In the northern part of town where the ocean met the beach, two figures sat upon the edge of the pier. One humanoid figure held a long pole and whipped it overhead before casting line and bait into the salty water. It made a lonely plunk! sound before sinking below the surface. The other figure was four-legged and looked like it had been pulled from the sea and later grew legs.

Yaima felt like she had been up long enough to have grown legs from fins. She yawned and stretched. This weekend morning was fading away but they had been out here for hours and hours already. She grumbled and leaned against Carlos' back. Fishing was so incredibly boring, but Carlos wanted fish for dinner.

"It's starting to look like 'no bites' today, huh, Yaima? I don't expect we'll be out for too much longer."

She mumbled softly and idly watched people pass by on their way to weekend activities. He had said that an hour or two ago, too. Today was just a slow day. But at least the weather was nice for it. Perhaps if he didn't catch his dinner, Carlos would walk with her down the beach. That would be nice.

Hope this will work all right for Kirsi!

The water near the land was much different than the water Kirsi had grown up in. Where her home was cold and dim, this was warmer and bright. There was much more in the water as well. Small fish, those green clouds, a green bottle, some of those things the humans wore on their feet... So many things! With the ground being so close to the water surface, there was also a fog of particles floating around, sometimes making things difficult to see.

As such, she was startled when she swam face first into... something? She blinked and reached up to grab the string in front of her face. It was very difficult to see, almost like a long hair; but it wasn’t hers. She’d never seen one of these before! Maybe she could take it to- Oh! Something was on the end here! It was shiny! Her fingers followed the curves of the bait, inspecting it curiously. Whatever was at the other end of the line wouldn’t let her take it though. Why would this be tied up? Was it trying to get away? Had it caused trouble?

Oh dear, she's going to get hooked if she isn't careful! Dx
Sorry for the delay!

Yaima was jostled from a half-doze as Carlos startled. "Hey, something's nibbling at the hook!" he exclaimed in just below a stage whisper. He was a fair fisherman, so he waited to give the pole a good yank until he felt what he thought was a fish biting down on the bait and trying to swim away.

Meanwhile, in her surprise Yaima hopped to her feet and shook off before peeking over the edge of the pier. She did not like the sport at all, but dinner was dinner and she had to see for herself.
I hope it hasn't swallowed it, she thought. While leaning closer and tilting her head, she thought she caught a glimpse of something white in the murky water, perhaps even larger than a typical fish. A pokémon, perhaps? Wait, that's a...!

"POR!" she asserted loudly at her trainer before diving into the water.

"Yaima, what are you doing?" But as soon as he saw what, or rather whom, he had caught, he swore under his breath and let out plenty of slack in the line. He could only hope that the finned person below had not been injured too badly!

Once she was under the surface, Yaima identified a long finned tail designed for swimming, but a more human-looking upper-half, like a mermaid.
"Hey! Can you hear me under water? Can you understand me?" she called out. "If you can, then let me help so you don't get hurt by my trainer's fishing line!" Despite the situation, there was something rather amusing about a human capturing a pokémon child. Or... was she older? She looked almost as big as a grown human!

Admiring her little find, Kirsi was slow to react to the sudden pull. Her brow knit at the sharp pain in one of her fingers, and she cupped her hand to her chest. The thing had bit her! Why'd it do that? And where had it gone?

As she looked around for the tiny biter, her eyes lifted in surprise at the voice. Now it was talking to her?!

She turned, and looked at the pokemon in surprise. Oh! "I hear, dew," she replied with a nod, though the pokemon was talking quite fast. Don't get hurt? Her lips pursed into a pout and she stuck out her finger for the other to see the gash bleeding into the water. She'd nearly been hooked solid, but it'd been just enough to tear through her skin rather than stick. "It bit me. Little thing."

Yuck. This water wasn't very pleasant to talk in...
