Laine yawned as she padded back to the bedroom. Night terrors at four int he morning were still one thing he was overly sensitive too. There was no difference if it was her toddler, or one of the triplets. Playing mom was something she was always doing, both on and off the clock. It seemed like she was instilling that same habit into her son Bray, who had come in to check on the baby himself.

He was his fathers son alright. They were both overly affectionate over the baby.

The white haired mother sighed as she flopped, face first onto the bed. Maybe she could get another few hours in before the kids woke them both up at seven-thirty. She turned her head, glancing at the sleeping mass of muscle that dominated the other half of the bed. It always amused her just how fast he could fall asleep sometimes, especially when the man was stressed. Five years later and he still hadn't failed to surprise her with his quirks. The mother of three yawned as she wriggledd closer, brushing his bangs out of his face. Laine leaned over, pressing a kiss to his forehead before curling back up under the covers.

Oh, Kor stressed out easily now-a-days. It wasn't the kids, being a father came so naturally to him. He'd loved kids since he was a teenager. He liked playing with them, talking with them, teaching them things... He liked how utterly innocent they were, wanted them to stay kids, even in a war like this. A war they were unaware of.

Lately, however, Kor seemed to just have nightmare after nightmare. Tonight was no different. As she curled against him, she'd feel him jerk and twitch. The hand that was mutilated by a senshi twitched, remaining fingers curling and uncurling as if he was trying to make fist and swing. It was always the same. A faceless Senshi had jumped when he was aiming a punch, and then in a blur of motion and pain, his fingers whizzed by his head. He still wasn't sure how he lost them, just that they did. The wedding ring winking in the dim lighting as blood poured, splattering his face, his uniform.

In his dream Kor screamed, a blood curdling scream as he dropped to his knees, holding his injured hand to his chest, tears pouring his eyes. Outwardly he opened his mouth and let out a noiseless yell, tears falling, drenched in sweat. He was tossing and turning now as blind rage overtook him in his dreams.

At first, Laine just sleepily threw an arm around this waist and murmured things gently against him where she was curled up. Sometimes it was enough to ebb the storm of imagines in his head. However, when he began to frantically twist, turn and thrash about did she finally jerk back to reality. "Kor?" She called, rubbing at her eyes as she waited for them to adjust once again.

"Kor." She called again, sitting up and brushing his sweaty hair back. "Shh hun. It's okay. It's just a dream. Wake up.." Laine continued to make soft noises, and actions such as brushing her fingers against his cheek. She then reached over and gently took his hand, giving it a light squeeze. "Wake up. I'm right here." With her free hand, the white haired woman tugged the blankets back and off him completely before he got tangled in them and hoping that it would cool the man down. "Shhh.. Don't cry." Laine wiped at the tear stains on the mans cheek."

This wasn't how things was supposed to be done. It wasn't how his life was supposed to have gone. Laine and the kids, yes, but being part of the Negaverse? Losing limbs and always fretting that your wife was going to go off on a mission by herself and get killed? That's not how a husband imagined himself.

Regret filled him as that squeeze tore him from his nightmares but the breeze got him awake. He shivered and sat up almost instantly, reaching out for Laine without even opening his eyes. He dragged her between his legs and just held the small woman to his chest, face pressed against that snow white hair. He wasn't going to talk about it. Kor didn't like talking about what happened that day, didn't like talking about what his nightmares were about, or his biggest fears because it upset him even further and the kids could pick up on how off he was. Honestly it was no wonder he bottled it all in and had nightmares.

The tears didn't stop flowing as he held her there, just needing to feel her, needing the reassurance that she was alive and well. He took shuddering breaths as he tried to calm himself down, but every time his eyes opened, he saw that hand of his and it just made him angry and the tears came again for a different reason.

When he sat up, Laine moved to meet him half way, wrapping herself around him as he did to her. "Shh..." She murmured, hand slipping under his hair to gently rub at the back of his neck before slowly sliding down his back. "It's okay..." Gently she nudged him to lay back down, the hand on his back only disappearing long enough to slowly guide him back against the sheets.

Leaning over him, her hands once again worked to brush the tears from his face as her hair fell over her shoulders, creating a wall of white that would only help him focus on her when he finally opened his eyes.

Only her. Nothing else.

"Easy does it... It's okay. Everything's okay." She promised lightly, one hand moving to rest on his chest when she was done whipping away the tears. "Kor... You're alright baby." Her other hand reached over and grabbed his hand and gave it a soft squeeze as she brought to and held it against her chest.

He just swallowed as she calmed him down, wanting to yank that hand away from her. She shouldn't have to touch it. She shouldn't have to look at it. It shouldn't have happened. His face was pressed against her skin and he breathed in her scent. Laine was his rock. At one point he'd been hers and then he became a Lieutenant and his world shifted and turned up side down.

Suddenly he was lying to his kids, having panic attacks, flash backs... This isn't how his life with Laine was supposed to go. They were supposed to have kids, run the shop together, see their kids go into college and have kids of their own. They were supposed to buy cars, and argue and make up. Pay bills, struggle with money. That was life. This wasn't it. Sometimes Kor regretted being woken up as a Lieutenant. It made things hard. Made things awkward. "....Do you .. Do you look at being a senshi and just... look at your life and wonder why me? Why ...did I get chosen for this? Just... Why?"

Kor wanted a normal life. He wanted that back. It was too late, however. He had to protect his children, had to keep up the fight. He had to protect Laine and his friends and everything he worked to build now.

Laine stretched out on top of him, humming a little as she did. "I have at times... Yeah." Over the years, Kor had come to learn the true meaning of the burn on her wrist. "There have been plenty of times where I've thought about just, breaking my pen and not henshining up. Pretending that the other side of me never existed, and that anything that had happened, didn't.

"But I was told, a long time ago, that I had to believe in myself. And that's what I try to do everyday. I can't just not power up. I may not like it at times, but I've got too much to lose by not doing so." Again she gave his hand a small squeeze. "Things happen in this line of work that we don't like, and that's inevitable hun. It's all part of life. We have to take the bad along with the good. We've all got our scars, but mental and physical." Some more worse then others. "We have to learn from the scars, as weird as that may sound."

"I wonder why all the time love. Why things can't be normal. But then again, I've never done things the normal way have I? I'd be lying to myself if I just pretended like Azurite wasn't real, or if she never existed. Azurite is me. There are times when I'll come home and I'll hate myself for what I've done. But, I don't think I'd trade that side of me for anything. I've made so many friends, made so many connections because of Azurite. My life would be completely different, but that doesn't mean it would be better. If I wasn't Azurite, I wouldn't have met you."

His chest hurt.

He just held his wife tighter to him, wrapping both arms around her so she didn't have to touch his hand anymore. Laine... Azurite.. His beautiful wife had struggled the way he is now. Was it common? The larger of the two just buried his face into her hair and focused on her. She was here. Soft. Together. The mother of his children, adopted and birthed. They were together.

Kor was struggling to focus on the good in his life because his mind kept thinking of the bad. Kept wandering that way every night, every time he looked at himself. His uninjured hand stroked the back of one of her thighs as he swallowed thickly again. The sound was deafening in his own ears in the quiet of their home. The children were asleep, safe in their beds. Laine and Kor both would know if someone was in their home. "....Sorry," was all he managed to choke out. He didn't know what else to say to her. He was sorry he asked those questions, sorry he got injured. Sorry he had nightmares. He had a lot of apologizing to do.

"You don't need to apologize sweet heart. It happens to all of us. Some handle it better then others. You hand doesn't mean I love you any less. If anything it means I love you more because you're still here. I didn't lose you that night. Every time you come home, I love you more then I did when you left. We all have wounds we wish we didn't." Laine herself had gained quite a few scars over the years, some far more gruesome then others.

"I have nightmares just like you do. We're gonna get through this, together. I promise you. So you don't have to apologize for anything alright?"

Kor just ached at her words, in a good way. He really got lucky with Laine. His lips pressed to her shoulder and he just sniffled, fighting back more tears for a different reason. Slowly he settled back down on the bed, his brows knitting as he used her chest as a pillow. He had to get better about handling things properly. His hands caressed down her sides, over her hips and back up in a way that meant he was trying not to think and just feel. Something that, now-a-days, didn't come as easily as it used to when he was younger.

"..I love you," he whispered instead of apologizing again. She was right. He didn't need to apologize, it just felt like he did.

When did he get so soft? Street life should have made him harder, but he hadn't been on the streets since his late teens. Oh well. He was who he was. "Let's... just try to sleep again."

"Easy does it now.." She cooed, her fingers running through his hair. Laine sighed quietly and smiled when she felt him slowly begin to relax and unwind. "I love you too.. All of you. Scars or wounds won't change that. Remember, they make me love you more." It was odd logic, but she knew it would work on him. Sleep sounded like an amazing concept. Especially if the kids would keep up with their habits of crawling into their bed. Then she grinned, leaning up to give him a kiss.

"...Told you you were fluffy."

"Shut up." This was said tiredly without any heat or real meaning behind it. She always called him fluffy, since the day he took her to Build-a-Bear. He got embarrassed every time and answered the same way every time. Sighing slowly, Kor just relaxed and tried to drift off.

Right now, as much as he loved his wife and kids, being awake wasn't a good option. Maybe he could sleep off this funk he was in. Hopefully.
