Newgrange had not necessarily been powering up as much as he should have been; it wasn't that he didn't want to, it was the life sometimes got in the way. The bakery had been busy, and every time he thought about powering up, there was always this nagging feeling in the back of his mind—that he had to clean his house, or call his mother, or learn a new recipe or something…

Tonight, he couldn't think of any excuses.

He was caught up with everything life could have thrown at him.

He told himself that powering up was a willing thing, but then, why did it feel so forced?

Ultimately, he already knew the answer. He was still stumbling in the dark, worrying about things that hadn't happened yet—things that could happen. But the only way to fight your fears…

Was to face them.

So, tonight he had powered up. Tonight, he had explored Destiny City, looking for something he still couldn't find.

What he did find, though, was the energy signature of something familiar—something he recognized: another page.

Given how hard he had found it to find other pages, he beelined—straight towards it.

Themiscyra hopped from foot to foot, pleased that the even thickening scar tissue on her various injuries wasn't so accompanied by twitching muscles and all around pain. Soreness still lingered if she patrolled for too long, but that evening she felt... good. Thus far, anyways. Her visit to her city was prowling around her mind more and more, and the best medicine seemed to be to simply.... prowl the city she knew there on Earth.

Least she could have had a worse night for it.

She was keeping close to the ground that evening, though now and then she'd move up onto a roof. It was hard to fight the growing energy she felt sparking through her system. Powering up... always livened her up. Eventually. The energy to move, to fight, to climb.... to explore the city in avenues she'd never really had access to before becoming Themiscyra. Didn't seem to matter how often she did it. Something new always surprised her.

A flick on her mental radar, and Themiscyra lingered, paused on a low roof and peering about this way and that with lips pursed. A knight's aura. Her teeth flashed in the lamp lights, and her sandals began to wander in the direction of the other aura. Someone she knew? Or not~? Seemed like new people were waking up all the time. Her eyes skimmed the neighboring rooftops, wondering if she might find them hanging of an edge--or where they down below~? On that, she lingered on the edge, peering into the alley below. Just in case.

While Newgrange had moved as quickly as possible, for a moment he worried he might have missed the knight he was looking for when he found himself staring down an empty alleyway. But the energy signature was still there, and…

Slowly, he lifted his gaze upwards—and blinked when he was staring up at a Mars page.

"Oh," he blurted, and then waved. "Hello! I thought there was another Page around here. I should have known to take to the rooftops, that seems to be the best place to meet people! Are you patrolling, or…?"

His voice trailed off; there wasn't really an end to the question. Was there anything but patrolling for a Page to do? If there was, he didn't want to admit that he didn't know it—and he would rather worry more about how to get on the same level of vision rather than shout between the two of them for the duration of their conversation; already he was glancing out of his peripheral vision to look for a way up.

The wave got her to grin, and she waved down accordingly. From what she could see.... greens? Jupiter or Earth then, from what she'd seen. Would need a better look at his outfit--or just the emblem--to know for certain. "Patrol. Exercise. Stretching. Call it what you want, it's all about the same without any youma or Negabrats to take down. What about you?" She chirped down to him before she'd decided to continue shouting would be a ridiculous choice of action. Also the same moment she decided she was done with the roofs for the moment, vanishing from her point on the edge to look for a way down. It didn't take her long to locate a dumpster around the corner from where the other Page was, pausing only to return to her previous spot to try to signal for him to wait. At least the sounds of a body hitting the dumpster's lids was loud enough to probably connect the dots, followed by thunks of heels hitting pavement.

All together rounded up with the Martian coming around the corner towards the man with the grin still merrily sitting across her face. Though she did have to rub at her right thigh a little, thinking she might have hit that a little harder than she'd thought. "I was gonna head down soon anyways. Just roofs are faster--easier to bee-line around without getting spotted. And yeah, more people up there." Her gaze flicked over his outfit, and quickly got the answer to her question--Earth. Cool. "Themiscyra, don't think we've had the chance to meet before," she introduced herself, offering her hand as she peered at his face, trying to determine if she'd seen it at any of the random gatherings. "Gotta ask--your wonder's really here on Earth? Like, possible to travel by foot, car, boat, and-or plane, here on Earth?" She got how magic was necessary for everyone else's. But Earth? Really?

Hey, if anyone was the knight of some golden-sand beach with crystal waters, she was so down for a week's vacation.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Themiscyra." Newgrange took her hand and gave it a firm shake, but faltered with her questions. "You know," he said after a brief pause, "I'm not really sure. I've never been to my wonder."

Never even tried.

"It's on the list of things to do, but…"

He didn't have an excuse. It was hard enough to piece things together like this; he didn't have any idea what else he could handle. Going to some place—some 'Earth but not Earth'—was a little more than he wanted on his plate.

…But, he felt ashamed that he hadn't gone—and Themiscyra had reminded him that he shouldn't keep putting it off.

"Let me get back to you on that. Have you…been to your wonder?" he prompted, looking at her curiously.

"Oh, has no one explained it to you yet?" Her eyes widened a tad to hear he hadn't gone to his wonder yet, but her expression was curious and without judgment. It wasn't like she expected everyone to get the same near instant crash-course she got. Heck, Ashur had already made it clear to her some people just.... didn't jump right into it.

Of course, with how spread out all the knights seemed to be anyways....

Newgrange's offer at least made her grin. "I'm holding you to that-- and yeah, I have." The return question was expected, but she shrugged it off. Or tried to. "Few times. It's both really trippy being on Mars, and one of the coolest things I've ever done. Totally worth your time to see your own wonder once you can." Ignoring the weird... visions. Memories, Valhalla had called them. Creepy factor, in her book. She decided to not mention that though to the man before her.

For a moment, Newgrange debated her words with himself She encouraged him to go to his wonder…and now, he was more curious than ever. Though, there was something a bit more whimsical about the promise of being whisked away to Mars, versus Earth…

He could go anywhere on Earth already. But…on the other hand, he liked Earth. It was his home. If he was going to have been assigned a planet, how could he be upset that he'd gotten this one?

"You seem pretty knowledgeable," he said with a grin. "I appreciate it, I'll have to head there soon."

As soon as he figured out what he'd need—and how to get back.

"Where do you get all your answers?" he asked, shifting positions where he stood. "I'm still picking things up. Slowly, I suppose. Mostly just struggling with the whole fighting thing, but everything else is coming together."

Her pride puffed her up a little at his complement, though she did at least have the dignity to bow her head in thanks. Didn't mean she could wipe away the stupid grin on her face, though. "When you do, you'll know what to do after a little bit. It just kinda... comes to you, like through meditation or something I guess? It's really, really weird. But it does." Valhalla had explained it a lot better than she had, but she was trying. It really had just come to her. She'd just stood around and then it... hit.

And then they'd been standing on Mars.

His question made her blink, head cocking as she again compared his experiences to others she'd met. Her brows furrowed when he'd mentioned struggling with fighting, though. That was particularly dangerous given their circumstances. "About a week or so after I awoke, there were some knights gathering together in some games. One put up with all my questions and kinda took me under wing--or I guess I kinda made him," she added with a slightly sheepish laugh, rubbing at her nose a little. "I just asked all the questions I could think of and he just put up with me. That's... how everyone has to learn." Again she frowned, eyeing the Earth Page curiously. "Senshi get guardians, I donno what the Negaverse has but.... knights only have each other. And senshi."

Themiscyra rocked back on her heels a little, chin lifting as the smile returned. "How's about I help you with the fighting? I've got a little knowledge of that, too."

Newgrange had to make a mental note to himself to actually ask for help rather than just assume he was going to stumble upon all the answers himself. And right now…seemed like a good idea to open some doors.

"About the fighting," he said after a moment of thought. "You think you can help me with that?" He shifted positions, trying to understand exactly what she was offering him. He wasn't one to go to a class and try to learn, but he was always a better hands-on learner and…

If she was offering, he'd really like to know how to not get killed.

"I mean—definitely, yes, if you are offering, I…I know I need the experience. I've been lucky so far, but I'm afraid that if I get hurt bad enough…"

If they didn't kill him, and he ended up in the hospital or something?

"I'm afraid it's going to wind up taking me out for longer than I want. I can't really afford to let my family know what I'm up to, or risk getting anyone I care about hurt. Not that I want to be hurt, but…yeah," he said, nodding and speaking with a little more conviction. "I'd like to know how to fight."

…What good was having all these powers to protect people if you couldn't do anything, anyway?

His concerns were more than understandable. Her own family was more on her case since her injuries, though she'd been able to pawn them off on the Negaverse for other reasons than sorry I was out fighting a Captain, mom. It was a legitimate worry about how family would respond. Especially if the person wasn't prone to combat prior to all this breaking out in their life. "You're a knight, so sooner or later the fighting's going to hit you," she told him calmly, grins dropping as the gravity of their lives loomed. "If you fight, you'll probably get hurt. If you fight someone stronger than you, you'll definitely get hurt. But at least if you know how to fight, maybe you can hurt the other person first. Or at least know how to get out of the way and to backup before they can hurt you."

She wasn't sure it was even possible to hide from it all. Wasn't Chaos everywhere? Could someone just not power up and that's that? But all the youma, all the attacks from agents and... ******** over to his side, she spread her feet wide back to front, angling her feet to give herself the best support and balance. "Ok. Try to keep in mind when you're fighting, you need the most solid base you can give yourself. You won't always be able to do this so neat and easy, but after a while it's more habitual to just give yourself a wide stance." Raising her fists up in a guard formation before her face, she sent out a few straight jabs. "I'm gonna assume you know nothing and say never have your thumb inside your fist. You'll hurt yourself hella bad. Also, aim to hit with your first two knuckles instead of your fingers. Again, you'll just hurt yourself."

Pausing, she glanced at Newgrange with a slight smile. "Too basic? Wanna step it up to more contact fighting? Or is this ok?"

Newgrange sucked in a breath; she might have been going over the basics--which he did already know--but he didn't want to miss a thing and listened. And asked questions, and got hit.

Got hit a lot.

He showed trepidation when returning any of his blows, but he understood both that Themiscyra was a warrior and that she meant nothing personal. He figured she felt the same way about his own blows--which were hesitant and while they might have been well placed, they were not particularly enthusiastic. He had an issue with putting his full power into anything and, in every opportunity, showed restraint.

He wasn't sure how long they sparred for, but by the end of it, he was tired. And had work in the morning, and was already certain that he was going to have a few bruises he wasn't going to know how to explain. He finally held up a hand while he was trying to catch his breath. "--All right," he said shortly. "--I don't think I've mastered fighting, but I think my body's had enough for tonight. I won't be able to get out of bed in the morning if I keep up like this, so I think I'm going to have to call it a night."

He flashed a hasty, apologetic smile up to the woman. "I'm sorry--I hope that's okay. You...you're really a great teacher, thank you."

Hey, he did better than she'd expected.

When Newgrange put up his hand to stop, Themiscyra grinned, huffing a little herself from the movements and effort. Throwing punches was still throwing punches, even when you were keeping yourself in check and trying to instruct. She.... was concerned that the guy might not actually put force into his attacks in a real fight. But she kept up a bright smile as she gave a little salute to show she got the hint of the wave before laughing. "No worries. Don't want to make you pass out the first time."

Straightening and stretching a little, she frowned a bit. No, he wasn't a master, but had her intro been enough? She wasn't positive, but... it was better than nothing, right? When she looked back to him and caught the smile and thanks, she flicked her own smile back on and nodded a few times. "No you're fine! Fighting's not something you pick up over night, even with magical boosts like ours. Just..." She paused and eyed him before huffing, "Just I'm not sure it'll be enough to really make sure you've got it. They're gonna be attacking you to hurt you, or kill you. I just want you to know you can defend yourself from that." It wasn't to make herself feel better. It wasn't her life.

"Call it a night, no issue, but if you ever wanna spar, please don't hesitate to ask. Seriously, I'm free almost whenever, or can hook you up with another knight or two to give you some pointers." Ashur, Andronicus, Kairatos, Val.... anyone would be willing to help him out, no doubt there. Provided he ask for it. Themiscyra extended her hand to Newgrange, a slightly formal tone for a farewell but one she hoped was good-natured enough.

Newgrange listened with rapt attention. "I'm sure I'll need more practice in the future, I appreciate the offer. Here—" he fished around for a moment and pulled out a crumpled bakery card from his pocket. It wasn't in the best condition, but it was legible at least.

He held it out for her. "This is me. Well—I mean, you can reach me here, at any time. Arias. I work there, at the bakery, so…If you want to call or drop by some time, I can get your information and we can schedule something? —And if you like sweets, I'm more than happy to load you up with them as payment for your help."

He was tired and perhaps it was obvious; he didn't try to let it show, but more than just exhaustion from sparring was weighing him down, now. "I'd love to talk to you some more. And try to get in contact with some other Knights. But, I really just can't thank you enough, you've already done so much for me."

Kaefaux

She was surprised he had a business card when powered up, but when he offered it to her and explained it was where he worked.... well. Themiscyra accepted the card with an awed expression. It was an extremely convenient way to give someone your contact info, especially if you were ok with them knowing whom you were normally. Plus, bakery?

"Oh jeeze I will happily stop by. I'm not even gonna attempt to hide my sweet tooth," she laughed, grinning to him. Man, if she got paid in sweets she was gonna need to work out more. "Name's Danika when I'm not this. Donno if you'll be able to recognize me now that I've said that but we'll see!"

Shutting her mouth for a moment, she finally settled for a quick pat on his shoulder. "Knights need to stick together, y'know? But we can talk about all that another time. Have a good day at work tomorrow," she added on reflex as she turned to head off. Probably should get some sleep herself before her own shift. Or just keep patrolling. "You'll figure out whatever balance you need to work with between the two sides, it just take a bit! See ya!"

At least, that was her own hope.
