Cuauhtemoc - or Tem as his siblings were calling him, since his name was a bit of a mouthful - stretched as he woke up from his nap. Naps were his favorite thing, he had come to find, especially when he had his brothers and sisters to sleep on. They didn't seem to enjoy napping as much as him, though, so it was with a grumble that he realized he was alone. Puh, the nerve of them! He'd go find his siblings and try to convince them to come back and sleep a little longer with him. He peered out into the blinding sun of outside and sighed just a bit. He wasn't very fond of their home, covered in sand as it was. It was so hot and there was hardly any trees to shade them! His mother called it a desert, but he called it stupid. The den was nice and cool and yet his siblings insisted on gallivanting out in the blazing heat! Not all of them had dark coats like he did, so maybe that was why they didn't mind it so much. Sticking his nose out, he made his slow way from the shade of the den. He squinted against the bright light, green eyes blinking frantically as a breeze blew by and tossed some sand in his face. Ugh...

The day was far too nice to waste lounging inside. She'd spent enough time in the den with her siblings that morning, and Nolcha wanted to be outside with the sun for as long as she could. As the lightest of her brothers and sisters, she didn't bake in the sun quite like they did. On the flipside, she realized that none of them would stay out in the heat as long as she would. Their loss! Nolcha had spent the morning chasing after tumbling plants and pouncing at bugs, but soon became bored without a playmate. Fine, then! She'd go and find one! Heading back towards their den, Nolcha spotted her brother slinking out of the shade and into the sun, and she bounded happily towards him, tail flicking happily. Cuauhtemoc wasn't doing anything - in fact, he'd probably just woken up anyway - and maybe he'd play with her instead! "Tem!" she called, just before she came to a quick halt in front of him. "Tem! Come play with me!"

Tem spat out some sand and made a little face. Sand was annoying, painful, and tasted bad! The least it could do was taste good since it got in your mouth so often. Shaking his head to get some of of his mane, he opened his eyes after when he heard a familiar voice calling his name. Sure enough, one of his sisters was prancing across the little dunes to their den, all smiles and eager to play.
"Nolchaaaa it's too hot to play," Tem whined softly as she asked him to go with her. "I wanted to find someone to nap with. That's way more fun! Then we can play at night when it's nice and cold!" The temperature around here was a pretty funny thing: as hot as it got in the day time, the temperature would plummet at night to incredibly cold. Tem liked played when it was cooler, even if he shivered and his teeth clacked together, because at least you could run around and warm up.
"Or come play in the den," he said, nodding back to the hole in the sand supported by rocks. "It's so hot out here I'm gonna melt!"

Oh, that was right. Tem was the one up as soon as the sun went down, and always trying to drag them out of their warm huddle to play in the dark. She shook her head and stuck her tongue out at his response.
"Napping isn't fun," she said, resuming her bouncing in circles around him and swatting a few times at his twitching tail. "What's the fun in sleeping? There's nothing to do when you're asleep! When I'm grown up, I'm never gonna sleep! I'm gonna stay up and play all day long!"
She came to a stop in front of him once more because he didn't seem to want to give in any more than she did. But he was looking utterly miserable with the sand in his mane and the way he kept blinking back the sunlight, and Nolcha felt herself giving in to how pitiful he was looking. With an exaggerated sigh, she nudged her nose against his shoulder and gestured to their home.
"Okay, fine. We can play inside. But no napping!" she insisted.

"I'm gonna do that too!" Tem said, standing up in excitement at the thought of playing all day long. When he was bigger his mane would grow in and keep his head cool, at least, since it was white. Granted, he'd still probably enjoy playing the most at night, but then he'd be able to withstand the sun a bit more.
Nolcha's agreement to his terms made him grin and he turned around to dart back into the shade of the den with a little whoop of delight. He spun around, kicking up a bit of sand, and lowered his front half to the ground, rump high in the air in an invitation to play.
"No napping!" he agreed. "But maybe when we're tired," he added in a little whisper, his tail flicking back and forth before he pounced. He gave a mighty roar - in his mind, at least. In reality it was a squeaky excuse of a roar - as he flew through the air towards his sister, ready to tackle her to the ground.
