How do you view online relationships? 3nodding

I don't just mean love,
but bonds.

Friendships with people you
can't see unless they choose to show you 3nodding

Do you value "online" talking as less than,
greater, or equal to face to face?

Math! emotion_awesome

I view them exactly the same. When it comes to actually getting to know someone, like someone new, I feel the internet is better. Everyone sees the outside and makes judgements. Those who say they don't are liars! scream Not even judgements that are bad. Like for instance you see a cute young girl, you think, aw, what a cutie. Turns out she's a freaking brat. xD

I also feel people are braver on the net. I know I am. They are less afraid to share their real selves. My friends I met in person don't seem to know me like the ones I meet online. With the exception of one, who I've been best friends with for 10 years.

I have a lot of acquaintances. But truth be told I feel I have one true friend who I've met offline. Just one. My best friend in the world is of course my boyfriend Pete who I met on Minecraft. My bestie without benefits (lol) is a woman named Kylie who's closer to my mom's age than mine and she lives in Australia. We met on Facebook. My other best friends are Mary and Joash. Mary is older than my mom and lives in Pennsylvania. Joash was actually my dad's friend who he met while calling Dell tech support. xD He contacted me when my dad died and we've been great friends ever since. I never in my life would have met these people without the internet. And if I somehow had, I doubt we would have been friends. Like Mary.. she's 47. What would a 26 year old think we could have in common? But I didn't even bother to find out her age until we knew each other for months.

Also.. you are one of my best friends too Cinderful. :3 I haven't had a real friend on Gaia in so long. I'm glad I met you and that you joined this guild. I don't even know how long you've been on my friendslist, haha, but it's good to be able to call you a real friend now.

sweatdrop I have less than 1% of experience
with face to face meetings.
I'm more like, in the negative range emotion_facepalm
Last year, I came SO close to meeting
my best friend in person.

She had a plane ticket...
but my mom is over protective.
scream I do NOT see why I had
to ask if she was allergic to wheat and
penicillin. In the end, I remained alone.

Before joining Gaia, I had no one.

I was thinking about this the other day.
My soul, that was protected by a false layer of happiness,
didn't know the depths of its loneliness,
until it felt what it was like to connect with another human being.

Being 17 without any friends
never seemed odd neutral

You're one of the easiest
people to connect with Spenelli.
I say connect because the words I use
are always meaningful.
It's not empty or run by obligation to respond heart

I completely feel that way! :3 And you know what, I'm not allergic to anything. xD

I've had so many "friends". So many best friends. And 99.9% of those people have screwed me over one way or another. Even my best friend Renay. She picked a man over me. I babysat her kids, cleaned her house, did all the laundry. Then her man decides me being there was imposing on their family. She should have stood up and said I was her family. Instead she told me I had to move out. Then like a month later he moved his brother in.. that was a kick in the face. Then later moved in 2 of his friends. Turned out he moved them in cause they had a steady supply of meth. Awesome. xD Of course she left him, and I would have taken her kids away if she hadn't.

I had a birthday party this year and invited EVERYONE. Who came? My mom, my "dad", my boyfriend, and 2 of my aunts. Not one friend. Nobody ever goes out of their way for me anymore. Back in high school it was so cool to hang out with me because I could get weed and cigarettes. Now that all my friends have grown up, what do they need me for? I liked them because I liked them genuinely. They liked what they could get from me. I would have 5-10 people a day hanging out at my house. That all ended pretty much the day I graduated.

You have to filter out who's using you and who actually likes you. On the internet.. there's not a whole lot people can be using you for. xD I think that's part of making better friends online. My friends here or on Gaia just want to talk to me. Screw offline people. xD

I feel like online relationships are just as good as real life ones.

A lot of my close friends are people that I initially met online. My fiancé I met online, then we met through school. I think online relationships are stronger because for some reason, we find it easier to speak to a complete stranger about our problems over someone close to you. I think this may be because a stranger can't really find a reason to judge you.

I always noticed that
if I'm judged by someone I cant see,
it doesn't bug me as much.

I mean sweatdrop If someone cant
see me, how can they truly hurt my feelings.

A lot of people don't think
that way though confused
Online rages are all over the place on Gaia.

That's sad. :S I think that's why I try and avoid the more serious topics because I know how people can get, unfortunately...

AH! That's exactly it! You are so right. There are things that took me over 10 years to tell my family that I had no trouble talking about online. I never really knew how to explain that. I have met so many people who really impacted my life online.. and most of my relationships started online. xD Like I said in a previous post, my current (and hopefully forever) boyfriend I met on Minecraft. I also met two guys on Facebook and one here on Gaia. One of my exes I met over the phone on a 3-way call, haha.. may as well have been the net.

I'm an extremely shy person in real life so meeting people through the internet is so much easier for me over in person meetings. I can connect to people more that way. The internet has been a blessing for those of us that consider ourselves introverts and don't really like going out very much.

emotion_facepalm I'm shy too.
Eye contact is something
most people take for granted.

emotion_drool I can't seem to do it as easily
cuz it makes me blush.

I HATE EYE CONTACT! I can barely make eye contact with my fiancé, let alone people I deal with on a daily basis. How embarrassing. Those speech classes just never worked for me, I guess.

I'm not really shy. But I can be awkward. Especially with people I just met or when I have to represent myself. Like what happened in my interview. xD Or giving presentations in front of a whole class. (So glad I'm done with school, haha) Sometimes I just say things without thinking. Like I don't even have control. Or I'll say something wrong by mistake and then feel so stupid I don't know how to say that I said it wrong. Like the multiple times I've forgotten my own age. xD Probably the worst was once when I met this cute guy. He asked how old I was and I said 15. Then he said he was 17. Then I realized I was 16. I finally decided to correct myself and I'm pretty sure he thought I was lying. gonk Like I was saying I was older so he'd like me. When I type things out I'm not under pressure to come up with something off the top of my head. And I can read through it and make sure I didn't make mistakes. If only talking could be more like that, haha.

It helps that the Internet has all the time in the world to wait for us to type down a statement. I can't think on the fly for the life of me. Probably a reason why I hate confrontations too, because I never know what to say right off the bat. I have to think about how I want to convey my words to someone. I'm so much better at apologizing to others over the Internet too. I wish I were able to find words to express my feelings out loud.
