Even though his long search to find his senshi had finally come to an end a couple of months, it hadn't stopped Liryn from continuing with his night time excursions. The little tabby bobtail liked wandering the city at night, Destiny City was big enough that there was some place to explore and some nook to poke into.
He was actually on his way to meet Athene though, the dark-haired eternal had actually asked Liryn on his evening patrol this time, which was progress given that Liryn had pretty much been having to invite himself along. The summer evening was pleasant, warm but without the super hot heat from earlier that had made him want to slip into the apartment where Athene lived when he was being Arian and flop out under the bed and maybe continue his project with the dark-haired teen's alarm clock - well the latest one anyway since something had gone wrong with the last one he'd fiddled with and it had stopped working.
Athene had suggested that they meet in an alleyway close to the night life district and as Liryn got closer and closer to the agreed rendezvous point, he couldn't help but notice how many of the buildings around appeared to be abandoned, nothing but empty silhouettes against the night time skyline.
With some double-checking he decided, it made for a nice place to power up and he could see why Athene had picked this place for them to meet up.
And now that Athene starting to actually ask him along on his evening patrols, then maybe Liryn could finally convince the dark-haired eternal to let him see his asteroid.
Okay so Liryn had been to the Moon and so the Moon had been great and he'd gotten to meet quite a few new faces, but it didn't stop the tabby bobtail from wanting to see the asteroid from which his senshi took his name.

Curling her finger around a stray strand of hair Ate watched Liryn walk in and out of the shadows, her eyes following the felines grace as it slipped past building and post towards the most desperate areas of Destiny City. Here people lived for the moment; their actions frenzied their decisions powered by greed, lust and abuse. It was what drew Ate night after night into this dingy good for nothing area. It was filth and corruption and she loved it. She sat with her back resting against a building her legs dangling over the side of the wall as she waited to see what the Guardian was up too. It had been complete coincidence that she had spotted him. In his cat form - he only leaked a small amount of energy, and it wasn’t enough for her to be able to hunt him down on, no, this was just pure luck that she not only spotted him but recognized the cat from the warehouse. She still wore those scratches he had so kindly left her with.
Kicking off from the wall she jumped down, her heels tapping on the concrete floor as she landed and took off into a sprint, her body following the route she had planned out above to cut the kitten off before he slipped into an abandoned building unseen. There was no need for another Guardian cat in the world and although she had never heard of a successful killing of a Guardian she was sure she could claim some essential parts as a trophy. Maybe without his eyes he wouldn’t be so willing to scratch his betters.
Turning a corner she skidded to a stop, he had just entered this alley, his feet making little echoing sounds as he made his way further in. She didn’t need to go any further now. Black hair falling around her face she used the shadows to her advantage making her seem cloaked in the darkness as she brushed her fingers against the grimy walls. She brought her head up slightly, her eyes glaring at the cat though heavy bangs as she whistled slow and steady to attract his attention. It was the theme from the movie kill bill, like it had some sick connotation to what she was about to do the kitten. She continued to whistle until the feline realized where she was and what, was about to happen.
It was at some point as he trotted through the quiet alleyways that Liryn picked up on the chaos aura, although the little bobtail would have been hard pressed to miss it - although not at the same level of sheer oppressive darkness that he had felt back in the warehouse the night that the Negaverse had decided to attack the Dark Mirror, it was still plenty strong which ruled out it coming from a Lieutenant.
Actually from his odds and ends experience of chaotic auras it didn't feel like an officer's aura and it didn't feel like a youma aura either, which left one other option - a corrupt senshi.
Liryn trotted on. That there was, going by the aura, a corrupt senshi close by in the vicinity wasn't something that little bobtail was going to let deter him from his path and his movements were unhurried as he kept on the move, although he shifted his movements in an attempt to stick to what shadowed areas he could.
It seemed to be working, until Liryn crossed into the next alleyway and realised that the aura was almost on top of him, the taint of corruption strong enough to make his fur want to p***k up.
Not a super then.
Even without the aura, the whistling was enough to pinpoint the corrupted senshi's presence further down the alley and although Liryn had never seen Kill Bill which meant that the reference was lost on him, the little bobtail couldn't miss the fact that his current path took him right past where the corrupted eternal appeared to be waiting.
Not that he planned to let that stop him either - corrupted senshi didn't scare him.
He padded forward a step, then another, purplish eyes peering in the direction of where the dark aura blazed and then he saw her and recognised her as the horrible, nasty corrupt senshi from the night of the city wide black out and his fur bristled.
"What are you doing here?" If Ate was hoping for fear then the annoyed tone to his usually cheerful voice was probably something of a disappointment.

The whistling stopped as soon as Liryn spoke, her form emerging fully into the limited light of the alley and she smiled, smiled pearly white teeth as if he was an old friend.
"Why am enjoying the sights and sounds of the city! Did you know someone has vomited just over that wall? Beautiful isn't it, so many worthy people to protect..." She said this all with a heavy coat of sarcasm. she did in fact associated with those people quite closely, the drunken ones, but even she would get tired of protecting them all the time. It was why she didnt. No one deserved to live if they couldn't defend themselves, just like Mr Kitty here. "And if you had so rightly forgotten, me and you have unfinished business." She stared at him hard, a sneer coming over the lips that had been so friendly seconds before. "You owe me a star seed cat. It can be yours or that girly little senshi you keep on sniffing around, but either way, i want it and I want it now."
She approached him, eyes gleaming with the possibility of snuffing this cats life out once and for all. She would enjoying breaking his legs and watching him suffer.

Liryn hadn't been particularly impressed by the corrupted senshi's display of fake friendliness, brief as it was and he outright bristled as she talked about starseeds.
"I don't owe you anything" he snapped, fur fluffing up, making him look like a small fluff ball as a side result. "And you better stay away from Athene's starseed."
There was no way that he was going to let the nasty, horrible corrupted senshi get her hands on his senshi's starseed again - at least not if he could help it and he was quite happy to face off against the corrupt senshi if needs be to get the point across.
It didn't occur to Liryn that facing off against a corrupted senshi wasn't exactly sensible, especially as in this case said corrupted senshi also appeared to be out for his blood.

"Ohhhh" Ate mocked as she continued to walk forward the noise of her heels echoing between the walls that surrounded them. "Little bit touchy tonight aren't we?" She didnt wait for an answer as she weighed up the feline, her eyes darting over his star before locking his sight to hers, his eyes beautiful even in this limited light. She didnt want him to unleash that power, not even if it meant he signaled his presence to half the city. She had no wish to take on a full head beam tonight, there was a reason the Guardians used it as a last resort and that was because it always worked.
"Why dont I just make him my slave then hmmm? Save his precious starseed by wrapping Metalia sweet taint all over it. I wont be kind to him though kitty, I will make him hurt every day." She bit the bottom of her lip as if caught in a flush of ecstasy, her mind running over what she could do to the long haired cutie, his locks being the the first thing to go as she snipped away at him. She waited for the reaction in Liryn, that moment where he would lose control and dash towards her. She was ready and when he pounced she would end his miserable life in seconds, her excitement gaining the better of her as she clenched and unclenched her hands, her need to hurt him building.
"Call out to him kitty, kitty, let him watch me end his precious guardian."
If Atë's intention was to rile Liryn up, then her plan was surely succeeding and the more she talked was the more he bristled.
As an intimidation technique it was probably zero effective as it only served to make him look even more like a puffball, however as a state to his emotions it was probably super effective given that Liryn wasn't even trying to hide his upset.
The final straw was when she talked about tainting Athene's starseed, about making him suffer and with an upset hiss he launched himself at her with claws out as he yowled "You will not!" He wasn't going to let her – even if it meant having to let her feel his claws again.

Just as planned Atë saw the rage build up behind Liryn's eyes, the felines body respond to her words like a missile ready to launch. She had been in enough cat fights to know their body movements and Liryn couldn't have been more obvious if he had started to grind the ground with his hind quarters before pouncing. She waited for his attack, his lithe body making short work of the distance between them as he launched himself at her, all fur and claws and pent up rage.
It all happened in slow motion, she watched him as he arched though the air, his nails poised and ready to scratch as soon as skin was available to him. Atë could have respected the guardian for his grace even in this moment, where Lyssa would have already fallen short Liryn's jump had carried him swiftly to his target as he landed on Atë chest, his claws digging into her shoulder and neck.
She couldn't help but yell as the razor sharp needles opened flesh and began to bleed but even with the intense pain she couldn't stop the laughter from coming next. She had him. He had purposely come to her without her even moving a muscle and now he was as close as she needed for her plan.
She had him and it was all to easy.
Bringing both hands round Atë grabbed the back of Liryn's neck with one before using the other to grab hold of both front paws. Pulling him from her she held hit, her grip tight and unyielding, enough to hurt and bruise if he tried to escape from her clutch. She knew it would be easy, trying to hold Lyssa like this in days gone by had only worked a number of times, but Atë only needed it to work this once.
"Ha! Filthy mongrel! Time to reunite you with your precious space caldron!" She turned on her heel and faced the brick wall beside them, her mind planning to use ever last ounce of strength to smash him against the wall.

Liryn launched himself at the corrupt senshi, making short work of the small distance between them, claws flashing out ready to swipe.

It didn't stop him from getting a good swipe in, but he'd played into her hands and no matter how much he tried to wriggle he was well and truly caught and in such a way that he couldn't even use the kitty beam on her.
It didn't stop him from trying to get out of her grip though, his body struggling and jerking, despite the unyielding grip that bruised and hurt.
It was no good - his kitty strength was simply no match for that of an eternal - the corrupted senshi's voice mocking as she turned on a heel, her movement causing him to get a good glimpse of the brick wall by them...
And then an interruption occurred in the form of a short dark-haired eternal senshi. Athene.

Liryn's late.
Despite not being sure how time passed for cats, Athene was pretty sure that the amount of time he had been waiting in the alley for the little tabby bobtail aka his patrol partner for the night had edged into late territory - actually it had edged into late territory ages ago - 20 minutes ages ago to be precise.
Athene wasn't sure what to do, although he knew he obviously couldn't stay in the alleyway sipping at his cup of take-out coffee and waiting all night. It had taken a further 5 minutes or so and a half empty cup of coffee before he'd decided to finally hit the patrol beat, the simple satchel he carried gently slapping his side as he walked.
Liryn had the general area where he was planning to patrol this evening if the small cat caught up to him - well it wouldn't be the first time since meeting the bobtail that a solitary patrol had turned joint in the form of a furry companion, given the fact that said small cat didn't seem to have any problem popping up from wherever.
Besides it wasn't as if he could hide his aura whilst powered up and an eternal's aura wasn't exactly the most subtle thing.
An eternal's aura not being subtle kind of worked both ways, which is why when he'd picked up the aura of another eternal Athene had ditched the by then empty coffee cup and shifted his route in an attempt to try and follow it, the aura feeling like one that belonged to a Negaverse senshi.
Despite the fact that tracking auras wasn't exactly an exact science it had ended up being surprisingly easy as the aura seemed to be pretty much staying one place.
Although it was the what that worried Athene, given that his encounters with those who counted themselves part of the Dark Kingdom had never been friendly.
He hadn't been expecting to come across Atë, her voice taunting as she spoke to something small and wriggling held tight in her grip.
A cat. My god she's got a cat in her hands. Is she... Did she just say Space Cauldron? Does she really mean to...
But there was no time to think through options, she was already starting to turn towards a wall and so Athene opted for the only option he could think off on such short notice - he launched himself at the other senshi in an attempt to try and tackle her, whilst trying the part of him mind that reminded him that on their last meeting she had killed him until Liryn and Iris and her unknown team mate had managed to save him.

She hadn’t noticed Athene creeping up on them, his aura blurred by the powerful guardian as she held him close to stop the struggling feline from escaping. She could almost hear the snap of bones in anticipation as she reared her arm back as if throwing a rugby ball, at this distances to the wall there would be no mistaking a full on impact throw. Unless Liryn managed to twist mid-flight he would either end up smashing his head or his back against the brick barrier, either way Ate would be happy with the results. She had never been an animal lover, yet she was civil to them and never wished them harm. But a steady dose of Lyssa and constant interruptions by these beasts had left her callous towards the animals. In fact she hated them now or at least she hated this one and she had plans to mount his carcass on her wall as soon as she was done here.
Her hand released Liryn mid arch as the flying tackle knocked her from her feet, her mind not catching up with what she was seeing as the cat had disappeared from view and the street ran up to meet her. On impact her lungs expelled what felt like every ounce of air as she slammed into the ground, her hip and shoulder cracking against concrete as she landed with the full wait of Athene on top of her. Her first thought was to breath, her chest heaving in air as she tried to catch her breath which had been forced out of her. She wheezed until the pain in her chest was swallowed with the pain of her shoulder, the swelling already apparent as she tried to roll off the broken limb which on a normal day would have been difficult without the added pain in her hip and back.
“Uhhh! Get-t OFF! GET OFF!” She screamed down at him as she angled a fist towards the top of his head, if she connected it would have been a pathetic punch not being able to put any force or weight into in her prone manner. Her arm was throbbing so much she felt the pain was going to make her pass out before she even had the chance to get up yet she fought against it with all her will, she couldn’t be this easily beaten. Not when she had been so close!
“GUUUHHHH GE-ET OFF-F ME-EE!” She started swinging wildly at Athene's head, ungraceful and clumsy as she tried to wriggle out from under him.
He caught a glimpse of grey as he collided with Atë, as the corrupted eternal released the cat mid-swing and he barely had time to hope that the cat (whoever it was) was okay before the two of them were falling.
In hindsight maybe going for a full on tackle wasn't the most sensible of actions, uncoordinated and graceless as it was and with no way to control the fall. It was Atë, however, who got the worse of it caught as she was between him and the unforgiving concrete and he was close enough to hear her wheeze as they crashed into the ground.
He was slow to recover, or mayhaps it was down to the embarrassment of their position - either way Atë had managed to recover enough breath to scream at him as she swung one her hands in the direction of his head.
The hit connected - he had been too slow to move for it not to - but it was lacking the full force of her strength and ended up mostly cushioned by the long mass of his hair. It was however a cue and a pretty strong one that he move - especially as she started to try and swing out at him in earnest as she continued to scream at him.
A couple more punches landed as he rolled off her and then scrambled to his feet, eyes warily watching her to see her next move as he told her seriously "I suggest you leave Atë." Although not by any stretch did he consider himself a particularly great fighter, Athene was considering that of the two of them he was probably in the better condition - after all he wasn't the one who had ended up smashed into concrete.

Athene's interruption meant that the corrupted eternal had released him in the mid arch of her swing and so although he had sailed forwards, he had ended up falling short of the bricky and fatal collision that she had been planning for him and the fact there had not been quite as much power behind the throw had had meant that he had managed to twist in the air enough so that he landed paw first rather than some other, less favourable way - such as on his side. It had been a close thing though - a very close thing.
He didn't want to get up because his body felt achy and his paws felt sore, but he could feel Athene's eternal senshi's aura, warm and blazing behind him and he really was a cat that took his mauvian duties to protect seriously - especially from nasty starseed-stealing corrupts like this one.
He padded in their direction, one slow paw pad at a time, could hear Athene telling her to leave, heard him give her a name - Atë.
Atë - he would remember that name.
He looked at her with his purplish eyes and the jade of his forehead star started to spark. It was supposed to be a last resort thing and would leave him super-tired, but if would help see off this particular corrupt then Liryn was happy to make an exception.

The pain down her arm radiated in to her back, dancing along her collar bone in sharp spikes. She felt the small relief of Athene’s weight lifting off her before the pain returned in force, her eyes fighting back unwanted tears that she couldn’t control. She couldn’t remember a time when she had felt such teeth clenching discomfort, and although this was hardly a fight Athene had managed to hit her with a combination of timing and luck causing her damage she had not thought possible. Even now as he stood threatening her to leave she continued to grimace in pain, her body rocking until she managed to push herself up with the help of her uninjured arm. Moving fast wasn’t an option as she probed her arm with her mind’s eye, the thoughts running over what could be broken as she held the arm gingerly to her body. <******** you Athene” She sneered, the pain hitching up a notch as she rose to her feet. She no longer watched Liryn, her attention solely on the boy before her. “I thought you-uhh- got the message, I don’t play nice with my toys w-when they misbehave.”
She would have said more if not for the glittering light that caught her eye, the purple sparkles started from below her eye line and it took only a second for Ate to pinpoint the source and the reveal stole her breath.
Liryn was powering up his star.
She had never felt the effects of one but she knew dam well not to be in its path when it went ******** quitter!”
The fury she felt at this move was alarming. It wasn’t that they had essential won this round but the way in which they had done it. It felt like cheating. She couldn’t fight against a Guardians beam no matter how well she felt or tried but at least against Athene she could fight him with her other arm and legs. Liryn was basically bringing a bazooka to the battle field. But she also wasn’t stupid and there would be no glory in this fight if she was blown to pieces. She started taking a step back, unsure if the feline would realise the power now or if it was just a warning but knowing what he was sacrificing to call upon it Ate didn’t want to around to find out.

Athene kept his expression neutral. Mayhaps once he would have been surprised, before the night at the Zoo and then later at the warehouse where she had killed him however briefly - but they had happened and Atë had corrupted and seemed to have forgotten about the before, about when they had been on the same side.
And not only was she happy to try and kill a child, but it seemed that she also...
A flash of glittering sparks drew his eye and for the first time he managed to get a proper look at the cat that Atë had been doing her level best to kill, his attention momentarily distracted as with a shock he realised that he recognised the little mauvian.
Liryn?! What's he even doing here?
His attention was drawn back to Atë as she started swearing again, although it was hard to tell whether she was swearing at him, Liryn or the two of them both.
"I'm not your toy Atë. I'll never be your toy" he said, quiet voice even as he took a moment to glance down at Liryn and catch the little bobtail's eyes with a quiet "Don't Liryn" before looking back at her. Hoping that glance and words both were enough to get the message across to the little mauvian. Don't shoot her.
Gaze back on Atë he repeated "You should leave."
Liryn seemed to be listening to him - at least for now - but by the way he was focusing on Atë and the dislike that his furry little body was displaying suggested that the little tabby bobtail might just decide to shoot her with his beam anyway - on principal.

Liryn's attention was focused on the nasty corrupt, a.k.a Atë but he had caught Athene's gaze when the dark-haired eternal had turned to look at him and had heard his quiet "Don't."
It had been a guess that the other was telling him not to use his kitty beam on Atë - a guess but not a certainty and Liryn had been super tempted to do it anyway just on principal.
But there had been a note in Athene's voice and the corrupt did seem to be edging away and so he held.
Held but watched - after all he was quite happy to hit her with the beam if she decided to make any more nasty moves.

Ate steps were slow and deliberate, she felt sick with the pain throbbing down her arm and she couldn’t seem to get going any faster. She knew something about pain being an active member of the roller derby team, and obviously fighting the way she did throughout her whole life. So to say she was no stranger to it was an understatement. But right now, at this very moment, she couldn’t breathe. She didn’t even want to speak in case she vomited or started to cry out. Somehow she had landed wrong and that mistake had probably shattered her collar bone. She winced again as Athene stared down at Liryn his words about leaving very much what she wanted to do. Yet a morbid curiosity coupled with the need to not move a muscle had her wavering on the outskirts. She could still see Liryn’s beam sparkling, drawing in the energy like a whirlpool. In a bizarre way she wanted to see what would happen but she also know it could be the last thing she saw. Grabbing the last bit of bravado she could muster she spat out in his direction, a hideous sneer on her face as she called out a last time.
“Am-m…am not done with you yet boy. I will have you and –uhh- your cat will suffer to his last breath before am done with you, I promise you that.”
She knew it might sound hollow with her wincing in pain. She wasn't exactly throwing fear into the hearts of anyone being on the verge of crying but she couldn't help herself, she was so angry. She had been so close to killing Liryn that she could taste it and again it had been snatched from her. If she ever wanted to prove herself to Metalia she needed to show her what she was capable off. Not only was Liryn a pain in the arse and had constantly stopped her from taking Athene, he was a guardian. Surely that would be a worthy offering? Yet she had lost her chance and been left weaker for it. Just that thought alone made her want to scream out in agony.
She wouldn't forget this. She wouldn't.
She stumbled into broken chain fence, sweat glistening on her top lip as she fought to say awake and moving. Her eyes blazing as she turned and out into the night.

Or at least Liryn had thought that the corrupt had been edging away, but then she had wavered, had glared in both their directions to the point where Liryn had started to think that (despite Athene's request to the contrary) he should use the kitty beam after all.
But it seemed that it was just a grab to have the last say, to make one last threat although as threats went it shouldn't have been the most convincing - not as it had been delivered in between winces of pain. Shouldn't but for one thing, well okay make that two things - the sneer twisting her face paired with the look of absolute hatred burning in her eyes.
It was enough for him to know that they had not seen the last of Corrupted Eternal Atë - not by a long shot.
But be as it may, Liryn didn't care. He was not afraid of her and he wasn't going to let her get her nasty hands on Athene - not again - not whilst he was around to do something about it.
If she came... When she came, she came and he would be ready.
He realised with a start that Athene was speaking to him, his body feeling the aches from Atë's earlier lack of care as he turned his head to look up at the dark-haired eternal who was looking at him with a look of concern in his eyes. "What?"

Athene looked at Liryn "I asked if you were okay" he repeated quietly. "And if you wanted to call it a night." He wouldn't blame the little mauvian if he chose to cut their patrol short - after all only moments ago Atë had been doing her level best to kill him. Trying hard not to think about what would have happened if he had been even a few minutes later he knelt down to make himself more on the level with the small mauvian and held out his hand in a silent ask.

"I'm okay" Liryn said, although he did take Athene up on his silent offer and let the dark-haired eternal scoop him up. "And I can patrol if you can, but..." he hesitated for a moment before asking quietly "Can I come home with you?" Oh he could sneak in, it wouldn't be the first time that he'd done so and nor would it be the last, however just this once Liryn wanted in without having to go through the rigmarole of sneaking in and he wanted to be able to sleep snuggled on a bed - at least for tonight.
He'd been expecting a sigh, expecting a no but to his surprise Athene had nodded, had said okay. And it was perhaps because of that unexpected yes that he had pushed further and added "And I want you to take me to Athene."
The sigh had come then, but after a few moments Athene had nodded again, still holding him as he started walking away in the opposite direction to the one Atë had taken.
Surprise had had him ask Athene if he was sure, if he had really meant what he said - after all Athene had turned him down on all the other occasions that he'd asked. This time however Athene had nodded and told him in that quiet voice of his that yes he would take him to Athene and that it was a promise.
He hadn't mentioned a when and Liryn didn't push him for one, because Athene had given his promise and for the moment that was enough.
