Ellie was tired, to say the least. She had her hair in a lazy bun that was slowly starting to fall down, her bangs constantly falling into her face. It was around six o'clock, the busiest time for the restaurant she worked at. She had been taking orders and scurrying around all day, she couldn't wait to go home. She was currently wiping down a table with a damp rag, encouraging the couple behind her to sit down at the table she was wiping. They complied, thanking her for cleaning the table. She smiled, taking a writing pad out of her apron and a pen. Ellie took their orders, taking the piece of paper back to the kitchen.
The chef look twice as tired as she did, and she was very tired. He was currently trying to cook 3 dishes at once, yelping as he burned himself. He glared at her once he saw her pinning up another set of orders, Ellie smiling sheepishly as she apologized. He grumbled something under his breath, signaling for Ellie to just go ahead and leave.
She wiped her hands onto her apron as she sat down on a nearby stool. She had been working at this restaurant since the very beginning, which was a few weeks ago. It had really grown into quite the establishment. She used to barely get into tips because of how empty the place was, but now she looked almost at almost 150 dollars in tips every day. It meant double the work of course, but she dealt with it.
Ellie yawned softly, pouring herself less than half a glass of water. She really shouldn't have been sitting down, she would be yelled at if someone saw her. She quickly drank all the water, before setting the cup down and scurrying off to assist more customers.
She chatted with most of the customers whenever she could, learning a lot about the type of people that came in. Some only came in for the bar that was located in the middle of the restaurant, but she chatted with them too, even though the bartender was supposed to be taking care of them. She didn't know, she just really like her job, even though some may say the pay was horrible. She shrugged at that, she couldn't really say she had any experience anywhere else.
She got a job at this restaurant when her ex-boyfriend had broke up with her, kicking her out of his apartment in the process. Having nowhere to live, she instantly got her a** to work, starting out slow. In the meantime, she stayed at her mom's, instantly receiving a grim reminder as to why she moved out in the first place. Ellie's mother was so controlling, the girl could literally do nothing without her mother monitoring her. After a few weeks, she had enough. She packed what little she had, kissed her mother on the cheek and left.
With the money her mom gave her to start out, she bought a small 1 bedroom apartment. It wasn't much at all, but she liked it that way. She learned the hard way not to trust a man, and she vowed that she never would. Of course, she told THAT to her mom, and received a fit of laughter on the other end. Even though Ellie's mom split from her dad, her mother admitted to needing him. That she couldn't of done anything without him.
Ellie said bullshit to that, though.
She could make it on her own. Ellie smiled lightly to herself at the thought. She would prove her mother wrong, she declared as she pushed together a couple of tables for a large family.

Nicholas stepped out of his full-sized silver pick-up truck, shutting the door behind him. His buddy, Nate, hopped out on the passenger side followed by Victoria and Chris and Danielle who came out of seats behind them. It may have been a pick-up truck, though it could fit at most five people into it comfortably. Nicholas shrugged on his dark leather jacket upon feeling a cold gust of wind hit his body before taking Danielle's hand into his own, entwining their fingers. They weren't a thing - Nick didn't do relationships; he was only trying to lead her on to make her think that he had feelings for her. After all, she was hot, and he wanted to get laid tonight. End of story.
So, Nick slept around a bit. So what? He was a man, and men had their needs. Nicholas just needed them on a daily basis. The man smirked kindly at his toy as he pulled open the door for her, eyeing her a bit from behind once she strode in. Victoria rolled her eyes at him as she walked in after her, which wasn't unexpected. He and Victoria were... ex-f*ck buddies, so to speak. Though, Nick soon grew bored of her and moved on to the next girl - her best friend, Danielle. He also held the door open for his buddies before he strode in after them, tucking his keys into his jacket pocket as he did so. "Hi there, table for.." she did a quick head count "five?"
He felt Danielle wrap an arm around his muscular yet slender waist. "Yeah, I booked reservations for 8. It's Nick Gant." He informed her. He felt Danielle's hand slip into the back pocket of his dark blue jeans, so he wrapped his arm around her neck instinctively keeping his gaze fixed on the woman who stood before them. She was quite pretty with her hip length blonde hair and startling blue eyes. Maybe he would leave her his number on a napkin or something.
The woman ran the tip of her finger down a list of names and such in her folder and stopped at Nick's name, gave them a polite smile, and then gathered five menus. "Follow me, please." The tall blonde walked around the counter and lead them to their booth which was secluded at one of the very back corners. It was a nice spot - dimly lit, with large windows all around. Steve allowed Nate and Danielle to sit down first before he say down on the soft cushion and slid off his coat, letting it sit behind him. Chris and Victoria sat in the chairs in front of them.
Nicholas opened up his menu and looked through the list of alcoholic beverages, deciding to stick with the usual: a bottle of Heineken beer. In the mean time, he poured Danielle and then himself a glass of ice cold water. Nicholas leaned his elbows on the table and crossed his ankles as they talked amongst themselves, checking his phone periodically for texts and whatnot.

Ellie was in the back, collecting an order before she heard her fellow waitresses discussing something about one of the customers. She moved closer to them, careful not to drop the plates in her hands.
" Oh, did you see how he looked at me, Maggie? "Ellie's friend, Carol said, clutching her writing pad close to her chest. Maggie, the other waitress, nodded abruptly as she leaned against the table. Ellie huffed, quickly scurrying over to the plates' destination. She instantly came back to her friends, wiping bits of food off of her apron.
" What happened...? " Ellie questioned, all three waitresses moving out of the passing alley's. Carol sighed loudly, placing both hands on top of her head.
" A customer, Nick Grant gave me bed eyes! "Carol said, a little too loudly. A few customers gave them unusual looks, causing Ellie to gesture to Carol what commotion she was causing. The waitress laughed, lightly shoving Ellie back.
" Geez Ellie, can't you see this is a big moment for me?! Oh look, he's at your side of the restaurant! Could you introduce me to him? Maybe get his number for me? You're so lucky! " Carol was pointing now, which made Ellie groan loudly. She forced Carol's hands down, nodding her head.
" Yes! I will... just be quiet, will you? I don't want to get any complaints because you're being too loud about your love for a guy you've never even met... Ellie sighed, " Now get back to your areas. Don't you have orders to take? " The girls laughed, leaving Ellie to her devices. Ellie was sort of the mother hen around the restaurant. Since she had been working here since the beginning ,she basically knew her way around the place. When the restaurant recruited more waiters, she was there showing them the basics of how to waiter (*wait?) properly. Pretty big deal, but she didn't let it get to her head...
She rolled her eyes as she walked away. Geez, her friends were such dorks. She looked towards Nick's table and sighed as she pushed her hair back. Well, time to get to work she guessed. She strode confidently over to Nick's area until another guest stopped her. She blinked, and turned to the random customer, asking if she could be of any help. It was kind of awkward since she looked confident, like she was about to face a war head on. The customer asked if he could receive another order of chicken stips, and she happily complied. Another order of chicken strips later, Ellie returned back to her waiting area, arriving at Nick's table.
She smiled her signature smile, all teeth and shiny eyes. She held her little writing pad out and a pen, ready to take orders.
" Hey guys, I'm Ellie and I'll be your waiter tonight. Can I start you out with any drinks? " She politely said, waiting for their responses. She looked over them all, smiling as she did so. They seemed to be all couples, which made her relieved. Being a waitress wasn't easy. She got hit on so much, it was unbearable sometimes. And embarrassing too. She brushed it off with a nervous laugh, or an uncomfortable wink, but even that didn't work sometimes.
" If I may, I would totally recommend the freckled lemonade. It's great! " Ellie exclaimed, only because she had to. If she didn't she would of kept her mouth shut and just introduced herself and that's it. But rules were rules and she abides by them.

Goodness, Danielle was so touchy with him! She had her small hand wrapped around his bicep and was practically nestling the side of her face into his shoulder. Paying her a glance out of the corner of his eye, Nicholas pressed his lips together and then awkwardly slipped her arm out of his grasp, using his phone as an excuse. The male eased back into the cushioned seat, one arm folded casually across his broad chest as he scrolled through his newsfeed. "What'cha doin'?" Danielle asked sweetly, leaning into him slightly as she peered at his phone curiously. God, this woman had no boundaries and it was beginning to annoy him. But, he wanted to get laid so he would just have to suffer through the rest of the night.
Nick forced a thin smile onto his lips, pressing the 'lock' button on his phone which made the screen go black. "I think the proper question would be, what are we doing later on tonight?" He teased, putting emphasis on the word 'we'. A soft blush crept across the pale girls cheeks, and that made Nicholas smile knowingly. Oh yes, he was indeed getting laid tonight.
Danielle opened her mouth to speak, although she was cut short when their waitress appeared suddenly at their table. It took only one glance for him to come to the realization that he didn't in fact know her from somewhere. Nate ordered first, and as he did so, Nick couldn't help but furrow his brows thoughtfully as he stared. His stare wasn't obvious - it was very sly. Soon, it was his turn to order and Nick began fumbling over his words. "I.. I'll have a Heineken, please." Nick continued to look at the girl, his pale blue eyes inquisitive. "I'm sorry, but do I know you from somewhere?" Nicholas had to ask. "My name is Nick. Nick Gont," he added. Ellie.. even her name rung a bell! Though he just couldn't place her.

Ellie wrote down all the orders in her neat, cursive writing. She separated their orders neatly, kinda dozing off and drawing small flowers around the paper. She smiled, looking up at Nick as he stuttered out his order. She nodded and wrote it down, ready to leave. She was about to take up their menu's until Nick asked if he knew her. She furrowed her eyebrows together, crossing her arms.
She tapped her pen against her lip, taking a good look at him. Well, she saw many faces come through this restaurant. Her eyes flickered to Danielle who was looking annoyed beside him. Everyone at the table was staring at her and it made Ellie a little overwhelmed.
" I... I don't... " She was having a difficult time remembering him. Maybe he was just trying to flirt with her, she didn't really know! Ellie focused hard on his name, gathering their menu's as she thought. She hugged the menu's to her chest.
Instantly, high school memories came back to her. Nick and her were literally the best of friends, completely inseparable. She remembered the days they stayed up late, watching movies and pigging out. They talked for hours on end over the phone, but they were only friends. Ellie never really had feelings for Nick, or at least she couldn't remember. Nick never admitted to having feelings for her either, so she wouldn't know.
But high school changed people. He became the flirty player guy, like most guys in her school. They stopped watching movies together, they didn't talk as much, and when they did, he'd say he would 'call her back', but he never did. He was just too busy with his life that he didn't have time for friendship anymore. She couldn't really blame him though. She changed too. She used to be so loud and obnoxious, really fitting into society. She had many friends, but as she progressed through high school, she became shy and quiet, losing more friends than she gained.
Ellie always thought that it was her fault, but it really wasn't. Or at least that was what she told herself.
Realizing she was taking too long to answer the question, she laughed nervously, snapping her finger.
" We used to be like, best friends in high school, remember? "Ellie said, resting the end of the menu's on her left hip. She laughed, leaning down and giving him a tiny hug, meeting Danielle's eyes. She was glaring at Ellie, which made the waitress quickly retract away from Nick. She smelled kinda weird from being in the kitchen too much anyways.
" Wow, I never thought I would see you again! How are you, you look great! Is this your girlfriend? "Ellie said, smiling sheepishly at Danielle, who was still sorta glaring. Ellie tapped her tails against the plastic of the menu's, nervous. Wow she really had to get herself out of this situation and fast. She looked around, blinking. She could see Carol in the corner of her eyes, waving her arms at her.
Ellie gulped, signaling for Carol to stop. The other waitress grinned, blowing kisses at Nick. Ellie immediately turned back around, huffing. She plastered another smile on her face, waiting for a reply.

Nicholas' blue eyes widened when Ellie stated that they were friends in high school. Right! "Ellie?!" The man exclaimed, a broad grin appearing on his lips as he reached up to receive her hug. Wow.. she had grown. Particularly in the chest area. She quickly retracted, so he dropped his arms back down and turned in his seat a little to face her. His couldn't help but let his gaze drift over her body... her perfect, curvy body..
Nicholas pointed a thumb back at Danielle as he arched his brows. "Her? Nah, we're just f*ckin' around... well, not yet anyway." He spotted a few of the waitresses waving and blowing him kisses, so he flashed his charming smile at them tossing them a quick wink.
Danielle gasped and picked up her glass of water splashing it all over the back of his head. "What kind of girl do you think I am?! She yelled, completely appalled at the fact that he would say something like that.
Nick closed his eyes and inhaled slowly through his nostrils when he felt the water hit him. It began to dribble down the back of his neck, soaking his shirt. A smug grin appeared on his lips as he turned to look back at her. "An easy one."
Danielle's open hand came hard across his cheek, though it didn't phase him. He had suffered worse. Then, the girl slid out of the booth before storming out of the restaurant crying her eyes out. Victoria shook her head at him, disgusted. "You're an a*****e." And with that, she too collected her things and then ran out after her best friend. "Tell me something I don't know! Nick yelled, his slapped cheek a light red. In the mean time, Chris and Nate were sitting there laughing their asses off uncontrollably.
The man took a few napkins and began dabbing around the back of his neck. He peered up at Ellie, smiling despite everything that just happened. "So, what are you doing later on tonight? Maybe we could catch up a bit? Hang out at my place like we used to?" He suggested, raising his eyebrows in a questioning matter. Of course, Nick had an ulterior motive.

Ellie felt like she was in a dream as she watched Nick verbally abuse Danielle. Ellie didn't even know the poor girl and she felt bad for her. Ellie was about to confront Nick about how rude he was being, until Danielle decided it would be smart to dump her drink all over Nick's head and back. She turned around to meet Carol's eyes, which were wide while her mouth was a complete 'o'.
Ellie's head snapped around when she heard Danielle's hand smack against Nick's cheek. He heard Nick's response to Danielle's question, and it infuriated her. Wow, what a ******** jerk this guy became. He was like 7x more of an a*****e than he was in school. Ellie guessed some things never changed.
She moved out of the way when Danielle stormed her way out of the booth, roughly shoving Ellie out of the way anyways. Ellie completely didn't mind, the girl was was wrecked. Her makeup was just out of control once the water works came in. Ellie then proceeded to move out of the way for Victoria as well.
Nick's friends began to laugh which made Ellie even more angry. Her nails dug into the menu's as other customers around the table began to turn and look at the source of all the commotion. Her face grew hot with anger and embarrassment.
She was glaring daggers at Nick now, about to use her nails to claw that smile off of his face. Her face and neck were all red, even though she tried her hardest to suppress her feelings. She was about to leave right then and there until she heard Nick make an offer. Her eyes grew as wide as saucers, Ellie gasping softly as she stepped back from the table.
" If you think me and you will ever just <********> around, you've got another thing coming for you, " Ellie scoffed," Y'know after high school I though you'd grow up like a normal person, but apparently you didn't. "
Ellie hoped Danielle was alright. That sort of thing could really have an impact on someone...
" Girls aren't some trash for you to throw away, Nick. When are you going to learn? You're exactly the douche you were in high school. " Ellie was fuming now, her knuckles white from the grip she had on the menu's she was clutching against her chest
" You should just take you and your friend's somewhere else cause I'm not serving you. " Ellie declared, turning her back to Nick and his friends and walking away. She pushed past other waiters and customers, heading all the way back to the kitchen where sighed. She didn't know she could rack up such nerve to do that. She had never refused service to someone before...
Carol came in asking for the whole story but Ellie waved her off. She couldn't believe that her former best friend could be such an a*****e like that, and come back and ask her if she'd be willing to mess around with him. She didn't like it that he assumed she was that easy.

Nicholas only shook his head when Ellie essentially called him a child as he continued to clean up the mess of water. "Girls aren't some trash for you to throw away, Nick. When are you going to learn? You're exactly the douche you were in high school." Now, usually words like that wouldn't phase him... but, coming from Ellie - his old best friend - they had sort of an impact on him. She was completely one hundred percent right. Nick hadn't changed his ways at all since high school. Why? Because, like Ellie, he was afraid of commitment, afraid of love, and afraid of being heartbroken. And with good reason, too.
He would never admit that in a million years, however. Many of his friends had asked him on numerous occasions why he doesn't see himself ever settling down, and his response had been the same every time: "Why commit to one girl for the rest of your life when you can have a different one every night? Relationships are boring."
In college, Nicholas had allowed himself to fall for one of his classmates. She was beautiful, sophisticated, funny, and just all around amazing. In Nick's eyes, she was the bees knees. She must have thought the same of him as well because the two ended up dating for two whole years and the night he was going to propose to her, he caught her in bed with one of her close friends. He ended it with her right then and there.
"You should just take you and your friends somewhere else cause I'm not serving you," she declared. "Ellie, wait!" The man jumped up to his feet and started after her, though she was already in the kitchen. ********. Scrunching up the damp napkin in his fist, Nicholas brought his hand to the back of his neck and rubbed it, embarrassed. He sat back down before dropping the napkin onto the table and folding his arms across his chest staring down at nothing in particular with a clenched jaw. Why did he feel so guilty? Usually, when women told him off, he just brushed it off and laughed in their faces like the a*****e he was. But, with Ellie, he just couldn't bring himself to...
"Dude. You good?" Chris asked, sounding genuinely concerned.
Nick peered up at them, giving them a look that read 'yeah, why the hell wouldn't I be?' "Of course. Let's get outta here. The man slid out his wallet from one of his jacket pockets, opened it up, and took out a twenty dropping it onto the table which covered the reservations he made. Nick shrugged on his coat as they neared the door. He had already decided that he would be paying her another visit tomorrow evening. It certainly wasn't going to be easy to get into her pants, especially after that little outburst, so he definitely had some major planning-out to do.

Ellie was the center of attention for a long time after Nick left. Carol and Maggie flooded her with questions, along with the manager. The manager told her that it was none of her business how the customer treated their dates, even if she knew them personally. So as a form of punishment, he sent her home early. She didn't mind though, she felt like she did a good deed.
Ellie walked out of the restaurant, hailing down a cab shortly after. It was around 11:00 o'clock now, so she was miserably tired and still a little angry. All she could do now was go home and sleep it off.
And that was exactly what she did.
-- timeskip --
Ellie was up bright and early, afraid to come to work. Her manager called and told her she was allowed to come back to work, as long as she didn't pull another random stunt. She happily agreed, and got dressed. She looked in the mirror after she finished putting her work clothes on. She pulled her hair back into a lazy bun, grabbed her keys and walked out the front door. She walked down many flights of stairs out to the open street outside of her apartment.
She hailed down another cab, smiling at the driver. She told him the address of the restaurant and moved into the traffic of the city. It was around 4:30, and she went in at 5:45. She usually barely made it due to traffic, and clocked in maybe a couple of minutes late. No one minded, but Ellie always apologized.
The girl paid the cab as they pulled up to the restaurant. He insisted that he would take care of it, but she paid him anyways. She thanked him, got out of the cab and hurried inside. The smell of b-b-q and chicken hit her at full force, making her smile and inhale deeply. To others, it may seemed weird but she loved the smell. She didn't really know why, but she did. It always made her hungry, and she always waited for her lunch break to buy something to eat from the restaurant. It was usually a salad or some chicken strips. She wasn't one to really try anything else.
Ellie clocked in and put on her apron. Her friends greeted her at the door, and she simply smiled at them before returning to her area. There was still a water stain on the carpet from where the water spilled onto the floor from yesterday. Ellie guessed she should of vacuumed before she left, so she decided to do that later on tonight. Ellie grabbed a rag and dipped it in soapy water from her little cleaning station at the edge of her area. She began to simply wipe down the tables, organizing the condiments and salt and pepper shakers.
Eventually around 7 the place became packed, so she was scurrying around like she was yesterday and every day before. Her lunch break was in fifteen minutes and she just couldn't wait til then. The sight of all the food coming from the kitchen made her stomach rumble at the most inappropriate times. Earlier, she was putting plates down onto a table in front of her guests, and her stomach let out the loudest growl. She was instantly embarrassed as the guests laughed at her, offering her their food. She waved her hand out in front of her, apologizing about 5 times.
She was still embarrassed, even when they said bye to her when they left. She placed her hands on her cheeks as she shook her head.
As 7:15 rolled around, Ellie ordered herself a chicken salad with a regular lemonade. She brought her things over to a lonely 2 seated table at the lest favorable part in her area. She didn't wanna take up a booth when there were families coming in for dinner while she was on her lunch break. She set her plate and drink onto the wobbly table, sitting herself on the stiff chair. She didn't mind, this was where she always sat on her lunch break. Maggie took over her area, which Ellie thanked her for immensely.
Sighing softly, Ellie pushed her bangs back and leaned over her food. Gosh, she was already tired and it was barely seven. She reminded herself to go to sleep early tonight, and not stay up late watching terrible movies.

A piercing stream of light exploded in Nick's face, it's brightness blinding him. Feeling disgruntled, Nicholas groaned lowly for more sleep, but the devilish light of the sun begged for justice to win him over. He tried to open his eyes, adjusting to the dim bedroom light. An arm lied limp across his naked chest, he noticed. A redhead was sleeping next to him, pink lips slightly parted and her once straight hair a frizzy mess upon her head. Chrissy? ... No.. Ginny? God, he didn't care. He would kick her out as soon as she woke up anyway. With sleepy eyes and twisted stuck-up hair, the man slid out of bed wearing only a pair of black Calvin Klein boxer briefs and then trudged into the bathroom where he gave himself a nice refreshing cold-water face wash.
"Mm.." he heard, and then a pair of arms wrapped around his waist from behind. The girl nestled her face into his back and placed a soft kiss on his right shoulder blade, Nick standing there as awkward as ever. "Uh.. you need to leave..." he mumbled, taking her wrists in his hands to unravel her arms.
Ginny or Chrissy or whatever her name was backed up, folding her arms across her exposed chest in a sassy manner. "Excuse me?"
Here we go, Nick thought. "Did I not make myself clear the first time? I said you need to leave, Chrissy." He said, a tinge of annoyance evident in his voice.
"It's Angela, a*****e." She muttered as she walked back out of the room beginning to pick up her clothes off the floor. Woah, he was way off.
"I don't care..." Nicholas muttered, just barely audible. He heard a door slam as he was in the midst of brushing his teeth signalling that she had left. With a relived sigh, the man quickly got dressed into a pair of black cargo shorts, a blue t-shirt, wearing a black and white checkered button up shirt over it. He rolled up his sleeves to his elbows and then slipped on his dark blue low top converse. A casual outfit, but he wasn't planning on going anywhere special for the day. He was merely going to visit his mom in the hospital, which was what he did every Tuesday and Friday. The man snatched up his keys and wallet from the coffee table on his way out the door.
Nicholas paid the elderly lady at the front desk a polite smile and nod as he continued his way down the hall to the elevator. Once he finally reached his mom's room, he opened the door quietly just in case she was taking a nap. He knew she wasn't when her face lit up, her bright blue eyes crinkling childishly. His mother was in a traumatic car crash about four years ago and has suffered from Amnesia ever since. She had lost her memory completely - when she woke up, she didn't even recognize Nick, saying that he wasn't her son and that she never had one. "Where's my mama?" She had asked him. She had the mind of a child.
"Nicholas!" She exclaimed, opening her arms for him. Nick smiled broadly at his mother and leaned down to give her a hug, wrapping his arms tightly but not too tightly around her waist. "Hey, ma" he whispered softly into her shoulder.
"Can you read me a story? The Cat in the Hat?" She asked excitedly, reaching over to grab the book from her table. It was her favourite. Nick scooted in beside her and took the book from her grasp, opening it to the first page. "The sun did not shine, it was too wet to play, so we sat in the house all that cold, cold, wet day" he began, making his mother bite her lip happily and put her head on his shoulder.
Nicholas stayed there for the entire day. When 6:30 rolled around, he said his goodbyes promising her that he would be back next week. Nick was too tired to go home and change again, so instead he drove straight to the restaurant in hopes that Ellie was working today. Seeing Carol at the counter yet again, the man put on his best charming smile and knocked on the wood once with his knuckle causing her to turn around. Her face almost instantly lit up. "Hey! Nick, right?" She asked, batting her long thick eyelashes at him. Oh, she was cute.
"You got it. Is, uh, is Ellie in today?" He questioned, arching his eyebrows slightly. The girl's smile faded a little as she nodded her head. "Yes. She should be at one of the back tables..." she said softly. "Thanks." Nick walked quickly to the back of the restaurant and smiled a little as he neared Ellie even though she hadn't noticed him yet. He pulled out the chair that was sitting on the opposite side of the table saying, "I hope you aren't expecting anyone." He sat down anyway, resting his forearms on the table. He laced his fingers together. "So, listen... I want you to know that I am truly sorry about last night. And to prove my apology I wanna take you on a date. To the movies, perhaps..?" he asked, automatically assuming that she would say yes. And what girl in their right mind wouldn't?

Ellie was halfway through her salad when Nick came and sat across from her. She choked on a piece of chicken when she saw him, immediately spitting it into her napkin. Holy s**t, she couldn't believe he had the nerve to show his face after the stunt he pulled last night. She was about to stab her fork into his left eye until he apologized. Her eyes softened from their cold hard glare, but she still kept her guard up. But then he told her that he wanted to take her out.
She set her fork down and folded her arms across her chest. She really looked like she was thinking it over but she really wasn't.
" Honestly Nick, I don't understand why you keep trying. We were friends but that was it. " Ellie chuckled, retrieving her fork and continuing to finish her salad. This guy was such an idiot, why the hell did he automatically think Ellie was attracted to him. There was no way in a million years she would ever be. She glanced up at him and chuckled again, shaking her head.
" I'll never go on a date with you, okay Nick? Never. How you treat women made me think, well, how am I any different from those other girls? You'll treat me exactly like you treated them, and I'd die before I let you do that. " Ellie got up and moved to her tiny cleaning cart that held the supplies she needed to do her job properly. It was exactly in front of the table she was sitting at, so Nick didn't have to yell to talk to her.
She began to scrape the remains of her salad into the trash bin on the side of her cart. She quickly drank the last of her lemonade and put the dirty dishes into the dirty bin on her cart. She had twenty more minutes of lunch break, so she decided to humor herself. She wouldn't play his game, but she'd make her own. She wasn't playing hard to get. Nick would never get her.
" If your gonna sit here and terrorize me, you have to order something. " Ellie said, grabbing a clean cup and pouring him some water. She always had a pitcher of tea and water ready, since they were the most popular drinks. Rule were rules.
She placed the glass in front of him and sat down. She could just start working again and completely ignore him, but she was curious. She wasn't the only waitress in this restaurant, and she wasn't the only girl in the world. Nick could have anyone he wanted, why was he wasting his time chasing after Ellie? She rubbed her eyes, yawning. Damn she was so tired she could literally right now. But that would be weird.
" I don't get you Nick. You're a nice looking guy. You can have any girl you want. You can have a family. Set of kids, a wife, yet you choose to mess around like an idiot. " Ellie said, tucking strands of hair behind her ears. She was being serious now and talking from the heart. If pained her to see that her used to be best friend was just messing around when he could have a life by now. That's what Ellie dreamed of. A nice family she could call her own, in a nice house on the beach. She smiled at the thought, leaning her elbows on the table.
Ellie grunted slightly when she realized she was daydreaming. The girl leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms once again. She didn't know what else to say to this guy. She checked the time on the clock behind Nick. Her lunch break was over in two minutes.
" You're wasting your time with me. I think you should leave. Ellie said, getting up and moving to her cart where she squirted hand sanitizer onto her hands.

Nicholas knew what was coming when he saw her fold her arms across her chest and put an inquisitive look on her face. He arched an eyebrow at her response. "And your point is..?" he trailed off. "Ellie, that was seven years ago. All I wanna do is take you out, that's it. I mean, it doesn't have to be the movies. We can go on a stupid little day-date if you would prefer," he offered. They would always go on friendly day-dates back then.
"I'll never go on a date with you, okay Nick? Never. How you treat women made me think, well, how am I any different from those other girls? You'll treat me exactly like you treated them, and I'd die before I let you do that." Oh, the girl had sass. The way she kept rejecting him like this made him want her even more. Nick turned in his wobbly chair to face her as she began to put away her dirty dishes and utensils in the mini cleaning cart. Nicholas squinted his eyes slightly and put a hand over his heart, acting as if he was hurt by her statement. "I'm hurt, Ellie. All I want to do is take you out for lunch and this is the kind of crap I receive?" He asked, purposely making her seem like the bad guy in the situation. "One date. Please. It's all I'm asking for."
Hearing her completely ignore his question, Nicholas shrugged his shoulders. "Fine by me." He said nonchalantly. The man lifted his hand and snapped his fingers at Carol, who just happened to be walking by. "Hey, Carol. Can I get a Heineken?" He asked politely, and she nodded her head vigorously before pacing into the kitchen. Nick looked back at Ellie, just as she said: "I don't get you Nick. You're a nice looking guy. You can have any girl you want. You can have a family. Set of kids, a wife, yet you choose to mess around like an idiot." Nicholas snickered some at that. "Because it's fun! Tell me.. where do you see the fun in sleeping next to the same person night by night and having to wake up extra early in the mornings just to beat the dreadful morning traffic in order to get to your crappy full-time job, just so you can only scarcely provide for your husband and your ungrateful little menaces that you call your children?" He questioned, folding his arms in front of him as he leaned forward a bit on the table.
When Ellie said that she "thinks he should leave", Nicholas smirked. Yet again, he turned sideways in his chair to face her as she squirted hand-sanitizer into the palm of her hand. "Ellie, baby. I'm not going to stop terrorizing you until you agree to go on a date with me. I will come in here every single day if that's what it takes." He leaned back against the back of the chair, getting comfortable. "One date, and I will never bother you again. Please?" He gave her his cute puppy dog eyes, his deep voice as soft as it could be.

Ellie was trying her hardest to drown him out. He was making the stupidest points, it was really making her angry. She abruptly turned to him, slamming her palms down onto the table. She looked him dead in the eye, her face growing red with anger.
" I don't want fun, Nick. I'm not like you. I want a peaceful life. I wanna grow old with someone I care about. I want them to care about me like I care about them. I don't care that I don't have the best job. I want a husband to struggle with me. I want him to be there through thick and thin with me. I don't need a lot of money. I need sanctuary. I need love. I will never go on a date with you, because you're none of that. " Ellie stepped back, her knuckles white. She huffed out, moving her bangs out of her face.
Ellie was about to explode at how angry she currently was. Her head was pounding. Wow she had not gotten so worked worked up in a long time. It felt kind of like a weight was lifted off of her shoulders though.
" Terrorize me all you want. The answer will always, always be no. Ellie said. Carol came back with the Heineken as Ellie stomped off, furious.
" Oh? What's wrong with Ellie? " Carol asked.
Ellie was growling as she stormed off to the restroom, needing to get away from all the commotion. Once she was in the restroom, she leaned over the sink, closing her eyes. She really needed to calm down. Who knew Nick could push her limits to the point where she just needed to count to ten. She inhaled and exhaled many times, looking at herself in the mirror.
Once she felt her muscles relaxing, Ellie ran water over her forehead and cheeks, avoiding her eyes. Her makeup actually looked nice today, she couldn't mess it up. Ellie was about to leave until she heard the restroom doors open. She looked up and smiled weakly when she saw Maggie. The other waitress gasped, immediately coming to Ellie.
" Ellie, oh my gosh! Are you ok? You look terrible!" Maggie exclaimed. Seeing the opportunity she had to get away from the restaurant, Ellie immediately took it.
" Actually, I'm feeling really sick. I think I'm gonna throw up... Ellie lied, doubling over the sink. Maggie grabbed her elbow, worried.
" I'll go tell Jake (*the manager) you're going home sick. Ellie I hope you feel better! "
Ellie nodded and immediately got the hell out of there, quickly running out of the restaurant. Instead of instantly grabbing a cab, she walked down the street, hailing one down there. She ran her hands through her hair as the car parked in front of her. She quickly got in the cab, telling the driver her address and to floor it. The driver complied, the tires screeching as they took off.
Once she arrived home, she immediately took her apron off, jumping onto her lonely bed. She just wanted to cry and scream she was so frustrated. She was losing hard earned money, she couldn't afford to be skipping work like this, even if Nick made her want to pull her hair out. Ellie flipped over onto her back, groaning loudly. She didn't know what to do anymore. She was so fed up with Nick and his s**t.
Staring up at the ceiling, Ellie felt tears starting to blur her vision. She had no idea why she was crying. She guessed she just had a lot of bottled up emotions. She sniffled, dabbing her eyes with the edge of her pillow. Ellie sighed loudly, closing her eyes.
And after a few minutes, she eventually fell asleep.

Nick watched as Ellie stomped off, annoyed. He cracked open his Heineken and took a swig, looking at Carol out of the corner of his eye when she asked what was wrong with Ellie. "Beats me.." he lied, putting his bottle down on the table. What would he do? He wanted that date! Though, it didn't look like she was going to change her mind any time soon, no matter how many times he asked her. Nick pursed his lips slightly as he sat there, thinking. He had to approach her differently, make her think that he isn't the same guy he was in high school. He would have to lead her on, and for quite some time it looked like. On his way out of the restaurant, he noticed a paper that read "HIRING NOW", and he smirked as an idea popped into his head.
~ Time Skip ~
Nick waltzed into the restaurant early the next day with his resume in his hand. "Carol, is your manager in today?" he asked, showing her his resume. Her eyes lit up upon the sight. "Yes! Just a second." In a hurry, she paced back into the kitchen where the manager was.
A short fat man came waddling out toward Nick, greeted him, and then took his resume, reading it over. "Hm.. you have quite the work experience, eh?"
Nick chuckled at his statement, smiling politely. "Yes sir, I do." The man questioned him more, asking him the typical interview questions, and then hired him on the spot. "I would like you to be here at 9AM sharp tomorrow for training. Have I made myself clear?"
Nick nodded his head, ecstatic. "Crystal," he replied, giving the mans hand a firm shake. Carol was listening in on their conversation, and when it was over, she ran back into the kitchen to tell Ellie. "Jake just hired Nick!" She exclaimed happily, clapping her hands together.
Nick, in the mean time, decided to seat himself at a two chaired table before pouring himself a glass of water. Success.
