School is ending soon. How many times had this thought run through Rene's head in the past few weeks. Past few days... hours, minutes. The dark haired teen sent a sidelong glance towards his friend, who was huddled in the love seat with him. He glanced over his shoulder, and to some degree Mikhail's as the taller teen was leaning against him some, to glance at the book he had been reading. Rene really hadn't been paying attention much earlier when Mikhail had scampered off to go find it. "What are you reading?" He asked softly, trying not to disturb the few people who were in here besides them. To be honest, he still wasn't quite paying attention. He was a little too focused on other things. It had become almost habitual to do things together ever sense they first met. The pair were almost inseparable. And over time, the two had gotten very close, best friend close. That thought alone caused Rene to shift slightly. That would be over at the end of the year. Rene was a grade level higher then Mikhail, and would be entering DCU next year while Mikhail had his senior year here. They had both promised to still do things together, but that hadn't kept Rene from dwelling on it. With a soft sigh, Rene shook his head, bangs swaying gently as he did so. If he didn't start to snap out of it soon, Mikhail would notice and start getting nervous. Rene wasn't about to bog him down with trivial worries. "You know, if you slide down any farther, you're going to fall off my arm completely and land in my lap."

The Library had sort of become their hangout. It was sister free, both of the teenage and munchkin variety, most of the time. Not that Mikhail wasn't fond of his friends sisters, but sometimes being the focus of their attentions could be a little scary and daunting. Plus it was relatively quiet, so they could relax on some comfy, if not a little bit worn sofa's, and enjoy each others company, or study, or derp around wasting time. Because that's what teenagers did, right?
Mikhail and browsed a little while, flicking through books, looking for something useful for upcoming tests, but found a misplaced book that he had read before. Being the weirdo that he was, he wondered down the isle to put it back, before he saw that the book was now part of a series of several. Mikahil reconsidered, plucking the second of the series out, and taking both with him. Might as well give the first one a re-read, right? It had been a few years. He plopped back down, and red in silence for a while, enjoying his best friends companionship in a way that made him forget he was constantly horribly uncomfortable around people.
Rene had been quiet, and a little distant the past few days, more so as the year got to the end school term, but he figured that was because he was getting ready to start a new school. It was a scary prospect. But if it didn't let up soon, he was going to start asking questions. It wasn't in Mikhail's nature to pry, but if it went on much longer his concern would grow. So instead he lounged beside his friend, long legs sprawled out in front of him like he had collapsed onto the sofa ( It was really more of a love seat made for people Rene's size, not his ) and just kept him company, hoping that his BFF knew he was here if he needed to vent about stress of a new school.
His eyes sped across the page, for he was ever a fast reader, when he heard Rene's voice. " Hmm...? Oh. Its one of the Modern Fairytale books by holly black. I read the first one a long time ago, and just found out they are a series. They aren't terribly difficult r-reads, but they are fun. " He tossed a quick grin out to the dark haired teen, though he almost seemed not to notice. " have you ever read them? They are kinda neat. Fairytales and the modern world all mixed together in the setting of the big c-city? "
Mikhail leaned over and kinda elbow nudged him, waggling his eyebrows, trying to maybe lighten his friends mood. ' I c-could read to you, that seems to cheer Franky up. " And without waiting for a reply he flopped.
" Not my fault the couches are so t-tiny. " His voice was happy, and he sort of flopped over. His head now more firmly on Rene. " I c-cant get cooooomfortable. n-no room. " He kinda of poked the bear a little bit, trying to get his buddy out of his funk. He kicked one of his legs up over the armrest of the sofa, effectively going boneless.

"Oh yeah?" He asked quietly, though he seemed a little more interested just a moment ago. "I've never head of them..." Surprising considering how often he'd read if left alone. Though... given recent events, he hadn't had much alone time. Which, in all honesty, was okay with him. "I'll hafta look them up then. If you like them then I'm sure I would too." "Mmm Well maybe it's your fault for being so tall." He teased lightly, making a small noise when Mikhail elbowed him. Rene rolled his eyes and smiled lightly. "You're going to do it regardless on if I agree so go ahead." He snorted lightly as Mikhail wriggled around purposely. "Okay you troll. I get it. No space!" He laughed. "We'll hafta commander the bean bag chairs next time... Maybe those will work?" Rene leaned back into the sofa, resting an arm on the end. "Seriously, you're going to fall in my lap if you keep wriggling like that. I'm not that comfy."

Mikhail grinned triumphantly when Rene laughed, his goofy diabolical plan of cheering his friend up actually working. He kind of just relaxed, his head resting sort of against Rene's ribs. " Eh, your not so boney. B-besides, my hair is a built in pillow. " He grinned, flipping back to the first page of the book, settled now quite comfortably with both legs over the arm rest of the sofa. He made a grunt of agreement. Really the bean-bag chairs were the way to go if you had a group if varying body length, but they were always the first ones to be occupied.
" N-now hush, or I will cut short story time. Tithe. A modern Faerie tail, by Holly Black " And with that the teen began to read out loud, only stuttering mildly, comfortable and content with his friend, who was seeming to lighten up a bit. Maybe he would take him out for coffee. The magical caffeinated elixir always seemed to cheer him up. He wondered if the effect was as strong in the afternoon as it was in the morning.

"Am too.. And you're a goof." Rene laughed as he nudged Mikhail just to be a jerk. "It certainly is... " Mikhail's hair had gotten fluffier and longer in the last few months. Rene snickered quietly as Mikhail told him to hush or what the consequences would be if he didn't. It wasn't long before Rene's attention shifted again. Mikhail had only gotten a few pages into the story when the shorter haired teen started hearing some murmuring and snickering a table over. Dark grey eyes glanced over to find Kyle, once of the school's jocks snickering with his group of friends. And when they caught Rene looking at them, snickers quickly turned into scowls and sneers. Rene rolled his eyes and shifted back to Mikhail. "Why do you even hang out with that guy Rene? He's such and uncoordinated neanderthal. He's almost always dropping or tripping over something!" Kyle taunted loudly. "And he sounds like an idiot with that stutter! 'I-i'm sorry I'm s-such a f-freak Rene. P-please forgive me.'." Kyle mocked trying his best to sound like Mikhail. "He'll never be one fo the cool kids you know. No matter how much he hangs out with you." "Shut up Kyle!" Rene snapped, glaring over his shoulder at the teen. "You know he's probably using you right? I bet that lanky idiot's only making friends with you so he can get answers. He's a grade level below you Rene. He know's you've done all the class work he has to do now. Face it, that guy's nothing but a cheater."

Mikhail who hadn't really been listening to anything going on around them, felt Rene's attention drift, and the dark haired boy shifted restlessly. He continued on, his voice soft at a level that wouldn't really travel across the library. Not that it was one of those libraries that people would get kicked out for being just a little to loud, but it was just polite.
Mikhail's shoulders tensed up when he heard a very familiar voice, one that made him want to flinch away. Ugh... Kyle. His father had pushed and tried for Mikhail to join the basket ball team. Originally his father had been hell bent on getting him to try for football, but he simply just didn't have the muscles for it. But he was tall, and he was fast. So clearly his son should try Basketball, right?
He had been a freshman, and Kyle a Sophomore. Mikhail had not only done horribly at the tryouts, but he had tripped coming down the bleachers, Kyle never let him forget it. Kyle's family had a long line of jocks, and Mikhail had even tutored their youngest son, who was just a freshman this year. Despite Mikhail hard tutoring, the boy had still failed his courses. Kyle's father had lodged a complaint against Mikhail, because it was simply incomprehensible that the problem lie with his lazy youngest son just not doing his school work.
Kyle seemed to get great pleasure out of picking at him like he was a piece of dirt under his fingernail, and in the library, there were no teachers to keep his attitude in check.
Neanderthal. Mikhail's shoulders flinched. He was always self conscious of his gangely limbs, which seemed to just be growing to fast for his motor skills to keep up with. Mikhail had stopped reading the book, and slowly slid his legs over off of the armchair, so for a split moment he was just curled on his side on the sofa, head resting against Rene, before pushing himself into a sitting position with one arm.
" K-kyle y-you know I d-d-don't ch-ch-ch ... " He made a sound of extreme frustration, his face red with embarrassment, dark eyes shimmering. " ch-ch-ch " The book dropped forgotten on the side of the sofa, he raised his hands to his hair in an almost automatic gesture, closing his eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath, trying to get past the stutter that was now taking control of him because of nerves.

"Oh right. My mistake. You'd probably fail at cheating, just like everything else you do. Seriously, you couldn't get my brother to pass one stinking test! What kind of tutor are you anyway? For that matter, why did the school even allow you to apply!" "I said shut up!" Rene snapped, growling when Kyle and his friends just continued to laugh. His growls stopped however as he felt Mikhail shift and stir against. Dark eyes turned from the jock to his friend immediately and his lips formed into a frown almost just as fast. His gaze traveled upward as Mikhail uncurled from his side to sit up. Rene watched as his friend tried to defend himself, only to trip over one of the things he was most sensitive about. Across the room, Kyle and his pose continued to cackle like a gang of hyenas. "Hey." Rene said as he grabbed Mikhail's arm. "Hey." He gave it a small shake in an attempt to get the other too look at him. "Don't. Mikhail. Don't. Just ignore him." Despite his words, it appeared to Rene that Mikahil was just curling in on himself further, much to the jocks delight. "Mikhail?" "See! The idiot can't even defend himself! And he thinks he can tutor people and try out for sports? How the hell is he gonna handle something like that if he can't even talk straight?!" Kyle roared. "I've seen three year old's talk smoother than him. He's a waste of time, energy and space Rene. Why do you even hang out with him. He's not worth it."

Mikhail flinched once again, hardly more then a tensing of his shoulders, but it was as if Kyle's words were a physical blow to his body, instead of just sounds. Rene grabbed his arm, and he took another deep breath, opening his eyes and looking at Rene.
He lowered his arms, only closing his eyes for a moment before Kyle and his flock of jocks started at it again. His eyes flicked from Rene to them " I-i-i-... g-gotta go... " He said, standing up a little to fast, practically ripping his sleeve out of rene's grasp with the sudden height difference. He took a couple of steps away and tripped over his own book-bag, not actually falling, but stumbling enough that it elicited a riot of laughter from the jobs at the table, one of them slapping his hand on the wood as if he were watching the worlds greatest comedy.
The commotion caused other students to peer over curiously from other tables, some of them coming out from the isles from browsing the books to see what was going on. They were all looking at him, watching Kyle and his friends laugh at him. It was just to much, and before he knew it, he was running out of the library, leaving his book bag and other belongings behind were they lay.

For a moment, Rene thought he had reached Mikhail. Only for the taller male to tear from him as if Rene's touch had burned him. "No, Mikhail.." Rene watched as as he backed away. "Mikhail? Mikhail!" Rene yelled, jumping up when the taller man tore from the room. God damn it. His eyes narrowed as he turned to look at Kyle. The jock in question continued to laugh, even while Rene stalked over to him. All laughing in the library stopped and was replaced with a loud crack as Rene connected his fist with Kyle's nose. The tiny teen said nothing as he promptly spun on his heel and bolted from the library. He had to find Mikhail. Had to make sure he was okay. He bolted down the hall and crashed through the doors, skidding to a stop. He panted as his head whipped to either side, scanning for any possible sign of the other. Mikhail couldn't have gotten far. He'd left his stuff back in the library. When he couldn't find any any sign of the other, Rene took off running again, this time bolting around the corner. And there he was. Mikhail, leaning against the wall. "Mikhail." He called softly, walking slowly over to the taller teen. "It's just me." He announced, hoping not to startle him farther as he tentatively took the teens arm again. "Mikhail... It's okay."

Mikhail had his head back, resting on the stone, as if that wall were the only think keeping him standing up, his back pressed to the rocks. His eyes were closed, but it was obvious his cheeks were wet. He wasn't audible crying but his shoulders were shaking a little.
Mikhail was currently in a deep pit of self-loathing. Kyle was right, he couldn't even stand up for himself, even when the people were telling out right lies, at least those who knew him would know sometimes bullies just talked out their assess. But Kyle's taunts bad been based in truth. He could rarely have a normal conversation with a person, especially if they had first met. He was colossal wrecking ball just waiting to trip over something or crash into someone.
He flinched a little bit as Rene said his name, opening his eyes as his friend stepped over to him, and only then it did become apparently he wasn't over taken with great wracking sobs. Oh no, it was ever worse.
A little hiccup escaped him. He hung his head shamefully as Rene joined him. " I-i-'m s-s-orry... " He said, another little watery hiccup wracking his shoulders as the shorter boy gripped his arms.

Rene let out a small breathe when Mikhail finally looked at him. "Don't apologize. You don't have too." He said softly, shaking his head. When Mikhail's shoulders started to shake more, Rene just made a series of quiet noises, hoping to comfort the taller teen. "Don't apologize for Kyle being a jerk." Rene moved to stand in front of Mikhail, grabbing his other arm. "Sit.." He urged quietly. "Listen to me. Kyle? He's not worth beating yourself over." Rene moved forward a bit to brush his hair out of his face. "So you couldn't make the teams you tried out for. So what. You'll find something eventually. And until then, you can continue being the schools top student in robotics." He shifted again, this time moving to sit beside Mikhail. "I know you're not a cheater. I know you wouldn't even consider it. So why are you letting Kyle get to you so much?" "You're tall. That's fine. So you sometimes trip over yourself. I've done it before too. You've seen me in the morning.. And your stutter? I've never had a problem with it. You're just quirky. And that's alright. It's all just apart of what makes you you. We've all got odd habits or strange things we do. You are perfectly normal Mikhail." Rene nudged him with his arm lightly, trying to make his friend look at him again. "Cool kid or not. I like you for you. And nothing's going to change that alright?" Niloufer dont mind me just fixing something.

Mikhail took a deep breath, occasionally his shoulders flinching with a hiccup, but fewer and further between until they eventually would disappear. Rene gripped his arms, and urged him to sit, and as if grateful for the excuse his legs gave up trying to hold him up, and he sank to the ground, back still pressed against the stone of the wall, so that his shirt was pulled up from were it had been neatly tucked into his pants, now bunched up and wrinkled, though he didn't seem to really care.
The smaller boy knelt in front of him, and brushed a renegade dreadlocks out of his face, his head tilting towards the warmth of his hand, which made Mikhail open his eyes and look up at Rene. Mikhail listened to his voice, cast in soothing tones, and felt himself calm just a little bit. " I-i don't know. " He knew that he wasn't a cheater, but it was the thought that others would be willing to believe it. " It'ts just... its humiliating. " a final little sad hiccup escaped him, his voice quiet and defeated sounding. It was just Kyle, he had let people like him rule his whole life, sense his earliest memories. Always looking to prey on the insecure, as if they could only be happy if they had someone else's misery to compare it to. He just couldn't manage to stand up for himself. He just let them walk over him and people just wouldn't stand up for someone, especially when all of those taunts were at least partially true, aside from one.
Well, that wasn't really true. Rene stood up for him.
Mikhail scrubbed at his face with his sleeve, and took another look at his friend as he continued on to talk. Defending him from himself.
Rene liked him, all of him, hopeless train wreck and all.
Come to think of it, Rene had never said anything expressing frustration or anger about Mikhail's... well. his weirdness. Aside from joke and mock threatening, which was returned in kind. Rene wasn't exactly a calm person. He was a firecracker, and headstrong. So its not like it was in his nature to just deal with things that bothered him.
He sought out reasons to be with him. This tiny little teenager was his best friend, to a depth that he had never had before.
And here he was, making if very clear that it was unacceptable for Mikhail to think anything other then the best about himself, nudging him and joking like he hadn't just ditched him in a library because some big mouth had made him feel like a loser. And he just kept going, jabbering about how everything about him was just fine exactly the way it was.
Before he knew what he was doing, Mikhail had turned on his knees towards the dark haired teen, cupped that tiny freckled face with both of his large dark hands, and kissed him.

"Mikhail, everyone does stuff like that. It's okay. I promise that it's okay." Rene replied softly, smiling when the other teen looked at him. "I know you've been trying to work on your stutter, as well as other things. And you've made progress. Don't let Kyle ruin that because he's a jerk." The tiny teen propped an arm up on his knee. "You know, I bet he picks on you cause he's jealous that I'd rather hang out with you, someone a grade below me, -" And what difference did that make? None. Mikahil was Mikhail. And Rene wouldn't change anything about him. "Then some a*****e like him. It's about time someone stood up to him." However he was cut off when Mikhail suddenly shifted closer. "...Mikhail?" He asked, blushing when the other cupped his face. When Mikhail kissed him, his eyes widened for a moment, and he stiffened, before slowly relaxing. Rene made a small noise against Mikhail's lips. When Mikhail pulled back, moving to stand Rene seemed to stare in a daze for a moment before snapping back to reality. He grabbed the taller teen, seizing his retreat. "Don't you dare start saying sorry." He said sternly as he rose to his knees. "Because I'm not." And he wasn't sorry for grabbing Mikhail's shirt and returning the favor tenfold.
