Jude was doing his usual thing, lurking around.

He'd done a couple of duties here and there, peeked in on meetings but didn't give much input and just generally was easing himself into a more active role into being a Hunter. Right now? He considered himself on break.

In a hallway he sat with his back against a wall, with a book open on his lap and a set of reading glasses riding low on his face as he glanced at the page. It was a newer book, something he'd gotten a Christmas or two ago. He was finally checking it out.

Just like he was finally not being a lump...

Sort of.

Well, she'd said she would do it as soon as she could, and of course a million things had gotten in the way, but it was about time Maebe honored a promise she'd made. So when she stopped in the hallway after realizing Jude was just sitting in it, Maebe decided to man up and take advantage of this coincidence.

By sitting directly on her target.

"Hello." She greeted her chair, turning into a lump of her own on top of him.

He was almost done reading the page he was on when he was suddenly invaded by a Maebe shaped figure. Invaded was probably a good word for how he felt, though he didn't move to shove her off either.

Was it rude? Was it ruder to let her sit there? Whatever. He moved to make sure she wasn't obstructing the book as much, but still kept her seated on him so he could finish the sentence he was reading and then he snapped the book closed.

"Hi. I don't know if you realize this but uh...I was here first," He retorted to her greeting.

"Yeah, but I was here second, and two is more than one." She tossed her infallible logic at him, and curled up into a ball, laying her head on his chest. "I have to talk to you about something. Can you tear yourself away from the exciting activity of reading a book alone in a hallway for a minute so I can lay some news on you?"

"I call bullshit." Is all he said in response to this perfect logic. That was all he could do with it for now seeing as she proceeded to make herself comfortable and ask if he could make time for her. He let out a deep sigh as if she was asking a huge favor of him as he set the book down off to the side, "Yeah, sure. What is it you need to lay on me, Mae?"

There was a second before he added, "If it is something I supposedly did? I didn't do it, I was asleep at the time."

Almost cautiously he gave Maebe a brief little hug, a simple show of acceptance of her invasion of his personal bubble.

She liked being accepted into Jude's personal bubble, because it was a very strong bubble made of hard water and soap. Unpoppable at it's finest.

"Not out here. Somewhere less in-the-public-hallway. Your place or mine?"

She still hadn't gotten off of him, and she accepted his hug with one of her own - except it wasn't so much of a hug as much as an unsubtle request to be carried around.

"Guess it don't matter whose place it is if it is a talk you need," He said simply, with no real insinuation behind it otherwise. He just quietly gathered the book and pocketed it somewhere on his coat and started to get up. His arms wound around her to hold her securely, "You're lucky I like you," Jude said as he picked up on her not so subtle hint of wanting to be carried.

"Otherwise I'd make your lazy a** walk," he yawned as he started heading toward the rooms.

"You'd think for as long as I've been here, I'd have an apartment or some s**t," he laughed a little.

Being an underachiever is funny, right?

Maebe bounced like a baby boy in his arms, and then settled in to be carried away like the princess she was. "I am pretty lucky, I guess." She admitted, in too serious of a mood to make some sarcastic joke about how he was the lucky one. Because she was going to need as much of him in good spirits as she could muster, now.

"Apartments are under-rated," She informed him. "I have a standing invite to go live with my boyfriend and girlfriend up in their apartment and I'm like, hey, this dorm is pretty sweet, let's not get crazy now."

Even though she joked freely about it, the idea was starting to make her heart pang to think about. But this wasn't about her, and her petty problems. This was about Jude, and Otto.

"Are we there yet?"

"I dunno. Havin' your own little place to do s**t in that's bigger than a postage stamp is pretty nice, too. Don't knock it." Also? Private bathrooms were pretty sweet.

No more looking at other junk.

...That was plenty of motivation to get promoted. Not that he spoke up on the matter. He was too busy carrying Maebe around and not dropping her. "We'll get there when we get there. If you think the ride is slow then get off," he informed her with a small grin.

It didn't take much longer after that comment that they came to his room with the door slightly open, he simply bumped it open the rest of the way with the side of his hip, "Here we are."

She didn't argue, because he was right - and she was starting to wish she hadn't been so stubborn about it. She got the feeling that she was too late to second guess her choices, either. She'd made her bed. Now she laid in it, alone.

"I can't get off with you, Jude. It would ruin our friendship." She said this with a complete straight face, as if stating a very boring fact. But they were at his room, and she did in fact hop out of his arms and head inside.

"How long until you think you'll be getting an upgrade?" She asked him curiously.

"Or improve it," he said back at her equally deadpan. If she wanted to fluster him, it was too late. Others had their hooks in him for far too long and he was starting to flower into some sort of apathetic pervert with no shame.

A terrible combination.

With her out of his arms he turned and closed the door and went to slip off his jacket, "A long while, probably. I've been slacking, Mae. I've been here for quite a few years."

There was no sugarcoating his admission. It simply was. He moved to seat himself onto the chair at his desk crossing his arms over his chest, "Feel free to sit on the bed, or stand .. or whatever you need to do before you tell me what was so important to let me know."

"No, definitely ruin it, because one or both of us would be dead." She finally grinned, a little proud to know that it wasn't just Jude who had someone willing to fight for him, anymore. She appreciated that he was becoming more comfortable making dirty jokes, however, and hoped that trend was going to stick - at least they'd have more in common.

Speaking of how much they had in common.. "Slacking is my middle name. So fine, you and me will just never get to full Hunter ever, and just lie there and watch the world go by." If it really had been just the two of them, that might have been all in store - apathy loved company.

She moved to sit on the bed, bounced just once, and took a deep breath. "Okay. I guess. I'll just say it then. So, you know how Deus is kind of incestual? Like, how too many people are related to each other?"

"Only if we blabbed," he retorted simply with no intention of following through. He was too loyal to do such a thing, but it was easy to joke when it was just two people making empty promises at each other that will never occur. It was easy and safe.

There was a thoughtful hum and he shook his head, "Nah. No matter how we fight it we'll probably get promoted just so they can send us on harder missions and finally kill us off," he said in a bleak sort of manner, "I wouldn't put it past them, anyways."

He was way passed being surprised at anything that happened anymore.

"Mmm... Yeah. It seems kinda weird." He shrugged, the thought had him sort of squint over at Maebe for a moment as if he was trying to guess at her news just then. "If you are my long lost twin, then that makes our earlier jokes rather taboo."

"No, we're not related. It's okay, you can safely bang me." She pushed back and laid down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. Even her jokes were coming out flatter and lamer because of the heaviness of the actual topic that weighed on her mind.

"But you are related to someone. And I thought you might want to know." Her head turned, just slightly. "Do you?"

"Excellent. That is totally one worry off of my mind." He returned back at her. As long as Jude felt alright he was open to waiting for however long it took her to drop the news.

There was a pause at that question. It was a loaded one. It was a question that rolled about inside of his head, making itself comfortable, "Ah...Hm..." She'd managed to knock his train of thought completely off the tracks.

Would it be nice to know he had family around? What if they were like his father? He hated his father. Maybe they were pleasant and friendly like his Mother? He loved his mother. Then again it never bothered him to know before Maebe came to talk to him, why now?

There was a shift in his seat.

"As long as it isn't you ******** with me, then sure. I guess I don't see why it should be kept secret," he said finally. He didn't want paperwork - paperwork can lie. He also didn't want to see any certificates on the matter either. Jude just simply trusted nothing and yet he was all too willing to trust whatever Maebe said.

Priorities.
