Lex had just started his shift in the infirmary, green scarf wrapped loosely around his neck and two cups of coffee already down the hatch. His beginning of shift routine of washing his hands, gloving up, and looking at the clipboards to see who needed the most help. Same old, same old. Including the fact that a certain Ripley was hurt and taking up cot space.

The tall brunette sighed, ruffling his perfect hair and rubbing his 5 o
'clock shadow. Ripley and Lex had exchanged little words beyond "get better soon" and "you again," but he felt some sympathy for the Hunter. Always getting hurt, much like Oliver. Unfortunate, really.

He knocked on Ripley's door, then let himself in with a mild smile and kindly look. Lex knew the damage, yet still asked "What did you do this time, Mr. Crowell?"

"I fell." Ripley lied easily, his voice dry with sarcasm. The wounds suggested he had been mauled by something with very sharp claws, but sure, fell.

"Am I assigned to you or something?" He asked, as if the thought just dawned on him; he saw Lex often, perhaps too often to be coincidence. Then, he happened to look up and tilted his head, catching sight of the hair that fell into his face when he moved.

"I'll be a red head soon." He commented with a sigh, pinching a piece of blood-soaked white hair between ruined gloved fingers, rolling it lightly between thumb and forefinger. Normally he would have said nothing, but there was a small chance his vaguely talkative self was brought on by being incredibly relaxed. Drugs tended to do that.

Lex couldn't help but let a genuine smile crack through his lips, winking at the younger man. Ripley could bemoan Lex's presence till he was blue in the face (he'd look quite patriotic), but the Lifer was there to stay. It wasn't as if Lex had taken a special interest in Ripley, happenstance just so worked the circumstances to that every time Ripley was hurt, Lex was the attendee. "It seems so. Fate must think we belong together."

Alexei began to scrawl on his clipboard, checking off all the necessary boxes. The Death was certainly coherent, and seemingly not in agonizing pain. The medication was working, thank God. "I assume these stairs you fell down were clawed? I hope you at least managed to leave a dent in them." He snorted, putting the clipboard up by Ripley's head. "Ah, but the white complements your coat so well."

"Fate, huh?" The injured man lifted his head to look at Lex, though he had to pause for a moment to let his foggy brain and terrible eye sight to adjust as best as they could. "Sorry, I don't do well in relationships." He admitted, letting out an amused chuckle; he was terrible at them, which was why he wasn't in one.

"Yes, Sir." Ripley droned his reply about the stairs as sarcastically as he had given his first lie. "Not a big enough one, though." He amended, with a grumble to himself about how stupid stairs were. "Ahh, then I'll make an effort to keep it white." He decided, flashing a brief grin at Lex.

"I can't hear Wilhelm." As he admitted this, his grin faded. It was never a good thing to not hear and feel your own head mate, and Wilhelm had been silent since the shield broke; it wasn't uncommon of course, but still troubling.

"I thought the same a year ago." Lex replied in regards to relationships, gently patting the man's shoulder and using the other hand to even out his pillow. The Lifer would be damned if he didn't have a good enough bedside manner by now, and he wasn't one to lose his manners.

He shrugged noncommittally at not leaving a dent. He moved on to unfurling the Death's blanket, examining the wound. No need for excess bandaging, no more stitches necessary. Bedrest was all the man would need.

"Have you regularly been conversational?" Lex focused now on Ripley's weapon problem. A communication break down could lead to more injuries, a broken bond, death. Perhaps there was something going on in the other man's head? This was a perfect opportunity for Alexei to practice. "Any recent incidents that may have offended him?"
