Years. It had been several years since he had looked at the city as more than just a place he was a visitor of. His occasional visits, both personal and business had been short, spaced, and he'd removed himself from the urges to patrol, to fight. His planet was his home, his life was in Italy, he had left Destiny City to live in a land that was not so overrun with chaos. And now he'd returned. He'd felt the shifts, felt the losses, even with an ocean separating himself and the hub of order and chaos energies. He'd felt her corruption. He'd felt the end of the dream and a wish that the cauldron could not grant in this lifetime. His brother kept him informed, kept him mildly aware; Contacts kept open he knew the shifts had changed yet- He walked alone on the street, avoiding the park and it's memories- things had not changed. They were still at war. It wasn't something required, but yet it was something like formality. She was the eldest of those who'd come into their power, she was the one who could claim the blood of surrounding- the blood that tied to the white moon and by extension to earth. There was no grand exclamation of his henshin. No posturing as he waited near what had once been Barren Pines. There was only a pulse of energy directed at one person- at one royal. Castor sought Chronos.

She hadn't been back in Destiny City for quite a while too, though it wasn't as long as compared to the... leave of absence the Xanis brothers had took. Serenade Soriano had always wondered if it was a decision she should have made; a decision to attend college in New York, essentially leaving her duties behind in the city she had grown up in.
While it was a busy life there for a music major, it was also relatively peaceful. New York was full of skyscrapers and busy streets, but certainly lacked even the slightest whiff of Chaos. A part of her had wanted to stay there forever and forget everything; the part of her that was a Princess and therefore had an obligation attached to her title.
But she could not.
There was an everlasting pull, a longing to be where she should be. And when summer break came, it was easy enough to make the decision to return back home. Even if it was for a few months, it was something.
She had henshined up many a time in NYC to take trips to the Surrounding, but it certainly felt different when she did it in Destiny City. It was a wave of overwhelming familiarity that washed over her; the pinpricks in her mind that signified those of her Court, and the other auras pulsing distantly around.
But one in particular stood up, and Chronos found herself wondering if she was mistaken.
She sent a quick text to Flora-- after all, Eve Summers had been close with the brothers-- before heading off, keeping away from any auras as much as she possibly could. Even if she wasn't in full princess form, her aura was still a magnet for anyone dangerous that might be lurking about.
She recognized the route up the hill, to the place she had paid respects to every anniversary of the day they had died. And near those ruins was him, a Prince she hadn't seen in forever.
Castor.
Her lips parted slightly in surprise as she regarded him with wide cerise eyes, not entirely sure what to say. But her moment of silence was broken by the sound of running footsteps behind her, and she turned to see Flora, chest heaving huffily as she glared at the prince. "I..." She panted out, "I don't believe it!"
Eternal Sailor Flora bit back an urge to yell out the name Elzo Xanis, and instead stormed up to the man (not before giving Chronos a very quick curtsy) and punched him right in the arm with a scowl. "Oh!" She said indignantly. "So you're not a ghost! Why are you back being all sneaky like, huh? I thought I'd have to fly to Italy to see you two again --wait he didn't tell me you guys were coming back either. Or did you come back alone? Is Pollux here? Why didn't you tell us; I mean we could have gone to the airport, and not even a text or email to say hi we're coming back, I mean, come on!" It seemed as though she had finished this tirade, and Flora ended it with squeezing him with a hug.
"I'm glad you're back, dummy." She said gruffly.
"It's good to see you again, Prince Castor." Chronos said politely behind her, a small smile hiding her amusement at her handmaiden's reaction.

It was odd to get back into feeling out energies- to go from nothing to being acutely aware of just what and who was around. He'd had energies pinging his senses like wildfire in a way- part of him screaming to go and find them, to assist, to fight- but he couldn't.
House calls came first.
The sight of both Chronos and her ever present maiden was welcomed with a smile, if a slightly melancholy one.
"Well, believe it." He joked, rubbing his arm where she'd hit him. It stung in that way that was almost pleasurable. The action reminiscent of the past- something he'd missed. He'd missed Flora's scoldings. He'd missed her way of being angry but not with him yet worried all the same. Her voice laced with that concern and yet fury at his actions or words. He'd missed her, and before he could stop himself, Castor had returned her hug with a small and short embrace of his own.
"It's good to see you again Flora." Letting her go, the senshi turned to the zodiac royal, momentarily standing straight and proud before bowing. "And you Chronos. As for your questions-" He reached out, flicking Flora's bow.
"I've been missing for four years- the more who know I'm back, the less chance I have of catching chaos off guard. I would have contacted you as a civ, but as I didn't know the situation I felt it better to come directly. Pollux is covering the more civilian side of things for us. For all intents and purposes, I've been a near figment as a civ while working on Castor." He held out his arm, gashes scarring him up and down. "Beetles took up residence in the capitol's cathedral. Been having to route them for the last 3 months." He sighed. The things he did to preserve the few places of his homeland that had withstood the test of time.
"But that's not why I hoped to call you out here- Your highness." He motioned for her to walk with him onto the grounds, knowing full well what they symbolized.
".... I need to talk with you. As one royal to another, about my plan of action... and what it might very well mean for you and those of your court." It was not the beginnings of a good conversation.

The initial flare of anger she had upon seeing him again, after all these years, quickly melted away as he returned the hug. They had known each other for a long time, even before she had awakened as a Senshi, in her days in Crystal Academy through some relatively bizarre events that had resulted in some embarrassment on the brothers' part. And in time, Eve had grown to care for them in an utterly platonic way, as if they were psuedo siblings.
Yet as she drew back from him to allow him to greet her princess, her lips were pursed, entirely unsure if she should be smiling or not. Of course she was glad he was here! But his presence also gave her a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. He was back to throw himself into danger yet again, and though Flora knew it was their duty to do so, she also remembered the bounty that had been placed upon Castor's head in the past due to his relationship with Linarite.
But Flora did not want to dredge up old awful memories, and at least he had planned not to announce his return to the masses just yet. Instead, she let her princess converse with him, only wrinkling her nose slightly as she noticed the injuries upon his arms.
"I understand." Chronos said gently. "I myself have not been around much of late, due to... Academic matters, and have only been making regular visits to the Surrounding. I do hope the infestation on Castor has been solved? I could lend a hand if need be."
She fell into step besides him, her countenance grim. " I see. What is this plan you have in mind, Castor?" There was a reason why he had chosen this very place to meet her, after all.
While trailing behind the two, Flora whipped out her cellphone and sent a flurry of texts to Pollux.
"i know u two are back >:T"
"thanks for the surprise gosh"
"u owe me a meal, u rudey pants!!!"
"does this mean you'll stop sending me flowers"
...In retrospect, perhaps it would be more effective to text his civilian cellphone instead. Oh well. She could easily spam both!

Flora was one of the few who kept the brother grounded, who in spite of everything, could and would stand up to them to remind them of their flaws, and who would not request but demand their attention to her words in feelings. It was not something born of fear or power or rank, but rather of friendship and that sort of platonic love one holds for someone dear to them. Her texts were met with mild amusement from the senshi of Hail who couldn't help but notice her and the senshi of frost, who naturally, was left to feel mildly guilty because of course, Flora was indeed, right. 'you're welcome' 'and I'm sorry' 'i have never stopped sending you flowers and I certainly won't stop now' 'Thai, Italian, Greek- pick a cuisine and I'll cook us a dinner. I promise it'll be better than any restaurant' Castor just turned his attention to Chronos, smiling. "Ha, it's fine really. The beetles are just... difficult. My crystal is one of the few things that can herd them and I'd rather take it slowly and safely than try to charge and evict them or have someone help only to see them get hurt." He pat the marks on his arm fondly. "Besides, used to be you weren't a man till you had a few beetle scars. It's about time I got a few of my own." It was a divergent from the actual conversation, the one he needed to have. The grounds of the fallen 'school' cast a grim shadow and reminder- that not everything was what it might appear to be, that often, death would be the inevitable for those caught in a war they knew nothing of. "....Things haven't improved since I've been gone Chronos. Arguably, they've gotten worse." He kept his voice even, careful to not to imply that it was somehow her fault. "I felt them take her back; Her grove has fallen silent again." It wasn't hard to guess of who Castor spoke of. "Pollux kept me updated with the stories, with what information he could- and when I got back a while ago I had hoped I was wrong, that it was just exaggerations... but Chaos is thick here Chronos. It would be a lie to say that there is balance." He kept walking, trying to pick his words carefully. "...." Trying to find the best was to describe what he felt he had to do. "Castor was an empire Chronos. I was born to command and lead my people to war- to claim and establish dominance in the cosmos. If I found Chaos I was bound by my duty to eradicate it. To go to war, and take back that which had been lost to Order." He stopped to face her. "In four years, Chaos has not been pushed back, but rather it has become stronger." He took a deep breath. "I swore alliance a lifetime ago to Mercury but she is no more, and so the allegiance of Castor to the white moon has dissolved with her death and lack of presence. Now, I find myself in a very conflicting place. Earth is without it's ruling family, and the closest one who may lay a claim is you Chronos. I have never sought to establish rule amongst the white moon court, and I do not seek that now." He looked a Flora, whatever happiness on his face fading and replace by a profound sadness. "But under the circumstances, I cannot sit by and say nothing. I cannot claim to be an ally of a world that is slowly being consumed from within." He hoped she would understand. "I plan to do as is my duty Chronos. What has transpired here- It is not fault I place upon you, but rather acknowledgement that if anyone should have the right to object to what I plan to do lies at your door, because what I say is not something I can ever take back, nor, something I take lightly for all it's implications." He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He did not wish to do this, he dearly wish it could be avoided- yet he felt the darkness within the darkness. Chaos would not stop it's conquest of earth, not even if it's peoples were all dead and gone. "The Dioskouri plan to declare war upon Earth." Castor would not be acting alone. They had never acted alone.

It was difficult to hide a smile when Chronos and Castor were evidently discussing serious business, and Flora had to bite her lip as she texted Pollux back.
"well ur dumb!!!!"
"i guess as long as i still get flowers..."
"you'll be properly forgiven after the meal"
"omg wow ur cooking rly"
"it better be!!!"
Chronos dipped her head in acknowledgment. "If you can manage." It was not her place to intrude, especially when it was his homeworld they were talking about. And she understood that desire to rebuild the ashes of what they once called home with their own two hands, because it had been their sworn duty alone to their homeworld.
"From what I know, they have gotten... stealthier." She admitted with a sigh, biting her lip at the mention of a re-corruption. Behind them, Flora stiffened slightly, brows knitting in worry, but chose to say nothing once again.
Chronos too, remained eerily silent and impassive as Castor continued, though as he went on, she found herself growing more and more perturbed. And this... this was what he was leading up to...?
"Excuse me?" Flora finally said, indignance lacing her voice as she finally tore her eyes away from her phone. "Dios core what now?" She would have demanded an explanation had not Chronos held up a hand, lips tight.
"You're not the only one that had a duty to eradicate Chaos, Castor." The Princess said, the pride in her court and past memories of battle embittering her words. "The Zodiac Guard held the line on the edge of the Surrounding. It was our sworn duty and allegiance to keep Chaos out of the Sol System as much as we possibly could, and there were more battles upon there, more bloodshed than you would have ever seen back in those ancient times."
She took a deep breath in an effort to calm herself, and expelled a sigh. When she spoke again, her voice was softer, and a tad gentler. "I have never intended to lay claim to Earth, Castor. My relation is to Serenity, not Endymion, and it is to her I stay loyal to. It is to her that the White Moon Senshi as a majority are loyal to, and I am but merely an outsider, even if I hold a royal rank."
"... And you would do well to remember that, Prince Castor. I bear no ill will to you when I say that I do not think this plan of yours is not one I can readily accept. I know you have good intentions, but do you intend to take on the Senshi or Knights who may oppose you in this endeavor? Do you honestly think it is a good idea to wage war upon Earth and turn the people against us?"

"Dioskouri." He repeated for Flora. "It is the forces of Castor and Pollux acting as one. It's more... a formality really." He rubbed the back of his neck. His shoulders slouched and walking to a fallen bit of concrete, he sat himself down, hands folding into themselves, head and eyes low. "I wish I could say I know- but the truth is I recall little of white moon. My past was spent going world to world, fighting, and returning home as either victor or honored champion. I was never a failure, the faith of my people in me was absolute. To lose a war was to do so because we were not strong enough.. and even in this life, I personally don't enjoy losing a war." "I'm sorry if I offended you Chronos- but the fact is we, the senshi, are losing this war. The balance is tipping back and forth, and I do not think it tips in our favor. Can you tell me, with certainty, that for each one they take from us, another is born?" It was something no one person could answer perhaps but cosmos herself. "In war, nothing is certain. I allowed myself the ideal that perhaps I could live a life with some small happiness and I have found the truth of that lesson hard and cruel in it's reality." His fingers tightened, clenching. "Many of the senshi are loyal to the white moon- who do have loyalty to Earth. There are Knights, but even they are of divided loyalties. When we go to war it is not our intent to seek battle or war with them- but those who have taken earth as their own. This is not something that can be easily said because they are a part of Earth. War is war. If I openly make known that my alliance with white moon has dissolved, that alone is a cause for war. So here lies the problem we face." He looked up at her. "We will have to declare war sooner or later Chronos. The longer we delay, they more risks we run by saying nothing, by acting behind a curtain we hide the facts that are before us. Earth is being consumed by Chaos, and if we make our declaration now over later inevitably, the outcome will be the same. If it means that we must fight senshi or knights who would try to stop us from our goals to eradicate the blight that plagues Earth-" There was a flicker of something in his gaze, the knowledge, the threat, the understanding of just who he was speaking to and what he was saying- and very well, what it might mean for them all, "-we will kill them."

"You have no idea what war was like, back then." In contrast, Chronos remembered much of her past. Perhaps some parts were still hazy, but she remembered enough.
"The war upon the Surrounding is beyond what you can imagine, beyond... your games of brawls for glory. My guardian cat was attached to me when I was born. Zue taught me everything I had to know about my duties when I was just a child. I watched as my mother, the Queen, left the castle to fight against those monsters because it was her duty and returned with injuries and scars. I was officially awakened when I was eight. My court had all been summoned around that tender young age too, Castor, and we were all well aware of what lay before us. We all had to watch," Her voice cracked slightly, "as our predecessors taught us all they could, and went out to war, and every battle, we feared they would not return. I was fifteen when my mother died, and she was the last of her Court to perish in battle." She could not help but have the story of her past; the past of the Zodiac Court, spill out from her lips. Not when he assumed he knew exactly what war was.
"We did not go to war for honor and glory. We did not go to war to prove our strength. We went to war because we held the line, and Chaos had crossed it. We went to war because we had no choice. We went to war because we wanted to protect what we held dear, and for that reason, we fought. It is for that same reason that remains our cause."
"I have loved... and lost too, Castor." She reminded him somberly. Eon. Aries. Sagittarius. Cancer. And it had been a few weeks that she had thought she had lost Virgo and Leo as well. Her heart had been wounded numerous times, and the scars would never fade. "I... once thought I could spill blood in revenge, and be ruthless because they had taken so much from me. But you know as well as I do, or perhaps even better, that Chaos corrupts their will."
"But what's worse is that you would contemplate waging war against your kind. I will not fight against anyone that is of our side. I will not kill anyone that is of our side, not when they live to protect. I will not sacrifice their lives, because they are not ours to sacrifice. Because they are good people."
"Let me make this absolutely clear right now." When Chronos had first met Castor this night, she had no idea that she would be saying these words, but it was something she could not hold back. "If you stand against the White Moon, you stand against me." Her stance was resolute, and her posture rigid.
"Would you kill us?" Flora asked softly, arms crossed over her chest. Being caught between a friend and her princess, she had not known what to feel as she listened to the both of them.
In the very end, her loyalty and her agreement with her Princess' words won out, but still, she hoped that perhaps, they could convince him to see what a foolish idea this was.

A single text to Flora- '3 course meal with flowers- as I expect we'll have a lot to discuss.' He listened. He listened not because he had to, but because he wanted to. He wanted to understand, he wanted to know what was it that they had faced. What they would face for eternity. He was silent. He was unmoving. All that he did was breathe and stare at the pair of them before closing his eyes. "You're wrong Chronos." His eyes opened, dead, cold, and lacking. Something had died in Castor. How long ago it had died was anyone's guess, but something that had once lived in him had died, and left behind something grotesque in it's place. "They are murderers. They are sadists. They are vengeance and hatred and they are white moon. Protecting what? Who? How many would leave strangers to die, just to save themselves? How many would justify and claim they are only 'protecting' others when they hunt down and murder children? There is good in them, but that does not make them good." He stood, staring still at the Princess and her protector. "I am not good Chronos." His gaze shifted back to the remains of Barren Pines. "I am what they fear. I am a murderer. I am an invader. I am a senshi." Hope had died, and it had left behind hatred so deep, it had consumed a part of him. "And I will kill anyone who will try and stop me from destroying those who would harbor Chaos." And there in his eyes, was nothing left of the man that had once promised to save the world. "Including you."

To Chronos, it did not seem as though Castor was taking her words to heart. He did not understand the point of her tirade; he thought he knew war was and based it on what vague memories he could remember of his past. But that was not war, and he had never experienced what war was like on the edge of the Surrounding.
"I thought you were." She answered softly, her face hardening. Perhaps some had never thought as Castor as a particularly reliable prince, but she had considered him an ally and a friend. And perhaps he had been impetuous, but she had believed that he was a good man.
Up until now. "I see now that the purpose of this visit was merely a courtesy call, and not a pleasant welcome like I originally thought." Princess Chronos' voice was cold as she regarded him with narrowed eyes. Perhaps she had been a bit harsh and defensive with her words; to her, saying that Castor had experienced war in the past was insinuating that the Zodiac Court had not done a good job in keeping the Chaos monsters out, at least until their untimely death. But it did not excuse his rigid stance and belief that this was the only way to move forward, and it was an insult to meet her here at Barren Pines to say this.
Was he trying to justify his actions by bringing back one of her worst memories that the Negaverse had put her through? But the ends did not justify the means, and Chronos could never be despicable enough to create yet another Barren Pines, even if it was to trap her enemies.
There had been innocents in their midst. It was not just the Zodiac Court that had suffered through the events in the accursed school. It was the innocents that she remembered as well, with pain in her heart, because they had done nothing to deserve this, only that they had been at the wrong place at the wrong time.
"I see there is nothing I can say to convince you otherwise." He was no longer the Castor she had known, the Castor she had been happy to welcome back. "And there is nothing you can say to convince me that what you are planning to do is right. I bid you a good night, Prince Castor." And with that, Princess Chronos bowed her head slightly and swept away, heels clicking on the pavement.
And even though Flora had every intention of following her Princess, with the thought of begging her to give her some time to talk to both the brothers and to hopefully stop this madness, she found herself lingering back, staring at Castor with blue eyes bright with unshed tears.
Her blood had run absolutely cold while listening to Castor speak. He was no longer the daredevil Elzo Xanis she knew, that had snuck into the Crystal dorms with his brother to raid underwear drawers. Not the flirtatious senshi she had met and planted a kiss on her, before realizing that he had done so to a friend. Not the man that had loved Linarite so much that he eventually won her over to the side of Order, even if it had been brief.
"You don't have to do this." She breathed, casting a nervous glance at her Princess' retreating back. "Please... don't." Her mind was in a flurry, and she desperately wished that this had all been a bad dream.
She even wished that he had never come back to Destiny City.

He offered no apologies, no considerations, no alternatives, nothing. He had drawn a line in the sand and refused to cross it. Black and white, stubborn and prideful. These had not changed. Everything else had. His gaze moving to Flora, Castor's cold glare did not falter or soften, he only walked toward her, hands firmly clenched at his sides. Warm had utterly left him, leaving him cold and empty. "The senshi had nearly three years to cleanse this city Flora. As far as I can tell they have done nothing to tip the scales." He stared her down. "I will give the negaverse what it's wanted since the day I henshined under Hillworth." He smiled. "One month and then I will give them war." Conversation had died. There was nothing to talk of anymore, only to say. And his part said there was no reason to remain. He just kept that illusion of a smile as he walked, turning both his back on Flora, and the evidence of the cost that war would bring. Melodine Cantus god bless u mel i am sorry but umg feelings
