It had been a perfect day to host an event! Hosted in West Destiny City, close to a large city park, it drew in a large crowd of families. Ainsley, otherwise known as Charlotte, stood on the stage most of the day as she ran the event as a sponsor. After a long day, there was still a smile on her face as she begun to finish up the closing ceremonies. She wasn't oblivious to the sounds of the people, and she wanted to change it. She tried her best to show the city in a more positive light while under its new rule. Things didn't have to be bad! If things were going well for her, they could go well for everyone else too.

The crowds had begun to disperse immediately after the event but many people lingered around with their friends and family to continue to enjoy the day at the park. Packing up backstage, Charlotte could hear some of the people discussing the event. They seemed mostly positive reviews, the people enjoying the lineup but only time would tell if there was an effect on the general public or not.

It was approximately an hour after the event ended that Charlotte started to leave. She decided to take some time to enjoy the park as well, walking on the grass as she made her way toward the park fountain. The heels had not been the best choice to enjoy an after event park activity though, and soon she slipped her shoes off and began to walk around as if it were the most natural action in the world for her. She liked to think that her event was a success, humming softly to herself as she settled down by the fountain. It was a familiar tune but she wasn't quite sure where it was from.

It wasn’t that unusual to come into the city for an event. These kind of things drew large crowds, and it was an opportunity for both sides. A time to meet up with contacts, under the guise of a causal bump-in, and to gather first hand information of what changes were going on. In his civilian form, Samson Colt pretended he was just in from some farm land outside the city for the day. Driving an old svu with a switched out license plate, he got himself in… and he’d let himself worry about how to get back out later.

Sam wandered the park, it was almost pleasant, watching people accept the mindless bullshit propaganda they were being fed. Always working at something, Sam had no time to let himself enjoy it. A small notebook in his pocket had scribbled details what he was looking for in between doodles and drafting drawings. If he was caught, few would make out the lines or numbers that could easily have been dimensions and calculations as they were coordinates. But today, something had stopped him from focusing on that notebook.

While in the park, Sam became caught by something that haunted him, a cascade of strawberry blonde hair that was impractically long, and ocean-like blue eyes. Her picture was everywhere, on posters for the event. He was little too late to catch the majority of the stage performances, he watched from a distance. How she moved, how she spoke. It was nearly perfect, but there was just something off about it all that he couldn’t put his finger on. Even if she was nearly right, his mind was tell him no, it’s not her.

He had left the stage area, and continued about his ‘normal’ day. Stopping for a quick meal, Sam was so glad that over the years hot dogs were still as delicious as ever, tan skinned man sat down on the fountain’s edge. Happily chewing, he didn’t even notice the spokeswoman settle near him. What he did notice was the humming.
There she was again, with the face that for some reason seemed just a bit off. But then there was that tune, one he knew so well himself.

All Sam could do was sit there, chewing, and stare at this woman who was so right but wrong. He just couldn’t wrap his brain around it.

While she might have seemed familiar yet not to Samson, Charlotte looked at him and she couldn't remember anything about him. An unfortunate casualty of war, her civilian memories had been taken away by the river of Lethe. She looked at him with a smile but it wasn't the smile she too often gave him. It wasn't the smile of adorning love, and longing. It was simply friendly, a smile she gave everyone as a model and frequent event sponsor.

Suddenly, the humming stopped.

"Might there be something on my face?" She said with a laugh, her hand gracefully touching the side of her face as she looked at him.

Stunned. That was what that laugh did to him, like bells ringing in his ears to accompany the melody of a song he knew so well. It made his heart race.

Heart versus his mind. Powerful magic kept his mind saying no, no this is not the girl. But… Sam shook his head. “Uh… no, you don’t have anything. That was just, a pretty tune.” Finished with his hot dog, Sam tapped the melody with one hand against the hard stone surface he sat on.

Time in a Bottle. Jim Croce. He knew the song all too well. Remembering on back when they were young, or younger to be exact as they both still young now. It played on the radio when he first confessed his feelings out loud to her.

If Ainsley still existed in Charlotte's mind, she might remember where she remembered the song from. She would remember how her heart felt when he confessed to her in words, and how it ingrained itself in her mind since then. It was their song, and over the years she still sung it when she was feeling down. It would remind her that no matter how tough things got, she still had someone who loved her and was willing to stay by her side.

Over and over when Cora disappeared, and again when Bell had given up her duty to live a normal life. She couldn't blame Bell for such things but it didn't stop her from feeling even more lonely than before. She thought they were in it together, something that no matter how things changed, she thought would hold them together. It was hard to believe but in the end it kept her sister safe, and she could approve of that.

"Do you know the song?" She asked with interest, sliding a little closer to Samson.

Goosebumps speckled his arm as this young woman scooted closer. Not necessarily a nervous person by nature, the reaction was beyond Sam's control. One hand mindlessly ran to rub his arm, a calming motion. “You could say I’m well versed with it. I guess you do too.”

One hand on the fountain wall still tapped, fingers twiddling a little as if plucking the chords.

Charlotte's face turned a little red when Samson said she was well versed with it. The truth was, she wasn't as well versed with as he might have suspected. She didn't know who performed the song, the title or even where she'd heard it before. It was sort of trapped in her mind, blocked in by the decay of old memories.

"The truth is, I simply cannot remember where I've heard the song before."

Not wishing to remain on the subject of her own embarrassment, she quickly brushed it off with a smile and hesitantly tried to change the topic.

"Did you come here for the event?" She asked, hoping the answer was yes.

It was a hard question to answer. “Um..” was the first word to graze his lips. His reasons for coming to the city waffled between personal and professional. But to the park? His reasons to sticking around as people wandered away from the event… his reasons to be sitting there, on the fountain ledge? That was for her.

Samson cleared his throat. “You could say that. I might’ve left earlier though, if it wasn’t for your face.” He half smiled, with his attempt to be charming. Though he felt a tingle in his spine, like a tug of his inner voice telling him that was a creepy thing to say to a stranger who happened to bare a close resemblance to his girlfriend.

Sam picked up a flyer that happened to be on the ground, with the same face he was looking at plastered on it. “I guess that’s why you’re a poster girl though. Keep us interested.”
