating; it made Justin feel a hair grubby, which was normal. "Uh... I... I didn't even remember I didn't have a shirt on." He laughed sheepishly (this was, for all intents and purposes, Justin's default laugh as he lived in a constant state of near-mortification). The raevan's eyes were dull, as if lightly bored. Well, Justin thought airily, he was a boring, normal kind of guy. Raevans were flashy, beautiful, and he liked that about them. "Anyway, I'm Justin, which you, uh, know." He wasn't entirely sure if he should offer his hand for a handshake or not, but while he was debating, Luka spoke.
"Oh!" He turned and grabbed his bag off of the floor. It was a leather messenger bag, simple, practical, and devoid of gaming logos. Very unlike Justin. He had left the soul bottle at home, still leery of the death aspect of it. What if he stepped on a piece of grass and stole its soul? It made him feel strangely queasy. With a muttered aha, he pulled out the vial. The glow of it was still strong, the blackness just as strong. Sometimes, Justin just like looking at it - it was soothing, the way it never flickered. He held it out to the frei. While he was wary about who and what touched the soul bottle, the vial seemed harmless, even if that swirling blackness extended past the glass.
"Feel free. It's Independent Bioluminescence." The name was so large for such a tiny piece of glass. Justin smiled. Despite all his anxieties, this was exciting. His pale eyes were wide with rampant curiosity. "I don't have the soul yet, I'm... not sure how to go about that, to be honest. So, I don't know when they'll be born. If you don't mind me asking - what was your soul and essence? Elai, how did you find the soul?"

Luka's eyes grew as big as saucers when Justin pulled the essence out from his bag. The vial was largely a swirling mass of unforgiving darkness illuminated by the solitary glow of a single blue light. There was depth, there was something unsettling in the darkness surrounding the light.
And he felt it in his rune, a easiness that churned in his nonexistent stomach. "What an ominous sight..." The satyr murmured as he reached out a tentative hand to touch the glass vial.
As soon as he made contact with the wall of the vial, Luka let out something akin to a screech before jerking his hand back. In the fraction of a second he had touched the essence, he had felt an ice cold needle piercing through his skin, filling his arm up with ice. "WHAT IS THAT? He shouted, bewildered eyes looking at Justin.
He looked down at his own hand and let out a scream. His arm was black, almost as if someone had covered it in a piece of cloth made from the deepest parts of the ocean. Something had stolen the light out of his arm. "MY ARM!" The Frei's screams ripped through the building as panic shot through him.
It didn't take long for Elai to run into the room, the panicked screams of his charge roaring down the hallways. "Is everything okay?!" The acupuncturist asked, his eyes quickly darting to Justin and then his own charge. It didn't take long for the older man to spot the changes to Luka's arms, and with a gasp of his own, he reached for the Satyr's arm. "Oh my god, Luka! What happened? Does it hurt? Can you move it?"
His head turned to Justin, a look of concern on his face. "Are you alright? Can you tell me what happened?"

Justin laughed a little. "Now I don't know about omin-" His sentence was cut off my Luka's shout. He startled back, jerking away the vial. He froze, like a deer caught in the headlights of a rapidly approaching semi-truck. IT was only Elai's entrance and the panic in the other man's voice that jolted him back to his senses. "I... I don't know! He only touched it, j-just a bit." He stared at the dark patch on Luka's skin. "T-that - nothing like that had ever happened before!" Justin wasn't exactly looking, but if he was, he might have noticed that the essence seemed to grow a little brighter; it pulsed a little, like a small heartbeat. He looked around helplessly.

Elai immediately found himself taking control of the room. "All he did was touch it?" Walking towards Luka, Elai reached for the vial. It was cold to the touch, like ice but nothing painful. And, Justin had said nothing like this had happened before. Brows furrowed, the acupuncturist set the vial back on the table top before moving Luka to one of the chairs.
"I need you to take deep breaths, and tell me how it hurts. Can I see your hand?"
"I-I... Actually Elai, it doesn't even hurt anymore." Luka stammered out, clearly bewildered and confused by what had just happened. Only moments ago, it felt as if his very arm was being split into a thousand different strands, and it was already fine. However, even though the pain was gone, his arm was still as black as the ocean's depths.
"I don't know what's going on... but it doesn't hurt." Luka turned to Justin. "What is that?" The youth asked, his eyes lacking the warmth from earlier.

Justin hurried over, snatching up the vial. It didn't feel terribly different to him, just looked a little brighter and... if he were to assign characteristics to it, the vial looked a little bit pleased, somehow. It made him what to scold it, but that would look absolutely nuts so he refrained. His heart beat up into his throat as he shoved the vial away and turned to look at Luka and Elai. "It... it's independent bioluminescence. But, like I said it's never done anything like that before. M-maybe you're allergic?" He paused, running a hand through his hair. "Should we wash your arm - for like, remaining contamination?" vrosal so old so late flay me alive
