Tonight Cybele was out hunting at a park that was a bit less familiar. Or... something. She was walking around, watching for trouble and sensing for auras, yes, but she wasn't as focused as she should have been. Ever since she'd killed that lieutenant she'd been so uncertain about all of this. Really, she hoped she wouldn't run into anything so she could go home. The last few nights she'd been lucky on that front, but today she could feel a Negaverse aura, and it was close. No, wait. It was a Dark Mirror aura. That was... weird. The last time she'd seen any was that chaotic battle that she'd been in for maybe a minute, and tried to forget as soon as possible, and that had been months ago. Before that it had been... years, almost. She definitely didn't know what to think about seeing one now. "Hello?" she called out, cautious but not in a fighting stance yet. She knew she had liked their court once, almost enough to join it, but she was fairly certain they had lied to her, too. Regardless of the past, the Chaos in the aura was setting her on edge now.

Super Sailor Canopus had not expected to run into trouble this evening, though given the strange occurrances that constantly plagued her beloved city, it seemed to be wishful thinking on her part. Most girls her age were enjoying their summer vacation and during the daytime, she did enjoy the downtime between her summer reading and other activities. Any chance to stay indoors and avoid the heat was a blessing to her, but she knew she couldn't stay indoors forever. Not when she had a duty to do.
At least it was considerably cooler at night, Canopus thought, traversing through the mirror verse and stepping out into familiar territory. The woods within the park was always one of her favorite locations within Destiny City, as the park held him fond memories for her. This was where she met Prince Remarque, and later on, Damocles, Tantalus, and then Avior. This was also where she met the White Moon senshis, Astarte and Mintaka, and friendshipa bloomed from that, though she wasn't sure if her prince and princess would have approved. Perhaps she thoughtthey would wish to be welcomed into her court some day? Once again, wishful thinking, but there was nothing to deter such thoughts from her mind as of yet. Not everyone hated their court, and it Canopus knew that part of her mission was to save as much of the White Moon senshi as she could. Perhaps she could save them both...
The spark of an Order aura struck her senses, and it's strength felt familiar, akin to that of Mintaka's. Perhaps Mintaka had come to visit her again? It could have been just as likely to be an enemy waiting to pounce, so Canopus decided to approach the situation with caution. It seemed that the senshi out there had the same idea, as she had called out first, alerting Canopus to where she stood. She was a very pretty senshi, but Canopus kept this thought to herself, as she noted that her stance wasn't exactly combative. Maybe she wasn't looking for a fight either?
"Hello... I'm right here," Canopus said, stepping out from behind a tree and making sure her stance wasn't too aggressive. If she wasn't looking for a fight, then neither was Canopus. She would have preferred it that way. "You don't have to be afraid of me. I'm not going to hurt you..."

"You're not going to hurt me?" Cybele blinked in surprise, not because she'd been expecting to be attacked, but because she hadn't even considered the possibility that it could happen. She turned to get a better look at the other girl, who definintly didn't look threatening. Maybe she should have. They were on the same power level, and Cybele knew from experience that even cute teenage girls who weren't holding up fists at the moment could be killers. It wasn't that, though. She had a hard time connecting the Dark Mirror Court in general to violence. Was it against their philosophy? She couldn't remember. She didn't ask, though. She just said, "Oh... we are supposed to be enemies, aren't we?" On one hand, Cybele was feeling increasingly loyal to the White Moon Court and liked knowing what she was supposed to do. On the other hand, this Dark Mirror Senshi wasn't hurting anyone. They could talk for now. "I'm Cybele. I'm the Senshi of the Hunt," she said, not really unpleasantly, but she didn't offer a smile or her typical curtsy or let her mental guard down at all. "I won't hurt you, either." "You... want me to join your Court, right?" That was the one thing she remembered clearly about them. She'd promised to join them, on a few conditions, back when she'd first become a senshi. It had been... in this park, actually, hadn't it? She'd met Remarque here that night more than a year ago. What she didn't remember was why they wanted to recruit people so much.

"No, not unless you intend to hurt me, or anyone in my Court..." Canopus said, though her words carried a warning, there was no anger or malice in her voice. She didn't want to feel threatening to her- perhaps too many of her fellow courtmates were too aggressive in their approach and this was having a negavtive effect on her court's reputation? It was never too late to fix a bad reputation, she thought to herself, using that as encouragement to keep talking, even when her heart was beating rapidly within her chest. She took in the senshi's question and pondered it for a moment, choosing her words carefully before she continued. "Many people feel that we should, due to our different alignments, but I don't see any reason to see you as an enemy. Not today, and hopefully not any other day."
It was always a good sign when introductions were given, and Cybele's promise not to harm her was finally what caused Canopus to drop her guard. Still naive, but forever hopeful, such was the way of the Mirror Senshi. "It's nice to meet you, Cybele. My name's Canopus of Longevity. I'm a Dark Mirror Senshi, as you can see."
Her next question made her tilt her head, and Canopus was surprised by just how quickly she got to asking such a question. Never one to lie, she bobbed her head up and down in confirmation.
"It's my ultimate goal, yes. We want to rescue as many of our brothers and sisters from the White Moon as we can, but I'm patient. I understand that the decision would not be an easy one, and nor should it be. I'd like to save you, too, Cybele, but I know it won't be done in a single day. Has others in my court asked you before?"

Cybele nodded stiffly at the introduction and the explanation that yes, Canopus was trying to recruit her. Save her, even. All of the Dark Mirrors she'd met so far seemed happy enough, when they weren't fighting, but she didn't think joining them would save her. Long ago, she'd sort of hoped it would, she though. Now, even the use of the word set her further on edge. "I talked to... Remarque, I think, a long time ago, and he asked me to join you, and on a condition." What was the condition? It was the kind of thing that she should have remembered, considering how long that conversation had haunted her for, but it had been so long. "If... the White Moon Court didn't work out for me, I think. He was acting like we were the evil ones, though, kidnapping and killing people. I believed him, sort of, for a while, but now..." She paused, thinking about all the conversations she'd had recently about killing, about all of the blood that was on her allies' hands, and her own. It was a war... but... Well, she couldn't think too much about the life she'd ended without breaking down, and now was definitely not a good time for that. Instead, she said, confidently, "Now I know it's the Negaverse's fault." Cybele didn't really want to think about the Negaverse, though. The DMC was confusing enough. " I don't know that much about your court, anymore. I don't know if we should be enemies. I just know that you all lied to me. I don't think I want to join you."

Canopus immediately beamed at the mention of Remarque's name, and she could not stop herself from gushing at the thought of her beloved prince. "Oh Prince Remarque... he's the one that awakened me into this court. He also saved my from hypothemia... it was so cold that night. Had he not been there, I might not have survived."
Fearing that she had interrupted Cybele's story, she silenced herself once more and stood completely still, bowing her head in apology and listening intently. She tilted her head with slight confusion at her explanation, but she waited until Cybele was done before she spoke up. Her confusion only lasted for a moment, though, when she remembered Serpentarius' retelling over the old days, before the Dark Mirror Court. During the times of the Blood Moon Court.
Should she have told Cybele what she knew? Would it confirm her fears? Would it alieviate it? She seemed confused and left in the dark, a comment state that her poor White Moon brothers and sisters were left in, and even if it would have been for the best. So, she took a moment to consider the best way to approach this, then took in a breath.
"He's not... exactly wrong. There was a group in the White Moon, a faction that called themselves the Blood Moon Court. I've met one of its former members not too long ago, and she admitted that they did some fairly... dark things, things that no one else would do and that isolated them from their own kind. I suspect they they took their enemies and did such things to them. She wouldn't go into detail, but she said it was for the good of the war. That the ends justify the means..."
Maybe telling Cybele that was a bad idea. Maybe she should have stopped there, but she was just too honest. Cybele had brought up the Negaverse, and Canopus could feel her heart lurch at the very idea of them. No, she still did not trust them, and Canopus was starting to think that Princess Ares had chosen the wrong allies all along. Their courts had a shared distrust for the Negaverse, and yet they were deemed their enemies? Perhaps there was still much for Canopus to learn. And it seemed that the lies already left Cybele's trust in an irrepairable state, as Canopus could not help but hear the finality of her statement. "I'm sorry, I don't think it was ever our intention to lie... you see, we haven't seen our Princess in so long, and some of the older members of our court, the ones who were once part of the Blood Moon, have either left or have mended their ways. We're not like that. At least not all of us..."
She was probably making it worse, but she couldn't bring herself to lie. "I'll admit, I was told that the White Moon senshi were our sworn enemies, but... I don't believe that anymore. Too much has changed, and I found that your kind are just easier to talk to. I think that whatever quarrels we had in the past are over... I think both our courts are just in our cause, even if there are a few questionable members. If anything, we share a common enemy, don't we?"

Remarque was their Prince? She didn't remember, even in her annoyingly faded memories, him having wings, but she had no reason not to believe Canopus about something like that. The Blood Moon Court didn't seem very familiar either. "There was a whole Court devoted to... killing and that sort of thing? In the White Moon?" Again, not really something that it would make sense to lie about, unless she thought Cybele would dislike the thought of violence enough to corrupt. "It can't be worse than what some of us were doing now." That was the closest to she was going to get to admitting that her Court was getting more murderous and she wasn't sure how she felt about it. "Well... not torture." That was one thing to not be upset about. "That wasn't what Remarque told me about, though. It was... one event. Um... in space. And..." She thought for a while, trying to remember more details, without any luck. "I don't know, it was a very long time ago. It was an event, in space, where the Senshi killed a lot of people." It didn't make any sense, saying it now, but it had made sense to her at the time. "Anyway..." She really didn't want to dwell on that too much. She realized now she hadn't been thinking about it on purpose. "Your Princess? I... I watched her die." That probabally wasn't the most cheerful thing to change the subject to, but it seemed relevant. Just mentioning it brought it all back- the screams as she was attacked, her glimmering starseed being ripped just before Cybele turned to run. It had been a few months ago, which wasn't that long ago for Cybele, who hadn't been affected by it except by a nightmare or two, but probabally felt like an eternity to the Court who practically worshiped her. "How is your court... doing?"

She bit the bottom of her lip and murmured softly, trying so hard not to let her hear her slight frustration when Cybele put it like that. "Not... really? They did kill, yes, but they believed it to be for the good of all. The ends justify the means... they saw the Negaverse as a serious threat and knew that if the situations were reversed that they'd be killed or tortured as well. I'm not saying they were right, but... it didn't do them much favors within the White Moon court."
Canopus tilted her head in confusion. An event in space? Admittedly she knew nothing about it, and nor would she pretend she did. That story would be for Remarque to tell, and admittedly, she'd be eager to listen in on it as well. It sounded rather exciting!
"I'm sorry, I don't know anything about that event. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen... when I see my prince again, I'll ask him to clarify that story and I can relay that back to you, if you'd like?" And then, back to confusion. Her princess? Die? She shook her head quickly, clearly disagreeing with such a statement. "No, no, Ares isn't dead. Yes, she's been gone for awhile, but... she's too strong to have perished. We'd know. She's just busy. And our court's doing... well, I suppose. Perhaps a little bitter about recent affairs, but alive, and growing stronger."stari_maga I'm so sorry, I think I had lost the notification for this!

"Oh," said Cybele, nodding steadily as Canopus explained the Blood Moon court and their justifications, although internally she was a bit confused because she wasn't expecting that speech from someone who wasn't even from the White Moon. "You're sure they're not still around?" They were sounding more and more familiar. The other girl seemed to know even less about the event in space than she did, though. "It's fine. It happened a long time ago, anyway..." she said, not wanting to dwell on it to much. The vague memories that went along with that story weren't very pleasant. Anyway, there was the more important, more recent, and somehow more confusing matter of the Princess, Ares, apparently. "She's... not dead?" Cybele blinked, slowly. That was possible, maybe, but..."She's been gone away for a long time?" That probably meant more than a few months, which meant something didn't add up. "Are you sure?" That was probabally a stupid question, but the image was burned into her mind and even a Dark Mirror Senshi couldn't just tell her it didn't happen. "There was a battle in a burning warehouse... not the one where there was a hostage situation and youma, the one before that. I wasn't actually there very long, just long enough to see your Princess have her starseed ripped..." "I tried to help, even though a senshi was fighting her, but..." It felt necessary to say that, but she quickly shook her head and got back to the important things. "I... think it was your Princess. We all have tiaras, but she had real wings and a strong aura and a lot of people trying to kill her." She frowned. "I thought she was too strong to die, too."

"I want to say that, no, they're not, because some of those members went on to become the Court I'm in now, but I'm not so sure there aren't ones that still might have the same philosophy..." Canopus said, rubbing her arm and still wishing she hadn't chopped her ponytail off as she wanted to tug at it to help alleviate her nervousness. "Thankfully I haven't run into them from the White Moon Court yet... just as I haven't seen the bloodthirsty ones from my own. I'm sure they exist, but... I've never met them, and I really don't think I want to."
She felt bad that she couldn't tell Cybele more about the event in space, but what could she have possibly done about that? Maybe she'd let her call her Prince and see if he could enlighten her, but what if she thought that she was trying to lure her into a trap? Not that Canopus ever would, but ever since the ambush she had become progressively self aware of her actions and how they may come off to members of the opposing faction. Not to mention, Cybele's obvious confusion as to who Princess Ares was was starting to get to Canopus... maybe she was the one mistaken? But it didn't make any sense... until Cybele brought up the burning warehouse.
Suddenly it clicked, and Canopus couldn't stop the smile from spreading to her face, as she started to laugh with relief. "Oh, oh! No... you're thinking of Princess Leto! She and Remarque were assigned Princess and Prince of the Dark Mirror Court when Ares disappeared into the mirror! She's the one you're thinking about, and I can assure you, she's quite alive! You had me worried for a second there!"

"Oh...?" Again, Cybele blinked, slowly. Actually, the confused expression didn't have a chance to fade from her face. There was a lot of surprisingly confusing information coming at her all at once. "They became the Dark Mirror Court?" She repeated, obviously not convinced. "But your court doesn't seem particularly violent, or against the Negaverse." They were deceptive and possibly evil, but all of the ones she'd talked to seemed nice and willing to chat, and if others were more bloodthirsty, wouldn't she have heard about them? At least after that there were finally answers that made sense, even if, again, they were unexpected. "She's alive?" That was another thing it could have been hard to believe, but Canopus's laugh was so reassuring that she found herself smiling back. "That's... that's great to hear." With a little thinking, even more of her confusion was cleared up. Ares had probabally still been around when she'd first awakened. That would explain why Remarque wasn't a prince at the time, and qualified as 'a long time ago'. "She's not your... real princess, though?" That was understandable, too. It wasn't like the White Moon treated their Princesses as rulers.

All Canopus could do was bob her head up and down, trying her best to help Cybele in her quest for knowledge and hoping that she wasn't accidentally misleading the poor girl, like others had apparently done in the past. Was this the status of most of the White Moon senshi? Poor, misled Senshi! "Not all of them, I think, but some did go on to become the founding members of the Dark Mirror Court. I actually haven't met any of them, though. Perhaps they abandoned the court, or maybe they gave up their bloodthirsty ways and seek a more peaceful end to this war. I couldn't say... but I think our courts can coexist peacefully. For what it's worth..."
She wondered if the White Moon had multiple royalties among their court, because it seemed like the idea of having multiple princesses confused the poor girl. Once again, Canopus tried to clear things up, hoping that her chipper tone didn't come off as mocking to the White Moon senshi. "She is. Her and Remarque are just as much royalty and our leaders as Ares is. She simply has seniority over them, and I'm sure once she returns from Mirrorspace, they would gladly work together. They're all true royals, to my knowledge."
