Dohi paced around a stone, her mind mixed. They Bird clan had continued on their migratory pattern when the wanidatsi left. This was how it was supposed to be, and yet...this was the first real time that he was gone, and all leadership fell to her shoulders. Though the wanidatsi wasn't the alu'nadi, it was easy to share the burden of leader with him. She had grown to accustomed to asking him for assistance that to have him absent was...scary. Her saftey net was gone.

Mother was around, thank goodness, and so was Yinehi. Her brothers were around, though she still wondered how long it would take for a couple of them to get married. Sigh. Was this what being a grown up felt like?

She kind of hated it.

She continued to pace around the rock, a small trail of dust following behind her as she walked.

Yinehi was at the end of a pleasant morning of hunting, walking along cheerfully without any particular path in mind- until she spotted the rather dusty feet of her sister. She paused and watched her go back and forth, back and forth. It was very hard to tell if she was the kind of troubled that wanted company or not, but Yinehi decided if she didn't want to be bothered then she ought to have picked a more secret place to pace and look worried.

So she wandered up, but slowly.

"Dohi!" she called, giving her sister plenty of warning that she was about to be interrupted.

The call gave Dohi enough time to snap out of her circling thoughts. She suddenly stopped, her ears swiveling around as she looked to who called for her.

"Yinehi!"

Well, at least there was someone around who she could freely talk to. She shook off her dirty paws and trotted to meet up with her light-coloured sister, her face clearly pleased to see her. Dohi didn't like to dump her problems on Yinehi, so she was always trying to learn how to handle them herself. This one was a bit hard for her, though...

"How are you? Feeling any freer since Dad's been gone?" she asked, testing the waters with her question.

She was relieved to see Dohi's happy reaction to her approach, though she would have been surprised if she had reacted any other way. But, if she were honest with herself, she didn't really understand the kind of pressure that was on her sister. Sometimes she wondered if her sister really did, though, with the wanidatsi always right there. Well.. almost always.

She snickered at the question.

"Free as ever, doesn't change my day much," she answered with a grin, "How about you? Any plans to steer us off on some new, exciting path just because daddy's not here to stop us?"

Well, at least Yinehi was as happy as ever.

"No, silly," Dohi laughed, though there was a bit of a strain in it. "Though, that would give him another heart attack. I think that the Wolf clan is keeping him busy enough." She didn't know much of what was going on, only that he was with the Wolf clan right now.

"I hope everything is ok. I remember him leaving for short spans when we were younger, but this seemed like a bigger issue.."

Yinehi kept on smiling but she was a bit disappointed there were no safe, fun ways to mess with their father while he was gone. Well, for when he came back. Then she frowned when Dohi turned the conversation to wondering about the Wolf Clan. She'd noticed Ukahada Waya had been kind of tense during the festival, she had given him most of her outrageous feather collection before the clans all went their separate ways to try to help them get started in the whole crafting thing, but he'd never said anything was wrong. Definitely nothing seemed bad enough to need the wanidatsi for a long time.

"I dunno, it must be if he still hasn't come back," she said, "Have you tried sending your bird to find out? Isn't that what they're for? Keeping in touch?"

She knew well enough that the clans must assume they were spies for the wanidatsi. Yinehi didn't really believe that herself, but she did like the general idea of using spies.

She sighed. "I worry that he'll freak out and run home if I send Wicasa out to ask him how its going. You know how he is, he always has to be everywhere to help. I think he takes the old stories to heart too much."

Sure, this may not be the Ela'wadiyi's original lands, but...it seemed like there were no plans to return. So wasn't this home? Shouldn't they make sure that nothing would happen to these lands? It all seemed like something that would never affect them here, with how large the Ela'wadiyi have grown.

"Anyway, you should be the one to give him a scare. Get married or something," she suddenly blurted out, laughing at the thought of getting married without her father's input!

"You don't tell your spy to go ask what's going on!"

Yinehi laughed, still enjoying the idea of spying but getting an extra laugh out of spying on their father. Never mind that it probably wouldn't work, he was far too perceptive and he was far too familiar with Wicasa. Perhaps she could convince one of her bird friends to go see what's up.

Then Dohi made a ridiculous suggestion and Yinehi gasped.

"Hey!" she said, pouting, "There isn't anybody to marry 'round here."

Dohi laughed. "Hey, Wicasa isn't a spy!" She thought that maybe in other clans they thought the birds were spies, but her beloved eagle was anything but. "He's just here to help me. And I doubt he'd get on my bad side..." She didn't need to get mean often, but she knew that she wouldn't let anyone push her around. Probably the side effect of having four older brothers!

"There aren't, huh?" Dohi giggled. "The only decent males around here are our brothers," she said with a toss of her head. "I swear, all those other females just don't know what they're missing."

Sometimes she wished that they would all stay in Bird forever, but the chances of that were slim. She tried to keep her sad thoughts to herself, since custom would never change just because she wanted to keep all her brothers close.

Yinehi made an exaggerated face of disgust at Dohi's comment about their brothers, sticking her tongue out at her sister.

"I don't know what you're talking about, they're clearly the worst of the bunch!" she exclaimed, puffing herself up and shaking her head-- but ultimately deflating as quickly. She just couldn't keep it up.

"Too bad we didn't notice anybody interesting during the festival, that's the best time to think about that," she said, though they had already discussed that at length during the festival, "That could have been just as funny, telling dad then. After all, he does the Rain Ceremony."

"True, true...." she sighed. "I kind of wish I had fancied someone, but no one seemed that interesting. Am I getting too old?" she laughed, though she did worry a bit. Maybe she never would get married...but that might be ok. Who knew.

"All I know is that Dad is not going to take being a grandfather well, once that happens! I think Mother can't wait, really." She would fear the mountains moving once that happened! He liked to deny his age, even if he wasn't that old...but sometimes it was hard to tell how old Skan was, with a winged-Grandfather running around younger than Skan.

"....y'know, our family is really weird," she added on with a shake of her head.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 27, 2014 5:44 pm

"We are not getting too old!" Yinehi exclaimed with a snort, genuinely surprised that Dohi went there so suddenly. They were grown up but hardly past their prime-- hardly in their prime, in fact. They might be eager but they weren't actually rushed.

"I dunno if our family is weirder than any other family," she said, tilting her head thoughtfully and beaming at her sister, "But maybe it's a good thing none of us have rushed into the whole marriage thing."

"I dunno, Grandfather and Grandmother kind of make our family weird," Dohi laughed.

"I guess we're not in a hurry. But...heyyy...maybe there'll be some interesting males joining in the next festival." Her eyes drooped down as she leaned over to give Yinehi a shove on her shoulder. "That's when you pounce on them before another female can!"

Dohi laughed. "Then Dad can freak out."

Yinehi laughed, shaking her head.

"And here I thought you were looking worried when I came over, seems like you're doing just fine," she said, "Your plans are a bit long, though. You might want to work on that, figure out something shorter and simpler."

She nodded seriously.

Dohi made a face. "Long plans?" She didn't really think so, but Yinehi was such an 'in the moment' and 'go with the flow'...perhaps that's really how she was looking at it.

"I guess you're right, though I don't want to admit it..." Dohi grumbled, but there was a smirk on her face. "I guess we can check in with Mom, see how she's doing without Dad," she laughed.
