There was a definite swagger in Mia's walk tonight. For the first time in far too long, she was back in a place she remembered, seeing things that struck a chord in her and gave her a warm, buzzing feeling of excitement in her chest. She knew this street... knew the flickering light of the bar sign over her head... knew the smell and the sound and ******** it was good to remember something for once.

Hands braced on hips wrapped in tight, faded jeans, the tall woman stalked to the door of the bar and tugged the heavy wood open, holding it for the man behind her.

"I used to come here to pick up chicks." She said with a grin at him, leaning back on the door in her black tank top. "They mix the drinks on the alcoholic side... I remember the bartender chick had a thing for me, and a really great rack." Teeth nipped at her lower lip as Mia glanced around the interior, only slightly disappointed that woman wasn't here tonight. Not that she would have recognized Ariel in Mia, but she was high on nostalgia right now and anything familiar would have gotten the same sort of loving regard.

"What do you want to start with?" The dark haired woman said as she clapped Herger on his broad shoulder, releasing the door behind them. "Beer? Some shots? We could buy their bottle of tequila and see who has to eat the worm at the bottom."

Just like old times!

The price of memory involved in purification- the loss of connection and much of any knowledge of Björn's life, hadn't hit Herger very hard. Björn had enough difficulty getting things into his head to keep with dedicated repetition and exposure as the only reliable rule- so much was never familiar then even when it should have been. As Herger, the empty swaths just went hand-in-hand with what little had been there anyway. With so little time to dedicate to being a civilian, there wasn't worth in mourning that nothing was familiar in his life on that front- his experience in the Negaverse, the military training and years of field experience were what was needed for the Resistance. The war needed Nærøyfjord, not Herger, in most cases.

But tonight was lucky, novel for smiles and jocularity and Mia's pleasant company. There was nothing so infectious as someone else genuinely excited about something and letting others partake in that. "You mean mine are not big enough to satisfy you?"

He palmed his own pecs, giggling the un-tensed muscle a half-second before winking at her as he let go. "I am sure that there are nicer ones here. Wasn't there some rhyme about beer and liquor? "

He wasn't sure which way it went, and which way supposedly made a person sick. "Are we drinking for calories or to get hammered? I'd like at least a couple stouts....they're like meals. Kinda. Other than that, whatever you like. Do you like tequila? It has worms in it?"

Was that good or bad?

Mia snorted at the joke, unable to help a snicker at the sight of Herger palming his chest.

"Aw, baby, don't be like that..." She cooed as she wrapped herself around his arm, coyly running a forefinger down his chest. "Yours are plenty big enough... I especially like how they flex when you're got all your weight on your arms." White teeth nipped at full lips at that thought before the tall woman released his arm and cupped her hands in front of her, studying the invisible weights she held.

"There is just something about lady bits... so soft and warm you just want to bury your face in them. UNF." Mia laughed as she dropped hands to her hips and tossed her head to settle the swath of black hair that brushed her lower back, swaggering again as she led the way to the bar. "The rhyme is 'Beer before liquor, never been sicker; Liquor before beer, you're in the clear!'; liquor, sicker, beer, clear... which means if you're drinking stout then we should get some good shots into you before hand... unless you're planning on playing sober cab, because I plan on getting good and hammered."

Pushing her way between patrons and ignoring the appreciative stares she got, the dark-haired woman leaned over the bar to give the guy behind it a good view down her shirt and called him over with a crooked finger.

"Two shots of tequila, neat." She said, turning back to address her companion again. "Tequila is good, as far as straight up alcohol goes. You can get nicely drunk on it. I guess they don't sell it with worms in it any more, but I think they did at one point, sparking the drinking game where whomever gets the last shot has to eat the worm at the bottom... or something like that. Its a drunk game, you have to be drunk for it to make sense."

"I can't disagree." He had no problems appreciating all the sizes of ladies, though, not just the larger, heavier variety that Mia's pantomime picked out for consideration. "You should go seagull watching if those are your favorite kind."

It was good Mia knew the rhyme because he'd never have remembered it. Maybe that was something that she'd made use of in Negaverse uniform as much as civilian life, so it had stuck with her. She intends to get hammered....

"You could just have asked back at home- I have a hammer. " It was a little crude, but Mia felt more like a peer, a fellow soldier, than a great pillared and marble statue of perfection. She was flawed, as he was, and enjoyed fun and stupid jokes. It felt a little more free of air to say at least some of the things he thought that usually just were kept there for fear of offending someone he cherished. Mia would get it. Mia weighed imaginary lady bits, too. "Drunk games don't make more sense when you're drunk. It just doesn't matter, really. What is the difference of neat?"

He never made specifics when he ordered things, and mostly no one ever asked him- too big to question, maybe.

Mia's mind had a bit of a stumble over the correlation between seagulls and breasts, but she chose to assume 'seagull watching' was some new euphemism for looking down shirts or something.

"I don't have a favorite kind, really..." She said as she leaned back on her elbows, unperturbed that this conversation seemed content to stay firmly on boob talk. She liked them, she had some herself, this talk was perfectly normal as far as she was concerned. "I like small ones too. They're so cute and perky when they're little more than a mouthful. I do not discriminate based on cup size, I am a lover of all things breast related."

Really, talk like this was simply par for the course with Mia. She hardly cared if she offended someone... She was who she was and those who associated themselves with her knew what they were getting into, or they left. She saw no reason to censor herself for anyone.

An eye roll accompanied the hammer offer. "I know you do, its very big and impressive. Its not, however, the type of hammer I want right now. I would prefer a little fun before the splitting headache, thankyouverymuch." She felt like talking about his hammer should be automatic innuendo, but she restrained herself admirably well, she thought. When the shots arrived, Mia dug into her back pocket for the cash to pay and slid it onto the bar top as she took the shots and offered one to Herger.

"'Neat' means without anything." She said as she lifted the shot glass to show him. "People usually drink Tequila with salt and lime, but if its a good brand, you don't need those to cover up the flavor. Its kind of fun to do though, so if you want we can pull out the salt and lime later and do some body shots." Winking, Mia lifted the shot in the air, toasting her partner.

"Cheers." She said before she tossed the alcohol back, putting the shot glass neatly upside down on the counter after.

He didn't offer a retort approaching the inneundo of a hammer and his own gender either, since it seemed Mia wasn't into that sort of thing either. He did cheerfully toast her with a smiling, "To your pleasure."
He took the shot, throwing it back with no trouble in the method one followed for drinking the small dollop of liquid.

But AUGHGHGHGH
It tasted like smokey wood mixed with a second flavour- the back of throat smell/taste that coated at the first moments of opening a new can of wet catfood to dish for a Mauvian. Like Friskies pate stink. Herger coughed, the sound echoing through his ribs and wide throat. "What is it made of?"

He set the tine glass back on the counter, "I can get the next round. You like the flavour of it?...you can drink a bottle of it?"

Maybe people should not make alcohol of worms. Just eating live worms might be better. It is as bad as whiskey..why drink anything that tastes bad or like a campfire.

The wince Mia had given on downing her own alcohol was that of a seasoned veteran. From that lofty stand point, watching Herger take the shot and then start coughing struck her as hilariously funny. This massive man, coughing over a shot of strong alcohol? A snort turned into full-throated laughter as the black-haired woman reached to slap his shoulder in support.

"After a couple of shots you don't taste it any more, trust me, and you get really drunk. Its made out of agave, or at least the good stuff is. If you want to get the next one, then order whatever you want. I can drink anything you can drink." Mia said, assured that fact was true. She could remember drinking herself stumbling more than once, both past and present. She might not have the sheer volume of her friend, but she had experience on her side and was interested to see which of them tapped out first.

"I can't drink a whole bottle of Tequila by myself..." The woman said as she shifted away from the bar and gave him room to order if he pleased. "Not even I have enough constitution for something like that. I guess I haven't tried though... I used to stop before I got completely trashed because there was usually a lady under my arm I was taking home and while women perform better in bed drunk than men do, you can't do anything if you fall over half way there."

It was embarrassing when that happened... No, no, Imgood... I c'n still go... h'ld on... I'f ta go throw up... Yeah... not conducive to happy mattress times.

He bore the laugh without complaint or even really 'bearing'. People coughing when drinking was generally funny, whatever the reason behind it. "It is not a taste I will forget, if I need to get drunk fast."

He shifted to speak to the bartender, pushing over money, before answering Mia's commentary as she allowed for the room ," Absolut BROOKLYN, Absolut BOSTON if you have them? Two each."

"I can drink a whole bottle, or more than one...it works through really fast with my metabolism. It is not so good for staying drunk if that was my hope. It takes a lot for a long time to stay drunk. " There were at least one or two occasions, powered, that he could remember the dregs of after a lot of vodka and a lot of coffee liquor while he'd been in uniform and in the straights of his choice to leave the Negaverse. It wasn't the best set of memories, nor the proudest way (if time honored by many) to handle the pressure and pain of stress.

Getting 'buzzed' was a lot simpler- the metabolism worked against him that way, taking the alcohol quickly in as much as quickly out. The loss of more than fifty pounds didn't help his cause either. I wonder if Mia is like a camel and she can store it in the pair...it is probably too rude to ask. I need to remember that throughout the night.

"I don't think I could find my way home drunk....have you tried since 'moving' ?" Since home from the bar was a different path that maybe the one she remembered from before, with a different life and a different name. Though we should stop before completely trashed, anyway even if you do. "

The shots prepared again, he held out one of the Bostons to her, "Is that a challenge, that women perform better than men?"

"Skål~*"

From Tequila to Vodka... Mia was not going to complain. As long as it had a high enough proof, she was happy, and if he preferred the taste, then that was good too.

"I'm like a homing pigeon..." Mia said as she accepted the shot, her eyebrows lifting as she studied the alcohol dubiously. "I have this compass in my head that points me in the direction of my bed..." It smelled strongly of tea and as someone who did not ascribe to that strange side of the caffeinated world, she was not sure she was going to like this much... but she had said she could drink anything he could, so there was no refusing. At least it was a shot, so one and done...

"Of course its a challenge." The tall woman said as her lips pulled wide in a grin and she knocked the shot back quickly, trying to hold her breath as she took it. The tea assaulted her tongue and she smacked her lips in distaste as she put the shot glass down. "You can challenge everything I say and I'll be happy to put my money where my... mouth is. But, keep in mind..." She leaned over with her elbow on the bar and held up her forefinger, giving him a warm, sexy grin.

"Women have an advantage because we don't need to get it up." Mia teased as she let her finger droop over sadly. A laugh broke from her then and she reached to steal one of the BROOKLYNs, the scent of apples and ginger making her eyes widen in appreciation. The third shot joined the first two in short order, but this one left her licking her lips in delight. A little sweet, a little spicy... normally Mia hated sweet things, but the heat of the ginger balanced it nicely. It gave her something of an idea though and this time it was her money that smacked the counter and in short order, they had a pair of Fireballs ready and waiting.

Time to spice things up. She thought irreverently.

"I heard it was rude to call a woman a 'bird', but if you will call yourself a pigeon-" he shrugged with a smile. It seemed it was Mia's turn to make faces with a shot. Considering the proof on most of the shots, it must be a taste disagreement rather than having any real difficulty with drink. They were both more or less pro at the technique. Her nose was cute when it scrunched with distaste.

He took his first shot, listening to her further boasts on the inability of men to perform for a lover's pleasure inebriated with an amused half smile. He left it at no comment for a moment as the BROOKLYNs went down and Mia turned to order new shots. Once she was back, however, he held up his free hand to hers, comparing hands.

"Like men cannot use anything else? Mine's still bigger." He made a 'come' motion with his pointer as one might. "The same with kisses. It will be up to skill. It is a hard wager- is it better settled on one lucky volunteer to experience both, or two individual that are just willing to give honest ratings on a scale?"

The Fireball shot he eyed suspiciously- it looked like whiskey. Fireball was an unusual name for a whiskey, but unless it had a flavour index that went to eleven of something NOT whiskey, he was pretty sure it was going to be his turn to make faces again. But didn't everyone make a face at whiskey? That's why bar zeitgeist called it whiskey-face.

"You can call me whatever you want. 'b***h' used to be a common one." She said with a grin as she dangled the fireball between her fingers.

When Herger lifted his hand to draw her attention to the differences in size, red eyes narrowed a little and Mia stretched her fingers wide before she closed them in a blocky fist that made the tendons cord up in her wrist and the veins stand up. Batting his hand away playfully, she hauled back and punched him in the shoulder, her lip caught between her teeth.

"I've never had anyone complain about the size of my hands!" She protested. "They're usually too busy raving about my mouth. If we do this right, we should have one man and one woman and do both of them and get a grade. It'll have to be people who are completely neutral though! I don't want anyone accused of favoritism. Which probably means most of the people we know are out."

Lifting the shot at last, Mia took that with a toss of her head and coughed once as the tobasco-laced alcohol burned all the way down. Her eyes scrunched as she breathed out, but it did little to help the spice flooding her mouth. Hoo boy... hot hot HOT. Too many of those and she'd need a new tongue.

"I think I might be ready for the beer now." She managed, feeling the shots she'd taken in such quick succession go straight to her head for a wonderful buzzy feeling.

The punch was well appreciated. Herger laughed, putting down his own shot to rub the spot with his other hand. "Completely neutral and completely willing to both of us might be hard to find."

He missed her expressions and modified whiskey-face to a sudden distracted profusion of thoughts of those he knew and any hope of serving their pleasure- Did Kairatos even like men? But kneeling before those thighs was a happy thought. 'Bull' could promise a lot.
Wasn't Babylon married?
Hvergelmir, beautiful Hvergelmir... he wasn't worthy but dreams were dreams for a reason. All her shining hair pooled down her shoulders and the hollows next to her illiacs before the slight rise of stomach-

Mia said something. "Beer...ja, good for now..."

He winced, That sounded smart.
Then took his own fireball at a swallow unwisely under-prepared and was stuck with holding a hand over his mouth, not coughing or breathing, as his eyes watered and grew wider and wider and wider.

At his agreement, Mia turned to call the bartender over for two pints and she handed him more of her cash, glad she had brought so much of it. Drinking wasn't cheap. When she turned back she caught the motion as Herger took the shot she had bought and she paused to watch, wondering if he'd ever taken spicy shots before...

And damn near fell apart at his reaction. He didn't just cough and tear up... He had a hand over his mouth like he'd literally swallowed fire and Mia just couldn't help it. She snorted with laughter as she dropped her head to the forearms she had on the bar, her shoulders shaking as she pounded her fist on it.

Oh GOD this was so funny... His face, it was priceless... Worth every ******** penny of those shots.

Mia's mouth still burned, but when she raised her head it wasn't the shots that had her eyes watering. When the pints arrived she pushed one over to him, still snickering and snorting, the alcohol in her system making it impossible to stop.

"Here, here... Drink. Beer helps. Oh my god, your face..." The woman wheezed. "They're called ******** Fireballs for a reason, what did you think was in them? Jesus Christ...." Her voice rose in pitch as she fought to speak through her laughter, grabbing her own beer to try and drink some of it between snickers.

Herger couldn't muster companionable joy at her laughing, annoyance at it, or hurt. He had exactly one thought - Jä-ä-ävlar-r-r-r

EVERYTHING IS ON FIRE.

Not the usual burst-burn of high proof alcohol. No, this was a protracted, acid eating away the skin of his mouth and bleaching his bones sort of burn. Truth was, he didn't eat a lot of hot food. He didn't eat a lot of any kind of food period, and what he did usually get at the main-camp community tended to be down-home and gentle. Starving stomachs didn't do well on too much hot-spice. About as racey as he got was the occasional chili or curry that stretched a meat ration delivery beyond normal expectations.

He accepted the beer quickly, soundlessly and began slow-drinking it also without breath for the span of a good minute and a half without break. It almost helped. The cool temp of American served beers was a temporary relief, and the secondary alcohol helped a little to break the capsaicin. It came back after a few seconds though- Five percent ethanol of many beers did not work any better scientifically than cool water at neutralizing the alkaloid oil. Sad for Herger he didn't know enough science to ask for sugar, honey, or best a sugar dairy combo like some deserts. If the bar even had them. Milk at least was a mainstay of white russians.

"It is still hot- I thought maybe cinnamon? Like lots of those fake red candies. That is not cinnamon. What was that?"

It was really too much and even though Mia was still snerking at his reaction, she took pity and asked the bartender for a glass of milk. The guy took one look at Herger and shook his head with a smile, handing over the requested drink without comment.

"Here... sorry, I guess I should have warned you that it was hotter than it appeared. I like spicy food, so I forget I'm not as sensitive to it as other people." She said as she leaned back into her seat to sip her own beer. She burned, but it wasn't something she couldn't handle and the beer helped, a little. "Its cinnamon schnapps, so you got that part right, but its also got a healthy amount of Tabasco in it. Alcohol also tends to enhance spiciness, I think. I don't know how that all works."

Oh man, that laugh had been sorely needed and it left Mia riding on a high of good feelings, bobbing along on the ocean of a good buzz. "Its a good drink to ask for when you want to pick on your friends. See how many you can take before you cry Uncle. I'll stop torturing you with my hard liquor now though, we can drink your beer. I'm feeling the itch to dance now that I'm sufficiently lubed up."

And, if she remembered correctly and the sampling she'd heard since coming in was any indication, this place had decent music too. Just one of the many things you couldn't really get back at camp, not like you could here.
