I have been thinking this over for a while, but now I can say with confidence that I like Seliph more than Sigurd.
Come at me, bro.

My tumblr: http://sublimelymanic.tumblr.com/post/94113881713(KIDDING) My actual response: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! burning_eyes Well, I'd rather sleep with Sigurd. Seliph can sleep with his sister. It's cool. Welcome back, Tiki! You've been missed. ...but do you like Leif more than Seliph? That's the important question.

N'aww, thank you sir! Manic Martini ...but do you like Leif more than Seliph? That's the important question. Naturally. By a fair margin. Though the two of them make interesting counterparts. One represents a nation he has never set foot in and yet is driven to fill the shoes of its savior anyway, and the other has been raised in the thick of his nation's problems, and is often the center of issues that you actually see the cause and effect of in the game.

Well THAT'S a reLeif! We can still be friends.
Seliph and Leif make brilliant foils.
...except Leif is better.

My list of favorite Lords needs an upgrade. First I gotta finish up Twinspotting so I know how much higher Ephraim needs to be on the list.
I'm actually more interested in Sigurd as a player substitute than an actual character, at least at the moment. I've said before that I am more interested in the characters around him than I am he himself, but that doesn't mean I don't find Gen 1's conclusion any less powerful. I think that one thing Gen 1 really has over Gen 2 on the whole is how tightly written it is. One thing flows into another, and though you can poke holes in everything when all is said and done and it isn't without flaws, it is a great crescendo of things gone wrong with an explosive finale where everything gets scattered. But I think FE4's gameplay plays a big part in why people get so emotional over it. Since FE4's gameplay requires the player to be more offensive in many cases, if you don't push impulsive, slightly imperialistic Sigurd (or for that matter, plaything of destiny slightly unsure do it for the greater good Seliph) forward, nothing will happen. Therefore a lot of the fault lies with you as well as Sigurd and the rest of the crew.
I feel that in Seliph's case, they use the concept in a different way. In a way that contrasts to his character, yet at the same time suits him. He is a good kid, after all. He just has Levin and destiny and Levin (did I mention Levin) pushing him forward in the grand plan while he still is learning how the world actually works.
I talk about FE4, but I wouldn't think this way if it weren't for FE5. Since I feel a lot of themes and ideas brought up in FE4 were able to really be on show in FE5. Relevant to this thread especially, how heroes are made.
