Camelot had just returned from a trip to his Wonder, to check on the prisoners he was keeping there. He got very little information out of them today, but he was talking to them and at least they were beginning to speak to him without the usual swears and threats. His hope was that he might not have to hurt them, and maybe they could be purified, but it was a slow and uncertain process that took up a lot of his time, which he could not really afford with everything else he had going on.

But he had to make time for it, regardless, because he just could not lose his grasp on his morals. Not yet. At least not completely.

It was hard to weigh the costs. The pros and the cons. He knew that purification was an option, but taking the time to convince the Negaverse of that, one at a time, was incredibly difficult. They could not simply force them to purify, it had to be their choice. An issue the Negaverse did not have to face. Beyond that, there were so many corrupted now, and the numbers continued to grow. The only real way to combat them effectively was through violence.

Death.

Camelot tried not to condone killing, but even he had killed his share of the Negaverse since the war shifted. He had seen so many of his people die, and he had lost his own son to their forcible corruption. All he really wanted to do was see the Nega responsible die, so no one else would ever lose anything to her again. Not only had she stolen his son, she had killed his dog and his step daughter. She was a monster, and deserved nothing short of death.

So where was the line? If he had the chance, would he offer her the same chance at Purification as the others? Or was she the one that would not deserve it? The one that pushed him too far.

He was sitting in his chair at the Headquarters, in front of a drafting table he had taken out of the library before it was closed down. That, his personal things from his office, and most of his book collection had been all that he could get out of there. The books were now in Camelot, but this table and his office supplies were here, where he could use them for work. He stared at a picture of his complete family, which was mostly all gone now. He only had his baby daughter, six years old and raised almost entirely in this horror, and his wife.

He needed to make more decisions, take charge and make something happen. Whether that was taking down more Negaverse soldiers permanently or not, he was just not sure.

Chronos too, had lost so very much that she wasn't sure if she would pursue revenge or purification any longer.

Even before the existence of the Resistance was needed, she had already suffered many internal scars that were forever etched on her heart. Her own death, the loss of people that had been most dear to her; it seemed as though her fears that the Space Cauldron was reclaiming them all one by one despite Eon's bargain was coming true. There was not a night that she did not either weep herself to sleep, or jolt awake with tears streaming down her face.

She could not remember the last time she had a peaceful rest. And she did not think it possible that she could ever heal, not when maman was still unconscious and silent in her hospital bed. Not when she was starting to wonder if she should consider taking maman off life support, not knowing if it would be best to let maman die and be buried besides papa.

She struggled to even keep herself standing, reminding herself that her position in the Guard was important because she held the Opal Crystal. Because she had to protect, and thus she had to be physically strong enough to hold the line.

Chronos was early to be reporting for her duty today, as she always was. After all, she had to travel from the city, and she did so hate being late. Serenade still lived within the confines of DC because maman had been hospitalized in one of Destiny City's hospitals upon the "accident", and it was way too risky to arrange her to be moved out without arousing suspicion.

Upon entering, she caught sight of a familiar figure, which gave her comfort. Thank Serenity, he is still alive. It was a constant sentence that went through her mind whenever she met up with someone she knew; she was always on tenterhooks that more would be taken away.

"How are you, Camelot?" She greeted him with a wan smile.

Camelot looked up when he heard someone speak to him. He did not pay much attention to auras around here, as there were always White Moon auras moving back and forth, and trying to keep track of people that way would just give him a head ache. He was not ignoring anything, though, as he kept his senses peeled for anything that was not supposed to be there. Chaos orders, of course, would set off all his internal alarms.

When he did glance up to see who it was, though, he hurried to get to his feet. He offered her a very polite and gallant bow, closing his eyes and smiling warmly as he did so. He felt a little silly, but that was a comforting feeling. He always had liked showing Princesses the respect they deserved, and had adopted this habit years ago. Now it was a very important part of his character, and it made him feel very comfortable.

Like there were still things that had not changed. And that gave him a small dose of hope, in a silly and odd way.

"Princess Chronos," he said, straightening up and smiling at her gently, looking older and more haggard, but honestly glad to see her. "I'm doing alright. The best I can, anyway. How about you? Are you alright, in the city?" He assumed that was where she was, if she wasn't in the Headquarters. He knew there were a few other safe places, though, and tried to visit when he could, though his time was often filled up.

"It's very good to see you, it really is."

You don't have to be so formal with me. But she did not voice her thoughts, for she had known Camelot long enough to acknowledge it was simply a habit he was certainly not going to kick anytime soon. It was a part of him, and if he did not do so, she would question if he had been controlled by body-snatching aliens. Or, if somehow, Chaos managed to be able to puppet bodies.

It was a strange thought to have, and Chronos simply brushed it away as she returned his bow with a curtsy of her own.

"I am glad." She said, returning his smile with a soft one of her own. "I am as well as I can be." Sometimes it felt like she was taking care of herself as if she was a machine; she kept her engine running just so that she could do her duty. "I am fine in the city, yes. They don't exactly pay much attention to a simple piano teacher." It seemed like a long time ago that she had aspired to be a concert pianist, and she had gotten so close to that dream before it had shattered.

"How is your little girl?" Even as her heart went out to the children that lived in headquarters; she could not imagine having to grow up and live in such a situation, family members were always a small comfort to those who were members of the resistance.

Camelot nodded his head, though his warm look wavered a bit as she asked him about his family.

"She's alright. Adjusting. She's still very young, but moving her out of the city was hard on us all. And she's lost her brother and sister..."

It was hard to talk about, knowing that his daughter would never know her half brother and her half sister. Camelot's son, Nathan, or rather Sailor Chaonis, had been forcibly corrupted into the Negaverse and no longer knew his family save as targets. Kyndall, Camelot's step daughter, had been killed in the cross fire of a large battle. Neither death had been easy on the parents, and they were both fresh enough to weigh heavy on Camelot's mind. And though Chaonis was not truly dead, he did know that his son was gone.

Though he did have a small hope that maybe a princess, like Chronos, could help him.

"Sarah does like to go to Camelot, though, and she's got her dog, Gizmo, to look after her. She's a very good kid, and I'm hoping we can keep her safe. I ah... I wanted to ask you about my son, Chaonis... he was corrupted."

"She is safer here." Chronos agreed somberly. She knew all too well of the horrors and casualties that had been inflicted on many of their faction, and Chaos would show no mercy even if their relatives were innocent of being "terrorists". And if they managed to get their hands on one of the children that lived here, in the Headquarters... she could not bear to think of what would happen.

"That's good." She knew firsthand how horrible it was to be one so young and having lost so much, and at the very least, Camelot's daughter still had her parents and her dog.

Of course, it didn't make up for the losses she had suffered. It never would, but it was a small glimpse of hope, of one little thing to be grateful for.

Her breath caught at the mention of a corruption, and the Princess took a seat in front of him. The defection of their kind always twisted her heart with pain, even if she knew that it had not been the fault of those who had fallen. "I am sorry for your loss." Even if he was not dead, Chaos had now warped him and turned him against his family. "...What is it you want to ask me?"

"Well. I know it's possible to purify someone that's been corrupted. It's not easy, no doubt for the one doing it, or the one experiencing, but I know that it can be done. Or.. well. I was hoping that it could. Chaonis was taken from us, against his will. I just... I can't imagine that... I suppose I don't want to believe he's gone forever."

He shook his head, knowing his thoughts were getting away from him and he was prone to babbling when that happened. He was going to look very stupid if he lapsed into letting his thoughts take over, so he tried to put what he wanted to say in some kind of order before he spoke again.

It took him a moment, eyes closed and a slow breath, but he managed.

"I was hoping to find out how we might go about purifying him, if it were possible. I can't do it, I can only purify the negaverse into knights. And it must be his choice, I know, and I have no evidence that he would want to return... I just have to believe that he's still in there, somewhere. And if we can convince him..."
