It was far earlier than Maebe usually showed up, when she walked into Cami and Otto's room and poked her head into all of the rooms to see who was home. She already knew the answer, since she'd checked to make sure Otto wasn't - but she wanted to be sure.

When she popped her head into the bedroom to see Cami asleep on the bed, however, she paused just long enough to admire the view. Cami looked like an angel, lying in that bed, and Maebe's initial plan of bribing her with freshly made breakfast in bed went flying right out the window.

She climbed into that bed instead, right on top of the soft, sleeping body who - hello, she was naked under these sheets. Maebe pulled them off enough to enjoy the view.

She could never get anything done around someone this beautiful.

Cami hadn't though she'd be able to go back to sleep after that nightmare but she was apparently hungover enough to melt back into the blankets and pillows like the useless lump of flesh she was. Her second wake up was about to be much more pleasant than her first, thankfully. Even mostly-asleep she knew the moment that Maebe was close, arms wrapping around the blonde to keep her close, happy to no longer be alone in the big bed that ate up all of Otto's bedroom.

Eventually her lashes fluttered enough to establish that consciousness was returning to the redhead where she lay, messy-haired and in nothing but panties so small as to hardly earn the name, a sleepy smile on her lips. What was painful about that smile was that it was so full of utter adoration that it would have melted even the hardest of hearts. "Mmm, look what I found in my bed. Must've died in the middle of the night 'cause you're too pretty to be anything but an angel." Fingers reached up to tangle in her hair, pulling the other woman down until their lips met in a warm good-morning kiss.

It wasn't until she felt the softness of Maebe's clothes against her skin that she looked down and snickered a bit. "I always end up naked in bed when I'm drunk. Without fail."

Cami, with all of her loving, gentle touches, couldn't yet see the hunger in Maebe's eyes. She wouldn't have long to wait, since it would be obvious in the tone of her voice when she finally spoke. She'd come to the room on a mission, but that mission would have to wait. Now, she couldn't focus on anything but the way her body ached. She couldn't even worry about why Cami had been drunk, yet. She couldn't think.

Pushing herself up to a seated position, Maebe pulled her shirt over her head. "Less talk." She demanded, a desperation evident in the sound of her voice. "Need you right now."

It was an inevitable fact of life, for her - if she walked into a room with a naked Cami sprawled on a bed, Maebe was going to go into overdrive. And she wasn't going to stop until she'd had her fill.

That woke her up. Maebe Grace Bertrand taking her clothes off could have woken the dead from their slumber though, considering where they were located at that point in time, she rather hoped it did not. Pushing up to sit on her elbows it wasn't just Maebe who had a moment of admiration as the Sun watched the morning light shine on porcelain skin, a deep sigh slipping from between her lips. Still, it was always fun to play, so she raised an eyebrow curiously.

"Now? Right now? Well...I suppose..." Her tone was reluctant but her mouth and hands were anything but. She'd missed Maebe, missed the taste and feel of her, and so there was little talking for a time as they distracted each other thoroughly.

Later, fingers still tangled in blonde hair (one of their favorite places to rest) she tugged playfully. "Is it alright to talk now? Are you sated, Maebe Grace?" Fun. It always had to be fun even if it was passionate, even if it was languid, it had to be fun. But it was easy to be fun when someone was so easily, beautifully sexual as her girlfriend was. Nothing to be awkward about unless it was the fact Cami was worried that one day she'd lose that beautiful girl in her bed and in her heart.

Which she always was.

"I missed you."

"No." Maebe sounded tired, and a little woozy from how hard she'd come at Cami in an unexpected desperation, but despite how sated she sounded, she was already curling back over the woman and leaning in to bury herself in Cami's neck. "I'm not ready to stop. Not yet."

She hadn't actually known, or even recognized, just how much she'd missed Cami. It hadn't even been that long - maybe two days, at the most. But something inside of her broke the moment she was back in her lovers arms, and like a bursting dam, she was unable to stop herself.

She nuzzled her face against that warm caramel skin, and something resembling tears were rubbed away. Her heart hurt so much.

"I missed you too." She admitted, which no small amount of emotion in her voice. "I'll take my time this time, I promise."

Almost as if she could feel the ache Cami's hand moved to press itself over Maebe's heart as lips lingered on her skin. Her own began to throb, mimicking the pain in a way that was so sweet to her. The ache meant that she loved, that she loved strongly, and she welcomed it. Touches lingered, the moment drew out like a spool of thread, spinning and spinning as it moved towards becoming fully unraveled.

Cami felt like she was drunk again with the way her head floated off of her shoulders, the way her limbs felt heavy and clumsy by the time they finished. Now instead of tangled in Maebe's hair it was their fingers that were twined together, the only part of Cami that was moving was her thumb as it passed over the pulse point in the Moon's wrist. The hammer of it made her smile in much the way she had when Maebe had walked into the room, so tender and full of affection.

Turning her face, so that her nose brushed lightly against the curve of her sweetheart's jaw, she murmured almost inaudibly. "I do love you."

And that was the problem. She knew just how much the angel underneath her loved her, and she'd never been loved so thoroughly before. It filled cups that were too small and cracked to hold. It overflowed vessels that crumbled at its power. She felt like she was trying to empty out water a bucket at a time, as tidal waves came crashing in. She had never been more lost.

But more astoundingly, she was refusing to give up.

"I know." She whispered, pulling away to press kiss after kiss against Cami's lips. "I don't know why, but I don't want you to stop." She wanted Cami to prove everything wrong, holding her hand until the day she took her last breath. She wanted Cami to be the one there beside her, telling her; see, Maebe. I told you so. I told you I would always be there.

Even if she wasn't.

"Can I ask you something?" She'd forgotten the promise she'd just made, distracted by the reason she'd come in the first place. "I don't know where else to turn. I just want to know, or understand, how you can be sure." Her hands flexed gently within Cami's. "How do you make something last forever?"

Sometimes Camille felt old. Older than she should have at twenty-two because her mother had always treated her as if she'd been old enough for the secrets of that very strange universe Vanessa lived in. The secrets of this universe, however, were still mysteries to Cami. She didn't know the answer to Maebe's question, didn't know how to make her understand how love could be something that lasted and could abide throughout any tribulation.

Silence stretched, a thoughtful one, as she puzzled through how to answer such a heavy question. Reaching up with her free hand to brush some of the mess of hair she'd made from Maebe's face, looking into her gloriously blue eyes, she smiled. It was a smile that mocked Cami even as she tried to sound like she was sure of herself for she wasn't, not at all. "How do you make anything, Maebe baby? You work at it. You believe in it. You watch it struggle but you give it everything you can to help it grow."

Leaning in she stole a kiss, lingering over it with the emotions she was feeling, giving them to Maebe and hoping that they would be enough. Always hoping that she could be enough. She didn't mind sharing, wouldn't have minded a lack of monogamy, because she knew that hearts all needed different things. One person could not be everything to another. But she wanted to be enough to fill that part of Maebe that she was designed for. Needed to be enough.

"It can last because even as you fly towards the sun I'll be anchoring you down to the earth so that you don't fly too high, so that you don't get too close. If you trust me to be good for you and not bad, if you can realize that I trust you the same way, we can hold on." She was determined to make it work, determined to last. Pausing she gave a lopsided look. "And maybe we won't be lovers forever but I'll always have love for you. I will always hold on." Because that was what Cami did. She held on until it was unwise to, harmful to, stupid to.

Yet she believed that if she just held on long enough, held on tightly enough, that she could make anything happen. Naivete like hers was rare. Why? Because usually by this point it had been shattered by reality. Hers? Hers had been reinforced. A defense mechanism against her world and the things in it that had terrified her. Now she was using it to make others strong and it felt so good.

Maebe had hoped, frivolously, that there was an easy answer to her question. But of course there wasn't, and she wasn't so terribly disappointed when Cami tried to explain it and ended up making it sound like a plant. She giggled, pressing herself down onto the girl hard. "I thought you were the sun I was flying towards. I could have sworn I was burning up for you. How can you somehow also be my anchor? You'd have to be some sort of," She leaned in and kissed Cami's nose affectionately. "Miracle."

It was clear by the way she said it, that she believed that to be the case.

"I trust you, Cami." She confirmed, but it was hard for her to believe that Cami could trust her the same way. She didn't feel like she deserved it. But that self-doubt was pushed away by a sentence she'd never actually considered before, and hoped she never would again.

"You'd still love me, even if we weren't.." Her brows furrowed. "This?"

Could people really do that?

Cami's nose wrinkled not from the kiss but the idea that she was some sort of miracle. Secretly she loved the comparison even though there was a part of her that quailed a bit. How could she live up to something as sacred as a miracle? Didn't that doom her to disappoint Maebe with the fact that Cami was incredibly human, incredibly fallible?

The blonde's assertion that trust was mutual had the Sun glowing much like she was accused of being. "Maybe I am. Maybe I'm not. Perhaps I'm not your anchor but the gravity that's pulling you in?" Thinking about it for a moment she grinned, nipping lightly at soft skin. "I like that. I could live with that. Maybe your wings'll melt and you'll just have to stay with me." That appealed to Cami on so many levels it was a little gross and terrifying. Not for Maebe, for Cami would never hurt her willingly, but for Cami.

Such potential for pain!

Answering her question the redhead nodded. "Don't mistake me though, I want to be like this as long as you'll have me. But if you decided you didn't want me anymore I'd respect that and still want to spend time with you. I'd still care about you." Sliding arms around Maebe she pulled her as close as possible. "I love you. That doesn't go away."

Cami was a force of magnetism and gravity that Maebe would never be able to pull away from, and she was more than happy to fall into orbit around the woman for the rest of her life. But this was again so confusing, because she never thought she'd want to do anything for an entire lifetime, and yet here she was easily desiring Cami for the rest of her days. Why was it so easy, with her?

Why was it so easy to trust that smile?

A sinking feeling of dread started to seep into Maebe, and she stared incredulously at Cami's expression, her own pinched with focus. She didn't want an answer to the question that had suddenly slid into her subconscious, but she couldn't stop herself from trying to read past Cami's easy smile.

"I'm not going to decide that, Cami." Maebe told her, carefully. "I'm not going to stop wanting you. Not even if you left me." Her eyes narrowed. "You don't have to be okay with the idea of me giving up."

The easy smile was suddenly not so easy as it faded around the edges, became rippled a bit like a crumpled piece of paper after it was smoothed out again. "I'm not." She said it in a voice hushed because, to her, it was a betrayal of one of her core tenets: respect the choices of others. "I hate the idea of you giving up on me. I hate thinking that there might be a day you don't see me and come over to run hands along my curves like you can't stop yourself. I can't imagine something so painful so I don't but..." She looked so lost and young for a moment, like a child who had forgotten where in the store to meet their parent.

"What else can I do?" It hurt even to talk about this because it implied that Maebe Grace was going to give up at some point, like she was a ticking time bomb waiting to happen. "I'm torn all the time. Part of me wants to respect your need for space, wants to wait patiently for you to come to me when you're ready, but the part of me that's starting to get bigger and bigger wants to make you come." She couldn't help the rueful glint at the unintentional innuendo.

It was clear that Cami was troubled as she continued to spill out her feelings, all of them likely unwanted and uncomfortable. Like she had always been. "I want you near me. Not because I'm so afraid that you're going to walk off and never come back but because there's a need inside of me simply to be close to you as often as possible. I've never been so...possessive." There was a weight to the word that made her spine shiver with it, the dirty admission.

She wanted to keep Maebe Grace Bertrand locked up in a place where only she and Otto could find her. Wanted to keep her close behind glass, safe and beautiful where she belonged, to be admired and cherished. Wanted to smash the glass and damn the shards that stuck in her skin because they were worth it to touch such beauty. "I'm not going to leave you."

And there she recognized how easily a smile that beautiful could fade, and familiarity rang within her. It wasn't as if Cami was saying anything outlandishly unbelievable, but Maebe suddenly wondered if the girl had ever been truly happy at all. Was she asking advice from someone who was just as lost as she was? Or maybe not as lost.. just not as grounded as Maebe had assumed she was.

She brought both of her hands up to brush Cami's hair back, and held her face between both hands. She even managed to keep from commenting on the obvious double entendre, though she felt an urge to request that Cami fulfill that urge right now.

Cami wasn't afraid that Maebe was going to walk away, she'd said. She should have been - Otto was. But she wasn't, and part of that had to do with the fact that she wanted to respect Maebe's wishes despite her own. A selfless act based on the need to be.. fair. She wondered if Otto's reluctance to force her hand had anything to do with this same silly notion of fairness and respect.

She found herself to be the cruelest, most selfish of the three, and she felt the absence of guilt for accepting that to be the most horrific realization of all.

"I've never been this possessive, either. But I think I've been worse than either of you about keeping my possessiveness in check." Maebe would have easily locked them up for her eyes only, if that had been an option. But they refused to do that to her. For Otto, he refused out of fear of losing her. For Cami, it sounded like she was more frightened of losing herself. Possessiveness hadn't been a defining feature until now.

And Maebe wanted to preen at the fact that she'd elicited such a need in her girlfriend. It was terrible, and counter-productive. She felt it anyway.

"I won't leave you." Maebe murmured out, low and throaty voiced. "But." She felt a little guilt at admitting this out loud. "I like. That you're possessive. And. I want it." Her voice shook with something a little too seductive for the moment. "A lot."

PostPosted: Thu Jul 31, 2014 10:14 pm

Teeth nipped into her bottom lip, worrying it with a small amount of confusion and no small amount of anxiety. "But you're not a possession. You can only truly possess things and you are so very much not a thing. You're not something I can own utterly and that I want to own you in such a way just..." She shook her head, clearly appalled at herself. "I'm sorry. It's a horrible urge and I don't know what to do with it. I just keep trying to push it down and hope that it just eventually suffocates." Cami could have told her, had she been less horrified at her own longings, that the only thing suffocating was her, not her urges.

Had she ever been truly happy? No. She'd tried to be, striven to be, but had only ever found scraps of happiness and a feeling she'd tried to force into the mold. Here she thought she was truly approaching happiness, came closest on the mornings that she woke up with Maebe's face buried in her chest, Otto spooning the Moon from behind so that his hand brushed along Cami's hip. She felt home and it was that happiness that made her always want to sing.

Pulling her down for a kiss that was searing hot with Camille's shame even as she indulged in that moment of possessiveness she whispered, fiercely. "Don't leave me."

Maebe wanted to argue. She wanted to demand that Cami own her there on the bed that very moment. Her mind was clouded with lust and desire for things that weren't helping their situation at all. She had horrible urges, too - but they were urges that meshed so perfectly with the ones Cami was currently feeling guilty for, that she just wanted to give in and say make me your pet.

"I don't want you to suffocate it. It's not horrible. Why does everybody think it's so horrible to want something so bad it makes you a little crazy sometimes? If you want to own me so desperately, Cami, do it in little ways. Do it in ways that won't make you feel guilty. Because I want you to want me like that, I want both of you to want me like that." She pouted thickly. "But so far all I get is a bunch of no this is wrong you should be your own person bullshit. I mean, I am my own person. You're not going to change that by pinning me down and telling me I have to stay with you once in a while."

Maebe didn't see the world in the same way as her lovers did, and it frustrated her to know that this desire that was cropping up because of her was being labeled as wrong. If it was wrong, she didn't know if she wanted to be right.

"I'm not a thing. But I am yours. Everybody's so goddamn scared of demanding anything from me that they're - "

This was all her fault, in the end. Maybe if she wasn't so determined to keep her privacy, neither of them would be treating her like this. She didn't know. And she didn't know if she was ready to give all that up for what she wanted, either.

Maebe chuckled, and flopped down helplessly against Cami's body. For all the joy love brought, it was really damn complicated, too.
