Name: Donya Ghorbani
Nickname: None.
Age: 20.
Birthday: June 21 - a solstice baby.
Sign: Gemini and Cancer cusp, but Gemini, technically
Gemstone: Pearl
Blood Type: B-
Fav. Food: Indian food, especially shami kebab, especially mutton. Also, just mutton and lamb in general. Mmm! (note: she's Iranian,
not Indian, before someone asks)
Hated Food: Watercress sandwiches, other things that she considers tasteless.
School: She attended Crystal Academy for a while, but she quickly set her sights on HITS once it opened up - and, well, she's there now, working towards an associates degree and surrounded by people who share her interests. Aww, ye.
Hobbies:Puzzles - No, not jigsaws - or puzzle games (although she guesses those can be fun, too). Donya likes math and logic puzzles, the kind that are intended to take a few hours to figure out or the kind that comprise puzzle hunts (
puzzle hunts! Working on puzzles with other people is actually the best). First, they're
interesting, and second, they draw on such a wide and varied knowledge base (or a small one - Donya can admit they're usually geared towards mathy-minded people. But hey! It's wide within the larger context of math.) that they make her feel accomplished when she completes them. They also kind of keep her on her toes.
Math competitions - What? Okay, so her IMO dreams can no longer be accomplished now, but she's still
good at competition, if maybe only locally or in, you know,
college-level meets, and that feels good to Donya. She loves the people, the math camps, the traveling (and sightseeing, a little bit), and most of all the math. A lot of Donya's identity is centered around her history with math competitions, and she really enjoys the grind. And the nerds, and the closet cosplays! There is something about competing that sends thrills down her veins.
Running - So what if she's got short legs? That doesn't mean she can't have fun; she's not a fan of competitive running, after all. Running is a source of peace for Donya, a way to sort her thoughts out: she spends a lot of her runs feeling introspective, but she also considers running a good way to hang out with someone and get to know them. Even though she tends not to, well, talk much during runs.
ISSF Rifle - If running gives her time to sort her thoughts out, rifle gives her time to clear them from her mind. Rifle carries, for Donya, a sense of tranquility - it's a very
still sport. It's always easy for Donya to destress, but it's even easier when all she has to focus on is staying in position and hitting the target. She's thinking about maybe transferring to DCU once her associate's degree is up and joining their team, since HITS lacks one - application season's nearly upon her!
Virtues: Resilient -- Deadlines, pressure, tests - Donya takes them in stride. She's really good at staying calm in otherwise stressful situations, and also at making the best of it. No one would call her optimistic, or unrealistically dreamy, but nothing ever really seems to shock or devastate her. She knows how to lessen the impact on herself and walk away feeling, well, just fine. Some
try to call the trait optimism, but that's not really the case: she doesn't expect good outcomes; she merely takes bad outcomes well.
Focused -- She may seem callous when it comes to things that might be
important, but she knows how to focus on the task at hand. She throws her all into things, and she's the sort who refuses to let any sort of distraction tear her away. That's a really good thing, if you agree with her task (she always does, of course).
Clever -- She likes puzzles and math competition, and she mostly likes math competition because it reminds her of puzzles. It stands to reason, therefore, that she's a smart girl. She knows how to attack things from different angles and with persistence, and she's smart enough to work her way through loopholes and proofs and dusty academic jargon. Perhaps this might not hold up as well in battle, but she's certainly brainy.
Independent -- Self-assured and smart, Donya makes it a point to
not care about what other people think of her. She makes decisions without input from others, and she doesn't wait for approval before moving ahead. She's fairly immune to peer pressure and doesn't much care for what the herd thinks. She'll move on by herself if she has to, and screw anyone who says otherwise.
Flaws: Flippant -- It's hard to get Donya to take things seriously - even when they come to matters that'd ordinarily be of life-and-death. She prioritizes things by personal interest rather than actual relevance to her life. Things like maintaining a job or internship hold little interest to her, and she's the sort of person who skips a few pills when she's sick sometimes, or delays chores and homework until it's really the last minute. She'll get out of it intact...right?
One-Track Mind -- So, Donya gets into the zone sometimes, right? She calls it focus. It's a good thing, a lot of the time: she lets nothing distract her from her goal. The rest of the time, it's a bad thing: she lets
nothing distract her from her goal. She gets a little intense and obsessive, and while she might end up achieving whatever her goal is, well, being around her while she's on her way isn't pretty. And maybe it wouldn't hurt to acknowledge that she has to eat sometimes, or maybe pay attention to her classes that aren't the big project she's currently fascinated by. Or her friends. It'd be really nice if she found more time to relax with them.
Arrogant -- Donya'd say she's prideful, and she certainly does know her strengths. She's smart and she gets things done - what's not to love? She tends to be dismissive of those who are trying to do what she thinks she's great at, and she's also pretty dismissive of those who don't share her goals or her ability to not let obstacles get her down. She thinks this means her friend pool is better - more
selective, she'd say. In truth she's probably cutting herself off from people she might otherwise get along with.
Cryptic -- Her favorite thing to do is get other people to puzzle with her. Whether that means entering contests with them, or, well, making her statements as enigmatic as they could possibly be, she's content. Of course, other people do not generally appreciate the fact that Donya chooses her words carefully - she tends to go for harmless trickery and piles upon piles of vague statements, rather than actually hurtful things, but sometimes she doesn't know when to stop, and sometimes, it's just too much.
