This is an invitation only RP event. Participants are selected from the list of volunteers wishing to be more active in the shop and/or to make some new friends. Events range from meta-centric to just RPs promoting players to interact with each other and build character relationships. These are mini-ORPs, in a sense, and even those that seem trivial in the grand scheme of things might be more than meets the eye...

To be added to this list, PM Hopefolly.

This event is for one participant and will branch off into another RP consisting of at least two participants.

Character requirements:

Sympathetic or curious or just really thirsty.

Beyond this, characters are free to be anything and are encouraged to act completely IC, including but not limited to attacking NPCs (the animals played by Hope), walking away abruptly, and so on. If your event ends up being too short, you will be given another, so fear not.

This thread is locked and this event will not be open until September.

The Situation:

Your character has found themselves in Quadrant 2 near (but not quite in) the Palude Wetlands. Summer here ofttimes feels like Spring elsewhere; there are no unbearably hot days to speak of in the time you've been traveling these lands, however long that may be.

If there's one thing worth complaining about, it's that this heavily wooded area has led you to several dead ends, leaving you stranded before mighty and impassable walls of trees and bramble bushes. You haven't been able to locate any potable water sources for an entire day.

Then, just a few minutes ago, you came across a black wolf -- he was missing his left eye, as you probably noticed -- and he seemed instantly aware of your unfortunate plight, more than likely because he had suffered it too. Although he wasn't overly friendly about it, he did point you toward a stream with water fresh and clean enough to drink; however, he gave you some parting words of warning:

"There's another wolf meandering around over there," he'd said. "I don't think she's right in the head, so you might want to wait until she leaves."

Regardless of how long you do wait (if indeed you wait at all), the wolf he mentioned does not appear down the path you must follow. Either she's still there or she left another way. Whatever the case, you are too thirsty to be daunted by the prospect of conversation, and so you head for the stream to see about the drink you desperately need.

“You know, when someone warns you that there could possibly be a strange wolf ahead of you, one does not usually just trot on along as if a warning was never given.” The crow, Vree, spoke from his perch upon the back of a sandy brown femme wolf. The two companions had been traveling for quite some time now. The young she-wolf, being one of the rare seers of the world, had had many reoccuring visions of terrible earth shakes, liquid fire pouring from a mountain, ash filling the air, and explosions all around her. In fact, the young wolf had not gone into great details of what she had seen but Vree could tell that it had shaken her quite a bit. So the two wasted no time and began to run away from the mountain. As far away as they could. And when they felt the small tremors of the earth shake, they knew their choice had been correct.

“Are you listening to me, Azmaria?” Vree flapped his wings in annoyance as he eyed the back of his friends head and finally saw her ears swivel back as a confirmation of hearing him.

“Yes, yes, Vree. But what are we suppose to do? We can't just keep going on the way we have. We haven't had anything to drink in days and the trees are too thick here for you to be much of any help.” Needless to say, Azmaria wasn't feeling as confident as she may have looked. The strain of leaving her only home and striking out into unknown land was tough, but not knowing if any of those she had known from her home land had also survived ate away at her. She had no doubt that many had perished in the destruction of the volcano. She just hoped that her loved ones, who she hadn't been able to warn, were safe. “Besides, our one-eyed fellow back there seemed nice enough, and maybe he just doesn't much like another fellow loner that lives around here. You know how loners can be.”

Vree fluffed up his feathers. “Don't forget, we fall in that category now.”

Azmaria sighed. “Yes, yes. I know. I am sure there are other wolf packs around here. Maybe we'll find one who will take us in at some point. But, for now, we need to find water or otherwise we won't survive long enough to even find a potential new home.”

The crow made a noise of acceptance to Azmaria's reasoning but he certainly wasn't happy about it.

So Azmaria continued in the direction they were pointed. She picked her way through brush carefully, keeping all of her senses alert for the wolf they had been warned about and other possible dangers.

Azmaria need not have been as attentive a wolf as she was to see her there there. The rich color of her coat, though grizzled throughout, was striking enough to catch a wandering eye. At a glance she was no more threatening than a wiry blade of grass. Loose skin hung off crackling bones, and her stance was wide and unsteady as she leaned forward to lap from the murky stream. This stranger was not the backlash of a loner's cruel life, but the victim of time itself, well into her dotage it seemed. As the duo approached, she lifted her head and turned to watch them.

The area was packed with muggy heat, and if they were to leave and return later, it stood to reason the sweltering temperature would have done away with the miniscule water source. An animal would already drink as much mud as liquid in its current state.

Bothersome mosquitoes that lingered around immediately took to the newcomers, particularly the crow, trying to harvest a meal through fur and feathers.

Strangely, the elderly female remained immune to their assaults.

The flash of purple amongst a sea of green and brown was a dead give away that they had come across someone. Not to mention the gentle trickle of water also clued the companions in that they had -finally- discovered the water they had been looking for for so long. The only problem was...the obviously frail looking femme.

Azmaria watched the female as she lapped up the muddy liquid and felt a strong pang of sympathy for the obviously weathered female. Life could be a cruel and fickle thing and it appeared that the passage of time was not the kindest for the brightly hued femme.

Vree on the other hand, just eyed the unfamiliar wolf uncertainly. He wasn't sure he felt all too comfortable being around a wolf that another had dubbed 'not right in the head'. Besides, the blood suckers were beginning to really get to him, not to mention the oppressive humidity and heat where they were. BUT, their goal was in sight. Even if it looked like one would ingest more mud than water when drinking from the 'stream'.

Now, all Vree needed was for Azmaria to move around the female that was in their way.

Except Azmaria had other plans. Plans, that Vree wasn't sure he was going to like.

Dipping her head down to show she meant no harm, Azmaria approached the old female all the while Vree dug his claws into her back as a sign of disapproval. Az didn't pay the crow much mind. She was far too use to his ways and truthfully she was much too worried about this elder they had run across. "I am sorry. I hope we didn't disturb you. We, uh, we were searching for water and another wolf pointed us in this direction."

Azmaria licked her maw after speaking. The temptation of water was so close, but she wasn't about to just barge on in. As badly as she wanted the water, to get out of the oddly oppressive humidity, and escape the blood suckers, she wasn't about to disrespect an elder wolf.

Odd though, Azmaria noted. The elder femme seemed not bothered by the bloodsuckers. Though the swarmed all over herself and poor Vree, the brightly hued femme didn't appear at all inflicted upon. Maybe the female was just far too use to their assaults at this point? Certainly that must be the answer. After all, if one's usual spot of water was a nesting ground for the blood suckers, surely one got use to their attacks.

Vree, on the other hand, was anything but immune and was truthfully becoming miserable. "Just, let's get water and leave! These insects are going to drive me insane. I am going to be so itchy after all of these bites I've gotten already!"

Azmaria looked back at the crow. "Vree, be nice. We'll get water in a moment."

Contrary to the passing stranger's unfavorable review of her mental state, her eyes were not only tracking Azamaria's every move, but observing it with acumen so apparent it was curious how her critic had missed it. Though she did hesitate to speak, evidently lack of practice, not comprehension, was to blame. This was not her native tongue.

"I knew crow myself once." Her words were muffled, but easily understood. For a heartbeat, she stared at Vree, instilling a sensation she was more than what he saw. There was nothing senile about her... only something surreal. "He was also louder than the thunder same as you," she chortled, "and complained twice as often. Come stand beside me and I'll fend them away."

If either of them were to heed her advice, they would feel a strange sort of resistance when nearing wolf and water. An invisible wall would crumble to let them pass, then immediately build back up. The air behind it was stagnant and even more humid, but it was, as promised, a space absent merciless pests.

Azmaria smiled warmly at the other female as the elder watched then acutely. Something was definitely different about her and Azzy couldn't quite put her paw on it. Her guide may have been right that something wasn't right about the female, but Azmaria was thinking that there was certainly nothing wrong with the elder's mind.

Vree on the other hand wasn't quite as observent nor intuitive like Azmaria. At least, not in a sense that he understood. Vree knew that this female wolf made him uncomfortable so he had no keen interest in being near her. After all, he wasn't the one who wanted to venture down the path and possibly run into this wolf. "Uh...I am good over here thanks. Azmaria and I will do just... Hey! Wait!"

At the invitation, Azmaria wasted no time in walked towards the old female. Vree at this point nearly fell off Azmaria's back in surprise that the sandy colored companion of his was being so trusting! "Azmaria what are you..." He stopped mid words as he felt the difference around him as they drew by the purple femmes side. He stopped mid sentence and seemed to stare at this stranger.

Azmaria on the other hand let her smile light up even more before chuckling. "I can't say I've ever heard Vree go so completely silent like that before." She glanced around herself as if trying to see the strange barrier that it felt like they had walked through. She had felt it, there was no question about that, and Vree had as well which meant it wasn't some sort of strange sensation that only she was feeling via her seer abilities.

"You knew a crow before? Was he a friend? Vree and I have been together for awhile now and I sometimes forget how he can come across as rude or loud to others." She glanced back at her companion and gave him a look. Vree just gave her a look in return. "

"This may be plainly rude of me to ask so straight forward, but what is it that you're doing that...well...I guess is stopping the blood suckers?" Cocking her head to the side Azmaria looked directly at the the she-wolf before sheepishly dipping her head. "I am sorry. I should introduce myself. I am Azmaria and this stunned silent one is Vree."

Vree rustled his feathers and looked away slightly in shame and partially unwanting to admit he may have been wrong in acting so rudely. "I am not stunned silent..." He muttered.

Vree's abrupt silence had the still nameless stranger wheezing a chuckle. It tapered off as more of a cough, but once the hacking ceased, she smiled just the same. When questioned on the status of her and this phantom crow's relationship, she hummed in agreement. Then, her fellow wolf posed a reasonable question she would have given a reasonable answer had Azmaria not unintentionally distracted her with something far more intriguing.

Suddenly, the intensely pensive gaze was no longer focused on the Vree. She mumbled something to herself in a language Azmaria might one day recognize as Agaphene. It sounded surprised, whatever it was. "Azmaria of Telk?" she asked in Common, inspecting them both, one after the other, over and over.

Vree scoffed at the old wolf's wheezing chuckle. He wasn't fond of being the butt of joke, even if he did bring it upon himself.

Azmaria worried for the elder as the she-wolf's laughter turned over to a cough. All azmaria wanted to do at that moment was care for their new found companion but seeing as she could barely find water for herself and Vree in this new land she probably could do little to help. Maybe she could find a rabbit or something for her? Either way, Azzy's worried heart settled down a bit when a smile replaced the hacking cough.

The soft vocal of agreement of this females friendship to a crow almost made Azmaria feel a sort of kinship to her. After all, Azmaria hadn't come across another wolf that had such a close bond to a crow like she and Vree had. At least, possibly, until now.

Both Azmaria and Vree were surprised in the sudden shift of the she-wolf's attention and shift in language. Azmaria's brows knitted together as she listened to the strange words, trying to fathom if there was any sense to them but gave up. Whatever was being spoken wasn't something she herself understood.

"Um, yes I am." Azmaria replied almost reluctantly under the inspecting gaze she and Vree were getting.

Vree on the other hand grew nervous. He wasn't sure if this sudden change in demeanor was a good thing. Then again, he was always the more cautious one of the two. "You sound like you have heard of Azmaria..." Despite his uncertainty over this strange female, his curiosity was being peaked.
