Arias despised youma.

He had despised them from the first time he'd met them, and several years down the road that hdan't chnaged. The Negaverse might have a good grip on Destiny City—on the world—but Arias would hate youma, now and forever.

All he had wanted to do that evening was make a drop off. Not even to anywhere bad, but like he did every third day, he was dropping off the excess baked goods to a donation center. Not that the homeless were really even around after the Negaverse took such effort to clean up the streets.

He didn't know what had happened with the homeless, but he doubted the Negaverse had taken them in and released them with a pocket full of change a future full of opportunities.

Maybe if it hadn't been so late, if he hadn't been so tired, he would have tried to get the baked goods to the Resistance, but for now, he just wanted to go home and sleep.

Except, youma.

It didn't matter if the Negaverse had a surplus of Agents now, these brainless monsters were still wandering the streets—and one had the audacity to attack him.

At first, he had thought nothing of the eyes on his back; he had bristled but these days? Someone was almost always watching. The scurrying, though. The sound of trashcans toppling over.

And then it had come out of nowhere like a deranged beast, and chased him.

Of course he'd run—right into an empty building. Closing the door had not deterred the youma, who was scraping at the walls—and Arias was left with little choice. He had discarded the bags of sweets and breads he had been carrying, drawn in a breath, and focused.

Powering up to Newgrange had been a necessity, and he planned to be as quick as possible. Running out of the building, he was immediately aware of at least one energy signature—not friendly—and it only served to inspire him to hasten his actions.

Just get rid of the youma—just go home.

Nothing else mattered for tonight.

The youma—snarling and enthusiastic as it was—was not strong. Newgrange hardly had to hit it twice before it was dazed, and a third punch had it reeling backwards.

A fourth, and it was turned to dust.

For a second, it was invigorating. It was great to feel alive—useful again.

…But the moment was short lived; he couldn’t stay there. Being powered in the city was never a good idea, and immediately he was making an effort to escape the area before someone detected him. There were signatures too close for him to feel comfortable powering down, but he knew of a dozen places near enough that he could slip into and power down safely.

He just had to get there.

I labelled this a battle just in case, but if that's no good I can change it! Just lemme know! 8D

He'd been sent on the mission not because he was actually good at what he did (though Aurostibite was very aware of his strengths, he was also aware of his misgivings and faults, and sometimes he wished he was on a different detail other than this one), but because there was a distinct lack of volunteers, seeing as how many of the agents were out doing other things. So it had fallen to Aurostibite, and he had taken the order without question.

A "dog" of the Negaverse indeed.

There had been wind of a some rebels hiding out in a building near the news station, masquerading as a simple convenience store. This lead turned out to go nowhere, however; from what Aurostibite could see, the store was just that - a store - and for all the hours he spent watching it, he could have been elsewhere.

Like with Mintaka, whom he was trying desperately not to think too much about (though of course that was failing miserably, considering that she was all he ever thought about these days: work and Mintaka). Aurostibite was greatly irritated at this severe waste of his time, and the evidence of this was written clearly on his face.

He moved to a different street and heard it before he felt it - something smashing into something else, a clatter of metal, and then an energy signature washed over him, Order-oriented, from just a short distance away. Aurostibite wheeled around and reversed directions, instead pelting towards the origin of the signature.

He was up there; not a senshi, from the looks of it, but a knight, and Aurostibite eyed him warily before leaping nimbly down behind him, his booted feet thudding gently onto the sidewalk. He pushed the brim of his hat a little higher on his head.

"Going somewhere?"

The voice would have been enough to stop Newgrange, even if the energy signature wasn't. A youma was enough for him to deal with tonight—he didn't need a General, too. Quickly, his eyes skimmed the face of the man, taking in what detail he could. He wasn't familiar with him, but that wasn't surprising; there were so many amongst the Negaverse's ranks that he just couldn't keep up.

"Ideally," he replied slowly, trying to assess what type of agent this was.

Of course, he'd been surprised by some—those who seemed against the Negaverse even while practicing their law, who had only half assed their orders to destroy all order. Or, even more surprising, were the Agents who not only let him leave, but who made sure he did. Safely.

And then there were the ones like Painite, and Newgrange bristled even just thinking about her.

"You really ought to keep a better leash on your youma. If you're trying to keep the public in the dark about what you're really up to, it might help if your youma weren't so intent on tearing the place up. Or attacking people who were otherwise just minding their own business. I don't suppose it's improving morale to have to clean civilians to clean up off the street after the youma have gotten to them?"

Talking was good. It meant you weren't fighting.

But Newgrange had few delusions; he might have been running his mouth, but he was trying to pick an escape route.
