Otto was furious.
A direct message or two on Twitter had created a terrible misunderstanding between himself and Maebe. How, boiling over, Otto abandoned the online conversation in favour of taking out his anger on something. If he'd kept talking to Maebe, he'd have said things he would regret. He knew this. It had happened before some years ago...
Otto, cursing and kicking a everything in his path, sat heavily onto the stool in front of his drum set. Drumming was a form of stress relief. He began pounding away at the drum set, playing the hardest, heaviest and fastest drum riffs he knew.
His playing was loud, angry and passionate.
It went on for an hour.

Cami did not know what to do.
Standing in the doorway of the dorm she shared with Otto she frowned at the drumming which sounded more like he was trying to shatter the set rather than actually play it. Clearly, from looking at his face, something had happened. This was not excess energy that had no outlet this was fueled by something and she had no idea what.
There were two options. One was to interrupt Otto and ask him what was wrong, potentially turning that emotion onto herself and getting something she might not be ready to deal with right now. The second was to turn and shut the door, scowling at anyone that came by to b***h about the noise until he finished. The second was the coward's way out and damn if it didn't sound appealing.
Instead she took steps into the living room, shut the door, and stood in front of the set. Placing two fingers in her mouth she gave a shrill whistle to get his attention.
It did nothing.
Folding her arms she raised her voice, which was a considerable feat, and yelled over the cacophony. "Otto, you are going to have to deal with me or an angry dorm full of people. Take your pick now!"

Cami's voice broke through the furious drumming. He stopped what he was doing, staring up in surprise at the woman raising her voice at him. He grimaced soon after, slamming his drumsticks onto the floor and pushing himself away from his drums. <********'... Maebe! She's stupid! Stupid, stupid girls!" The teen fumed as he made his way to the kitchen to get himself a can of pop to cool down with.

Perhaps she should have expected this at some point. Otto and Maebe, despite having mixed together better than they had before, were still somewhat oil and water. Understanding he didn't mean it she didn't even bother to get upset about him swearing about stupid girls, leaning on the bar counter with a concerned frown. "What happened? I mean I know she made you angry but what did she do?" It didn't take much to make Otto disgruntled but outright angry to this point?
Cami couldn't actually remember seeing him this angry before, actually. It made her just that much more concerned so that she started actually treading carefully. Making him angry with her was the last thing she wanted!

Otto set his pop down a little too hard, spilling some of the delicious liquid in droplets surrounding it.
"She just.... she ********'...." He fidgeted, fumbling to get his cell phone from his pocket to recall the conversation. "She took my board and said she'd rather keep it than touch me again!" He forced the device at Cami, showing off the Direct Messages on Twitter.
"Like, I guess she was teasing but that's ********' cruel, okay!"

Sighing as she got through the conversation it didn't seem much like Maebe was serious because this was something she did often. She was ready to (quietly) back the idea that perhaps he was taking it a little too seriously when she reached the comment about him turning on her. Then, very carefully because broken cell phones were expensive and she did not have much money to replace Otto's when she broke it, Cami set it back on the counter with a click.
"She said she'd rather keep the board so you said you hate her. I understand how you could get upset but did you have to say that to Maebe?" There wasn't blame or recrimination in her voice, just a tired and tense sort of resignation. "I should knock both of your heads together. Drag her up here by her hair, drag you over by your ear, and just..." Her hands made the motion of bashing their heads together the way they deserved.
That was about as far as maturity and reasonableness got Cami before she walked over to one of the couch pillows and hurled it into the ground. "You're both such teenagers! She didn't have to say that but you didn't have to say that either and it's a ******** skateboard!" Without thinking she launched into a wildly-gesticulating tirade in her native Creole, ending with another pillow on the floor.
Had any of them considered how them being at odds would affect her? Probably not. Turning on her heel Cami stalked into the bedroom and threw herself on the bed, drawing one of the many blankets up over herself. Today was over.
She was going back to bed.

A slow dread came over him. He took back his cell phone to review what he'd done. And boy, did he ******** up. That was the absolute worst thing his temper could do. Cami went on a verbal tirade, and Otto sunk his shoulders in shame. She was right. He was acting like a total... well.. teenager. That was bad. This was bad. Bad enough that Cami slipped into another language bad.
Cami left and hid in bed. Otto stood alone with his can of soda.
The guilt was thick in the air.
He rubbed his arms, looking around forlornly and wondering what he ought to do. He was scared to piss off Cami even more. He was scared to go to Maebe and apologize, in case she was beyond saving.
He sniffled, rubbing his eye furiously to rid himself of any tear that might actually form, and stormed out of the dorm.

Sighing at the sound of the front door shutting with force Cami tapped out her message to Maebe before emerging from her cocoon. She wasn't really angry so much as upset at what-could-have-been, the subject of most of her non-English tirade. Otto and Maebe might very well run their course before Otto and Cami or Maebe and Cami came anywhere close to it. She might have to one day deal with the fact that her best friend and her lover were at odds, permanent odds, with each other. It hurt her heart to think of it, it scared her beyond reckoning, but it was something that had to be considered. So she considered what to do when that day came as she cleaned the soda up on the counter, picked the pillows up from the floor, and went back to the big empty bed. Blowing out a long breath, expunging herself of most of her frustration, she pulled out her phone.

Otto stared at the text message after having blown off some steam picking on helpless training dummies. Come Home, it said. Something about it made him want to cry. It was so warm, despite the frigid situation he found himself in. It was just a fight. A bad fight. He'd fix things with Maebe, but not right now. Too cowardly to be brave, he sulked and returned to his dorm where Cami waited.
The door to the bedroom creaked open, as Otto trudged inside. His eyes were red, and his nose matched. The teen dragged himself to the bed, flopping over and worming his way into Cami's arms.
"....m'stupid.." He murmured unhappily.

Worming didn't take much effort since she'd all but opened her arms as wide as they could get the moment he crawled into bed. She felt bad at the way she'd exploded at him but, considering how ridiculous the entire thing had been, she didn't feel entirely unjustified. It would have been easy to tell Otto that he wasn't stupid, because he wasn't, and he knew he wasn't. He'd acted stupidly but then, he wasn't the only one, and that was what she was going to point out.
"You both were stupid but it'll be okay." That was a reassurance she could give him because she would make it work. That was what Cami did -- she made it work. Otto was going to grumpily sulk about for a few days, Maebe would try to isolate herself from them, and Cami would cajole them both out of it. She'd make Otto laugh and smile. She'd lure Maebe upstairs with sweet promises.
And then she would bash their heads together.
Smiling just a little smugly at the thought she snuggled into Otto, kissing his cheek softly. "I'm sorry I yelled at you."

They were both stupid. Yeah... he could handle and deal with that. Still he worried if it would be okay. Maebe was probably more stubborn than he was. She'd take things a lot more personally, and hold a grudge longer. He knew she was sensitive to the whims of others. He knew what he'd said must have hurt her too.
Otto shook his head softly at her apology. "It's okay... I needed it." Not he deserved it. Needed it. He'd needed to be yelled at. He needed to be shown that he wasn't the only victim in this. He'd done something wrong, and he needed to come down. It hurt. A lot. And the guilt was nearly suffocating. But without it, his pride would have taken control. His pride was his fatal flaw.
So that kiss to the cheek with her apology was taken with care. It made him feel safe. Still loved. Still cherished. He'd remain there in her arms, sulking the whole night through. After all, Cami still loved him, but Otto was still miserable. Still upset at himself, and maybe even a little upset at Maebe. At least if he cried here, it was with someone, and not all alone in a training field.
