It was still a new change for the twenty six year old Eternal Senshi. Corrupt Eternal Senshi, as it was now. He did not think much of it, though somewhere inside himself he knew he should care, at least a little, about who he had once been and where he came from. Instead, he was simply a soldier serving one purpose, and he was beginning to really enjoy that job. Sure, he was still not the kind of guy who took well to orders, and certainly did not show how much he liked anything. These days, he was a brute, and he was fine with that lot in life. No one expected anything out of him but fulfilling his day to day tasks. Since he was only answering to one woman, then, it was an easy job that came with a lot of satisfaction through the work.

Go beat the s**t out of this person. Go teach this person what fear means. Come help me settle an old debt. General Painite was a simple creature, he had come to find, and serving her, in turn, was simple. Violent, and often cruel, but simple.

Tonight, Chaonis was on his own. Painite allowed him off his leash to see what mess he could get up to on his own, and to tell her all about it in a few days. He wondered if it was a test to see if he would go looking for his family, that knight that swore to save him. The one who hurt so much whenever he so much as saw the Corrupt Senshi. But no, Chaonis could not be bothered with something like that tonight. Too much emotion, even if none of it came from himself. He just wanted to do what he was good at, and mess up some pathetic White Mooner who made the mistake of coming out from hiding.

He could not say he liked his new look. Still armored and looking like a run away from a paintball course, he had been granted long, flowing hair with his corruption, which he prompt cut off with the first sharp object he had access to. That had been Painite's spear, and in the end, it had not turned out to be the best hair cutting tool. He did not care, though, so long as it was not at his feet and getting in his way. Plus there was the gaping hole in his chest...

Walking away from the main hub of the city, Chaonis stuck to his master's hunting spots, along the outskirts and through the less populated areas in and around the city. He was not in a hurry to get anywhere specific, feeling for auras and listening for any movements or indications that there might be something hiding nearby.

The life of a tiger was a solitary one, especially within the last year. When Sailor Tsui first started out as a senshi, she did her hunts alone, and that had cost her a few scars and beat downs. She had learned through the early years that it wasn't wise to take her sphere so literally and to work as a member of a team, and yet, here she was, scarred, battered, forever marred by this ongoing war, and conducting her hunts alone.

Except this time, she didn't want to be alone. She had fought hard for her friends and companions over the years, but it seemed that no matter how hard to fought, it was not enough to keep them tethered. The moment the citizens turned on them, Tsui had watched as more and more of her comrades disappeared. They either fell in battle, or she watched them get captured, or... the worse was to see them willingly offer their starseeds for corruption.

Even the Painite Survivors Support Group couldn't withstand the winds of change. How long had it been since she had seen any of them? Ida, Athene, Chaonis, Liryn... where had they all gone? What of the Jovians?

The scarred Senshi of Tigers gazed out from her perch with a single golden eye, for once regretting the white clothing she wore as part of the White Moon as it'd make her easy to see, even from her protective perch. Most people didn't bother looking up and Tsui was taking full advantage of that, kneeling behind the raised parapet and looking out for signs of either her own kind or the enemy. When her sight failed her, she at least had her senses to rely on, and the feeling of someone dark approaching made her sneer. If she could feel them, then they could certainly feel her!

"Good... been looking forward to a scuffle."

The Eternal Senshi sensed his new opponent nearby, and moved toward it slowly. He did not see her right away, walking under the energy signal without spotting the source. Of course, Chaonis used to spend a lot of his time up on the roof tops, but he could no longer remember all of that. He just did things as they came to him these days, mostly making things up as he went along or taking his cues from his 'master'.

"I know you're here, senshi. Why not come out and make this easier for both of us," he called, crossing his arms over his chest.

He stood the same way. Sounded the same. But he was not the Chaonis of the past. That man was gone from his mind, and replacing it was a creature bent on fulfilling only one purpose. Hunting senshi down and destroying them. More specifically, he wanted to find the ones Painite told him about, the ones she said he wold be rewarded for killing. The ones he used to know, before he was taken by the Negaverse. She described them, told him their names, and told him to look for them.

So he did.

They were literally on top of one another and if Tsui relied solely on luck, she might have hoped he would have continued on without once thinking of looking up, as she could only assume he was below her. Not unless her enemy had learned to fly. He shouted out to her, confirming her suspicions that he was below her on the streets, but that wasn't what made her heard sink to her gut. No, an enemy knowing where she was and calling her out didn't bother her, but that voice... was familiar. Damn familiar, and Tsui could not stop the shudder from overtaking here, even for a moment. She tried to tell herself that her mind was playing tricks on her, that she had become too desperate for some kind of closure on her old comrades that she was imagining that the voice she heard belonged to Chaonis...

Because it couldn't have been Chaonis. It just couldn't. He was too strong and ornery to have succumbed to the Negaverse...

There was only one way to confirm this, she told herself, and she steeled herself as she crept towards the edge of the building, knowing that she'd be exposing herself and that a fight would be inevitable between them, but she had to see for herself. But how could she prepare for such a sight? There, standing just below her, arms crossed and waiting impatiently for her to come down and meet her fate, was Chaonis. Only everything was wrong. His uniform was black, his feathered wings traded in for bat wings... his aura reeked of darkness. At least one mystery was solved in regards to what had happened to her fellow PSSG members... even if it wasn't the ending she was hoping for.

"Why don't you come up here instead so that no one interrupts us?" Tsui shouted back down to him, her single golden eye glistening with barely contained rage that was probably visible, even from this distance, knowing that there was nothing to be done about hiding herself. He would have figured to look up eventually, and better to get this encounter under way, she thought, than to prolong the pain anymore. She wanted to get a better look at him, just in case she was mistaking him. "Got a bone to pick with you!"

"Who's going to interrupt us? This isn't a date," Chaonis grunted in response, sounding very put out and annoyed, but he moved to follow her instructions, anyway. Even though they were annoying him, and all he really wanted to do was hurt her and be done with it. He did not know who she was, though.

He just wanted to fight.

Climbing up the building, he went to meet his opponent where she wanted him to be, rather than force her down to the floor. He did not care, either way, and if she was waiting in some kind of a trap, he would deal with it. he did not care and he was sure he would be able to get out of it. Or if not, no big loss.

He was nothing. He served one Negaverse General and he could not remember anything about himself. He was not a person, not really, so if he did end up getting killed out here, it would be a loss to no one at all. He looked at the senshi now, not knowing her immediately, though something in the back of his head thudded against the barrier between his consciousness and his memories.

"You said something about a bone?"

Normally she might have liked the sarcasm she heard from the other senshi, but too much had happened in the last five years to warrant anything more than a faint grin. Once upon a time, Tsui enjoyed fighting and sometimes there were the fun little banters that'd go on between herself and the enemy. Chaonis' comeback would have made her laugh a few years ago, but now, there was nothing to smile about. She had wondered what happened to her comrade and friend and an optimist would have welcomed the closure, even if it was bittersweet, but Tsui was seldom an optimist. Naive, perhaps, but never the type to become disillusioned with the idea that positive thinking solved everything. Even that was gone...

There was no doubt about it now... when he shouted back, there was no recognition, no friendly smile. Chaonis, the Chaonis she knew, was gone. Whether he was forcibly corrupted or had given up his starseed willingly, it didn't matter to Tsui. He didn't recognize her, he didn't remember being a part of the PSSG, probably didn't remember Athene, Ida or Liryn... didn't remember fighting along side her nor how at one time, she envied him. Maybe even idolized him.

It would have been honoroable to wait for him to get settled in before striking, but Tsui was far too hurt by the sudden revelation presenting itself before her to care about what was honorable now. And surely, Chaonis wouldn't hold a shred of it within him, so the moment he was on the roof, she lashed out. Her words may have been curious, but the fist aimed for his jaw killed the joke. "I changed my mind! I'd rather just break them!"

Chaonis was surprised when she moved to attack him immediately. He barely got a look at her, but when he did see her, lunging his way, he felt a sharp jolt of deja vu. Maybe not from them fighting one another, like this, but he was sure he had seen her in a fight before. Maybe he had been helping her, once upon a time. He knew he had been a good guy, before he was corrupted. Painite made sure to tell him that, and to tell him that his only purpose now was to destroy everything he had built in his past life.

He was hers, and he could never forget it.

But there were many things he had forgotten already, and he found that he was much more interested in remembering the things he had forgotten than losing more memories, whether Painite told him to or not. He was bent on doing everything he could for her, because that was what he was here to do, but some things took their own life in his mind. This fascination with who he had been was not going away.

Maybe this Senshi knew more than he did, and could tell him. He could not just ask her, though, and he did not have the will to ignore Painite's direct order.

Her hit landed hard on his jaw and he stumbled sideways because of it, tasting blood in his mouth but lashing out with his own swing when she was close enough, aiming for her side rather than her face.

"You'll have to hit harder than that to break me," he growled, instincts taking over.

Tsui had no real plan besides 'run forward and attack', as per usual with the Tiger senshi. Maybe she would have tried to devise a strategy in the past, when she had a team to fight with, when she had her beloved fiancee to fight along side her. But now? What did she have? Her teams were scattered, Sutai was a part of the organization she loathed the most, and she was facing off against a senshi she once fought alongside and admired. What did she have to lose now? Who would even notice, or care, if the Eternal Senshi of Tigers was defeated this evening?

Had she not allowed her despair to get to her, she might have considered the possibility that Chaonis could be won back. Sutai could be won back, if she'd just stay alive, but Tsui was never one to think of the future. That was someone else's job. Her job was just to attack, and hope that her strikes were enough to keep the Negaverse away from the rest of her Court and civilians for a little while longer.

What bothered her, though, was that Chaonis didn't immediately fight back, and she was surprised that she had landed a blow so easily, given who her opponent was. She had hoped it had felt good to deck a traitor in the face, but it didn't, and in her momentary confusion, he managed to drive his fist into her side, forcing her back a few feet. She let out a groan and pressed a hand against her side, checking for broken ribs, and she at him with a single, angered eye. "I'd rather you come to your senses and come back, but if you want to be broken, then I can oblige..."

"I can't come to my senses," Chaonis said, almost blandly save for a low, subtle undercurrent of something he could not quite understand. Anger? Bitterness? He was not sure why he would be feeling something like that. After all, he could not remember who he was, and had no reason to believe that who he had been was better than who he was now.

Something he wanted to miss.

"They were taken from me. At least the ones you think I should have."

He wiped blood from his face, his lip having been split open. He watched her, knowing he had landed a sturdy hit, if only because his knuckles were throbbing now. He seemed much calmer than he might have been, once upon a time, and that all too common grin from his past was absent now. He was focused, serious, and watching her with a complicated light in his eyes. Something in him was searching her, reaching out. He needed to know who she was, and maybe he would know who he was.

Why did that matter? Why did she matter?

"Why does Painite want me to kill you? She thinks you were important to me."

"You can't? You can't? Goddamn, Chaonis, since when did you become such a quitter?!" Tsui hadn't heard the bitterness in his tone and had the last three years not have turned to utter hell before her eyes (eye now) she might have caught onto it. Yet, even on her best days, Tsui wasn't so much one to think ahead, nor take other's feelings or thoughts into consideration, and all she wanted to do right now was fight. If Chaonis didn't remember her, then maybe he couldn't be saved, and if he couldn't be saved, then... perhaps she would have to put him out of his misery. She didn't want to think about it, but the thought remained in the back of her mind, ever present and waiting to spring at moment. "Tell me who took your 'senses' and I'll make sure they pay for it when I track them down!"

The sight of blood might have disgusted her, especially against a friend's body, but the one-eyed Tiger senshi was numb to it now. She forced herself to be, otherwise she'd be too weak to carry on, and she needed to. She wasn't sure why she even fought anymore, but she had to carry on, or it would have all been meaningless. That's what helped her overcome inflicting such damage on an old friend and trying for another, despite the stabbing pain in her chest. She gave herself a moment to suck in her breaths, thinking of a plan of attack and wondering if it were possible to flank him now, and she paused in her impromptu battle tactics when he dropped a familiar name.

"Painite... what does she have to do with any of..." Her heard froze for a moment in her chest, and her fight was gone, even if only for a moment. "Is... is she the one that corrupted you?"

Chaonis watched her, noting the look on Tsui's face at the mention of Painite. So maybe it was not just Chaonis that this senshi was important to. There was some sort of history between her and Painite, and Painite was just using him, once again, to hurt the people he cared about and she hated. That was his lot in life now, and he could not fight against it. He was not capable of fighting it, as far as he knew. This was just who he was now, and the chaos in him told him there was nothing else.

But more and more he was finding it harder to blindly believe what he was told. He was, despite himself, beginning to question.

"Painite is my master. She corrupted me, she keeps me to fight for her. She tells me that people like you are my targets, and I'm supposed to cause you as much pain as I can. I want to find out about who I was. I will do what I'm told if I have to, but I want to find out why."

It was difficult for him to understand his emotions, as there seemed to be a wall between him and them. He felt things, but without knowing why, he did not know how to properly react to them. How could he even be a good soldier for Painite if he was starting to be so plagued with questions? She never had to find out. If he got his answers, maybe that would just put his mind at rest.

Or maybe things would change completely. Whatever happened, he could not go on the way he had been these last few months. A brainless brawler. He held his fists up though, ready to continue the fight if she lunged at him again.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 20, 2014 1:25 pm

Hearing the words 'Painite' and 'Master' in the same sentence triggered a wildfire of emotions within her, and there was not enough water in the world that would douse it now. Painite corrupted Chaonis, one of the strongest and greatest senshi she had known, and now to add insult to injury, expected him to call her master? After making the pact with her, Ida and Athene, she took him and tarnished him... it was more insulting than the scars that decorated her body thanks to her, and cut far, far deeper than her spear every could.

It made her so angry, and it made her angrier that Painite wasn't here for her to unleash her fury onto. Even if it got her killed, or worse, force corrupted, to join her former ally and friend, at least she could have gone down fighting in some manner. No, there was only Chaonis, and Tsui wished that Ida, Liryn or Athene were there, instead of her. Maybe one of them would have understood Chaonis' plea and would have had the heart and patience to try and talk him down. But Tsui was always a victim of her emotions, and she could only lash out at his words.

"You were once our friend, Chaonis... not just a White Moon senshi, but our friend. You joined our little group-- the Painite Survivors Support Group... because we all shared a common goal. To fight Painite and others like her in the Negaverse, and help others overcome their fears and hardships." Tsui explained, running at the Corrupted senshi and lunging in for a punch as she explained. "She wants you to fight us... to remind us of just how much of a MONSTER she is!"
