The sun was well into the sky before the Fayth pair made their way to their first meeting of the day. Ballad was overjoyed at the news that he and Whistle would soon be grandparents, for Kel and his lady were expecting foals. The Faythren family was expanding, safe in their new homeland. He couldn't drop his guard just yet, but things were taking a turn for the better.

Once he was sure his mate was safe in the company of their son and his lady, Ballad bid their slowly-growing family farewell. He would see them again before the day was out, but at the moment he had a meeting to attend... With a rather old friend, truth be told.

"Well Ty... Let's see if I can find you, the way you once found me..."

Shifting his wings, Ty ambled along the river heading in the direction of his meet with Ballad. When he'd run into him for the first time all those years ago, Ty hadn't expected the relationship that had developed. The two stallions had an easy friendship, shifting from this topic to that with ease, offering each other advice, council and laughter. He hadn't seen the fayth patriarch in some time, so they had much to catch up on.

The older Alicorn knew a thing or two about growing families, his now expanding to include great grandchildren, and great nieces. He hadn't started feeling old yet, but it was obvious he too was becoming the patriarch of a large family. Not that he exactly wanted that title, what, with the poor relationship with his son, and that extensive branch of his family tree. Now that he thought about it, he had a poor relationship with the majority of his family. Yet another similarity between he and Ballad... But none of his descendants were inherently evil bent on the destruction of his good children. Chuckling, the winged stallion stopped, dipping his head to take a drink from the river. His daughter and grand children were wonderful, and he was sure his son and his family were just as wonderful, even if he himself had no knowledge of them.

Tossing the his mane, Ty forged on, following his feet. He'd bumped into Ballad once before, it was time to do it again.

Ballad was rather glad his familiar Minstrel had taken the day to flutter off and meet with other friends. Aside from one or two passing glimpses, the hummingbird hadn't had much of a chance to visit with his fellows. He was far too busy running little errands for Ballad or Whistle or watching over one of the family. While Ballad appreciated the assistance, companionship and advice of the little bird, it was nice to know Minstrel could relax too.

And he and Ty would have much to discuss, what with Kel now settled with his lady and expecting foals. It would be nice to share such bright news with him, Ty understood how much Ballad valued his family. He would certainly share in the joy of being a grandsire. It was much more pleasant to share joy than the sorrow of being estranged from one's son... Easier than dwelling on Ty's lost son or the shadow that was Aveshar. Though Ballad had seen his dark son's children, Whistle had not met them. This was different, these two Whistle could dote on to her heart's content.

Ballad forded the river at one of his usual spots, pacing into the shallows before shaking himself free of the crystal drops. He was soaked nearly up to his back, but didn't much mind. It surely was hot enough that a swim was refreshing rather than an annoyance or inconvenience.

"Early?" He murmured, eying the sun in her trip across the sky. Not by much, on time really. At the sight of the Alicorn, Ballad grinned. "Hello there, ruffian. I'm looking for a dear old friend, have you seen him?"

Following his feet, the grey stallion followed the bends in the river, lost in his own thoughts. Recently he'd mulled over many of the paths he'd taken in life, and he often wondered if he'd taken the right paths. He adored his children, even if his relationship with his only son was beyond strained. He wondered if the relationship that created them, ruined a relationship with a mare he'd loved since his foal hood. He never regretted his children, oh no, but some days he wonder how things might have been. Maybe he would discuss this with Ballad, he always seemed to have some good in site into these matters.

Ty smiled, spotting his old friend in the water as he approached. It was great to see his old friend, they had much to catch up on. And of course, poking fun at each other was just part of the game.

"Ruffian, you say? The only ruffian I see around here is you." Ty grinned, stopping at the edge of the river. "How have you been, old friend?"

Deciding it was way to hot, and he was way to old to be standing out here in the sun, the Alicorn waded into the water next to the male.

Ballad found his strides began to speed with increased impatience, until he was moving at a brisk trot toward their agreed meeting place. The grove would be shaded and cool even with the high sun, and if they talked the day away there was fresh water in the form of a nearby stream and even herbs and sweet grass growing in abundance. It was the perfect place to meet and spend a day getting lost in traded news and shared tales.

Which was why Ballad had picked it, for he had no doubt he and Tyzaeph could indeed talk the day away. Whistle seemed amused that her mate had found such a good friend in the native-born stallion, laughing as she sent Ballad off to his meeting... But they had already agreed if they were to establish a herd in this land, Tyzaeph would be the first they invited to join it. He was a good friend, a true friend.

Even if he rejected the invitation to join their herd in the future, that friendship would not change. But such thoughts were for another time, when Ballad and Whistle had indeed decided on founding a herd. For the moment they were content in gathering their clan together, in finding what wandering family members they might.... and perhaps welcoming new children to the world, if fate was kind.

'Head in the clouds.' Ballad warned himself, as Minstrel was not about to do so. Though it had seemed safe enough to leave his little compaion behind with the assignment of entertaining his lady, Ballad missed the small bird already.

After all, without Minstrel about, he had to mind his own thoughts. Which lead to wanderings of all sorts, and would make him late to meet Tyzaeph if he was not careful. 'Wake up now, Ballad... Get a move on.'

Forging up the river with a few leaps, the mist-coated stallion barely hesitated as he moved toward his chosen glade. He was willing to bet Tyzaeph would be wandering this way any moment, but he should be there just in time....

"Well now, what have we here." Ballad mused, pawing at the water in an effort to splash at the Alicorn. "A ruffian with a sense of humor, that's surprising... After all, you and I look nothing alike."

He chuckled and shook his head. "An old friend who hasn't changed much at all, at least on the outside... Thank goodness for that, or I might never find you otherwise. I find myself exceedingly grateful, for though I am well enough, I have much to speak with you about."

Snorting at the retort, the alicorn stallion gave his ground counterpart a wide smile. "Obviously we don't look anything alike... I'm far better looking."

Shifting on his feet in the water, Ty used his tail to splash water over his back and on to his wings. And maybe he put a little extra on it to get Ballad too, who knows.

Watching the stallion speak, Ty felt his immense respect for the light colored stallion grow. He was a good male, with a kind heart and strong will to lead and protect. Ty also adored his mate, who may be the kindest mare he'd ever known. Whistle had been the mare he'd gone to, along with Shara, to help with Del as a young filly. He'd known with her strained relations with her mother, she was going to need a mare in her life who loved her unconditionally. Whistle certainly fit that description. For that, he'd do just about anything for the Fayth family, and her hoped they knew that.

"We certainly do have a lot to discuss. I find I need to ask your opinion on something that has been bothering me for sometime now. My relationship with Shara is changing yet again, and I'm not sure how to handle it. Del told me she's found another stallion, and as her friend I am happy for her. My heart doesn't quite agree however."

Ballad gave his friend a sideways glance, managing to fit both doubt and amusement into his silvery gaze. The look was partially a joke and partially disbelieving, but it was all good-natured regardless. "Are you now? I'm glad you informed me of that, but I suppose then that means Whistle has been lying to me all of our lives."

He made a sorrowful, tsking sound as Tyzaeph flung water at him with the use of his tasseled tail. "I shall have to go inform her she has broken my heart... Because of course if you are correct and you are far more handsome than I, I just don't even know what to do with the rest of my life."

With a faint rear and a little too much gleeful force, he drove his front legs down into the water and sent a retaliatory splash of water toward the darker stallion. "Had about enough of your swaning, Are you done preening now? Because if you can't be serious, I'll have to just leave you here to admire your reflection in the water and talk loudly of your attributes so you can relish the sound of your own voice."

He gave another laugh, shaking his head and sending his mane to tumbling around his neck and over his withers. Whistle and he had long ago decided that Tyzaeph was a kindred spirit, a good-hearted stallion they were honored and privileged to know. That opinion hadn't changed in the length of time they had been friends, and probably never would, which was why Ballad felt so secure in joking about it. The fact that Ty was so obviously fond of his lady also warmed his heart, he knew who he could count on in a pinch to ensure that his mate would be safe.

Knowing Ty's friendship with Whistle, Ballad wouldn't even have to ask. They were practically family by this point, and that meant they'd stick together no matter what. Which was why he and Whistle were honored to step up and watch for Ty's family whenever he needed their aid. And when they had a family of their own here, maybe he'd get to return the favor.

Tyzaeph's words made his ears perk, pulled once more from the tangle of his thoughts. "Something to ask? You know my thoughts are yours, so long as they will be of service to you. And if need be, Whistle and the birds will be happy to join in. If we can help you at all, we will."

He said it gently, but with complete honesty. If Ty would forget, Ballad would be happy to remind him. They were friends, that was what friends did. Still, the news of Shara made him wince, he knew how talons could rake a heart when concerning a lady love. And this relationship had more claws than one may expect.

"I cannot blame your heart for that, though you are a good friend to be happy for her if she has found happiness." He offered gently. "Though I must say, it is probably a little early to lose hope, so I will kick you if you admit you have. Just because she has met someone, that does not mean so very much... She has known many souls, it is a side-effect of her charming singing voice and sociable nature. Some have said hello and farewell in a blink, and you remain by her side. That is worth more than most."

Laughing Ty used his tail to splash just a tad more water on his fair coated friend, before grinning devilishly. Ballad was always easy to get along with, with a easy sense of humor and wisdom beyond his years. Of course, their years were getting longer and longer, with grandchildren and great grandchildren all around. When did they get so... old?

"You know females Ballad... they fib to spare our fragile male egos. Don't hold it against your lady. She was clearly just trying to keep your from the obvious pain of my far superior genetics." Grinning, Ty ruffled the sunset colored feathers of his wings to shake the water free. "Don't worry, I got more then enough of my reflection and voice this morning. I can spare you some time now."

Tossing his head, the large Alicorn stallion sighed. He has thought about speaking with Whistle regarding this matter, but he hadn't wished to put the mare in between her friends. He'd done the same for his own daughter and Chaci, as the two mares often ran about with the beautiful phantom mare. He'd spoken briefly with Ash about the matter, but had decided against a long conversation. He supposed that this was a negative of being a part of a close knit herd, he couldn't go to those he usually did, not without upsetting them anyway.

His granddaughter had been a surprising confidant, offering a quiet ear and a kind smile. She'd told him the same thing Ballad just did, but in her own Tara-esque way. She was truly as much of an angel as her mother, and how he adored his daughter and granddaughter. His grandson well... he loved the boy just as much, though he wondered about the company he kept. Something else he had to discuss with Ballad. It appeared they were actually family now, even if just by a mating.

"Yes, you are right in many ways. I often wonder if my behavior as a young stallion put a strain on my relationship with her... I would never regret my children, but perhaps my decisions caused her more pain then I ever imagined." Ty sighed then, shaking his head. "Maybe my place with her is meant to be as it has always been... A friend. Its not a terrible fate, but that doesn't stop my heart however."
