Claude watched some hunters slip in and out of the kitchen, and had thought maybe only certain personnel were allowed in, but was being proved otherwise. Now she wanted to go into the kitchen too, because she had nothing else to do and was curious. Plus maybe she could grab something that wasn't what was being offered in the cafeteria. That'd be nice. Maybe more edible food. Maybe. The trainee slipped into the kitchen, and when no one seemed to be chewing her head off, she took some time to just look around. Nothing super special back here...large kitchen was large, and she was checking out who else was in here too-- Oh, well. There was someone who was tall and well built... Then she absently wondered what his preference was. Something she was learning quick on Deus was that a lot of the menfolk seemed to swing the other way. Not that there was anything wrong with that, but if the entire male Island population was like that... It was like torture. So many good looking men and not a thing to be done with them. Sigh. She stood there for a moment longer before she eventually moved, and approached the young man she had been eyeing earlier. "Hey." She greeted, her tone neutral. "Are you on kitchen duty?"

Another day, another sandwich made out of whatever random ingredients Evan could find and slap between two pieces of bread. Whoever had done the shopping last had gotten an ungodly amount of lunch meat, and Evan was taking the opportunity to make an equally ridiculous sandwich. After all, they didn't really need to keep five different kinds of sliced ham in the fridge, did they? He was doing all of them a favor by getting rid of some of it. (Mostly, he was doing himself a favor by eating it.) He only caught sight of the girl who approached him out of the corner of his eye. "Nope, sorry," Evan murmured, the bulk of his attention focused on trying to keep a cursory leaf of lettuce from sliding off the testament to the deli counter he had created. Once he was satisfied that it would stay reasonably in place, he turned to address the speaker more fully. He had cast his gaze low--because most of the girls on the island seemed to be on the frighteningly small side--and was pleasantly surprised to get an eyeful of a Very Nice Rack instead. Almost reluctantly, he tilted his head up--and up--to a more respectable level, pleased to find that he was very nearly at eye level with this statuesque stranger. He smiled, slow and warm, as he turned to face her more fully. "But I would be happy to make you something."

The longer Claude stared at him, waiting for an answer, the more she hoped he wasn't totally swinging the other way. Because it'd damn shame for her. Oh, okay, he wasn't on kitchen duty, which meant he was just here...making himself something to eat. Nice. She approved. It meant she could do that too. Though she watched his face, and didn't miss where his eyes had first gone, and a bit of a smirk pulled at her lips. She crossed her arms, and her smirked widened a bit. Actually, there were quite a few things he could do that would make her happy, but he was talking about food. Right now. "That's very kind of you, considering you're not on kitchen duty...?" She trailed off, indicating she was waiting for a name.

"Evan," he supplied. "Roberts. Sun division. And believe me when I tell you it is no problem at all, Miss..." he trailed off, waiting for something to call her mentally other than 'Finally, a tall one.'

"Claude." She dipped her head a bit in greeting as well. "Same division as well..." Well, that was neat, she supposed. Someone else who was in her division...and stunning none the less. That meant she should definitely get friendly with him...right? Right. "Well...since you're offering..." She paused, making a small show of some modesty at asking. A very small show, as her smirk widened and she tilted her head. "Could you make me a sandwich?" Some meat between a bed and a sheet. Ah, so bad. So bad. "Please."

"Yeah?" Evan's smile brightened at the news that this tall drink of hotness was in his division. If nothing else, it meant that he had a better reason to want to get to know her better outside of the obvious. "Then it is very nice to meet you, Miss Claude." And wasn't she adorable, pretending to be shy. She looked so cute doing it that Evan didn't bother telling her that she didn't need to, that he was ready, willing, and able to do more for a pretty face--and one in his division, no less--for a lot less than she was offering. "I certainly could, Miss Claude. Anything special you want on it?" He still had the lunch meat out, and he was sure he could find anything else he might need in the fridge, as long as it wasn't too outlandish. That was what she meant, right?

The way Claude played the game was that she, more often than not, let the other party make the first pass. She rarely made the first pass. That was just the way she rolled. It was smoother that way, and once she knew the other party was interested, it was just a matter of a tango with words. Forward. Straight to the point. Good...but damn if she didn't want to try casting a hook out first. Damn. Being on this island though, the rules were different. This wasn't Vegas. People came and went through Vegas all the time, not so much here... So she needed to be a bit more...tactful she supposed. "The pleasure is all mine, Evan." She murmured. As to what she wanted on the sandwich... you was the first topping that came to mind but...that was just cheesy. "No. Whatever you can do is more than fine." She paused for a moment before adding, "And what can I do to repay you for this act of kindness?" She also had some ideas for this as well.

Unfortunately for Claude--and even more unfortunately for Evan--he wasn't aware they were playing any sort of game. Yes, Claude was pretty, and tall, and a Sun, and while it was both his obligation and his genuine pleasure to be nice to her, she would be around for at least a while and he was hungry now. He enjoyed flirting with the women around the island as much as anyone else, but he had his priorities and they left him just a little bit oblivious. Also, hungry."No charge necessary," Evan replied, turning to root around in the fridge. "I'm not a deli. You just happened to be in the right place at the right time." He pulled out a tomato, half a head of lettuce, and some sliced cheese. "You're not allergic to anything, are you?"

Evan turned and rooted in the fridge, and Claude took that time to admire. As much as she could with these bothersome coats anyways. At least the shirt he was wearing under his coat left little to the imagination... Also, cue a mental sigh. No game right now. Oh well. At least she was getting a sandwich right now, which was really nice. Claude also would have liked to point out that Evan could most certainly pass as a deli in the right context, but once again, that thought was kept to herself. "Ah, no, I'm not..." She trailed off for a moment. "So...Evan...how long have you been around for?" This seemed to be the question to ask right now, since she was rather new still.

"Too long," Evan replied with a grim smile and the resigned acceptance of an inmate knowing they were facing life without parole. Maybe not so much regret for the crimes that had sent him there, but a resolve to deal with this new reality with as much optimism and dignity as possible. It wasn't all bad, though, not with sandwiches whenever he felt like making them and beautiful women to make them for. "About a year and a half," he clarified, slicing the tomato by touch alone to give Claude the vast majority of his attention. "How about you? You one of the new hatchlings?"

Something in that tone made her think of Lex and his attitude towards this place. She briefly wondered if she'd be saying the same thing in the same way after being here that long. If she was here that long. Lex also seemed terribly annoyed at her division, and from what she heard, Suns were quick to go. The trainee took to leaning against one of the counters near Evan as he spoke, crossing her arms as she looked over at him. Claude gave a low whistle. "That is a long time." She agreed, and then smirked lightly. "I suppose. Pretty new. Still getting my bearings. Got any advice for the new kid on the block?" He was a sun and was still around, that had to mean something.

"Well, welcome to Deus, then," Evan replied. "There's only so much I can tell you. A lot of what you'll learn will be out in the field--the catch is, you never know what to expect out there, either. The best advice I can give you right now is to spend as much time as possible on the training fields. Learn how to use your weapon, and then learn how to use your weapon in your sleep." It would have been strange for him to say even a year ago, still in that transitional phase between green boot before the reality of the situation really hit him, but now it seemed like old hat. Without my weapon, I am nothing had never been more true until he had come to Deus. "There are training courses you can do, things you might want to consider picking up and reading, but you're a Sun, first and foremost--offense is your first priority." Evan put the sandwich together while he talked, slicing and plating as he had done a thousand times before so he could give the bulk of his attention to Claude. He smiled as he pushed the plate towards her. "Ask me questions." He didn't bother asking if she had any; new as she was, she had to have some.

Claude briefly noted that Evan would have been a better candidate to have woken her up, oh well. She gave a short nod of her head. "Thanks..." Yeah, she heard that somewhere else, as well...and well, the weapon training only rung too true. She couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at this rate. "Got it." She murmured, and paused from saying anymore momentarily as the sandwich was pushed her way. Looking more than just good, she had to admit. The trainee then tried to briefly recall the last time a guy (a good looking one at that) had done something nice like this for her. "Thank you." Her even tone dipped to express some genuine gratitude as she picked up the plate and held it, but didn't take a bite yet. Questions... Actually Claude was rendered a bit speechless right now, only because where did she start asking. After a moment, she finally asked, "Is everyone here off their rocker?"

"Not a problem," Evan said, accepting Claude's gratitude with a casual wave. He busied himself putting the food away and cleaning up to give her time to think of questions. Mostly, he didn't want a bunch of other people walking in expecting the same; word spread quickly when there was free food to be had. Claude's question drew a chuckle from Evan. "Not a bad start. You'll come to find that we deal with things that don't exist even in the worst nightmares on a fairly regular basis. We're constantly putting our lives on the line even here on the island. Everyone copes differently. You'll find what works for you and suddenly everyone will seem normal--relatively," he was quick to add. "Normal for Deus. There's still people here that are genuinely crazy because they're just crazy." Crumbs swept and food repacked, Evan brushed by Claude to snag his own plate. "I like this game. Ask me another one."

As Evan launched into an explanation to her question, Claude finally picked up the sandwich he had oh so nicely made her, and took a bite. Damn. This was really good, and not just because a fine male specimen made it (though it helped). She quietly ate the sandwich, a brow quirking relatively high at times as she listened. "So in short, yes, everyone is off they're rocker and it's only a matter of time before I am too?" A pause. "Lovely." The trainee's attention was riveted on Evan as he brushed by her, only to follow that up with the word 'game'. She had to, once again, muse that there was another game she'd rather be playing with the man next to her and it definitely did not involve a lot of words. She did chuckle lightly though, and smirked lightly, that Evan seemed amused. She shifted her plate to one hand, and then reached out to brush her hand across his chest. "Crumbs." Was all she said, though if that was really her intention or not was left up to debate, since her fingers lingered before she finally withdrew them. Claude then hummed lightly in thought for another question. She tapped her temple with a finger. "How do you cope with this?" By this she meant having another person in your head. "Thinking. Talking. Showering...having someone constantly looking in...I suppose everyone gets used to having company while in other personal pursuits as well, hm?"
