There was someone in Evan's bed. It was Evan, because it was his bed.

Well, then maybe there was someone in Tuck's bed, because he was ******** certain that he was in the right room. Then again, maybe he wasn't in the right room, because it had been so ******** long since he'd last been home that he couldn't really remember what his room number was.
Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration.
Nah, it wasn't.
So the question was: was Tuck in the right room, or was Evan sleeping in Tuck's room because he'd missed him and he felt like sleeping in Tuck's bed made their bromance stronger?
Tuck was way too ******** tired to even think about it.

Tuck was most definitely not in the right room and Evan had never once considered sleeping in Tuck's room--although he did, occasionally, consider sleeping in his sister's--and even though he missed them both equally (almost equally), of the two of them, there was only one he would have crawled into bed with willingly and knowingly.
The body in bed with Evan certainly didn't feel like Gnat's--or Chel's, or Nora's, or any of the other women on the island he would have happily welcomed into it--and so obviously (obviously) it didn't belong there.
So he shoved it out. His bed wasn't really big enough for the two of them, anyway.

Tuck hit the floor with a groan, but he took the blanket with him. He didn't remember there being anyone in bed when he'd actually stumbled into bed, but probably there had been, he'd simply been too exhausted to make heads or tails of it. Then again, he could vaguely remember seeing blonde hair and thinking that it was Heidi, even though Heidi had seemed a lot more muscular than Heidi had been the last time he'd seen her.
What it really came down to, though, was the fact that Evan was kind of a d**k because there was totally enough room for the two of them. It was just kind of... close, but what the ********, it wasn't as if they hadn't been in close quarters before.
"Did I grab your a** while we was sleepin'?"
In all fairness, Tuck was still half-asleep, or maybe three-quarters asleep, or maybe he was just entirely all the way asleep. Didn't matter, because the floor wasn't half bad compared to the 'beds' he'd been sleeping in at the outposts.
Tuck didn't really expect an answer, though, because he was snoring again.

One problem was immediately replaced with another, as the blanket had wandered off and now Evan was cold. Rolling over with a grumble--and nearly falling off himself, because the bed was definitely not big enough for the both of them no it was not--he draped his arm over the side and blindly felt around for it.
The floor was a little lumpy, Evan noted as he awkwardly groped for his blanket. Not nearly awake enough to be curious--or cautious--his arm flopped around until he was able to catch a corner of his blanket and pull it off the floor. Whatever it was could wait until morning; Tuck probably didn't need his eyes and nose anyway, right?
His quest complete, Evan rolled back over. The blanket was still half on the floor, but the other half was covering him, so that was okay. He dimly registered a voice, but was too asleep to parse what it was saying. "Shut up," he mumbled.

When Tuck finally woke up (he had no idea what time it was), he was using his duffel as a pillow. There was no blanket (apparently Evan was something of a hog on top of being a ******** d**k), and Tuck's first thought was that he'd been evicted from the bed by a very tall, muscular Heidi. Squinting, he turned to glance at the bed - and that was when he realized that it wasn't Heidi on the bed, but Evan, and he'd probably made a complete a** out of himself the previous night.
Well, nothing ******** new there.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Tuck let out a jaw-cracking yawn before slamming his fist down on the bed next to Evan.
Yeah, there would probably be consequences. There always had been. Wouldn't be the first time, wouldn't be the last.

Evan's legs were cold, but that was okay. It wasn't enough to rouse him from the peaceful--if eventful--few hours of sleep he had managed to get.
Some a*****e pounding on the bed next to him managed to do it, though. He jerked immediately into a hazy hyper alertness, his fist instinctively lashing out to smack whatever the hell that had been. Fortunately for Tuck, Evan hadn't been in any kind of position to get a good windup on it, so he only punched him in the face a little bit.
It took a little longer than that for Evan to register exactly who he had just punched in the face, and he felt an unsurprising lack of regret about it. "You dumb son of a b***h," he grumbled with equal parts irritation and fondness as he sat up, the blanket sliding off of him. "When did you get back?"

Tuck had known exactly what he was getting into when he'd slammed his hand down on the bed - to be completely ******** honest, he'd half-expected Evan to draw his weapon. When all that happened was a sloppy fist towards his face, Tuck knew that he had been lucky. As it was, Evan's fist barely grazed his cheek.
"I don't even ********' know, man," Tuck briefly rubbed his cheek. "Swear to ******** I thought this was my room. Even thought you mighta been Heidi. You real lucky I didn't try cozyin' up."
Actually, he was probably lucky he hadn't tried cozying up.
"Nice t'see you too, a*****e."

Evan paused halfway out of bed to give Tuck a quizzically raised eyebrow. "Where have you been, that you forgot what women look like?" He shook his head and padded over to the desk chair to retrieve his clothes. He was careful to keep the bed between them as he continued, "Besides, she's got a nicer rack than I do."
He nodded as he pulled on his shirt and pants, giving Tuck a quick once-over just to make sure he came back in the same condition he had left in. "Glad to see you're back in one piece. Your deployment go okay?"

Tuck squinted as Evan rose from the bed. He could always count on Evan to be a smart-a**.
"Ain't my fault. Didn't even know I was comin' home 'til today. Yesterday. Last night, ********. I can't even tell you what day of the week it is."
He gave a melancholy, overly-dramatic sigh.
"Can't even remember what Heidi's rack looks like. That prob'ly ain't a good sign." The moon shrugged his broad shoulders and slowly creaked to his feet.
"One piece, or so they tell me. Went alright. Glad t'be back, but with my ********' luck they gonna be shippin' me off to some other ********' hole in the wall, Christ." He fell silent, oh-so-briefly.
"You makin' breakfast?"
He could hope.

"Think it's Wednesday," Evan offered helpfully, sitting down to pull on his socks. "And you're gonna have to try hard to remember, because I haven't seen Heidi since I got back. I kind of figured she was with you," he admitted.
Boots were last, pulled on and tied with brisk efficiency. "I wouldn't look too hard for wood to knock on," Evan advised. "We've had some s**t go on here the past few months, but mostly it's just been ******** high school drama bullshit all over the place. I'd volunteer to go back into the field just to get away from it most days."
He barked a laugh at Tuck's question. "Yeah, I'm making breakfast," he said with good-natured reluctance. He rose and shook his head on his way to the door. "Guess some things never change, huh? Like you doing dishes."

"I intend to stay as far away from the bullshit as possible, man. An' she wasn't with me. Deployment woulda been a hell of a lot more enjoyable if she was, I can ********' guarantee it."
When Evan picked up and moved out, Tuck followed after like a big, eager puppy, duffel strapped across his chest so that the weight of it was carried on his back. He half-jogged to completely catch up to Evan before reaching over to clap his friend on the shoulder.
"If I gotta do the dishes for a meal, I ain't gonna argue. Might be able to sweet talk someone else into doin' it - unless I gotta clean to eat, and then I'ma clean them dishes the cleanest they ever been. It's easy to forget how MRE's start tastin' the goddamn same after a few months of the same ol' s**t."
He grunted.
"We got hot water? That's all I ********' want. A meal an' a hot shower. I can figure the rest out from there. What kinda s**t been goin' down?"

"Stay off Twitter," Evan suggested. "It's like a black hole combined with a car crash made out of people: it'll suck you in and you won't be able to look away, no matter how horrible it gets--and it will."
He grinned over his shoulder at Tuck's uncharacteristic--but definitely understandable--willingness to clean. "Yeah, I guess that is one benefit of living on the island. If I never have to eat another MRE, it'll be too ******** soon. That s**t has to be as bad for us as the things we're sent out to fight."
And damned if Evan hadn't missed the big man, both his easy camaraderie and the sympathies that only they, among few others on the island, could really share and understand. It was more than worth the rude awakening and foregoing the morning's training. "We got hot water back a couple of months ago. Guess someone got it up and running between missions. I don't know where you were stationed, but it got pretty busy in the desert. Got eaten by a sandworm, firebombed, and lost one to the ******** monsters all in, oh, a month or so. Hope your trip out was less eventful."

Tuck snorted. He'd only been on Twitter a time or two; wasn't really his idea of a good time. There were better ways to spend his time. He really couldn't think of anything just then, but he didn't really crave social interaction as much as he once did.
Rolling his shoulders, Tuck lifted a brow and grinned.
"Too much crazy s**t goes on around here. Sometimes it's nice to get away from all of it, you know what I mean?"
He paused, then laughed.
"Who the ******** am I kidding. I can't wait to get back into s**t. We lose anyone I know?"
Tuck sounded a little somber.
