Persephone and Leto had certain arranged meeting points. The Dark Mirror Princess rarely left Mirrorspace, and so Persephone treasured every time she managed to coax her out. It wasn't healthy, for her to be alone so much, and anyway, Leto was all Persephone had left.

Natron had purified, Damocles no longer spoke to her, Kerberos was Ascended, Erythrite was all but gone. There was Bischofite, but she was fairly certain he would rather be anywhere but around her, if only because she represented the tight leash he was still on, even as a General-King.

Leto was different. She loved Leto with all her heart, and it hurt to see how badly she was cracking. So she did what she could, brought the other Princess with her on patrols, tried to spend as much time with her as possible.

Tonight she was waiting on a rooftop by a mirror she and Leto had placed together, ready to start their patrol.

God, she hoped Leto showed up.

These days Persephone was Leto's one and only tie to reality. Sure, the occasional Dark Mirror Senshi would acknowledge her as they passed her by in MirrorSpace. But for the most part, Leto spent most of her days alone- either in the stark white room that was Ares' throne room, or passing in and out of mirrors in the dark depths of MirrorSpace where the walls were cracked and the Wraiths were lurking. Once the voices started a few months back, it was safe to say that Leto had lost it and reality was a hard thing for the Senshi of Camoflage to come by.

She almost didn't make it to their meeting place tonight. Stopping in MirrorSpace, she stared at her reflection. Her red eyes with next to no life left in them, and when she looked downwards she curled a lip in disgust at her leg. A sign of weakness. A sign of what the enemy was capable of. A sign of her lack of ability to literally keep herself in one piece. Leto never wanted Persephone to see her like this- she deserved better than that.

A clumsy step backward. A deep breath. A shake of her head.

Persephone was the only person that Leto couldn't leave hanging.

No matter the internal struggle she went through every single time, she always made it to their meetings. Tonight would be no different.

Her right hand gently caressed the surface of the mirror before it shifted under her and she pushed her way through. The moment she stepped out on the other side, her body exploded with goosebumps and a shiver swept over her. It wasn't cold, but the wind on her bare skin was something she rarely felt. Her eyes swept upwards to meet Persephone's.

Every time she saw her her heart raced and ached all at the same time.

Persephone lit up when Leto stepped out of the mirror in front of her. It always made her heart ache to see how much her lover was suffering, but at the same time, it was just such a delight to see her. Her approach was subdued only out of respect for Leto's injuries, and when she was within arm's reach she reached out to rest her hand on the taller girl's cheek.

"I'm so glad to see you," she said, and then she leaned in to kiss her. "How are you doing?" She didn't ask about the Court, because she knew it wouldn't be fair and because she quite frankly didn't want to know. The less she was aware, the less she could tell.

Ever since she had seen Metallia reach into Bischofite and wipe out any thoughts of rebellion, she had been wary of the Negaverse's power. The last thing she wanted was to have knowledge that could hurt the woman she loved if it was pulled out of her.

Anything that Leto felt was completely washed away the moment that Persephone's lips touched her own. The ice that seemed to permanently reside on her heart melted and she wrapped her arms tightly around her and held her close. In those few brief moments, all that mattered was her and them. The Senshi of Camoflage closed her eyes as she clung to Persephone, taking a deep breath.

Finally, she pulled back, kissed her a second time and offered her the tiniest of smiles. A quick glimpse of the happy girl that once existed.

"I'm okay," she said as her fingers moved and ran through Persephone's thick green locks. She was staring at her as if she would never see her again, taking every detail of her in. If she was being honest with Persephone and herself, she would have told her that she was in fact not at all okay- that the voices that she heard in MirrorSpace were happening more and more often. That she felt like she was going crazy. That every day it was harder and harder to force herself to return from the depths of MirrorSpace and face her as a broken shell of who she once was, both mentally and physically.

Honesty was never something that Leto was particularly good at.

She turned and took Persephone's hand to begin their patrol. Every once in a while as they walked, Leto would allow her Wraiths to slip out of their shards and collect what minimal energy she possibly could for the Dark Mirror Court.

Finally, she spoke up, "They're going to pick sides eventually, Persephone... If they choose Order, which I don't doubt that they will," Leto glanced at her as they walked. She knew that Persephone didn't want to talk about 'work' but she couldn't avoid it forever and the DMC had a meeting arranged, which automatically made Leto assume the worst. "If that happens, it's going to be a death wish for you to continue to see me. Whether I stand with them or not," she shook her head. "It won't matter where I stand. I won't let my Court hurt you, but the Negaverse..." She trailed off. It pained Leto to even think about what they could possibly do to her.

Every tiny glimpse of a more normal, sane Leto was a blessing that Persephone treasured as much as she would treasure a more traditional gift from her lover. Her smiles, her laughs, her kisses were all precious, and grew more so as things around them got worse.

It was even precious to walk with her in silence, just holding hands. Persephone didn't bother draining - the rest of the officers took plenty care of that - instead she kept her senses open for Order auras. That would be a far bigger problem.

She flinched a little, when Leto started speaking. Talking about the terrible rift between the Negaverse and the Mirror always made her heart ache. And yet there was no avoiding it, because Leto was right.

"I think most of them have chosen already," she said, "and I don't...I can't blame them, really." The Negaverse had done terrible, terrible things. "But I don't care - I don't care what I have to give up, I won't let anyone hurt you." A request for safety for the Dark Mirror Princess would be difficult. Metallia would extract her price, and she suspected strongly that her fellows would not be pleased with her. "They don't trust me anyway - after all, clearly I must be hiding something, I haven't gone and shattered my planet and myself as a demonstration of true loyalty."
