Being the son of the son of a wanderer was less of a "distancing" effect that one might thing. In fact, to Ashrialto's mind it was almost more cumulative rather than the reverse, for it seemed since he was born he hadn't been able to keep his hooves still for a moment. While he would never travel as far as his grand sire -who had arrived to the Soquili Lands in the belly of a great wooden vessel the humans called 'ship'- he still did his fair share of travel. Perhaps more than his fair share, one could say. His father was the very same, so perhaps by now those familiar with their family was used to it?

"Not that such an excuse will fly." Ash sighed to himself as he wound through the woods with cat-like grace.

Not that he planned to give excuses, as there was no point. He had been away far longer than he expected, and there was nothing for it now. His family had needed his help. Delphina understood that, she had her own family. But neither of them had anticipated he would be gone so long...

He hoped his pretty little Pixie of a mate would forgive him, for the time spent away in the service of his family. He'd missed her fiercely, and finally they were to be reunited. Familiar responsibility or not, he wouldn't be wandering for some time.

After all, eventually, all paths lead back to Delphina.
"I'm coming home, Light of my Life."

Delphina was known for her calm, sweet and understanding nature. She didn't begrudge anyone a thing, and knew that some things just to precedence. She, however, was not immune to hurt feelings, Ash had left so many moons ago to assist his family, leaving her alone with their children. Delri was just like his father, a wanderer at heart, so he was gone on his travels most of the time. Tara liked to take day trips, but was always back by nightfall. But, her daughter and her father had left several days ago on an adventure of their own, something they did often, leaving the grey mare to her own devices here alone. Her human friend Kassie had kept her company, the small mare helping her move wood for the fire and pick apples. But, it wasn't the same. She missed her mate terribly, and hoped to the stars he was safe.
She smiled, enjoying the breeze that blew through the field by the teepee, knowing that her stallion would be home soon. She also knew she was going to make him suffer a bit.
Just because she was kind and sweet, didn't mean she couldn't torment her mate with the best them .

Reaching the grasslands, Ash stretched into an easy canter, speeding along on his journey. He was very nearly certain his little mate would be mildly annoyed, either by his extended disappearance or the current wanderings of their son. There was not much that could be done regarding his own disappearance, as it had effected the three previous generations as well. They had all been gone far longer than expected, but had finally returned. And, very likely, were going to hear about it from their ladies.

As Ash and Del's daughter Tara was less likely to disappear for days on end (she did take after her mother, to an extent) it was unlikely Del would be annoyed at or about her. Instead, Ash was fairly certain that he or his son Delrialto would be the cause of his mate's ire. After all, when Delri was misbehaving or wandering extensively, he was most certainly Ash's Son.

As his son was not here, that meant either way Ash was going to hear about it. But at the moment, he was so glad to see her again he couldn't even be disheartened by the idea. Nearing his destination he slowed to a walk, winding his way through the last of the brush.

At the sight of wings in the grove beyond, he smiled and stepped into view. "Excuse me... I'm looking for a star-painted lady..."

Del smiled as she heard a faint buzzing, lifting her head as the small bird zoomed by to land on a branch by her head.
"Hello Cursa..."
The little bird chipped a happy reply, "He's close."
The small mare laughed, nosing the tiny bird gently. "Thank you dear friend. Kassie has food for you if your hungry. She's starting to grow those flowers you like as well."
Cursa chirped again, fluttering off.
Del watched the little bird go, happy to have found her and brought her back with her. She'd been a great company over the past few days, and Del had needed that. With a tilt of her head, and a ruffle of her wings, the mare turned, schooling her expression into cool neutrality. She liked to make him squirm just a little bit.
"A star-painted lady hmmm? I had a handsome stallion call me that before, but he's been missing for some time now..."

There was little in the land that could hold Ash's attention or presence to any particular location. But anywhere his family was a good start. Still, even his sire lost track of him now and again. Both Imrikalto and Sibalto knew that the first place to look was in Delphina's shadow. Then again, perhaps his Lady Love didn't know that. With his unintentionally lengthy disappearance, it certainly wasn't very apparent at the moment.

Oh, Ash my lad... You are in trouble indeed.' A soft voice warned him. At the thought Ash chuckled internally and inched closer to her, giving a somber look. "Aye, that I am... And I understand he's been missing you terribly, the whole of the time he was away. Darned foolish of him to go, but stallions can be like that."

Sibalto and Imrikalto were off finding their own ladies, and surely would be in even greater trouble than Ash. But he didn't mind either way, because no matter how fine his words were they were truth. He had desperately missed his lovely little mate.

Ducking his head and giving her an earnest look with wide silver eyes. "What can this foolish stallion do to appease his Star-Painted Love?"

Del hid her smile behind the length of her hair. He looked so repentant, the mare decided not to give him to much grief. After all, it must have been a very good reason to keep him from her for so long.

"So true, stallions of his line can be rather foolish. But, they do have several redeeming qualities that make them wonderful mates and fathers."

She turned fully, smiling softly. He looked almost pitiful standing there, drooping like a wilted flower. Laughing, she ambled toward him, pressing her muzzle to the side of his face. "He was forgiven the moment he stepped foot in this glade... But the star painted lady would certainly like to know what kept her knight, and if all is well because of it."

She hoped that whatever had kept her mate hadn't been anything serious and dangerous, and that all the stallions of the family were safe. She imagined they wouldn't be safe from their mates, but as long as they were physically safe, Del was happy.

Even though it looked as though there was some softening in her gaze and a relaxation in the tension around her mouth, Ash kept looking at Delphina as soulfully as possible. He hoped she would forgive him for his accidental but lengthy absence. He didn't necessarily deserve it, but he prayed for her forgiveness all the same. And she didn't look like she'd give it just yet, but she looked less likely to trample him into the dust.

He knew his little mate well, that didn't mean much yet. "Indeed they can. Prone to gaps in planning an being entirely unreasonable... Amazingly enough, we usually find a mare that can train us up a bit, or at least keep us on track."

He chuckled faintly at her compliment, somewhat backwards though the whole discussion was. "Aye, with the proper lady as the mother... I suppose anything is possible. I'll have you know.... I did miss you terribly, you know. All the light in my life leaves with you. I've been wandering about in darkness since I left, Pixie."

He rumbled happily at her forgiveness, curling his tail around one dainty ankle and nuzzling her cheek and neck. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart, beloved. And am happy to share the longer stories later. The short version is family obligation. Sibalto went searching for his lost son... My father went along, because he could not let the search for his brother consist only of grandsire... I helped, for a time, and then tried to track down leans separate from them... As I am the swiftest runner. Sadly, we return without any knowledge of my uncle... Though we were lucky enough to find my aunt's children. I even managed to cross paths with a couple cousins."

That much was happy news... Though he still wondered about the safety of their missing relatives. Still, with the Kalona herd, their wandering was well-timed and then cut off... It took longer than expected, but there was much land left unchecked. Still, Ash didn't have time for that now. He had a lady's forgiveness to court.

"I also had to help Tashika fetch herbs from high up in the mountains." He sighed. "A little bit of snow and an ill-tempered native or two slowed us.. But we did manage to avoid Skinwalkers, and get what she was after. I am sorry for the delay all the same, My Lady."

Giving a happy hum, Del leaned into the solid strength of her mate. He was such a kind and caring male, who loved her and loved their children with all he had. He was everything she had dreamed of as a little filly, prancing and playing with her father. He'd been a dear friend of her fathers, and she'd had a crush on the wanderer for seasons before she'd been grown enough to do anything about it. She was certainly glad she had, she truly had the fairy tale all females dreamed of.

Listening to her mate intently, Del pressed her muzzle against his. "Ah, I see. I'm glad to hear you found cousins. Hopefully that luck will continue on and you will find your uncle. Sibalto must be so worried."

She was well aware of how much the patriarch of the SilverStallion clan felt about his family and children. Any missing family were searched for, and never given up on, no matter the length of time. It was comforting to know she had such tenacious inlaws.

Laughing softly, Del shook her head. Tashika was a lovely human, who often helped her human Kassie with different affairs. She remembered flying the 2 natives to a remote lake to find shells, or up some steep cliffs for rare flowers to help with healing. "Thank goodness you got what she needed. Otherwise, Myself or Dad would be flying her and Kassie back up to make another attempt at it!"

User Image There wasn't much use in having a good vocabulary and a charming wit if it wasn't put to use. And in Ashrialto's mind, he had never found so good a use as that of pleasing his mate. Since he was a long way off from that, he would at least settle for appeasing her, and earning her forgiveness down the road. Something at least seemed to be going right, for soon enough he was treated to the comforting press of her warmth to his side. Unwilling to loose that, he cuddled close.

"Greetings, Pixie." He crooned into the soft scent of her mane, eyes drifting closed for a moment. "I missed you, truly; more than words can say."

His thoughts drifted for a moment, worry spiking as the distant rumors of his Uncle had melted into nothing at all. He hated to think it, but he worried the older stallion was dead. To say his father and grandfather were upset would be an understatement. It was something of a relief to return to his lady and find her safe and well, and allow the elders their time to grieve. And at least there was some happiness in the discovery of cousins.

"Father and Grandfather are deeply worried, yes." Ash admitted with a sigh. "But Grandmother was even more upset by our absence, and I understand there was trouble with my Aunt that now has Grandmother worried... It is all very tense. At any rate, I am glad to return and find you safe... And our children as well."

He grinned at the sound of her laughter, beaming down at her with laughing eyes. They were fond indeed of their two-leggers, and he had found a few things that Tashika would give as gifts to Kassie when the time was right. He couldn't wait to see her face. "That was part of the reason we stayed away so long. I wouldn't wish that on anyone!"

Not that he didn't love both the humans... But those who knew them understood just how much work they could be.

"Enough of that, for now. How is your father? Well, I hope."
