Name: Mary Prudence Argall

Nickname: She hates her first name, so she goes by Prudence, her middle name (her maternal grandmother's name), sometimes shortened to Pru.

Age: 23

Birthday: 31 December

Sign: Capricorn

Gemstone: Amethyst

Blood Type: AB+

Fav. Food: Prudence absolutely loves burgers, the juicier and messier the better. She will pile all the stuff they put on the side onto a burger and add bacon and avocado to make it even more awesome. It amazes her co-workers how big a burger she can put away.

Hated Food: Chocolate. She never developed a fondness for the stuff. She thinks it tastes like sweetened dirt. Bleh.

Occupation: Motorcycle mechanic/welder at DC Iron Works custom motorcycle shop.

Hobbies:
Her motorcycle -- Her baby! Prudence rides a big ol' chopped Harley Softail she customized herself, a much bigger motorcycle than one might expect a diminutive girl like her to be able to handle. She loves the speed and thrill of riding, of course, but she loves the solitude too, just her and her bike with the wind in her face. She also loves the "going no place at all" sense of riding for the sake of riding and will go on rides to nowhere just because she can. Tinkering on it is a favorite pastime of hers too, fine-tuning and tweaking how it works (and looks).

Audio books -- Whoever invented audio books is her hero. They make it so much easier to keep up with her favorite authors while doing other things, like working or knitting. Prudence's preferred genre is mythic fiction/urban fantasy, authors like Emma Bull and Charles deLint. She loves the idea of crossing the line between ordinary reality and the fantastical, that something magical is waiting just around the corner. She is typically seen wearing her big studio headphones while working, listening to a book, only taking them off when she has to put on her welding mask.

Knitting -- Everybody gets scarves and gloves and cozy socks for Christmas. Prudence finds knitting relaxing, almost meditative, even though she can easily focus on other things like listening to a book or carrying on a conversation while knitting. She enjoys the cognitive dissonance of a punky little thing like her doing something as "girly" as knitting. She doesn't follow patterns much at all, preferring to make up her own designs from visual references; she's knitted enough that she knows how to do something like knit socks pretty much from memory. And she takes requests.

Virtues:
Persistent -- Prudence is possessed of a dogged determination and tenacity. She's a tiny fierce terrier who won't stop working on a task until she has accomplished it, even long after she should have just given up (it becomes a matter of principle at that point). A willful, obstinate little thing, this definitely plays in her favor -- if you want s**t done, she gets s**t done. Nothing is really too impossible for her to tackle once she's got the notion in her head of doing it. This is why she's the one who usually gets sicced on truculent locked-up bolts at work.

Good-natured -- Prudence has a generally happy disposition, though she is happiest when she is working on a motorcycle. She's not exactly what you'd call a people person, but she doesn't dislike people. A mild introvert, she's friendliest with her colleagues and people she knows. Luckily it's pretty easy to get to know her, as she's quite approachable, with a ready smile and quick genuine laugh. No grumpy gus, she'll crack jokes with friends and has a dry, wry sense of humor that sometimes goes over one's head.

Inquisitive -- Curious as a cat, she wants to know ALL THE THINGS. Prudence loves nothing more than poking at mysteries, sticking her nose in unexplored places and shaking the box to try to figure out what's inside. She is quick to pick through knotty problems, patiently studying them and analyzing them until she can take them apart and find out how they tick. She loves learning new things and is a quick study, even (and especially) when she is studying on her own. And her patience usually pays off -- she's always finding new mysteries to pick apart.

Flaws:
Contrary -- With Prudence, every day is Opposites Day. She is contrary as anything and will deliberately do what she's told she can't or shouldn't do just to show 'em (this is the best method to get her to do something, by the way, tell her she can't or shouldn't do it). Especially if the alleged reason she can't or shouldn't do it is because she's a girl. She never accepts things at face value and has to try it/find out for herself. She was one of those little kids who always asked "WHY?" and drove everyone nuts.

Control freak -- Oh, how Prudence hates relinquishing control. It's why she learned how to be a motorcycle mechanic in the first place, because she didn't trust anyone else to work on her bike to her satisfaction. The girl can't stand not being in charge of a project. She likes to control a task from start to finish, and if she requires help on something she will hover and supervise and drive you up the wall. She'd actually much rather do it herself (and so would everyone else, pretty much). Needless to say, she makes her boss crazy sometimes.

Nosy -- This is the downside of her being so inquisitive. Prudence wants to know ALL THE THINGS about what's going on in your life and will poke you and prod you til she gets answers. She's quite patient -- she knows she'll wear you down eventually and you'll spill the beans. She's not a gossip, so your secrets are safe with her, but she's still an impossible busybody who will stick her nose in anyone and everyone's business if she gets even the slightest hint that something is going on that she's not in on.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

(Reference sketch, reference sketch for civ outfit, reference sketch for work outfit -- CC is always welcome too!)

Eyes: Turquoise blue, between almond-shaped and round, wide-set and bright. She tends to not wear any makeup.

Hair: Bright orange-red, long and straight down to her waist with heavy shaggy fringe in front, shaved on the sides and usually tied back off her face and out of the way in a ponytail. She can't be arsed to style it into a mohawk.

Face: Prudence's face is mostly round, with a pert nose and average mouth, chin and ears. She's clear-skinned and lightly tanned from riding her motorcycle without a helmet, with a smattering of freckles across her nose and cheeks. She has several facial piercings -- spiderbites on the left side of her lower lip with rings in them, a stud in her left nostril, and a ring in her right eyebrow, along with piercings in both ears.

Clothes: She prefers to wear second-hand t-shirts with clever slogans or band logos on them, ripped-up black jeans, and big steel-toe combat boots. When she's riding her bike, she adds a black motorcycle jacket with cords and s**t hanging off the shoulders. For work, she wears a short-sleeved black Dickies work shirt that's way too big for her over a tank top and grease-stained jeans along with the combat boots.

Knight Title: Gwales, Page of Pluto

Gwales is the mythological island or castle in the Second Branch of the Welsh Mabinogion where the severed head of Bran the Blessed, King of Britain, entertained his friends after the battle with Ireland over the mistreatment of Branwyn, Bran's sister. During this eighty-year period time stood still for them -- they didn't age, they didn't go hungry, they didn't notice the passage of time. Gwales is often associated with Grassholm Island, an uninhabited island off the coast of Wales.

Challenge: "Have a little patience."

Uniform:
Putting the punk back in steampunk! Reference sketch, though CC is always welcome. heart Colors are from the Pluto uniform swatch.

Top -- Short lavender jacket with big leg-of-mutton sleeves and round brass buttons down the front and the sleeves, worn open over light grey tank top.
Bottoms -- Dark magenta high-waisted cargo shorts extending to just below the knee, held up by dark grey suspenders with brass fittings.
Belt -- Light grey, wide with round brass belt buckle with Pluto's symbol on it, worn low on hips, with dark grey pouch adorned with Pluto's symbol in brass.
Shoes -- Black combat boots with dark grey spats and brass buckles; light grey and lavender horizontal-striped stockings.
Shoulders -- Epaulets in the same fabric as the jacket, fastened with brass buttons.
Accessories -- Brass goggles with dark magenta lenses and dark grey leather strap (worn with her hair loose and down); long looping brass chains hanging from her belt; dark grey leather choker with brass gear-shaped pendant embossed with Pluto's symbol at her throat. The facial piercings remain in her knight form.

Weapon:
Page
Weapon -- Little hourglass-shaped egg timer with lavender sand. Pretty useless as a weapon.
Magic -- None!

Squire
Weapon -- Simple wood-framed hourglass with brass hardware. Might be good for hitting someone over the head.
Magic -- Gwales inverts her hourglass, and time suddenly speeds up for her (about a 50% speed increase), allowing her to dodge attacks more effectively than she can even with her enhanced powered-up speed. To Gwales, it appears as if the world around her has slowed down, like it was filmed using a high-speed camera, and it allows her to easily move out of the way of missiles or thrown punches. To everyone else, she is a blur of motion that's very hard to hit. Gwales can only use this on herself; she can't attack while using it because she has to concentrate on channeling her magic, though she can physically attack between bursts. If she's hit, the magic ceases. After the effect wears off, she might feel a bit disoriented for a second or two. Her energy pool lasts until the sand runs out of the hourglass, or 30 seconds.

Knight
Weapon -- Large ornate brass-framed hourglass with gear mechanisms flat at either end. The mechanisms appear to turn slowly. This could definitely hurt if she hit you over the head with it; she could also in theory parry blows from a weapon with it.
Magic -- Similar to her Squire magic, inverting the hourglass increases Gwales' speed about 75%, to the point that the world around her seems nearly frozen in place. To everyone else, in a blink she is suddenly standing somewhere else. As an added effect, she can now also use this on up to three of her allies for 10-second bursts per person, with the same effect as her Squire magic (a speed increase of 50%). She has to be within 10 feet of her desired target, and if they step out of range the speed increase fades. She still can't attack while using this because she has to concentrate on channeling her magic, though she can physically attack between bursts. If she's hit, the magic ceases. After the effect wears off, she and anyone else she used it on might feel a bit disoriented for a second or two. Her energy pool lasts until the sand runs out of the hourglass, or 60 seconds.

Summons Creature: A wild boar the size of a large pony. He could easily carry Gwales and someone else to safety. His fur and bristles are silvery, his tusks are gleaming white.
Summons Ability: The boar positions himself between Gwales and her enemy and with a bellow charges. If he impacts his target, they will be temporarily frozen in time. To them, the world will appear to have suddenly shifted forward in time. The frozen-in-time effect lasts 10 seconds.

This is a really neat idea for a quest, tatterpixie! I think Gwales sounds really interesting and I hope you win her soon! Everything about her profile looks good for me, but I wanted to mention something for knight magic! You do not need to divide it up so that she has to use it in three ten second bursts or all at once (it could be divided up as often or as little as you want, even if it is for two seconds and then twenty eight seconds for her squire magic!). I think the Knight magic sounds good, but for both the squire and knight magic I wanted to ask about how much speed she increases? Is it 50% 75% I think that having it so that if she is hit the magic stops is a neat twist, but I think that having her speed increase by any more than 50% might give her too much of an advantage, especially if at knight stage she can share the skill with others. Even if she is stuck and cannot attack, you could do a lot of damage if your allies could move super quickly and attack while you boost them!

Also, if she is channeling her magic for others at this stage, is there a limit to how many people she can boost at once, or do they just have to be within ten feet? And, what happens if they leave the ten foot radius? Does the magic wear off for them or do they still get the full ten seconds?

Sorry for the questions!

I think that the summons idea is neat! I do have some suggestions, though! If the boar is hit, I think it would be okay if he didn't disappear, but I do think the frozen in time for thirty seconds might be a little much! I can have a GM come in and double check this, but the most that a character can be totally frozen for must be less than fifteen seconds! Otherwise, it is too much time to be frozen and they could be seriously hurt or killed!

Sorry about that! Please let me know when you have many any changes or if you have any questions! I really like this quest and want to stamp it soon!

Hi Orange, and thanks for the awesome crit! I have made changes to Gwales' Squire and Knight magic per your suggestions, and tweaked her summons too. Let me know if everything looks good or if you want me to tweak anything else!

These changes look really good! Thank you for adding the information for her magic!

I think the summons doesn't look bad, but I am not an expert at stamping these! I think that if the boar can do massive physical damage, like goring or trampling, then it cannot have a magical effect, sorry! I think you will need to pick one or the other! The boar could still be big enough to knock people over as well as freeze them in place for ten seconds, but it should not be able to do really big damage if you would like to keep that magical effect! Please let me know what works for you and I will be able to give her a stamp!

No worries! I took out the physical attack stuff for the boar -- now all he does is freeze time. Thanks so much!
