'Baster's a loud, sass-powered person that doesn't know when to keep his lips tied. He'll point out the fact that you look terrible, make a big thing out of it, and act like you're a total jerk when you complain about what he's said. To him, he's giving you an alert to what he feels might be wrong with you, and thinks that any rebuttal from you is just you providing further evidence to back up his claim.

For example, If you're having a bad day, he'll focus on that, tell everyone to be sensitive towards you and make a fuss about it until you may very well snap, which will only make him think you're cranky, furthering his fussing. It's a never-ending cycle of "HEY YOU LOOK LIKE HELL! LOOK, GUYS, SHE LOOKS LIKE HELL! WHY ARE YOU YELLING? YOU MUST BE ANGRY, WHICH IS WHY YOU LOOK LIKE HELL! LOOK! I'M RIGHT!"

'Baster's eyes are far bigger than his stomach, reason, and body strength, and he refuses to acknowledge it. Pastries, especially waffles, are worth his weight in gold, and if he wants every topping known to man on top of his twelve stack, he's going to have every topping known to man, even if he has to get a new belt for the sixteenth time in a year. Aside from foods, material goods often catch him in this same issue, where the shiny must be acquired and in bulk at the very second he sees it. If he sees it, likes it, and can purchase more than one, you can bet he'll be taking twenty.

If you can make bodily noises with your armpits, Alabaster will enjoy your company far more than a mature person who won't do such hilarious things with their body. Stupid little things amuse and entrap Alabaster so easily, he's almost like a toddler. Can you speak in a funny accent? Do you like to roll down hills? Are you the type of person to belch obnoxiously and laugh about how funny it sounded? If you can do any of those things and more, you'll make a fast friend in Alabaster.

One of the most prominent things to note about Alabaster is that he doesn't understand the animosity between the races regarding their differences. Are you a good person? Can you communicate clearly, treat others with respect and dignity, and mind your damn business if need be? If so, you meet the very basic criteria for Alabaster to like you. If you can be funny, friendly, or helpful on top of that, congratulations, you get a bonus! 'Baster doesn't care if you're of his own race or from any of the other races, the only way he's ever going to hate you is if you're a total jerk or try to kill him. Racists fall into the "I don't talk to you" category, but if they were to ever decide to stop being racist, then he'd consider being their friend.

It's safe to say that he loves and appreciates everyone until they become jerks, try to kill him, or reveal themselves to be racists. Equality in friendship and equality in hatred.

Alabaster's someone you can rely on to be there when you need him and to get his work done when told and done the right way the first time. He doesn't mess around when he's given a task, and though he might grumble or whine if he doesn't enjoy the particular task at first, he'll push his way through it to get the satisfaction of actually getting the task done. He may not enjoy what he has to do, but that doesn't mean he's going to run away from his obligations.

This is the same for his obligations to his friends. If you ask him for help, you will get that help, no matter what you need done. Do you need help building something? He has a hammer for that. Can't find your muse or your inspiration? He'll dance, sing, and even model for you. He feels fulfilled as a person when he helps one of his friends out when they need him, and he never asks for anything in return. Just do your best with the help he's given and continue being awesome.

Alabaster prefers to look on the bright side of life rather than focus on the negative side. So what if he lost his favorite watch? He can buy a new one. Who cares if it's raining? There are puddles to splash in! There is always something for him to find within the bleakest of situations, and finding hope along with it is just as simple. If he holds tightly to his beliefs and to his friends, he can make it through the worst and make it right back to the best, even when all seems lost to the rest of the world. He'll make it, he knows he will, and believing anything other than that is just plain stupid.

Alabaster loves his friends and holds a great sense of pride in them. He praises them when they finally finish a task they had worked so hard at, offers to throw parties in their honor, and gathers them together for meetings of all sorts. He wants all of his buddies to know that he appreciates them all equally as individuals and together as a group, and visits with them separately as often as he can. When he places his arm around your shoulder and gives you a squeeze, it means that you're considered a very close part of his circle and that he really enjoys your company.

This can translate to a leaderly aspect, but only if the situation calls for it. He is often in the center of his group, pulling them all together with invisible strings, and keeping all of the lines of communication open and healthy. Having a system of friends is very important to him, and if any one of them should slip up or fall on bad times, he makes sure all of the others know to swoop in and help cheer that person up.

❧ History:

Alabaster's parents weren't made for one another, though they really tried to make it seem as though they were. A night of drinking and dancing led to a scramble to get married before people thought they were having a child out of wedlock. A match made in an impulsive heaven.

He grew up easy and happily, just like all of the other kids on his side of the street. His father traded and traveled, his mother stayed home and gave him chores to do, nothing much to complain about except for the typical childhood temper tantrum. He was given three siblings to look after, a younger pair of twin boys who occasionally drive him crazy and a baby sister who he couldn't picture his life without, as well as a strange uncle who decided that moving in would be more than appropriate after he lost his house. Yeah, a full house, but a nice house none the less.

However, his simple world was pried open one afternoon when a pair of strange beings appeared on his block. Alabaster, being a naive child, gazed upon these eyeless people with awe and curiosity as they were led away from a home by rather official looking people. Naturally, he followed, and chatted briefly with them. They were Oblivionites, another race of this world, and they weren't supposed to be in his town because they weren't of his race. This idea was confusing for Alabaster to understand, one of the pair had been a child just his size, what was so different? She was small, he was small, why couldn't she stay and play? What made things worse was the screeching his mother made when she found him talking to them, and how he wasn't allowed to leave the house for a week afterwards... Why?

Gradually, he met the other races, and was given an equal amount of punishment if his mother caught him. He came to understand, overtime, the idea of racism, and found it within himself to dislike his mother for having it. She was backward, the other races were just like them! They had lives, rules, and ideals, just like they did! But, no matter how much he tried, his mother would stick to her guns. The other races were terrible, ugly things, and Hybrids were even worse, and Alabaster was never to speak with any of them ever again.

His father, however, agreed with his son and cultivated his love for the other races. He offered to tell him tales and legends from his times in trade, to fuel his curiosity and keep him interested. Alabaster's accepting nature thrived with his father's stories and help, against his mother's every wish. His parents began to fight and scream, often taking blows to each other until they could no longer stand. The fighting was terrifying for Alabaster and his siblings, but keeping ever on the bright side, he knew that, someday, it would have to end.

It took her years to pack her things, in Alabaster's opinion, but the day that his mother left the house for good was the day he was finally able to go outside without fear of her eyes glowering down upon him. Now he could freely speak to whomever he wanted and make friends with whomever he wanted, and no one would be there to hold him back.

About the parents:

Alyce and Alistair, Alabaster's parents, met during a celebration held at a tavern. It was to commemorate a safe return from a trip abroad and drinks were being served as if they were water. Alistair was an accomplished tradesman, dealing with gems and fabrics mostly, and Alyce was the daughter of his best client, a famous tailor. Both of them were known for their competence in their work and being dependable, but upon that night among all the excitement and free drinks, a wild rush of impulse would set them on a course that would bind their lives together.

Neither were particularly thrilled about what they had done, once they woke up the next morning, but were far more terrified when Alyce found out she was pregnant. Quickly, they brainstormed an elaborate solution to the incoming social problem, they would pretend that they had always been lovers and were getting married. That way, in the eyes of the town, the baby looked planned, when in fact, he certainly wasn't. Everything went as they had hoped, despite holding almost romantic love for one another, and moved in to their new home just before Alabaster was due to arrive.

The couple tried their best to grow on each other and deal with the arrangement that they had made, and made themselves look as regular as possible. They had three more children, a set of identical twins and a beautiful baby girl, attended parties together, held hands in public, and hoped that no one could see through their ruse. Behind the scenes they would fight, sometimes physically, and stomp around while the children watched on in horror, and nothing they ever fought about seemed to resolve. Topics on racism, moving towns, getting new jobs, among other things were screamed about until their throats were sore and their arms were tired.

It took years and years of fighting for one of them to snap, and much to Alabaster's relief, it was Alyce. She was fed up with Alistair's beliefs on equality and tolerance, and wanted nothing more to do with the lie that they had tried so hard to keep. She moved back to her father's home and then to her mother's, before cutting off all contact with her family, citing "insanity" as a reason for leaving. Alistair, on the other hand, has finally found his sanity and can come home to his children and brother instead of a toxic relationship that never should have happened in the first place. He stayed for his children, and he couldn't be any happier with Alyce out of his life.

Side note on the Oblivionite encounter:

The pair of Oblivionites he met weren't simply traveling through the town, they were a father/daughter pair that had been working in a neighbor's store. They had managed to stay out of public view, working behind the scenes with crates and other equipment, but had ultimately been caught and brought to the attention of a local authority. What Alabaster had seen was the pair being led away from the town and essentially cast out to, presumably, go back to where they had come from. He didn't know why they were there or why they were being led away, though, and thought it would be fine to approach them. He didn't see a difference in the daughter, in relation to himself, and if he had been allowed, would have asked her to stay and play. But, because they were being cast out of the town, and because of his mother's over the top reaction, he wasn't able to. Of course, had he known at that young age that those people weren't supposed to be there and had been introduced to the idea of racism sooner, he might have understood why it was all happening. He was only a small child, free from all ideas of inequality, and thought nothing ill of them.

☽ Post color: #480607
☽ Brief bio:

Alistair's fraternal twin brother who moved in with the family back when Alabaster was small. He's an odd, narcoleptic person who spends most of his time on the couch or wandering the markets for deals on snack foods. Alabaster loves him just as much as his father, really, though he can be a pain in the behind to wake up in the morning, or the afternoon, or any time of day to be honest.

?! Name: Sebastian Lindenburgh
?! Age: 9
?! Gender: Male
?! Post color: #E33638
?! Brief bio:

Sebbers is Alabaster's younger brother, one of a set of twins that were born when he was about six years old. Sebastian constantly borrows Alabaster's things without asking him, which makes the pack rat of a boy very unhappy. A favorite thing to steal? His brother's prized plaid jacket.

He's known as polite and composed, though he can become immersed in a heated debate if necessary. However, he also seems to harbor a few secrets and often leaves his house unattended for hours on end with no indication to where he might have gone.

Everything that shouldn't be happening in the house is almost certainly because of Seth, Sebastian's twin brother. Paint on the ceiling, food all over the floor, tables flipped upside down, you name it, Seth's probably done it.

❀ Brief bio:

Finally, the lone lady of the house is Alabaster's baby sister, Sarah. She's around six or seven years old right now, just old enough to know how to use those big ruby eyes to her advantage, and boy, does she use them well! She's got her big brothers tending to her every whim and need like butlers! Pretty commandeering for someone of such a small size!
