Pambana was patterned like a horse - a creature he had never seen, so he was unaware of how suited his racing temperament was to his pelt.
He had wanted to be as fast as possible since his mother first told him that cheetah were the fastest runners in the land. What could be better? Beating everyone at races, being able to quickly escape your enemy, a better odd at catching your prey?
He couldn't think of anything better, and running gave him a natural high, the wind in his short mane, the world whipping by as he pelted through the long grasses.
It could be difficult sometimes to find a suitable place for such running - long open plains were obviously the best. Due to the speed and duration it could not be done in any area that was remotely secluded.
Today Pambana had come to one such place, he took a deep breath in and smiled.

Clandestin was anxious - not in the sense that something bad was always going to happen, like her bother did, but in anticipation. She was ready to go, ready to slingshot out like the run rising over the mountains in all it's suddenness, and light! She had her brother in tow, but just like when they were younger, the white klipspringer had tired quickly.
Blanc pressed his head into her flank, murmuring softly about something or other - it happened in an alarming frequency and Clandestin was convinced it had something to do with the strangeness of their mountain home, so all she could do was drag her brother down the mountain and into the plains.
They would return, of course - maybe - but for right now they were free, and they could run! The male walked at a steadier gait than she was comfortable with, and Cland felt light a small fawn again, racing around her brother to hurry.
"C'mon, Blanc, just race me!" She urged, though he just shook his head, giving a slightly pained look and she could only sigh. "Well, if you won't run with me, I'll find someone who will," she gave a teasing laugh, running off and leaving the white klipspringer behind.

Pambana was just about to sprint off himself when he saw a peculiar creature. A small black deer. But it wasn't the appearance of the creature that was peculiar to him, it was more the nature of what it was doing.
The little thing had begun to zip across the open plains, and at first Pambana assumed there must be a predator giving chase nearby. He had a quick look but could see nothing. Odd. He furrowed his brow. Perhaps the creature was just a little peculiar, or was trying to escape something he couldn't see.
He loped quickly after the small deer and made himself large and obvious so he would not be seen as a threat, he certainly wasn't interested in eating this one.
"Hello! Are you okay?"

Clandestin was focused on trying to outrun the wind that she nearly didn't notice the cheetah running up beside her. He didn't appear to want to attack her so she allowed herself to keep pace with him. She knew Blanc, who was probably still in view somewhere, would throw a fit at the action, but she was finally running again, and it was thrilling! She wouldn't stop now - she couldn't! "I'm fantastic!" She laughed. Perhaps he could race her - cheetahs were certainly fast creatures, but Clande had a lot of stamina, so she could probably out distance him if she tried hard enough.

Pambana was a little taken aback. Here was a little Klipspringer who wasn't afraid that he was after her to eat her, and indeed that was the case. She seemed to be running, happy and free, which was just the way he felt when he was running.
He laughed too, it certainly was an odd thing, and then he grinned.
"Fancy a race?" He said, half joking, half serious.
