The day was coming to an end; the fiery orange rays caressing the forest's leaves as the sun made its way down towards its resting place. The day's time to rest, and Gainesh's time to rise. He had already left his daytime nesting place and made his way over to his favorite tree. Sinking his claws halfway up the trunk, he tore into the bark as he stretched his back. He then proceeded into his wake-up routine that worked all of his muscles until they were warm and limber. Gainesh didn't know what this night would hold, but he'd be prepared for whatever came his way.
Thoroughly warmed up, he proceeded down the gentle sloop that lead to area most of the whistle stallions frequented during the day. Some still lounged around, though most had left already for the evening, called upon by the flock females.
"Evening all", it was a quiet call, but traveled well to all the males around. He received nods, and a few smiles. He was still new to the flock, and there were a few stallions that seemed slightly miffed that he was there. He received no greetings from them, nor did he expect to for some time yet. Ignoring them, he approached one of the other stallions and engaged him in a polite, if somewhat boring, conversation. Wistfully, he thought that he'd prefer to be out and about rather than with his current company.

The day was still young; at least for the young wolf-harpy. She had finished a hunt a few hours ago, and spent the previous hour cleaning up the blood from her muzzle and paws. It was easier for her to hunt on her own; as no one really understood how she worked. How she tracked and hunted with the skills of a wolf. Instead she was seen as a provider, and yet so different that she couldn't understand how the other Sister's hunted either. She paused to look around, eyes flickering up to the sky. It was getting dark, which was the time she liked best. Her muscles flexed under her fir, paws twitching against the earth. She stretched slightly before letting out a dog like yawn, her tongue flopping out the front of her mouth quickly before drawing back into her mouth. She glanced around, before letting out a snort and moved forward and through the territory.
She walked around for a while. Vanrui wasn't sure where she was going. For a moment, she debated on going to look for someone to spar with. And then she decided that was exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted to find someone to test her speed with. She let out a pleased hum at the thought, her long tail flicking behind her, before she padded forward and toward where some of her favorite sparing partners were. She ended up pausing when she was out looking, and her head cocked at the sight of a new stallion; one she hasn't seen or smelled before. The wolf-harpy blinked toward the bird like creature. He reminded her of how her mother looked of a peacock. Stepping forward, her eyes flickered over toward the other stallions who were interested in him. She narrowed his eyes, flashing fangs for a moment, a quick warning that she wanted his attention. When the other stallions left, she moved forward.
The young mare, moved forward with confidence and a predatory grace. She walked over toward him, her ear flicking to the side, before moving around to where she could face the owl stallion straight on. "You look strong... Are you skilled in fighting, stallion?" She asked, her voice rather stern sounding for her young age. She couldn't have been but a year or two into her adult life, and yet she still held herself with a high air and had scars that ran along her soft furred body. She had a fierceness in her eyes that resembled the wolves of the wild, and a gaze that could get almost anyone to do what she wanted.

Gainesh's ears alerted him early on that someone different had entered the Whistler's area. He could hear the soft crunch of leaves under... padded paws? That's interesting. Gainesh didn't turn to the newcomer, still persisting with his conversation. Until that is, the other stallion promptly shut his mouth and shuffled off quite abruptly. Gainesh blinked calmly, his ears picking up the sound of all the other stallions moving off as well. He leisurely, but quite gracefully, turned around just as the newcomer approached him. Slowly he blinked again, golden eyes falling on the creature before him.
She was glorious, though Gainesh was a bit taken aback by a wolf among the flock. He recovered quickly and let his eyes quickly flit over her lithe form. Scars, the light scent of blood, and predatory grace, indicated that this was a true accomplished hunter. And if Gainesh had any doubts, the smoldering light that lingered in the mare's eyes spoke volumes. A smile turned up at the corner's of his beak as he surveyed her. She was perfect. He inclined his head, giving the mare a slight bow, "Yes mistress, I am quite adept at fighting. Do you have need of my services tonight?" His rumbling baritone held little emotion but inside Gainesh was jumping for joy, mentally hoping the she-wolf would say yes.

Vanrui shifted a bit, her eyes lingering over him. She was careful to observe every small inch of him. Her large ears perked and pointed upward and toward him when he addressed her; but she wasn't done. His claws were large; they could leave quite the scratch. And that could be a problem... But at the same time, she was light on her paws and most couldn't catch her. His wings would be a great defense, and it would cause problems if she wasn't able to get past them. But they could also slow him down... Her nose wiggled slightly as she contemplated different things. It would be a great challenge; and a fun one at that. Her tail gave another small flick, the strands shifting and then falling back in a small cascade around her flank.
"Perhaps I do. I've still got energy, and the hunting party is done. Perhaps a nice spar." She stated simply. Without word after, she turned and moved away from the Whistle Stallion territory. She had no need for this prancy stallions who thought themselves "lovely". That was boring and worthless for her. She had so much to do; and so much energy. She was a rare creature in of itself; a wolf-bird with the energy of a pup. And she was going to get her spar even if she had to go find some skinwalker. She moved toward her personal cave, where she had cleared out a good spot ahead in order to train herself on her paws. She stopped at one point to look over her shoulder and see if the stallion was following her.

Gainesh grinned from ear to ear as he followed the mare, surveying her as she lead him out of the Whistler territory. He was already assessing her as she moved ahead of him. It was always best to take measure of your opponent when you had the chance. Light of paw, he was sure it would be hard for him to keep up with her speed; though if she didn't remove the bells for her hind leg, they would prove to be quite the aid to the owl indeed.
As they walked, Gainesh realized the sun had truly fallen beneath the edge of the world, and twilight blues colored the land. If they didn't reach their destination soon, wherever it was they were going, it would soon become true dark. Which suited the owl just fine. His night-vision was twice as powerful as his day vision, and as the area darkened, Gainesh could feel his other senses awakening.
When the she-wolf paused to look at him, Gainesh dipped his head in acknowledgement but otherwise said nothing. His smile still firmly in place. He was excited, and slightly anxious to test his skills against hers. In the short time since he'd joined the flock he had not been granted the opportunity to hunt, or really do much of anything except enjoy the attentions of the other flock members. He hoped he wasn't out of practice too much and he regretted that he would not be able to use flight to his advantage. He had never fought without the use of his wings. In fact, he was used to silently dropping on his prey and crushing spines beneath his powerful talons. Being earthbound would be a challenge indeed. Eagerly, he continued after the mare.

A spar. Vanrui's blood pumped faster in her veins. She hadn't been able to spar in a while. Most of her sisters thought it wasn't fair to put paws against claws. But she could hold her own. She could fight just as well. And she was quick; fast on her paws and able to take turns like a pro. Her tail flicked behind her as she walked, looking around quietly while she moved toward the fenced off area. They wouldn't interrupt her if she was clearly in the mindset to have a fight. Her ears flicked back toward where Gainesh followed her, listening quietly to his claws touching ground. He was heavy footed... that would be an advantage. She smirked slightly, shaking her head, before moving into the fenced area. Her paws pressed her forward, and she moved quietly toward one side of the fence. Her eyes flickered toward Gainesh, and she tilted her head toward him telling him to move forward.
"If you do not scar me, I will not scar you. That being said." Vanrui paused, turning to face him fully. Her eyes hardened slightly, and she held her head up a little higher, staring at him with a sharpness in her eyes. "Do. Not. Scar. Me." She snapped. She hated the thought of having scars on her form. At least from a spar. It seemed like such a petty way to taint her pelt. Where as if she got in a fight in the world out there, a hunt or an attack, then it was different. It was a battle scar that she would wear with pride. But a sparing scar? No. That was not allowed. She took her gaze away from the owl, lifting her hind leg up slightly so she could crane her neck and take hold of the golden bells. She pulled them off her ankle, and dropped it to the grass near the fence. She dipped her head to drop the tooth necklace from her form as well, but left the leather binding around her knee. It helped to keep her steady.
Once properly fitted for the fight, the Foresthowl Harpy turned back toward the owl. As the night grew darker, her wolf senses kicked in. She stared toward him with sharpness only night predators could have. That being said, she was certain Gainesh was going to have a heightened sense as well. He did resemble an owl, after all. Her ears perked up, and she focused once more on the stallion. She sniffed at the air, catching the smell of his feathers and claws. She focused on that, able to use his scent if she happened to lose track of him in the sparing ground. It was small, but there were trees, and he could climb. Her tail flicked behind her, the hair brushing the ground, before she lowered her head and let out a low snarl.
Go time.
