Silver hair drawn back in a high ponytail and wearing tennis shorts and a tank top, Melian looked more like she should be out for a run instead of serenely browsing the fantasy shelves of the bookstore. And judging by some of the stares she was getting, there were a few patrons clearly confused by the presence of a tiny, attractive female who showed clear interest in Conan the Barbarian.

Snorting a little to herself, she briefly pondered calling them out before deciding against it. She liked this particular bookstore. She'd really prefer not being kicked out for causing a disturbance.

Even if a few of the people around deserved having a book shoved up their nose.

Black hair was swooped to one side, hanging off her shoulder in a messy sort of braid whilst decorated with small beads. She had on some of her down time clothes, a flowing skirt with a tank top on but a larger shirt over it to cover herself. It was all completed with a pair of black wedges that were completely plain. She didn't believe in standing out too much, really. Yuki was going to her favorite book store and honestly didn't want to be distracted by people trying to hit on her or ask her dumb questions.

Pushing the door open and listening to the bell chime, the woman strolled along the shelves, glancing at a few of the patrons and then blinked at a shock of silver hair. It wasn't a common color, at least that she saw, completely different of her own. Glancing at the isle the girl was in, Yuki just arched a brow and made a thoughtful noise before going to the journaling section.

Time for a new journal. She went through the few she'd bought three months ago. One of them she didn't like because the paper had the wrong texture. She took journaling very, very seriously. Even so, she thumbed over a few of the ones on display and frowned. "Not what they used to be."

Books selected, Melian began to make her way to the rows of magazines, wanting to see if the newest issues of Renaissance was in. And, as the magazines were quite close to where the journals were kept, it was no surprise that she heard a dark-haired girl talking to herself as she passed by. Pausing curiously, she tilted her head and tried to put the words into some sort of context.

"Sorry," she finally said, giving up on guesswork. "What is not what they used to be?"

Maybe it was rude to ask, but she wanted to know. And if this other chick didn't like it, then she shouldn't have been muttering aloud in the first place.

Dark eyes focused on the voice that pulled her from her own world and Yuki blinked for a minute, confused. Then remembering what she said, the Japanese girl waved her hand lightly. "...The journal quality.. The pages used to be finer and lighter. Now they're kind of chunky and clumsily thrown together..." God she sounded like a giant dork when explaining herself, and yet, it was the truth. Yet she motioned uselessly to the journal section. A few years ago she could find good quality journals to write in here. Leather bound, thin, textured paper that picked up pencil well. This stuff looked like it was meant for cheap pens or to be used as scrap paper.

Yuki looked Melian over, seeing if she knew her from anywhere, but the face didn't register a name. "If I've disrupted you, I'm sorry. I didn't realize I'd said it aloud." Well, if she wasn't feeling lame then, she was now.

Glancing at the journals, then quickly back to the other girl's face, Melian had to admit that she was a little impressed. She'd never bothered to question a journal's quality when she'd needed one. She simply had picked one with a design she liked and that was that.

"H-uh. I'll have to keep that in mind. Never thought much about it before."

The slight, silver haired girl paused as if considering something before thrusting her hand out. No point in being rude, after all.

"You weren't disrupting anything. And I'm glad to know that you weren't talking to people that only you can see. I'm Melian."

"..I'm... more picky than most about what kind of journal I write in. ..Then again, I haven't been to this store in years. I'm surprised it's still here." Yuki took a breath and pushed a hand through her bangs before Melian introduced herself. "Yuki. ...and I'm sorry, but people only I can see?" Was that common? It made one of her brows arch and a look of utter confusion appear on her usually stoic face. That was a bit out of the blue.

"Does this sort of thing happen to you often? I mean people talking to invisible people?"

Oh, she took that jibe seriously. Seriously? Maintaining a straight face with some difficulty, Malian shook her head and smiled a bit.

"Sorry, in my experience, most people talking to themselves tend to be a little crazy. Haven't you seen the dude on Main who has whole screaming arguments with himself? Poor ******** is schizo."

Personally, she thought her way of phrasing had been a lot nicer than, 'Glad you aren't completely bugshit', but hey.

Instead of dwelling, she swifted the topic back to less potentially volatile grounds.

"Eh, this place'll never close. It does a pretty steady business. And if the journals suck that much, why not go complain to the owner? He's pretty good about listening to his customers."

"I... haven't seen him, I can honestly say." Yuki made a note to avoid Main whenever possible, which ...was honestly going to be hard. It was Main Street after all. Everyone had to go down that street one way or another. Maybe she'd just avoid walking down Main Street. That seemed like a more logical way of avoiding things like that.

Still, Yuki clicked her tongue and hummed. "I might suggest better quality brands.. But.. I wouldn't say I was complaining."

Did she seem like the kind to complain?

Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, Melian wondered how this chick had managed to last as long as she had if she was so literal about everything.

"Turn of phrase," she said smoothly. "Complaints, suggestions, he'll listen to 'em all. Probably why this place will never close. Dude learned the noble art of pleasing everyone."

She paused a moment to consider before smirking ever so slightly in amusement.

"So enlighten me. What are the better brands you mentioned."

Yuki was a literal person and it didn't translate too well most of the time. Oh well. She watched the other and then nodded as the other continued to explain. Interesting. She'd definitely have to voice her concerns and suggestions. The Japanese woman tapped a hand over her own arm before thinking.

"Well, you'll find better online, honestly. Typically the higher priced, the better the quality, as with most things worth having." This whole interaction made Yuki on edge and really unsure if she was actually doing this whole 'trying to make friends' thing right. Probably not. Ugh. It was frustrating. She rubbed her arm a bit before giving a tiny frown.

Nodding, Melian had half expected such an answer. Not that she cared one way or another about journal quality as she rarely used them, but it was interesting to hear a true devotee's opinions.

Smirking a little, she couldn't help but gently needle the other girl who was making her discomfort so very plain.

"Be careful flinging that particular argument around. You'll cal down the hordes who think the best things are free or close to it. I doubt you want to be surrounded by well-meaning hipsters and flower children."

Really, this was far more entertaining that she could have ever expected when she'd begun this conversation.

No, she wouldn't want that. Yuki sighed and let her lips go thin before she nodded slowly. "Alright. You have a point." Slowly Yuki glanced at her phone after pulling it out and then checked the time. She was going to run late for her appointment if she stayed too much later.

"Well.. I'm sorry, but I have to go. I've got an appointment. Potential job." Honestly the Japanese girl had expected to be out of here by now, but the conversation was so interesting that walking away seemed like it'd be a bad thing. However, it still felt like a bad thing. This other girl was interesting, her opinions and things, the questions she asked were very smart. Not to mention the ribbing that happened. It was gentle.

Relenting a little, Melian glanced down at her own watch and blinked. Where had the time gone? She had places of her own to be. Smiling again, she nodded at Yuki and made a shoo-ing motion with her hands.

"I think we both lost track of time. And as I've no desire to end up being the cause of anyone losing out on a job, you need to get. If we run into each other again, you can always tell me how the interview went. Good luck to you!"

With a final nod, Melian took a step around the other girl and gathered up the things she'd come in for. She had just time enough to make it to her own engagements as long as she wasn't long in paying for her things and if she ran like hell.
