A playful knock sounded at Peyton's door.  On the otherside, America stood ready for a day at the beach in booty shorts and a bikini top, only the work gloves tucked tucked at her waist and boots on her feet indicating this would not be an afternoon of playing around. Grinning she called, "You ready to get down and dirty, Pey?"

The door opened, and a tiny figure in a similar outfit appeared on the other side of it. "I'm always ready to get down and dirty with you, Merica." She'd pulled all that curling hair back into a messy bundle at the back of her head, the whole thing tied up with bright colored scarf with the knot displayed in the front. Like a poster child for Rosie the riveter.

"Well aren't you the cutest button in the drawer," America grinned, taking in the smaller Hunter and then diving in for a hug. "I hear this course is the easiest and funnest and we get a princess to protect."

The girl's eyes were bright with an eager energy that spelled for shenanigans.

Pey's grin flashed brighter at the compliment before America was engulfing her in a tight hug that was returned with enthusiasm. "Then you have heard more than I have, because I have not heard anything about it." The admission came with a chuckle.

"I'm excited to see what we're up against, though."

As they walked to the course staging area, America outlined it with broad, enthusiastic gestures. It was the only course where they weren't in danger themselves, but their princess would be, so they had to build up a defense for her as best they could. And that princess could look like just about anybody on the island.

What followed was a giggling debate on who of their acquaintance would look best in the pink poufy dress and hat.

General Information
Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.

There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.

These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.

If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves.
If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.

    Mechanics
  • Your princess has 20 hp
  • First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.

    Brick: 4 d12
    Wood: 8 d6
    Hay bales: 12 d4

The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.)
  • Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess.
    Example:
    My defenses are 5/6/8/10
    The attackers are 3/7/3/8

    The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2
Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP.
  • Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP.
  • Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.

  • Trainees: 0 hp bonus
  • Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path
  • Hunters: +1 hp to each path
  • Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

When they arrived on the scene and finally got a look at their princess Peyton shot the supervising techs and suspicious glare. The golem standing in the center of the the little island was a a tallish figure, real skinny, and was sporting a pretty scruffy beard. He didn't look particularly thrilled at being there, and the dainty Sun wondered how they'd managed to capture Taym's attitude so precisely.

"What do we wanna use?" She asked, lips pursing in a mix of annoyance and amusement as she turned to regard her partner in crime. "Bricks?" Seemed the best idea, even if they didn't get as many, they were still the most sturdy building material. Personally, Pey would take a small wall of bricks to a large wall of hay bales any day.

At the confirmation, Pey led the way over the building material and started grabbing arm loads of bricks, and then headed over to start setting them up in the middle of the paths as barricades.

For a moment, America pulled out her phone considered taking a selfie with Princess Taym. As far as the small running jokes between them one, that one never failed to make her giggle a bit. But then she remembered Lawrence taking a selfie with the Taym clone and the clones in general and the more recent upset. The phone went back into her pocket, and the girl proceeded to put her back and muscle into making sure they didn't see Taym die a grisly death of getting slowly eaten by shadows.

A couple minutes in, a soft, slightly nasal voice began to sing, "There you see her, sitting across the way..."

Wide-eyed, she turned to Peyton, shock soon turning into an incredulous grin. Their joining in and turning it into a whole sing-a-long with Princess Taym as they worked. He was surprisingly good at sha la la la la la's.

"Look like the boy too shy, ain't gonna kiss the girl." America couldn't help the snort of a laugh that followed.

Eventually the walls got built, though unfortunately one was looking a bit wobbly due to some loose sand. Maybe next wave they could dig a small ditch to better embed the bricks. The hard part of course, was watching the wave of shadows attack and not being able to do a thing about it. She wondered, fleetingly, if this wasn't just a defensive of exercise but a leadership one as well.

The cry of the princess golem as several shadows finally broke through had her wincing, but America didn't look away. The damage was light enough, considering how many attacker there could have been, though likely painful nonetheless.

"We'll need to do something about that bottom wall," she commented calmly as the shadows faded back and the golem went back to singing, a little more quietly this time.

Sing-a-longs were always appreciated. Like America, Peyton had briefly debated on taking pictures of videos, but she never quite got around to pulling her phone out, and once the shadowlings were released and set upon the unfortunately dressed golem of someone both girl's held very dear to their hearts, the desire was wiped away completely.

It was not pleasant watching, even knowing their princess was a golem and not actually Taym in a dress.

When it was over Peyton nodded in silent agreement, features grim as they were let back down to build up their walls again.

As suggested, Peyton went straight for the southern wall and started dragging the heel of her boot along the ground to make a trench. Then she set about stacking the bricks back up into a nice, now less wobbly, wall.

"I think that's better. They look a lot more even this time."

The bottom path had definitely needed the extra attention as a large attack hit it. America bit her lip as she watched it fall to reveal...no more attackers. It'd been close, but enough. Exhaling in relief, she shot Peyton a triumphant grin. The rest had all been small potatoes, and the walls remained sturdy against them.

"That's right assholes, that's ********> craftsmanship right there," the girl drawled, sauntering back to the walls and princess.

"When I was a young warthog..." Princess Taym began, in quietly serious tones.

The sing-a-long had resumed.

"Yeah!" Eat that, shadowlings! "Damn fine craftsmanship, right there. That's how you ******** do it." Spirits considerably elevated, Peyton was quick to jump back into action, joining in on the sing-a-long.

"He found his aroma lacked a certain appeal. He could the Savannah after every meal." She gave a little wiggle of her hips before pointing both fingers towards the redhead, passing the lyrical torch.

Then she grabbed herself an armload of bricks and started building! Again, the south path wall was given a little extra love.

The walls were looking stronger and stronger. Though the southern still had a bit of trouble around the base, it was miles away better than their start. As far as courses went, this one felt good in a way that wasn't quite like the Sun Run but not too far from it. There was a strong sense of satisfaction involved in facing down a hoard of shadowlings, even if it's only through planning and hard prep work.

As the attackers hit, America smiled at Peyton and began, "They're sending me to Russia for a bit. A month at least, but maybe more."

A cry came from the course, two shadowling having slipped through to attack the princess. Making pained face, America sighed, "I think the loose sand is intentional. Can't always rely on solid ground."

"Russia?" The Sun spot sounded alarmed, and she gave her friend just the biggest, saddest, puppy face that ever crossed her delicate little face. "That's a really long time." First Taym, now America? "It's not like Taym's stupid Sahara mission, right?"

The pained cries yanked Peyton's attention around again with a sicking tug at the pit of her stomach, and she grimaced. Golem or not, watching on helplessly was not something the Sun was in anyway used to doing. She was a woman of action, and when the walls fell, and the shadowlings slipped past, it went against everything in her nature not to rush out to defend their princess. "They make them a little too life like for comfort," she mumbled, wandering back down with a frown.

Of course, that was probably the point.

The south wall was proving to be a consistent b***h to maintain, so again that was where Peyton headed with an armload of bricks. The trench was dug with the back of her heel, and bricks replaced.

"Naw, it's not super safe but not on the frontlines, either. We're gonna be scouring and setting off traps and s**t, which I'm pretty good at. there's gonna be nine other hunters, two from each division, so I'll have backup that isn't a one-handed psychopath. Much better than Taym's mission," America assured Peyton as they worked.

"Not sure who the others are, but maybe it'll be nine pretty men and I'll have myself a nice little harem," the redhead waggled her eyebrows playfully.

Again the attack came, and again that bottom wall. Everything else held solid, and that one nearly so, but still one shadow creature snuck through, biting at the princess's ankles in a manner that had America snorting fondly despite the failure. The princess trying to kick it off as about as much coolguy dignity as the Real Deal under similar assault and wouldn't he just be so mad that the pink dress didn't make any difference?

Well, that wasn't exactly comforting, but she was reassured enough to put the extreme sad eyes away. America was a strong, competent woman, and she was good at taking care of her self and other's. The fact that there would be other's there, a whole team, also made her feel better. Still. Why did the long missions have to last so long?

"You better be careful." It hadn't needed to be said, but she did anyways.

The news that her moon wife was heading off island for a month or more had managed to kill a little of the fun, but the golem trying to kick the shadowling off managed to tug a small smile over gloss covered lips. It was uncanny how Taym like it really was.

Something that would have been less amusing if she'd run into one of his more dangerous clones.

"I think we've got one more wave, and we're golden." That damned south wall would have to be built up again, but the others were holding strong.

The continued work and rework on the southern wall was taking its toll, weakening with every attempt to rebuild and fortify. It was a definitely a small lesson America would take to heart. She shot Peyton a thumbs up as they waited for the last wave of attackers.

The attack was the most brutal yet, and while the southern end went down quickly, the others were all near as well. In the end their princess was battered but still standing, if a bit battered and subdued. America wanted to hug the thing, but again, that unease crept in.

"Well, we won at least, yeah? Like hell I'm gonna do more waves, though." She was rarely one to turn down an additional challenge, but watching this particular princess die off was just not something America wanted to see right now.

Hi-fiving the smaller blonde, she strolled down to the princess, unsure what to do with him.
