Sonia Valis, a slim, mid-sized Orderite with frizzy pale-ginger hair wrapped in a bun atop a narrow, mischevious pale blue-white face with striking orange freckles amid a rosy blush, tapped her spoon on the massive pot of oatmeal and raisins – a tasty and nutritious meal for all the children that were in the protected center of the city. It was also sweet and tasty, especially with a glass of fresh Sheron milk. Who said you couldn't have breakfast for lunch? And dinner? Not her, that was for sure.
She listened carefully in the wake of her spoon. Her bright green eyes thoughtful. “Sounds like things have calmed down.” she said, smiling at the big khehora who had said his name was Abellio, “That means people will be coming back, eh?” She grinned at the little girl currently playing with the khehora's tail, “I bet your pappa will be real proud of you for bing such a good girl.”
She was curious to meet someone who Raemos had met and liked enough to let a bonded khehora use his name. So cautious, her son! Silly boy. The world was full of excitement and adventure and a stranger was just someone you haven't met yet, which meant they were the best kind of someone.
Since they had name dropped her baby boy (haha, growing up so fast!), she had kept a personal eye on them both. “Well, I'm proud of you.” she said, offering the girl a spoon and a bowl of oatmeal with shredded strips of something dark and rich smelling, “So proud, that I'm giving you a little bit of chocolate!” she winked, “How about that!”
She smirked at the khehora, “And how about you? What would you like as a treat?” In her opinion, after this shitstorm of a siege, everybody deserved a damn treat. “Big plate of meat, right?” she guessed. After all, he was a khehora.

Keona turned to look over at the talkative Orderite woman for a moment, giving her a smile before he turned to glace back in the direction that her Daddy was in. It wasn't that he never left, there were a few times that he had to go to chase off one scary thing or another, it was just that this was the longest he'd been gone. She would rather be was here but she knew that he had to help to fight with those Mara creatures, big scary things that they were, but she knew that he'd be fine. His magic was amazing after all! Something she wasn't allowed to look at all the time though since he had 'Aeduan' magic. It was when he used his Ysali magic that she was allowed to watch him cast, a pretty sort of power for sure.
Leaning over she wrapped her arms around Abellio's neck, starring up at him, and he looked down at her, giving her a smile, "He's still alright, I can tell that he is perhaps a little tired, but he should be back soon." He assured her, leaning over to nuzzle her between her golden horns. It was a nuzzle that had the little girl smiling which made him feel as though he'd done well at his job. Turning his attention toward the woman who had been looking after a lot of various people, mostly children that seemed to have gathered. She seemed nice enough and she was an Orderite just like Jun's mother... though it was a curious thing. She was Corporal Raemos's mother, right? She seemed a lot different then her son he found himself thinking but shook his head to clear such thoughts as she came closer, offering food to Keona, the food she'd been cooking up as well as a treat.
"Keona, you should eat. It will be alright, Jun... ahh, your dad, he will be back soon." He told the little hybrid that was perched on his back, still clinging to his neck as she waited for Junjie's return. He was waiting as well, for Junjie and Arjan to return, to tell them what was going on outside the walls. The Mara were an intimidating sort of enemy, but Sonia seemed to think things were calming down, meaning that they wouldn't have to worry for much longer, right? Did that mean they'd be heading out for Serenia then? To make sure that Lena was alright? It was something to ask Junjie when he returned.
Sitting up a bit Keona looked up at Sonia, the purple 'light' in her eyes looking at her, then at the bowl and spoon that she was offering. After a moment of thought she reached out and took it, "Thank you." She told the woman, shifting how she was sitting on Abellio's back so she could rest the bowl on her lap. She stirred it around a moment, helping to cool the contents of the bowl off before she started to eat.
After making sure that the girl was content Abellio looked back to Sonia, "Hm? Oh, well I don't want to be a bother." He said, feeling that he could probably wait until Junjie got back to eat... but at the same time a big plate of meat really did sound good... he could go for something like that. He just didn't want to bother an already busy woman was all.

“Good good...” murmured Sonia. She was not worried about Raemos, or she tried not to be. Her husband wasn't going to go down so easily again, and her son... well, he was a tough cookie. She'd raised him that way, after all. She might not know with the same sort of certainty of a bonded, but she knew her boys would be fine. Otherwise she'd have words with them. Then again, Mallew still had a long way to go before she forgave him for tossing Raemos out uncerimoniously. Even if Raemos was turning out to be an amazing young man, it was still a jerkish thing to do. Still, getting his dumb self injured had made her realize how much she loved him, so... “Can do!” she said. They'd had to cull some of the Sheron herds once they'd managed to reach Tukyere – not all had been able to handle the march, and that meat didn't need to go to waste. She moved lightly, like a dancer, into the makeshift pantry, once a schoolroom in this district of Tukyere, and came out with a bowl of fresh, red meat. “There you go.” She put on some gloves and picked up the huge pot of oatmeal with surprising ease. “I'm going to set this on a table in the main sleeping area and let the other grown ups know it's there, okay? I'll be right back.” she said, hauling it off.

Abellio's eyes got wide at the bowl that she returned with, his tail swishing behind him like mad. He hadn't wanted to bother her about the meal but if she got it for him anyway then it should be alright, right? A smile spread across his face before he said, "Thank you, Miss Sonia." With that he set to happily wolfing down his meal, all but purring as he did so. It had been too long since he'd had some good, raw meat, the Mara interfering when it came to their group being able to hunt. It was just dried rations which while alright were nothing compared to this! It was like Heaven he thought to himself as he ate continuously without stopping. Keona looked at him a moment before giggling, "Silly Bell." She chirped before returning to her own meal, finding it to be quite delicious, something she would have to show to her Daddy so that he could learn to make it! If they made tasty oatmeal for everyone in their group he bet that everyone would be quite happy! Well, save for those like Abellio who wanted meat... but surely they could cook that up too once the Mara were gone. Lifting one hand she waved it at Sonia when the woman said that she'd be right back. She was nice! He'd have to tell Daddy all about him she thought to herself, returning to her oatmeal. Keona had a couple more bites, looking around from side to side, taking in those around her, when she noticed something far more important then any strangers, "Ah... Daddy?" She squeaked out, slidding off of Abellio's side. "Bell! It's Daddy!" She told the Ysali Alihora before she went racing off, over to where her father was at the moment. He was coming toward them with Arjan at his side, as well as the leader of their group, Hart, and some others, "Daddy!" She cried out once she was closer, waving her hand holding the spoon in the air as she did so. Junjie looked away from the others, over toward the voice, then gave a smile, "Ahhh, Keona." He murmured, glad to see that she was not only safe but that she was in a good mood. The fact that she was waving the spoon about in the air in such a manner had him chuckling a bit, "Come on, let's go say hello." He said to the others he was walking with before he started toward the little one. Beside him Arjan rolloed his eyes, wanting to scold him and tell him he needed a nap... but there was no reasoning with him when it came to his little whelp. Maybe after he looked her over then he'd be more willing to sleep... if not Arjan would just have to sit on him.

“Awww, no problem.” she said before she left. It really was no problem – They had to find something to do with all that meat. Smoke it, maybe? Cooking it was easier to find space for. Feeding it raw to khehora was even easier. As it was, they had enough bones to make a ton of stock and gods knew what else. In other words, they had a lot of meat, and not as many Sheron as they started with. She was still getting the oatmeal settled when Junjie returned with his group – damn pot was heavier than that Sheron calf she'd had to carry that one time. Finally, she got it set up with some bowls and spoons and important things like that and was headed back to the kitchen to tidy up and figure out what was next – 'worry about my son and husband' popped into her head, but frankly, she preferred to cook. As she entered the kitchen (well, makeshift kitchen, since it was technically another tent of many that had been repurposed), Sonia realized that there were more people in it than there had been when she had left. Momentarily startled (and wondering, briefly, if she should take a rest herself) Sonia broke into a grin. “Hello!” she said cheerfully, What've we got here?”

Junjie leaned down, giving Keona a careful hug, not wanting to spill the food that she was eating, and said, "I'd pick you up, Keona, but I am a bit tired and don't want to fall on you and squish you." He gave a little smile as he said that, earning a little laugh from the girl before he pushed himself so that he was standing upright before leaning into Arjan, "It seems that she and Abellio are doing well, I am so glad." He had been worried about them, worried about what might happen were some of the Mara to get into the city... but it appeared as though things were alright. In fact seeing Keona safe and eating a meal as though everything was fine was quite a relief to him. The problem being now that he knew she was fine a feeling of being super sleepy hit him like a ton of bricks. Giving a bit of a yawn he said, "I am going to need to lay down for a nap here soon." One of those comments that got a look from Arjan that clearly read 'Oh really, you think?'. It was a look that made Junjie chuckle before he turned to face the Orderite woman who had appeared near to them and greeted them, "Ahhh, hello there Miss. I just came to get Keona and Abellio, I hope that they weren't too much trouble." Keona made a bit of a face, "I was good." She said, pointing the spoon at Abellio, "Bell was good too." She didn't want him to think that the feathery Ysali had been misbehaving, she didn't think that he had it in him to do so. Now Arjan on the other hand she thought to herself, giving a little giggle before she scooped up some oatmeal and offered it to Junjie, "Want a bite, Daddy?" Looking down at the food he heard his stomach rumble and found hunger and sleep battling it out for which one he felt that he needed to deal with first. After a moment he nodded, leaning over to take the bite of oatmeal offered to him, "Thank you, Keona, that's very tasty." He said, giving her a smile before looking at Sonia once more, "If I could get a bowl of oatmeal? As well as something for Arjan? He worked really hard during the battle. My friends as well if they are hungry?" He didn't want to leave the others without if they decided that they too were hungry after the long battle against the Mara.

“Ohh, so you're this little delight's father?” Sonia grinned, winking at Keona. “Well, then you deserve more than a bite of oatmeal. I'll get it for you.” She hoofed it back to where she had left the oatmeal, regretting – briefly – that she'd moved the pot, but seeing that there was almost a quarter less than there had been, she figured it was worth leaving it there. It would, she reckoned, be out soon enough, if the forming lines among the crowds in the shelter were any indication. Oop. She'd have to make more. She snuck a bowlful back into the kitchen and handed it to Junjie before preparing the other khehora a bowl of meat. Mm.. Meat. Perhaps she should make that next. Why not, right? She set the meat down, and pointed to the other room, “The rest of the food is that way, go help yourselfs – I gotta scramble up some more!” she said it playfully, as if it was the most fun thing ever. And she did like cooking. It was fun! “So. You're Junjie.” She put her hands on her hips and quirked an eyebrow, “So. How did my boy do? Raemos. Did he do okay out there, or did he get his silly self injured again?” She refused to worry about whether he had been more than injured. She absolutely refused.

Junjie leaned against Arjan as the bowl of food was handed to him, eating it slowly, glad for something that would be able to help him to refill his energy though he knew full well that the only thing that would really help would be a nap. How nice that sounded about now he thought to himself, his eyes sinking shut for a moment between bites of food. It was only the fact that the woman returned, giving Arjan food, that he didn't completely zone out. Forcing his eyes open he glanced over at Sonia again, giving her a smile when she announced that there would be more food on the way and that everyone should help themselves to what there was. Instantly the other members of his group were off to get in line, leaving the sleepy Junjie to work on slowly finishing up his meal. He was about half done with Sonia asked him about Raemos, "Hm? Oh, yes, the Corporal seemed to do really well, his men are loyal and his orders good ones. I hope I was able to be of help to him." There was only so much he could do, he was just one person, but if he was any help at all to Corporal Raemos and the battle against the Mara then he was happy. When she asked about his wounds he thought on it a moment then said, "I am uncertain, he didn't appear to be wounded. I told him and his men that if they needed any healing I would be glad to aid them though after I got some rest." He just hoped there was nobody seriously injured out there or, in the case there was, that there were other healers about. Keona smiled, "He looks like me!" She chirped between bites of her oatmeal, finishing it off, before she moved to put her bowl and spoon with the other dirty dishes. After that she walked over to where Arjan was eating, squating down in front of him, "Is that good meat?" The Kiandri gave her a glance then said, "It's good." Between bites, grumbling to himself when she patted him on the head. He wasn't Abellio, damn it, he didn't need to be petted! Even if it kinda felt nice, something relaxing and gentle after a hard fought battle. Not that he would ever admit it he thought to himself, finishing off what was in the bowl. Upon him finishing Keona picked up his bowl, toddling over to add it to the growling pile, "A shame that we don't know any Peisio, they would be able to help with the dishes." She commented, giving a smile before she walked over to take Abellio's bowl next, petting him on the head too. Unlike Arjan the Alihora gave a little purring sound at the petting before looking over at Junjie who seemed to be nodding off again, "You should get some rest, Jun, come on." He said, walking over, wrapping a feathery wing around the sleepy hybrid, helping him to his feet. As Abellio led him to where he could lay down Keona brought his dishes to stack them up as well, smiling at Sonia, giving her thanks, before hurrying after the rest of her family as quickly as her feet would carry her.

Orpheus Solon Forgive my piss-poor post Despite trying not to think of all the things that could have happened, Sonia was relieved to hear that he was all right. “Good.” she said. She'd probably have to check, but it was Mallew she was more worried about, to be honest... Men... “That he does!” she said, grinning at Keona, “Now go help your papa to something he can lie down on, okay? And I'll see if I can make something even better to eat than oatmeal!” Sonia waved as Keona left, and then, with a stretch, set to cooking again. ~~~ The next day saw Raemos aching a lot. A lot. The wound at his side was minor, but he was put off heavy lifting – of which there was a lot of – for the day, until they could get a healer to shore it up. He was off duty in the morning and so he took the opportunity to check on his mother and sister, travelling into the beating heart of Tukyere – that indefatigable thing that endured despite all attempts to silence it – and seeking out the hub of tents. It wasn't long before he found Vona, trying to cook in the kitchen in her mother's stead. Vona was a chef at the most basic, and so she was barely managing a few loaves of bread, and even that was difficult. Rae rushed in to help her as she nearly dropped a tray of decent fresh-baked bread, holding it off of the ground. “Careful, Vona.” She turned, startled, and wrapped her arms around him. “Raerae!” she exclaimed, squeezing him, “You're alive!” He struggled with the bread tray. “Yes, sis, I am... can you...” “Oh! Right!” she let go of him and took the tray again, setting it down before sliding another into the too-small oven. “Where's Ma?” he asked. “Sleeping. She worked really hard yesterday... But I guess so did you.” “And you, I'm sure.” said Raemos, sitting down as his side protested, “Did a Junjie Moana come by?” “I think Ma mentioned him...” Vona sat down, looking over to the other rooms of the old schoolhouse and the tent complex that had sprouted up around it. “He's probably in here somewhere... a lot of people are...”

Even a day later Junjie was still zonked out, curled up against Abellio's soft, feathery side, with his cloak laid over him like a blanket. The green, Alihora was wrapped around him from one side, Arjan on the other, leaving the pair of them standing there as a pair of Khehora walls between Junjie and everything that might try to get close to the sleeping Hybrid. They seemed to understand that they were in a safe place, one that Hybrids were allowed to be, but at the same time they had been traveling for so long in unfriendly places. It was habit for the pair of them to protect Junjie in such a way. Keona was sitting there as well, toying with a pretty staff that she as given earlier this morning by a team of people that were rewarding those who had fought in the war. Keona hadn't done so much the fact that she was small, cute, and asked to 'please have a present too' had apparently gotten her a lot way. The staff was a pretty one, made of gnarled wood with a pretty, glittering jewel in the top. She wanted nothing more then to show it to her Daddy but he was asleep at the moment... once he got up she would show him the awesome prize that she had gotten! The only one who had seen it so far was Arjan who had woke up when the people handing out prizes arrived. The Kiandri had watched them as they came by, glaring all the while, and relaxed against once they were gone, something that had Keona giggling a bit at the time. "I can't wait to show Daddy." She murmured to herself, holding the staff up, swinging it around, though carefully so as not to hit anyone, before she smiled.

“Hey. Lady?” Vona and Raemos looked up to see a Hybrid, his arms full of small packages. “You've been helpful... take one.” “What?” Vona blinked and glanced at Raemos, “Whats this?” “A present. For helping us. I gotta say, I wouldn't expect it of purebloods.” Vona took one of the packages, an eyebrow raised. “All right...” “And you, sir.” the man turned to Raemos. Raemos shook his head. “No, thank you.” he said stiffly, “Protecting the town is reward enough.” Vona grimaced at him. “Way to go, Raerae, now I feel terrible and selfish.” “I insist.” said the man, shoving a package at him. “No.” said Raemos, “If a material reward is needed...” he added, after a moment, “I was just promoted, so I think that would suffice...?” “Fine.” said the man, drawing back, “Up to you, I guess.” he moved on. “Rae, I think you just offended him.” she said, opening her package. “I couldn't accept a gift for just doing my job.” Raemos retorted, “And besides, I have everything I need. My job, my family, my...” he hesitated, surprised, “My town.” “You're such an a**.” said Vona, shaking her head. She didn't catch the creasing of her brother's brow, or the thoughtful look on his face, or pick up on his surprise that Tukyere – this city of hybrids and freaks and exiles, was now 'his' town. Admittedly, she was a little distracted. “Oh Raemos!” she said, holding up a necklace. It was metal – gold from the sheen – and positively dripped with sparkling gems and pearls. “This is magnificent!” “It is.” he said, as she clasped it around her neck, “What stones are those?” “Rubys, I think!” she said, fixing it on her neck, and grinning, “Why would anybody give this away?!” “No idea...” he squinted at her. “You look beautiful.” he remarked, “You'll have even more boys knocking down your door than usual.” “Oh, Rae.” she laughed, pushing him. He laughed, then stood. “Well, Vona, I'll leave you to admire yourself. I want to check on my friend.” She scoffed at him as he gave her a familiar pat on the shoulder and walked into the complex. Normally, in the HQ, it wasn't hard to find a particular hybrid. Hybrids were each unique, carrying a mix of traits from each parent, and so in a primarily pureblood establishment they stood out. Here, though, there was everything, and it was the purebloods that stood out... almost. Frankly, everything was different, and it was boggling to find one person among the many refugees. It was, Raemos thought, like searching for a brightly colored needle in a haystack full of brightly colored needles, plain needles, feathers, beads, and toys. Finally, though, a familiar glow-eyed face (and also familiar khehoras) stood out from the many. And he walked over. “Keona.” he greeted, bowing. He noticed that she had a very lovely staff – a gift, perhaps, from the same people that had given one to Vona? “How are you?” He would have asked where her father was, but he soon caught sight of the half-dovaa's strange horns. “And how is your father?” he asked, quieter, not wanting to rouse the man.

Keona gave pause in waving around the Staff of Luck that she had been given, turning her full attention to the one that was visiting them. Giving a bright smile she held the staff up over her head in a delightly manner, "Look what I got!" She declared happily, looking quite pleased with her new staff, "Not as cool as the one daddy has but I like it!" Her dad had a great magic staff, bigger then she was with a dragon head motif to it. It was something that she liked though she knew full well that it was a bit too big for her to wiled properly, not to mention that she didn't have the magical ability to use it the same way that her dad could. As such she was happily with the one that she had. Turning her attention to where her father was sleeping she gave a little smile, "He's sleeping still... but he's been asleep for a while. I wonder if we should wake him up so he can eat." She mused to herself, seeming as though she were debating over what she should do as far as her father was concerned. From what Abellio was saying earlier her dad had used up a lot of magical power healing the troops and dealing with the Mara, as such he was in need of sleep to get his strength back. She couldn't help but to wonder how long that would take exactly. Too long if you asked her, she was getting bored. Pushing to her feet she decided that she would make the decision herself, going over to kneel next to him, reaching out with her free hand to give him a little shake. It took a moment but Jun's brightly colored eyes slid open, looking up at Keona, before lifting a hand to stifle a yawn, "Mmm... Keona?" He murmured, sitting up slightly, his hair a bit mussed up, as he tried to figure where he was, what was going on, and how long he'd been asleep. He could tell that it had been a while, yawning again he looked between his Khehora before noticing Raemos, "Ahh, hello there Corporal Raemos." He greeted the Oblivionite, lifting a hand to give a little wave.

“Oh?” Raemos inspected the staff with exaggerated seriousness, before breaking into a small smile, unable to resist the child's infectious excitement. “I'm sure it's just as cool. Give it time.” he said, looking at her father appraisingly. Not being a healer – or anything close to a healer – himself, Raemos could only draw from experience. “Let him sleep. He'll wake when he's hungry enough.” he offered as his advice, though he chuckled quietly as she proceeded to do just the opposite. Almost automatically, Raemos slid into an at-ease position. “Hello, Mr. Moana. How are you feeling?” It was a wonder that he didn't salute the hybrid – so entrained in the Guardian structure that Raemos automatically assumed that Junjie outranked him. But Junjie had no rank. “Can I get you anything?”

Mister Moana? Now there was a title that he'd never thought that he wold end up with Junjie thought to himself as he pushed to his feet, stretching his arms out above his head, followed by stretching his many wings off in all directions. After giving them a flap he turned his attention to the one standing before him and smiled, "I am feeling much better, I really tapped myself out as far as magic is concerned. I am going to have to see to it that I get in some more practice so that I can keep myself from feeling so drained the next time I find myself needed to use so much magic." He'd been completely wiped out before but he had to admit that after some sleep that he was feeling much better. In fact he was ready to get himself moving again, though what he planned to do from this point was a toss up. He had several ideas but he just had to decide in what order he wanted to go about them. "Get me anything? That is kind of you, Corporal but I should be alright to find my own breakfast. I do thank you though." That he was offering meant a lot to Junjie who was rather used to doing things on his own save for among the hunting party that he traveled with. To have someone outside of the group he ran with offering to help him out, it was a nice change of pace. Reaching out he patted a hand lightly against each of his Khehora's heads, waking them in a gentle manner before he turned his attention to Raemos once more, "How are things looking? Are the Mara still gone?" He asked, wondering about them. The way that they had just given up made him a bit uncomfortable but the longer they stayed gone the better, it meant that everyone in this village would get a chance at rest and recovery before having to deal with anymore violence. Before he could as more though he found something shiny and bright getting waved around in his face, "Keona?" He murmured, looking down at her. The girl grinned up at him as she waved the staff around, "Isn't it pretty? I got it as a present!" She said, sounding quite excited, never having gotten a present from someone outside the group they were a part of. Junjie looked it over then smiled, "It's very pretty." He agreed before he turned to look over at Arjan who was starring at him, "Hm? Yes, yes, we will see about breakfast." He said, getting the sense that Arjan and Abellio were as hungry as he was at the moment, meaning that they had likely kept watch the whole time that he'd slept. He watched as the pair stood up before turning back to Raemos once more, "We will be going to find something for breakfast, will you be joining us, Corporal? Or are you still busy with things?"

Practice, with any craft, was essential. Magic was tricky – you could have so much of it, and then – suddenly – so little. He inclined his head politely. “Very well. And yes, they appear to have retreated, for now.” It made him uneasy, as well. “I doubt it is over, but we have a chance to prepare for their return...” And spend time with our families he thought, smiling as Keona demanded her father's attention. But that was a statement that went unsead. “I would be honored to join you for breakfast, Mister Moana.” said Raemos, who hadn't eaten “I am off shift at the moment, checking on my mother and sister. My sister, at least, appears to be all right...” he nodded at Keona, “And she has been given a gift too. It seems that Tukyere is grateful to all who helped it.” Which was very in character for the hybrid town: solidarity and altruism ruled here, though he wondered how those who were giving out gifts could afford to do so... “Also,” he said, reluctantly, “If you could make sure I have not seriously injured myself in some way...” he gestured to his stomach, “I would appreciate it...”
