Pod duty was a blessing and a curse for Before. On the one hand, it was a fairly easy chore, just sitting around watching the sleepers continue to sleep. On the other hand, she was one of the sleepers, and every time he laid eyes on her pod, his heart tightened in his chest. And Before was sure it had nothing to do with heartburn or a minor heart attack, Vanna would have told him otherwise.
What made the duty bearable was that he wasn't alone.
He didn't have a regular schedule and had different duty partners so he didn't really have any expectations when he sat down at the monitors. Snacks and drinks on hand, Before settled down to wait.

Before didn't have to wait long. Jude wandered in with some books in his arms to read during quiet lulls in case his partner was a particularly chatty individual. Upon sighting Before he paused to nod at the other young man before he seated himself, "Another day another duty?"
They had had their falling outs together. Jude often trying to encourage Before to not linger on certain moods and what not - the attempts often ended in violence from what he could recall.
Now everything seemed cool between the two. Though they didn't spend very much time together, "Been doing alright?"

Before angled his face towards his duty partner and gave the man a small smile and a nonchalant shrug. "Eh, things could be better, could be worse. Still haven't gotten the hang of souffles though," he grinned wryly while shaking his head in mild regret. Training, duties, chores, and missions, he'd been doing his best to keep himself busy. Idle time led to introspection and Before on introspection tended to send him into endless-spiral-of-despair mode. The downside to it was he wasn't left with enough time to work on that tricky recipe.
He gestured to the books Jude had with him, "Whatcha got there?" Before asked, craning his neck to get a look at the titles on the spines.

Jude let out a small snort of amusement, "You can get it," he said simply, he was trying to be supportive with the fellow Hunter rather than putting him down or teasing him on the subject. He pretty much moved to settle in the empty seat and laid out the books, "Just stuff to glance over when I can't handle staring at the faces anymore..."
It took him a while to be able to come down again after...
He shifted his shoulders to discard the thoughts, "Just uh. Y'know.. Sometimes you just sit and wonder too much, right?"

Yes. Before did know what Jude meant. The faces weren't just faces to him anymore, or at least one of the faces, and the Mist kept his focus trained on his duty partner rather than on the screen. In case he saw something, someone that he probably shouldn't. Gross-sobbing was unbecoming in and of itself, even more so when done in the presence of a hunter he wasn't very close with.
"Yeah, totes," he nodded, arms folded across his chest in an attempt at looking sagely. Only it was clearly exaggerated and most likely had him looking more like a fool. "Wondering mos def leads to wandering thoughts, and who knows how far your mind gets before it gets lost completely."
Gibberish already, Before? Or are you trying for forced humor?
