Chariklo didn't often go through Destiny City's theater district for patrols. In her own opinion, the place was simply a little too crowded for her tastes. But she wanted to surprise Ava with tickets to some kind of show and patroling simply meant that she could sneak and spy to get whatever information she wanted.

Okay, so this was less patrolling and more creeping around while powered up. She could live with that. Grinning from where she as hidden in the shadows, the tall dark mirror took a moment to sweep her hair from her eyes. Now, she thought, which of these things has a lot of happy looking couples going in and coming out. She rarely paid attention to such things normally. But somehow, she didn't think it would score her brownie points if she ended up stupidly picking a show based on the name alone.

"I'd end up picking some weird, super-gay show about Hitler knowing my luck," she muttered under her breath. No, best if she just tried to practice a little patience (UGH) and observed. At least that way she could be assured of not ending up watching a rainbow clad dictator camping it up while Ava sat horrified beside her.

Things had been busy lately. Hvergelmir had been away on interstellar jaunts or failing to purify people or having other purified people fall in her lap, and had had to cut down on her youma patrols for the time being. Currently, she was down to once a week: manageable, but it left her a little sad that she was less in touch with the beating heart of the theater district than usual.

People on the streets were starting to recognize her when she'd go by, the regulars of the show-going circuit. They thought she was a street performer -- so, often, she'd pretend to be a ghost, wistful and sad, and sometimes people would hand her dollars. Mostly, she was fairly sure, they liked the costume construction. When there were no youma, she sort of enjoyed herself.

Having not been back in a week, though, Hvergelmir was eager to see what new shows had opened up: there were bound to be one or two. She wended her way through crowds till she arrived at the daily discount ticket booth, then checked the marquee.

A new musical about Madam Bovary, and McDonagh's latest -- A Behanding in Spokane. She'd been hoping Destiny City would do a production of Behanding -- Laney would have to get tickets.

Wandering past the theater doors for Madam Bovary: A Musical, she thought she detected a Chaos aura, almost.

Almost. It felt -- dark, definitely Chaos-dark, but sort of indefinably not-the-same as Negaverse officers or corrupted senshi or youma. She couldn't place it.

"Hello?" she called out, following the aura toward its source. "Is someone there?"

Cursing herself for managign to attract Order attention, Chariklo considered her options. There was always running, though that thought rankled. There was a straight up frontal charge, but she couldn't risk getting a lot of civilians involved. As she was thinking, ht aura's owner was practically on top of her and Chariklo couldn't stop her jaw from dropping.

"Are you kidding me? How in the hell do you fight in that get up?" she sputtered, taking in the poofy hair and dress that looked more like it belonged on a catwalk than a battlefield. Her brain pegged this woman as one of the knights, but surprise kept Chariklo from going onto the offensive.

"No seriously," she continued. "Can you even move properly in that get-up?"

Hvergelmir stared hard at the senshi before her. That was what she was, Hvergelmir was fairly certain -- the sailor collar and the rest of the uniform seemed pretty obvious -- but she neither felt nor looked like Sailor Ate and Sailor Persephone. There were no eerie black hollows in her skin where her body had been cracked open to get at her starseed, no little black bat wings. This senshi was all avian, instead: black with bead details and a sheer, silvery surcoat, trimmed in feathered scallops. She seemed to be some kind of corrupted senshi Hvergelmir hadn't yet encountered.

"I don't fight," she said with what she hoped was a disarming laugh, putting her hands up in surrender. "And no, it's not easy to maneuver around in at all -- though my page dress was worse."

Hvergelmir took a step forward. "Are you with the Negaverse?" she asked, brow furrowing with uncertainty.

"You... don't fight. What?" the shock in Chariklo's voice was plain. She barely registered the remark about page dresses and gathered that this woman was probably about the same level power-wise as herself. And if that was the case, it was a wonder that she'd survived long enough to level up.

Though at the mention of the Negaverse, Chariklo felt her lips curl into a sneer of pure distaste. Sure, there were some decent officers out there, but overall she couldn't say she liked the group as a whole.

"Hardly. I'm Dark Mirror Court through and through," she answered with more than a hint of pride. As far as the tall, mohawked woman was concerned, dark mirror senshi were the only senshi worth anything.

Hvergelmir offered a smile and a shrug -- she was getting used to people's eyebrows-reaching-upper-stratosphere reactions by now, and here in the middle of the theater district, it was less likely that things would come to fighting. There were still too many people out and about at this time of night. "I don't usually see the need," she said, hoping her matter-of-factness would make it sound all the more logical. "The Negaverse fights to protect the Earth from conquering aliens. I've got no objection to that -- I just think there's been a misunderstanding about whether or not there are any conquering aliens or not. I can't think of anyone where my punching them in the face would clarify the misunderstanding." She raised her hands at her sides. "So rather than get all sting-like-a-bee, I like to hear my opponents out. With my oath -- on my life, only to raise arms against a Negaverse agent in self-defense -- to prove my goodwill."

She pointed to her shoulder, to the glittery gold and iridescent white of her sigil: the star-from-the-well. "'As a seal upon your arm,'" she quoted, taking a bit of biblical license with it. "'For love is strong as death.'"

And there the other woman had it -- Hvergelmir's philosophy and oath, summarized. Hvergelmir didn't think it sounded too bad, put like that. She might try this version again sometime.

"I've never heard of the Dark Mirror Court," she admitted without hedging. "Does your group have leadership? A goal, I'm guessing?"

In spite of her shock at this woman's words, Chariklo gave her a tiny look of pity, murmuring, "But face punches can be so satisfying!"

Still this was interesting and very different from the few other knightly types that she'd encountered. And at least for now, it was interesting enough to keep the senshi from instinctively following her 'destroy all knights' orders. Particularly the tattoo that was being pointed out to her. Chariklo had never seen a tattoo that actually glittered or flickered with iridescence.

"That's... not just for show is it," she asked quietly. "Normal inks don't look like that."

Well, in a way she had to hand it to the knight. She certainly had the courage of her convictions. And really if she was promising her life if she ever raised a hand that wasn't strictly for self-defense, she wouldn't last long in this war anyway. So Chariklo didn't feel quite as guilty about not attacking her as she might otherwise have.

Besides, the thought that there was even one magical person running around Destiny City who'd never heard of the Dark Mirror Court was very strange. Especially after the recent dust-ups. Still, Chariklo didn't mind explaining what she knew.

"We have a Prince and Princess," she answered proudly. Though she wasn't entirely willing to hand out names. Not right now. However interesting, this woman was still an enemy. And you didn't hand valuable information over to your enemy.

"Goal-wise? I've always been told it's to save whatever senshi we can, destroy the ones we can't and then haul a** off of this planet to go live on our own."

"You can touch it if you want," Hvergelmir offered, pressing a finger hard against it to prove it couldn't be smeared. "It's way down in there, like a real tattoo, but only when I'm powered up. But you can feel it's just a little bit warm -- it glows when I'm at my Wonder." She pointed at the extensive tattoos covering the dark mirror senshi. "Yours are stunning, though -- are they real? How long did that take?"

She listened to the senshi's answers with interest, trying to lay down a few pieces of a new puzzle in her mind, one labeled 'The Dark Mirror Court.' Things were still mostly fuzzy. "Oh. Save them from the Negaverse? How, by taking them to space with you? Are you inviting them as refugees to your homeworld with you -- are you all from the same planet?"

None of this made any sense with the inclusion of destroy he ones we can't, though. She wasn't sure how to work that in. They were -- Chaos, right? How were they defining 'saving?'

"Hvergelmir Squire of the Cosmos," she introduced herself with a little curtsy. "And you're... Sailor...?"

Grinning a little, Chariklo took this strange knight up on her offer and reached out to gently trace the tattoo with her fingertips. She wasn't entirely sure what a Wonder was, but the idea of a magical henshining tattoo appealed to her.

"Interesting. Very interesting," she murmured, moving her hand back as little as she felt the increased warmth from the mark. Glancing up, she wrinkled her nose and smiled. "Thanks. They are indeed real and some of 'em hurt like hell when I got 'em. This is all the accumulation of about two years and I still have tats I want to add in. I just haven't decided where I want to put them yet."

Moving back a step to lean against an outer wall, Chariklo cocked her head as more questions came pouring out along with an introduction. Also, what was with girls curtsy-ing at her lately? Had a memo gone out that she'd missed? Shaking her head a little, she offered a hand and trotted out her own introduction.

"Chariklo, Super Senshi of Seagulls and happily a member of the Dark Mirror Court. But you knew that part already. And no, not the Negaverse. From themselves. From following a dead and dust Queen."

She ran one hand through her hair, trying to think of how to best explain.

"Senshi all have their own stars and planets, you do know that, right? That's what we want to do. Go to our own places and rebuild our worlds. Let the Negaverse have the Earth. It was their world to start with before this whole stupid war began anyway."

Not that she had the slightest idea how exactly they would get out into space, but she was confidant that Leto and Remarque would figure it out.

Hvergelmir nodded her understanding -- at least, she thought she got it, this time. They wanted to avert the war by finding a peacable solution to the conflict and yielding the contested territory (which, in this case, was the entire planet) to the Negaverse? She wasn't sure how Chaos was involved in that, but she supposed it was an admirable goal, on its face.

Maybe not a viable goal -- but its heart was in the right spot.

"We can never go back to living in the past," she said. "Humanity marches on, going forward no matter what we do, no matter what we once owned. This world doesn't belong to us -- but it doesn't belong to the Negaverse, either. Will you really abandon it to them?"

Well, that was one way of looking at it. Laughing softly, Chariklo relaxed further.

"Y'know, I honestly don't know. I've never thought about it like that."

Clearly she should. She wasn't comfortable with the Negaverse but they were still, technically, allies. Ugh, too much thinking.

"Well," she said brightly, "how about we change the subject. You know anythign about any of these shows?"

Chariklo waved her hand vaguely towards the various billboards and grinned crookedly.

"I am out of my depth here and need some advice for what not to subject my lady to."

It was a start. Hvergelmir had to think about things like that: it was a start. There was no point in lamenting that you couldn't get someone to reevaluate their life choices and the company they kept within one little conversation. The best you could hope for was to give them enough interest to talk to you again. Make some kind of a connection, however thready it was.

A spider's web, after all, was so faint as to be invisible to the human eye: but no less powerfully strong, for that.

And friendship, of course, could be just such a powerful strength.

"Oh! Well, in that case, you've come to entirely the right person. I know, like, ninety percent of these shows. Tell me a little bit about your lady love, let me advise you. What kinds of movies and things does she like?"

Brightening even more at having managed to strike up a conversation with someone who knew about all these shows, Chariklo grinned. Hooray serendipity!

"She's a huge gaming and Dr. Who nerd. She likes most sci-fi and fantasy stuff, actually. Super adorable and girly in spite of the nerdery."

How to properly describe Ava?

"Well when I proposed, I made a special little ringbox that looked like one of those cube things from the Mario games, if that's any help? It certainly seemed to send her over the moon at the time."

Nope, still didn't seem to be enough. But Chariklo herself, or rather Arilee, had never been a flowery words and romance type of person, so she was a little out of her depth here. The tall senshi had a feeling she was obviously floundering and wasn't entirely sure how to remedy that.

Hvergelmir, on the other hand, had always been a flowery words and romance type person.

"Okay, that is so, so cute. I can totally help."

She tapped a finger to her chin thoughtfully. "Does she do musicals, or just straight plays?"

Welp. Now it was official. Chariklo was The Worst. Face falling slightly, she scuffed one booted toe agaisnt the pavement.

"I don't actually know. I'm pretty sure she likes both. But I guess musicals?"

Yep, she was definitely out of her depth and if this lady knight could help, she was ready to raise her up on a pedestal and nominate her for Sainthood on the spot.

"Most of our dates have been more along the lines of dinners at home followed by a movie or dinners out followed by dancing, y'see."
