IC

The town of Neued had suffered a number of disasters in the short months following the attack of the Oban army. Now not only did they have the enemy on their 'door step', they had suffered fires as well a cursed tree bringing the dead back to life. The people of Neued seem unable to catch a break so when construction began anew they weren't prepared to have a new and different sort of problem on their hands....a lack of coin as well as materials.

The lack of money effected everyone, and even the leader of a traveling troupe could sense that if business didn't get better, things were only going to get worse...

Quest Tasks
|| The quest should focus on Eira trying to get money to set up an establishment/venue for her troupe to perform in.
|| Money is tight for the town of Neued as there have been fires that has destroyed several homes and important buildings.
|| While trying to raise money, a handsome man will appear on the scene. He will have an uncanny ability to persuade people to part with their coin or valuables by using his looks and charisma.
|| The man is a con artist and will target Eira as well the rest of the people in town, though Eira will be his primary focus.
|| Eira initially should believe this con artist. You may decide on how and why she falls for his con.
|| The quest should conclude with Eira discovering and revealing the man for who he really is.
|| The quest is not reliant on her securing the money needed for her troupe or regaining the money lost by the town.

Part One: In Need of Money

"Things are just getting worse, aren't they?" Eira muttered, looking over the town from up high where she was sitting alongside a warrior friend of hers named Zsiga. After giving everything a once over she gave a little huffing sound, not exactly feeling herself of late, to the point that she didn't even have up her normal front, "I swear this place is cursed and we are stuck here, unable to escape the town's draw." It was like one of those scary stories that people told around a camp fire only the things going wrong in this place weren't a story, they were real, and they were disturbing. It seemed as though those fires had just kicked off the hell that this place was being subjected to. Fires first, then the dead walking around, something that she heard a Shifter had fixed, but who knew, right?

The warrior looked over at Eira, then around the village with his remaining eye, nose wrinkling a bit, "I hear ya, this place really is rather rough these days, isn't it?" He said, leaning back against the trunk of the tree they were perched on at the moment. He'd been bed ridden for some time due to his extreme injuries but now he was back on his feet, well foot, and meant to do more then just lazy about. Going on a walk, and then a climb, with Eira was helping him to build his strength back up but now that they were up here one could easily see the damage being done to the place since the Obans had driven the allied army back here, "Why not just leave? You said that your troupe was in charge of healing, not fighting, surely everyone should be able to carry themselves out, right?" He asked of the Ice Tribeswoman that was sitting next to him.

"Mmm, one would think so, but one needs money to travel and we are running a bit low on that... and it's not as though it's an easy thing to get in this village. I could probably dance from sunrise to sunset and still not get the coin needed to get from Neued to... well, anywhere else." She wasn't really picky at the moment, all she knew was that anywhere was really preferable to the cursed town of Neud... but she also knew that they were stuck at the moment. It had her at her wits end really, how was she supposed to take care of and lead her troupe when she couldn't even get them out of this place? The real question being why was anyone really staying here given the shape of things? The village was obviously unsafe, wouldn't it be best to fall back to another town? One that was deeper into Jauhar or maybe one in Tale? Oh! Sauti would be nice... or better yet, back home in Zena! She didn't want to give up on her dream though, she wanted to continue to lead her troupe just not in the way that she had thus far.

Crossing her arms under her ample chest she said, "You know what I need? A place of my own instead of risking getting stuck in an unsafe place for too long." It was just a muttered thought but as she sat there, the idea bouncing around in her head a bit she gave a smile, "Mmm, yeah, I think I like that idea. A nice place of my own, maybe in Tale or Sauti, somewhere centralized, that isn't so close to the war front, where I can protect my own." Turning to look at Zsiga she added, "And you will be coming with us, of course! I would hate to just leave you here in this place." Not on her watch, Zsiga had given an eye and a leg for this war, he didn't need to give anymore if you asked her. He should just leave with them along with, well, the others that had already given enough, those that didn't want to fight, even those from the Oban side. War was hellish, something that she didn't think anyone should have to deal with.

Giving a bit of a smile Zsiga looked over at Eira, "It's nice of you to say, we will have to see how things go." He didn't much care for the idea of just abandoning the war all together but at the same time he could only stand with two crutches, walking was a bit of a pain, and he was easy to sneak up on from one side. He didn't really think that he would be winning any wars any time soon. It might be best for him to get out from under foot, so that he wouldn't get in the way of warriors who were still whole. Giving a smile he said, "I do like that idea though, a nice place to go to hang out and watch you dance, I could do that all day. I'd offer you some coin myself but I don't really have much left. A lot of it has gone to the relief fund for the town and what I have left I need to be frugal with."

"Relief fund?" She murmured, finding it to be the first time that she'd heard of that. While didn't think that she had enough to get the troupe and herself out of town maybe she had enough saved up that she could help Neued a bit? Was it worth it though? Should she spend what money she had to fix up a town that was obviously cursed? Could one come back from a bout with the walking dead? She wanted to say no, mostly because if she came face to face with her dead mother she would probably see to it that the rest of the town was burned to the ground just to make sure the curse on the town didn't spready.

After waving away that dark thought she said, "Mmm, maybe I aught to talk with my father about it? Maybe he'd be able to help out as far as money goes. At least enough to get the troupe out of Neued and off to... well, somewhere else? Anywhere else is good by me, so long as it's not loaded to the brim with curses and danger." She mused to herself out loud, feeling that if anyone could do it that it would be Herluin. Turning to look over at Zsiga she asked, "Do you want to come along with me while I search for him or would you rather return back to your tent to rest up a bit?"

The warrior seemed to think about it for a moment before he finally said, "Given that it's your father I think I will leave a private talk like that up to you. I might take a walk though, I won't regain my strength if I just lay around all day. How about we meet up later and you can tell me how it went?" He suggested, not wanting to be underfoot while she talked with her father about such complicated and personal matters. They were friends, sure, but not such close friends that he should be meeting her parents he thought to himself before the two of them started to make the slow decent to the ground, one that was a little more complicated for Zsiga but given that he refused help, wanting to regain control of his life now that he was back on his foot again, it was a little slower going.

Once both of them were on the ground again Eira said, "I will see you again soon, Zsiga, do be careful, alright?" She told him, giving him a smile before she hurried off to where she knew her father was last. Best that she tried to catch up with him quickly, so that she had a chance to chat with the busy hunter before he went out on another food run. With as many people as there were in the village these days the hunters were kept busy keeping everyone fed, her father was one of those hunters. Hopefully she would be in luck though and he'd actually be around since she knew the wait for his return might very well be a lengthy one.

Part Two: In Need of Direction

After getting to where the hunters had been bringing their kills, leaving them for the women of the village to prepare, Eira was rather surprised and pleased to see that her father was actually in. He had been out hunting from the looks of him, he looked a bit on the tired side and had some of the local fare in his grasp. Rushing over to him she said, "Father! I am glad to see you!" She chirped, putting on her best smile, something that had the man giving her a look that said that he was onto her instantly. Eira was his daughter after all and if anyone knew her all about her it was Herluin.

"Can I help you, Eira?" He asked, giving her a smile as he walked over to toss the animals he killed onto the table for the women to clean and prepare. He gave them a smile and a nod before turning to look over at his daughter once more, "Are doing alright? Your brother?"

"We are doing alright, stuck though. We haven't exactly been making much in the way of coin so we are kind of... well, stuck." She said, resting her hands on her hips before looking around the area, wanting nothing more then to tell him exactly how much she wanted to leave this place... but given how hard the hunters were working she didn't want to seem ungrateful. She just wanted to go somewhere that didn't seem to be as much of a mess as this place is. Still, she couldn't quite bring herself to complain... at least night right here. She'd done a whole lot of complaining to Zsiga but the two of them had been alone, here with her father who was working so hard, she just couldn't.

Reaching a hand out he patted Eira on the head, "Everyone has it tough, Eira. I know that you aren't happy with what is going on or being stuck in one place, especially a place that is stuck on hard times, but they need you and your group here." He told her, giving her a bit of a smile, "If you need a bit of coin to help your group get by though, until the town gets back on its feet, I can give you a bit. The hunters are being paid for their work since they are feeding the townsfolk." He handed her his hunting spear so that he could dig into his pouch, getting what he felt would be enough to help a group that size. Let's see, there was his two children, the siblings Borra and Sin'qua, as well as their bodyguard, and their pets. Holding out the handful of coins he said, "Here you go, Eira, please take good care of your group and trust me when I say that you shouldn't leave yet. With as low as people are feeling they really need those like your troupe."

Eira looked down at the money she'd been given, giving a nod of her head, "I will consider it, but I also need to consider what is best for them. I will try what you suggest, of course, but I also have to keep in mind their safety and... well, state of mind, you know?" Eira was one that was rather used to thinking only of what she wanted. What she wanted to do, where she wanted to go, always thinking about herself... but in forming the troupe she suddenly found herself responsible for as well as leading other people, four others in fact, and she couldn't very well let them down. She couldn't say it was a downside, per say, but it sure did make it rather impossible at times to be as selfish as she would normally act. Bah, how much did being responsible suck?

Giving a smile she added, "Thanks for the help, Father, I think I might find the others, see what they think of your suggestion as well as what they want to do next. I will let you know if anything is decided." Now, for the tricky part, that being trying to track them all down. Makani would likely be off lending aid to the healers, Borra would be... wandering around, Gyuri would be following him, and Sin'qua would be off being a stick in the mud. She'd probably find the latter off which the most easily and Sinny would be the most helpful as far as serious decisions went. Borra would go along with whatever, Gyuri didn't really talk much, and Makani seemed to just want to be helpful... as such Sinny was really the only useful one to be had. Best to find and chat with her first about... well, everything at this point. She really didn't know what to do at this point, not when she had a lot of various paths that she could take. Sure, the best one would be packing their things and getting out of Neued as quickly as possible but as it wasn't exactly doable at this point in time they might have to do something else.

What her father suggested, perhaps? It might mean performing for free, just to help out the villagers as far as morale went, while hoping for tips. Not the ideal situation but the more tips the better, it meant that they could get moving sooner then later that way. She supposed that she wouldn't exactly know what exactly to do though until she caught up with at least Sinny. It was this particular thought that had her quite preoccupied, to the point that she didn't even see the handsome Wind Tribesman until she was actually crashing into him...

Part Three: A Pretty Face

Eira took a couple steps back away from the Wind Tribesman, glancing over toward him as he squatted down to pick up a bag he'd been carrying, one that appeared to hold a bunch of jewelery and other items that seemed to hold value, as well as some coin. It was a bag that she really wouldn't mind having herself given that she was in need of coin for various reasons. She put on her best smile, stood up tall, and otherwise did her best to look her best, as the man looked her way... only to give her quite the smile himself. Well now, wasn't he a pretty one she found herself thinking, momentarily distracted from her goal of trying to get him to share that haul of his.

The man gave Eira a once over before his smile brightly, holding out a hand to her, and said in a charming voice, "Donations for the relief fund? Even just a little bit will help toward Neued's reconstruction and revitalization! Together we can make this town whole again!"

Blinking a couple times Eira felt her hopes dwindle a bit. So he was a part of those who were gathering money for that relief fund that Zsiga had mentioned? Blast, that meant that the stuff he had in his bag was probably all for that, so the chances that he would be sharing anything with her was a bit unlikely. She didn't even think that she had it in her to ask even though she really, really did want to. Instead she gave a smile and said, "I don't really have all that much in the way of coin myself, my troupe isn't exactly rolling in money at the present." She only had so much, most of which had been given to her by her father, and she couldn't quite bring herself to give it away. Especially not when what she had was needed by her group.

"Ahh, a troupe mistress? How interesting running across one such as yourself in a town like Neued. You must really have a kind heart to come to entertain those in need." He said, resting a hand over his heart, looking as though he were quite in awe of her presence, something she might have laughed over were it not for the fact that the guy seemed so earnest.

"Oh, yeah, it's quite kind of us, though we didn't just arrive, we've been helping out in non-entertaining ways for a while now, since before the battle." She explained, waving it off before crossing her arms under her chest, looking thoughtful, "We might be seeing about putting on some shows though, maybe making a bit of coin as tips so that might get moving before the next battle begins." Surely them entertaining, making some tips, and then heading out before the Obans returned wouldn't be a bad thing, right? They would at least be doing as her father suggested they do, they would entertain the people of Neued for a time, that being the safe time between now and renewed battle. Those in her group weren't really battle ready if you asked her, sure, Gyuri might be able to fight but she would rather he stick to his job of protecting them instead.

The man gave a slow, thoughtful nod of his head as though he were thinking on something before snapping his fingers, "A grand idea! I am sure that the people of Neued could really use such shows! It would lighten their hearts in these trying times." He said, seeming as though he were quite the naive and hopeful sort to Eira.

Once again Eira had to remind herself that as a member of the relief fund she couldn't try to talk him into donating to her cause. Figures that the one rich guy she stumbled across would be one who had nothing he could share. Bergchi really needed to drop a rich, handsome, powerful Ice Tribesman in her path, one who would be only too happy to fund her troupe without getting under foot or asking to get any say in troupe affairs she thought to herself idly. After giving a look around, and not finding her Goddess given gift of said man she turned her attention back to the one she had found, "We will do our best, though I must admit it probably won't be as much help to them as what you are doing." She said, much preferring that her it be her troupe that somehow magically fixed everything... but no, it would likely be this man and the relief fund that did, "What are your plans exactly? Using the funds to rebuild? To pay the hunters? Or something else?" She was a bit curious, wondering if maybe she could get him to suggest to his people that funding entertainment might help?

Ack, no! She wasn't going to go after his money, damn it! She was just curious about how they were going to be helping the city that was all, nothing more and nothing less. Even if she wanted a rich man to fall into her lap this one wasn't technically rich, he was just carrying money for someone else, he might very well be broke himself just like she was. She would have to focus on finding her own coin, as well as a way to go about making it. A show was the best idea but she supposed she would really need to figure out a place to hold said show on top of everything else, huh? Not as though Neued had a stage that she had seen, but she'd figure something one.

"Plans? Ah! I can't say exactly, I am mostly just in charge of collecting funding. I am just a pretty face who is sent out to butter up the people and get them to open their wallets while others behind the scenes do the actual planning." He said, lifting a hand to scratch it against the back of his head, "A little embarrassing to admit but I will do what I can to get donations. You sure that you don't have anything to donate? A little goes a long way when it comes to making things better!" He seemed to give her a once over, as though eyeing the things that she was wearing, valuing them at a glance.

Eira blinked a couple times, feeling for a moment a bit leery of the guy but pushed the feeling aside, not wanting to judge him for doing his job. He was in charge of gathering funds and some of what she was wearing was valuable... but she wasn't exactly willing to give it up. If push came to shove she might trade it for supplies for her troupe but she wasn't quite ready to give her things up for a town she still felt was cursed. At least said cursed town had people like this Wind Tribesman fighting fight it though she supposed. Giving him a smile she dug into the pouch at her side, taking out a coin, and offered it to him, "I have a big troupe to take care of but I can offer at least this. I know it's not much but..." She shrugged.

The man looked down at it before giving a smiled, taking her hand in his his, lifting it up to kiss the back of it, before he said, "Even this small amount is a blessing, I do thank you my dear Troupe Mistress." He said, drawing back his hand along with the coin, bowed a little, then turned to head on his way.

Eira watched the man go, sighed a little, then turned on her heel to continue on her way. She had a lot to do, more so now that she had made a small donation, and she could only hope that things went smoothly from here on out. Maybe the donation would be a good way of getting some good karma, at least enough to garner her a blessing from Berchi, that would be nice.

Part Four: A Touch of Confusion

After a bit of searching around Eira found herself still unable to find even one member of her troupe, making her wonder where they had gotten themselves off to. She'd bet every coin she still had on the fact that where ever Borra was that Gyuri was there as well. What about Sinny and Makani though? The healing tents, perhaps? Given that Sinny was the one that she needed most she felt that she was the one that she should search for first. Where could Sinny be... off glaring at people she'd guess? She was likely the hardest on in the troupe to deal with but it was because she was who she was that she was so useful to Eira. As much as she loved when everyone listened to her no matter what she knew that it was helpful to have someone around to argue with her... and yet the one time she really wanted her opinion 'poof' no Sinny to be found.

"Hrm... serious now, where is that woman at when I need her?" She muttered to herself, arms crossed under her chest, glancing around from side to side in a thoughtful manner.

There was a chuckle from off to her side before a familiar voice said, "Why Eira, I think this is the first time I can recall you seeking out another woman or admitting to needing one." Glancing to the side Eira would find that it was Zsiga, heading back toward where his tent was located after his long walk. A good thing she thought to herself, wanting nothing more then to have him sit down to rest for a bit. The fact that she found him and nobody else though had Eira sighing a little bit to herself.

"So I can find you easily enough but not the members of my troupe. Do you think perhaps that I should put bells on them? It would make it a lot easier to find them when they go missing like this. Gyuri especially could use one, he's too quiet as it is." She seemed to consider the idea for a moment before shaking her head, deciding that she wouldn't spend too much time on that idea no matter how useful it might be. She might be able to talk Borra into wearing a bell, he was pretty gullible, but Sinny... she'd probably try to figure out a way to beat Eira senseless with said bell.

Walking over to Zsiga she said, "I got a bit of coin from my father, only a minimal amount, to help the troupe out, but still not enough to travel. Not to mention he feels that we should stay here, to entertain and to bring up the morale of those who are down in the dumps due to the curse on this town." She said, looking around a moment, then sighed, head falling back, starring up at the sky a moment, "I want to do so, I want to help, but given how broke the town is can we afford to entertain in hopes that they will donate to us despite how bad things are? Being in charge can be a pain, huh? Not that I will let anyone else take my place mind you."

Zsiga chuckled, "Of course, I would never think of such a thing as that." He reassured the grumpy troupe mistress, "So you got some coin, what do you plan to do with it if you can't or don't want to leave Neued?"

Eira seemed to consider the question a moment before giving a bit of a shrug, "I... don't really know. Thus far all I have done with it is give a little bit to a member of that Relief Fund for the town, he seemed pretty eager to help out." She said, waving one hand, as though it were nothing really to speak of. It was a small portion of what she had on her so surely it was barely worth mentioning... that was until Zsiga commented.

"You donated? I have to admit I am surprised that you were won over by a bunch of wrinkly old ladies, that seems a bit out of character for you Eira. Maybe you are in need of some sleep? Troupe work can surely wait until you have rested, hm?" He suggested, his single good eyes glittering with amusement... until he took in the look on her face that seemed to utter confusion. Blinking a couples he said, "Eira?" Calling out to her in a questioning manner.

Shaking her head she said, "Old ladies... no, it was a member of the Wind Tribe, a too pretty guy that is about our age. He was carrying a sack full of jewelry and coin, he said he was gathering donations on their behalf." She told him, not sure why Zsiga thought that she would be as eager to donate to some wrinkly old witches. Who would be? It was as the Wind Tribesman had said, he was using his pretty face to get donations together, leaving the actually plotting up to someone one else, those old women probably. Now, now, she told herself, best that she try to be nice. No matter who was gathering the valuables and coin it was all going to a good cause, right?

"Huh? Jewelry and coin? I mean coin, sure, they are looking for those sorts of donations, but more over they are looking for things like food, medicine, bandages, clean water, that sort of things." He said, then pointed, "They have a tent set up over there and... Eira? Where are you going?" He called after the Ice Tribeswoman who was suddenly rushing off on her own, "Speaking of someone who needs to wear a bell." He muttered to himself before he called out, "I am going back to my tent! Catch up with me later!" He could only hope that she heard him before he was on his way again.

Part Five: The End of a Long, Terrible Day

Eira was not in a good mood, in fact she was in a mood that rivaled the storms of Zena as she headed away from the tent that a trio of old women had set up. She'd gone to them, met with them, talked with them about what they were doing... and about the Wind Tribesman that she had met. Needless to say that she wasn't the only one that was in a bad mood at the moment as the woman, as well as Eira, seemed to realize that out there somewhere was a man who was posing as a part of their group to rob other people blind! As if the town didn't already have enough wrong with it between the fires, the walking dead, the Obans, the wounded people, the shortage of food, the lack of money to be had, but now there was some smiling jerk out there that was stealing from people who were already beaten down?!

It was one of those things that just made her want to find the guy so that she could rather her hands around his neck and squeeze until he turned as blue as a member of the Ice Tribe... but it wasn't her place. In fact the trio of old crones had called for some guards, guards that took a statement from Eira along with getting a good description of the man, before they hurried off to gather a hunting party. They were off to hunt the guy down along with what he took so that they could drag him back here, hopefully for a good beating she thought to herself crossly. She had flirted her way into help, out of danger, and the like in her time but never once had she done something that would cause others to suffer! At least not in the same way, sure they might end up a bit disappointed that she had no desire to actually settle down with anyone, date anyone, or really hook up, but at least she wasn't trying to destroy a village that was already on its last legs!

"Ohhhh, I hope that they string him up by his feet and let passersby kick him!" She muttered to herself, coming up with various other scenarios for what should happen to the guy on her way back to the little house where her troupe was staying. It wasn't much, small and cramped when everyone gathered, but at least a place that they could call their own for the time being. She wanted to go inside, find a pillow, and scream into it. Her troupe would return soon enough, to find that not only had she not secured them a venue yet but she had ended up donating most of the money she had gotten from her father to those old women due to guilt. She'd been tricked by that sleazy Wind Tribesman just as everyone else had, she'd no only let him get away but she had even given him a bit of her own money! It meant that she would need to start over almost from scratch as far as gathering money for her group went, something that she hoped they would forgive her for. She was supposed to be in charge, was supposed to be one of the smartest of the group, but she'd fumbled this one rather well...

Lifting a hand she rubbed it against her face, "Ugh, Sinny is sure to laugh at me for this one." She muttered, suddenly wanting nothing more then to avoid the one that she had spent the day searching for. She could only imagine what Sinny would say, probably that she deserved it, that it was karma coming around to bite her in the backside, something like that! Fine, so she would just have to... what? Be nicer in the future? Hmph, maybe... it wasn't as though she wasn't trying. She was friends with Sinny after all, not to mention Zsiga, she was getting better... even if she did refer to those trio of nice old ladies as crones and witches in her head. At least it wasn't out loud, right? At least she had donated to help their cause! She was getting better and she was for certain better then that Wind Tribe sleaze! So there! She gave pause when she realized she was having an argument in her head with a made up version of Sinny.

"I need a nap." She muttered to herself, pausing as he found herself nearing the house the troupe was staying at, then turned and detoured toward where Zsiga was staying. She'd deal with troupe business in a little while, after she cooled off, rested up, and was ready to face all of them and tell them they were back at square one and still stuck in the accursed town of Neued despite her best attempts. Until then she meant to hide out with her warrior friend and try to recover from the awful day she'd had. If nothing else at least things could only get better from here. She'd land on her feet and start the uphill battle that was taking care of her troupe soon enough, and if nothing else at least she had enough coin left over to get everyone some good food, that had to count for something. Nobody could say that she didn't run around and work hard for her people, today was just a stumbling block, that was all. All of her ideas and plans couldn't be winners, that was all.

For the time being, instead of thinking about herself and her troupe though she was going to pray to Bergchi, and any other spirit that might be listening, that the Wind Tribesman got what was coming to him! If not at her hands then at the hands of the guards hunting him, the town he'd taken advantage of, of the women whose good names he'd used. Any of the above was fine by Eira.

All done! I chose not to have Eira catch him since she is a dancer, not a fighter. Maybe another person of a warrior class can go after the thief during their class quest and bring him back for a good beating? Eira will very well give them a kiss provided they are male and maybe a pat on the back for a woman. LOL
